ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Ram 1500 and 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.
Fix: FCA US will notify owners, and dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion by reading the camshaft position signal in the event that the crankshaft position signal is lost, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-2002. FCA US's number for this recall is W58.

Your engine is losing coolant rapidly without any visible leaks, causing it to overheat—an independent mechanic has confirmed your EGR cooler has failed. Even though Carfax shows this was supposedly serviced and there are no active recalls, this failure creates a potential fire risk that could endanger you and your passengers. This problem has been happening since you bought the vehicle in February 2026. The fix will likely involve replacing the EGR cooler and flushing the cooling system.

Your engine's manifold bolts have broken for the second time, even after the dealership repaired them previously. This is a recurring issue that needs to be addressed to prevent further damage. The repair will likely involve removing the manifold, replacing the broken bolts, and reinstalling the component.

Your engine stalled while driving at 65 MPH but restarted immediately, with several warning lights appearing on your dashboard. When you tried to restart the engine after arriving at your destination, it wouldn't start. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as a completely delaminated crankshaft position tone wheel that needs replacement. You were told there's a recall for this failure, but your vehicle's VIN wasn't listed in the recall, and multiple dealers confirmed the same.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, his granddaughter smelled an abnormal burning odor coming from the vehicle. The contact looked out of the rearview mirror and saw heavy white smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact immediately pulled over and had the occupants exit the vehicle. The contact checked under the hood as white smoke filled the engine compartment. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. Due to the failure, the contact initially had the vehicle towed to the residence before it was later towed to an independent mechanic. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the mechanic discovered coolant had leaked into the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler. The mechanic also discovered that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V757000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); and the contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The contact was informed that any repair to the vehicle would be an out-of-pocket expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was given a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
Traveling (cruising) at highway speed on interstate the engine suddenly made a clanking noise and engine oil pressure went to zero and engine stopped. I barley managed to just get out of major traffic without causing an accident and off the interstate coasting to a stop This could have been a tragic accident that was just barely avoided.the truck has 80043 miles. Just 43 miles out of warranty. It has been dealer serviced on time since day one. This seems to be an ongoing issue with these engines as they just decide to sop on their own with notice. If this had happened while passing another vehicle It would have been bad. FCA ( fiat, chrysler ,automobiles) refuses to help out or even listen. This is dangerous as is their fuel pump recalls. Truck is now out of warranty by 43 miles and the company FCA washes their hands of any kind of wrong doing. These engines in the vehicles are totally unsafe and unreliable and will some day cause a major death and harm to others !!!! Dealer have new upgraded engines in stock that the company send to them they are fully aware of an impeding disaster but yet dont care about human life.
While driving heard Clicking/Knocking noise then low oil pressure light came on we pulled over and turned truck off then truck would not restart. truck was towed to Dealer which has check truck and decided it was a complete engine failure main bearing. Truck only had 45,000 mile on Engine

Recall Z46 for the High Pressure Fuel Rail. Truck has been down for a month and was told today my truck is still not fixed and they have no clue when the parts will be coming in for the to get my truck done.
Engine failed at 142,000 miles. No prior indications or warning lights. Cam roller failed on cylinder #7 intake causing rod to throw through head cover, and valve to drop into cylinder #7 piston which damaged piston and disable engine. I have been advised that this was caused by the Variable Displacement mode the engine goes into when not under load, for better fuel economy. I have also been advised that this issue is not uncommon for these 5.7 Hemi engines which are advertised to last 200,000 to 300,000 miles. I had to replace engine and loss of use for 4 weeks. Not happy with Chrysler/Ram/Stellantis. I feel mislead/cheated.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel. The contact was informed that the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel had delaminated. No warning lights were illuminated. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V406000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL) and 23V411000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle hesitated before functioning normally. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
The engine seized up at 52,517 miles on February 28, 2025. It was making loud noises on the freeway and was losing significant power. We exited the freeway trying to get to a safe location and the engine froze. I had the engine replaced and the check engine light came on after 40 miles!
While being driven, the ecodiesel engine had a faulty ball bearing that malfunctioned inside the engine. This ball bearing then shot through the middle of the engine and out the bottom of the engine. The service technician at our local dealership inspected the engine and compared this to a "bullet under too much pressure due to a fault within the engine." He then said we "were lucky the ball bearing hadn't shot upwards through the floorboards." Not only could we have been at risk, other passing vehicles could have been shot with the ball bearing; this event could have led to wrecks and possible fatalities. The engine was completely destroyed by this defective ball bearing and cannot be rebuilt. No lights or messages appeared after the ball bearing shot through, even though the oil began draining instantly. The truck was pulled over and turned off before all the oil drained to prevent damage to the engine, which was already destroyed without us knowing.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two separate independent mechanics who both stated that the exhaust manifold was warped due to a fractured bolt. The contact was informed that the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel had seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine, which caused engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 186,000.
my vehicle started knocking loudly, the all of a sudden I lost power on a 4 lane highway causeing other vehicles to swerve around me. this could have been a accident if the road conditions were icy such as they are in Alberta. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership, the connecting Rods were in the bottom of the oil pan. since this incident I have learned of 2 other Eco diesels that had the same thing happen to them. These people are my friends and close aqauintences. So there must be more if I know 3 Eco diesels personally on my town.
Engine started knocking at 65mph. Slowed to find a safe place to pull out of traffic lane. Before pulling over engine stopped but was able to get completely off the road. My safety was not directly at risk but had to wait at the side of the road for 4 hours waiting for tow. The dealer stated they have no idea what failed. The engine has not been inspected. The dealer told me I would have to pay to have it torn apart to find out what failed. There were no warnings except the engine knock. Oil pressure was normal, was not overheating and no check engine light. My safety could have been at risk had I been trying to pull out into traffic. Dealer has been doing all of the scheduled oil changes and inspections. I thought this may have something to do with recall 66A/NHTSA 23V-411. Dealer stated that could not be the reason as that recall fix is a software update?
I was driving this [XXX] ecodiesel truck and it threw a rod on a sketchy windy road on a mountain pass. I was told 65 mile tow one way, 90 the other; I chose the former (Liberty Mutual said they’d reimburse $20 of my over $250 tow) thanks again! Not.)). Brought it to Ram in Show Low Arizona, Eric McGraw the service manager was terrific and communicated with me as much as he could. Unfortunately, they said the engine was out of power train warranty (I was at 99,840 miles at time of engine failure), “by time not miles.” I had to call FCA directly and get a [XXX] case manager, Josh who was also stellar in my opinion. 9 weeks; 9 weeks without my truck. That’s 7 total payments for it to what? Sit unfixed while FCA struggled with their top leadership? I bought this [XXX] ecodiesel engine because it was a diesel and diesels are notorious for having higher mileage capability; AND THEN to have everyone at Ram to FCA point fingers, shrug shoulders, and keep me waiting at my own expense; was simply intolerable to me. Luckily, FCA told me Ram would cover %65 of the repair (which is generous, but a slap in the face when I bought a supposed long life diesel from one of the top diesel companies in this country, and then to not cover the whole thing? BEFORE 100k miles?! So I paid $7000 out of pocket for this new engine. There was a lawsuit earlier which details how FCA settled in court over this same model “only 2014-2016 models” supposedly. I have a 2018 Ram, with the 5.7 hemi. I purchased it new in November 2017. I currently have just over 53,000 miles and began to hear a ticking sound on startup that lessened upon driving but never completely gone and could smell exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment. I took this to an independent service center and they reported that two or the rear bolts have broken off that secure the exhaust manifold and the gasket has been damaged. The mechanic states that this is quite common but not a recalled area from the manufacturer. The repair will cost close to $1,000.00 to repair. I do not understand that if this is a common and well known and documented problem and can be a huge safety risk due to the leaking of carbon monoxide into the passenger compartment, why hasn't this t been listed as a safety recall. I now understand that RAM is also discontinuing the production of the 5.7 hemi engine, are these type problems related?
Chrysler's 3.0L diesel engine have a high-pressure fuel pump with an open recall on them. A HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system and cause potential fuel starvation. In January of 2023, I attempted to remedy the situation with a RAM dealership in Aptos, California. The attached email chain shows that for 6 months, I was unable to receive parts for my 3.0L diesel engine. After a change in job opportunities, I ended up in Palmdale late November 2023, where I continued to pursue remediation at the RAM of the West Dealership in Lancaster. While I do not have a email thread on this, if you visit their store on 43226 10th St W, Lancaster, CA 93534, you find that they have an open ticket for this same recall that has been open since February 2024. I have had an open recall for 2 years now, which has prevented me from receiving a new registration sticker. My current RAM 1500, still has a sticker from 2022 despite me paying for all of my registration requirements. This has led to 3 tickets and a threat from law enforcement that they can take my truck. This has gone on long enough and I am demanded a solution.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a cracked particulate filter. The contact was advised that the particulate filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the part to complete the repair was on backorder. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of coolant. The contact stated that the coolant level was over one gallon low within a two-week period. The vehicle was inspected for leaks, and it was confirmed that there were no leaks found. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at speeds above 80 MPH, the vehicle started to shake, the engine overheated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and was diagnosed with a faulty battery. The battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer, but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 95,000.
Our truck only has 70,000 miles on it. My husband is a mechanic and has taken very good care of the truck. While traveling a few weeks ago the truck just started to miss and died. We lost all power. I am still under warranty thankfully. But I have read about all of the engines issues that are happening with this year and model. When is something going to be done about the engine failure? We could have died if we were on a busy highway. This is a very dangerous issue. I won’t know what the issue is until I get it to the dealer. The issue is not coming up on the scanner that is used by the automotive shop that my husband works at. I really think that is an issue within itself also. Does someone have to die to be able to get this resolved? I am now thinking I will sale my vehicle when it gets fixed. I can’t take any chances as we just bought a camping trailer and I can’t imagine breaking down towing that. I’m going to be the big loser in this situation as I will probably lose money selling it. Please step up and help us owners out with the known issues about this vehicle engine issues and issues the proper recall.
Crank no start and vehicle stops running.

I bought this Dodge truck in 2018 from a certified Dodge Dealership in California. On March [XXX] this year around [XXX] I was driving on the freeway when experienced an engine stall, had to move the vehicle to the shoulder and almost got hit by a semi-truck. Got the car towed to the nearest Dodge dealership where the car was later inspected by a certified service advisor. He stated that the reason for the engine stall was a rod bearing failure. After looking it up on NHTSA's website, I found out that there were 2 open safety recall for this truck which Dodge has failed to notify me about and get it fixed. One of the open safety recall is: 664- LOSS OF CRANKSHAFT POS. Although a failure in the crankshaft position can usually not directly cause damage to the rod bearing, If there is a failure in the crankshaft position sensor, this can lead to synchronization problems in the engine and If these conditions are severe enough and persist for an extended period, they can eventually lead to engine damage, including damage to the rod bearings. I've contacted Dodge directly and they refused to provide any assistance for this matter and closed the case alleging that the truck is past its warranty and there is nothing they can do about it. The cost of repair is over $33k which I absolutely cannot afford to pay. Insurance company won't cover it either because it was a 'mechanical breakdown'. Upon talking to the California Department of Consumer Affairs, they advised me to contact the NHTSA regarding this matter. Thank you so much in advance, I hope you guys can help me fighting this case. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have been getting regular mailings from Fiat Chrysler warning about the safety danger regarding the High pressure fuel pump for almost 2 years now. When I contact the dealer I am assured they will fix it when the fuel pump "grenades", but as long as the truck is running I shouldn't expect anything to be done. I have no fewer than three notices for the fuel pump and at least two for the "loss of crankshaft position" with no indications that anything will be done soon. Doing the math it looks like I can expect to be driving a safety hazard around for at least another 3-4 years and trying to sell it, like this, is unlikely. It may be a voluntary recall but it is a reflection of involuntary repairs and the fact I continue to get notices from Fiat Chrysler about how important this is shows that they are only going through the motions of safety and customer service.
While driving I heard a noise from the engine there were no warning lights on then I heard a bang and a warning light for the electronic service of the throttle light came on the truck I was driving was on the highway and the truck slowed right down I was barely able to get it off the next exit and was told by the dearlship a rod blew through my engine Block
Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking, warping my manifold and creating exhaust leak. Its been confirmed by a service center.
In the last 12 months my engine began to have a ticking sound which started out as a slight ticking to now a loud ticking sound. I am afraid that it may lose power or fail all together. I could be driving in heavy traffic or cause a chain effect of crashes. This vehicle is my primary "good" vehicle that I drive. I will be taking my truck to the dealer very soon for inspection.
Catastrophic failure of the engine. Per dealership investigation, one of the rods broke off the engine. It can be inspected at Lithia Chrysler Jeep Reno, 1050 E Plumb Ln, Reno NV 89502 (775) 501-8593. I was traveling approx. 70mph on [XXX] freeway; terrible banging sound that stopped and lights came on the dash with instruction to shift to P to restart so I knew I had lost power. Fortunately I was on a downhill grade and traffic fairly light. I was able to coast off the freeway and park on a shoulder although braking was impaired and frightening. My life and my son's life and those of people in cars around us were put at risk by this failure. There had been no indications of issues prior to the failure. The truck has had all the required services although I see there are 2 recalls that have not been addressed and I don't understand why since the truck has had multiple services since the recalls; I thought those were taken care of when the vehicle goes in for a service. I am writing to urgently address a safety issue I have encountered with my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel VIN: [XXX] vehicle, which poses a significant risk to myself and others on the road. I purchased my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in 2018. Regrettably, I have faced persistent problems with crankshaft bearing failures, resulting in engine failure on two occasions – first at 70,000 miles and subsequently after another 70,000 miles. Both instances necessitated engine replacements. The location of the truck is Ron Carter Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram League City at Address 3535 Gulf Fwy, League City, TX 77573. During the initial replacement, a rebuilt or used engine was installed per Chrysler's directive, which was stated to carry a three-year warranty. However, despite being within this warranty period, the dealership has declined to honor the warranty claim for the second engine failure. Beyond the financial strain this has imposed on my family, there is a grave safety concern associated with these repeated engine failures. The sudden loss of engine power while driving poses a significant risk on the road, creating unsafe conditions. I have experienced instances where the engine stopped abruptly, causing a near-collision due to the loss of power. I am reaching out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to highlight this safety issue and to request your urgent assistance in addressing this matter. These repeated engine failures not only jeopardize my safety but also that of other motorists on the road. I implore the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of all drivers who might be affected by similar issues in these vehicles. I am open to providing additional details, and documentation, or participating in any investigations necessary to address this critical safety concern. I can be reached at [XXX] or [XXX] to discuss this matter further. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
After only 64000 miles the 2018 Ram 1500 3.6L engine will need major repair with the cam shaft. With no longer a warranty I am stuck paying for the repair. I believe this is a common problem. I have religiously changed oil and kept mileage low.
Vehicle has shut off three separate times while driving. Without any warning. First time I was making a left-hand turn when it shut off. Second time I was also turning when it shut off. Third time I was crossing over a train tracks making a left hand turn when it shut off right on the edge of the track. Each time I had to turn the switch to the off position and restart it the third time it took several times before it restarted. The third incident was November 6th.
Manufacturer has failed to provide a remedy for the Z46 recall, the primary "intended" use of the vehicle is for towing, and as such I feel that the vehicle is unsafe for its "intended" use. I have contacted Mopar online, and I have contacted the dealership multiple times. With no resolution, or suggested remedy. I am simply left with a vehicle of questionable reliability which I feel is unreasonable.

I was on a 6 land highway, fast lane, when my dodge truck just stopped. I was almost hit and cause several accidents in trying to get to the shoulder of the road. I called a tow truck and again the driver and myself almost caused accidents in trying to get the truck loaded on the truck. I took it to a near by repair shot. They diagnosed the problem quickly. I then waited 6 weeks, yes 6 weeks for the crank position sensor to come in. That was back in April. Ever since then we have been trying to load the correct software because it still is not running right. This is dangerous. I also have an outstanding recall on this truck for the high pressure fuel pump. So that can go at anytime. What has happened to Dodge, I wish I never bought this truck.

More than 1 year after a safety recall, there is still no remedy available. This is unacceptable for a safety issue. Now there is a new recall for the same issue that was previously recalled. Something seems fishy. Is my truck safe to drive? Buy it back if it can't be fixed. Seems reasonable to me.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not able to restart, and the contact had the vehicle towed to the residence. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with a crank sensor failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance since the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 45,381. The contact stated Stellantis has changed its position on replacing the part in the original W58 recall, revised to reprogramming the PCM on the revised W58 and now 66A says there is no current solution. The contact wants to be reimbursed for repairs from the recall.
Recall on high pressure fuel pump is causing truck to keep struggling during driving , and sudden stop at street few times
I bought this vehicle around 2 years ago from a local dealer. A week or so after purchase, I heard a small rattling sound at start up and a continuous ticking sound whle running. My sales rep said "that is normal, mine does it too and its nothing to worry about." 5 days ago, the sound at start was way louder than after purchase and lasted a bit longer. My extensive research, including talking to a Dodge service tech, it is broken bolts in the manifold due to excessive heat and warping of the manifold. Apparently this issue has been going on for years and has affected many Dodge/Ram owners. My vehicle is 3 months past its 5 year warranty and now I am left holding the bag to repair something that should be covered under a recall. This "ticking" and "rattling" sound is actually an exhaust leak and is potentially deathly dangerous to anyone occupying a vehicle (while its running) with this issue. Current possible cost for replacement of parts would be around $750 per side. Plus, with the install of all new parts, this even would occur again, at some point, resulting in getting it repaired again, and again, and again. I think, as do many others, that the Mopar company shouldbe liable for these repairs with a permanent fix so it doesnt continue happening.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The system failed to go through regeneration. The contact stated that the EGR cooler and radiator were leaking. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the service electronic control message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a crack in the EGR cooler, and that the cooler was leaking. The contact stated that the exhaust was stuck and clogged. Additionally, the fuel filter was clogged. The turbo boost sensor also had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V757000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Exhaust manifold leak
This vehicle experienced a Diesel EGR Cooler failure, for which there is an open recall by FCA under VB1/NHTSA 19V-757. Repairs were completed at the shop where it had been taken for diagnostics, and subsequently I submitted a reimbursement request to FCA following all guidelines and submitting all documents requested. However, FCA is refusing to honor the recall reimbursement request. They state their reasons below: 1) Vehicle is out of warranty. (Warranty status should have no bearing on a recall repair) 2) Parts replaced are not covered under the recall. (Parts replaced were specifically covered under recall VB1) 3) Repairs were not completed at a dealership. (The reimbursement process was created specifically for repairs completed at other repair centers) The above reasons stated by FCA are not valid, but FCA continues to deny reimbursement. FCA should honor their recall repair commitment and process. This incident leads me to believe FCA is actively engaged in falsely denying reimbursements to customers and their compliance with NHTSA recall oversight should be investigated.
The engine seized, lost power and braking control while traveling on the freeway at approximately 70 mph during morning rush hour traffic. I had to merge into the ditch and ride it to a stop to avoid collisions on a busy freeway. Immediately called a tow truck to tow the vehicle to the dodge dealership closest to me to assess the problem. During the assessment the mechanic noted a seized motor due to the timing chain skiping and adjusting when the valve opens and closes, thus sending a valve through a piston and destoying the engine. Dodge has known about this issue with the 3.0 ecodiesel and all that they suggest is to sell it and buy a different truck. There are plenty of testimonials found if searched for, some that did not have as safe of an ending as i. The only warning light that was displayed was the 'check engine' light for the recall of the high pressure fuel pump. Thus truck has been scheduled for moths to have the recall replaced. The part is not available, I was ensured it was safe to drive until the part was available. I even called crystler ram to request the part, and they stated this part is not available at the time.
Exhaust manifold bolt issue causing exhaust leak. This is a known issue for these engines and Ram will do nothing about the problem. In most areas an exhaust leak because of their defect will cause non inspection pass.
The contact's husband owned a 2018 Ram 1500. Two years ago, the contact received a notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V757000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the parts for the repair were unavailable. At the time, the dealer had been notified about the recall and confirmed that parts were not yet available. A year later, the dealer called that contact to inform her and that parts slowly coming to their dealer and that she had been placed on a waiting list for the recall repair. Recently, the contact stated that while her husband was driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal; two unknown warning lights also appeared on the instrument panel. As her husband pulled over, a white color smoke began to emit from the engine. Upon lifting up the engine's hood, her husband saw flames coming from under the engine. Her husband immediately called 911 and while on the phone with the dispatcher, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The fire department arrived ten minutes later and extinguished the fire. The contact was uncertain if a fire report was filed; no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to two independent mechanics where it was later deemed a total loss. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and a case was filed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after turning off the vehicle, the vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent dealer, where it was diagnosed that the bearing on the crankshaft was loose and causing damage to the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
while driving on the highway with cruise control engaged at 60 mph there was a loud clunk sound and the truck immediately decelerated. The cruise control had disengaged and the truck seemed to go into limp home mode and the check engine light came on. I pulled to the side of the road and shut the engine off. I looked under the truck to see if I had run over something and checked the drive line for damage but found none. Restarting the engine took considerably more crank time than normal. While driving home the truck would not accelerate normally and top speed uphill was 19-23 mph depending on the climb with rpm around 3000 before what felt like fuel cut off and immediate deceleration until rpm was dropped to around 2000. The 5 hour trip home turned into an 8 hour trip. The check engine DTC is P0336 (crank position sensor A circuit range/performance). There is a recall W58 (20V475000) for software update for loss of crankshaft position sensor signal. This update substitutes the camshaft position sensor signal for the lost crankshaft signal. There is a known defect with the tone ring on the 3.0 eco diesel. The magnetic material on the tone ring delaminates. The software update does not fix the loss of crankshaft signal. The engine now has excessive crank time before starting. There is an a noticeable aceleration lag and the truck struggles on uphill grades. The cruise control is now inoperable with the crank signal DTC is permanent until the tone ring is replaced. My repair shop checked for parts avaiability and found dodge has 22,000 in stock which leads me to believe that they not only know about the problem but also know the only true fix is to replace the failed tone ring. The truck is unsafe to drive until the failed tone ring is replaced.

Vehicle is overheating, recall on this vehicle cannot be fixed in a timely manner due to no parts available. Also issue with low pressure light coming on due to no actual sensor just a switch. This issue has caused we to stall at 65+ mph while driving on the freeway.

I RECEIVE SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES ON EGR COOLING SYSTEM AND DEALERS COMPLAIN THEY DON'T HAVE PARTS TO DO REPLACEMENT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON OVER A YEAR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN FIRES AS A RESULT. CAN YOU INVESTIGATE THIS SITUATION. DEALERS IN REDDING, RED BLUFF, AND CHICO,CA SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS AND DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET THEM. THANK YOU.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2018 RAM 1500 DIESEL WITH 23,000 MILES FROM CARMAX. THERE IS A RECALL, VB1, ON THE TRUCK. THE PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX THE RECALL ARE UNAVAILABLE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I CONTACTED 7 RAM DEALERSHIPS IN MY AREA TO DISCOVER EACH HAS A WAITING LIST FOR THE PARTS OF 70 TO 200 VEHICLES BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE "RESTRICTED"; ONLY 1 PART MAY BE ORDERED PER WEEK BY ANY DEALERSHIP. THEREFORE, THE ACTUAL TIME REQUIRED TO REPAIR THE DEFECT IS AT MINIMUM IS 1 TO 3 YEARS AT THAT RATE. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL VB1 THERE IS A RISK OF A POTENTIAL VEHICLE FIRE. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER (FCA) CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO GET THE PARTS FASTER TO THE DEALERS SINCE THEY ARE RESTRICTED TO 1 PART PER ORDER PER WEEK, THAT THERE IS NO ETA OF WHEN , IF AT ALL, THE SUPPLY OF PARTS WILL BE INCREASED. I AM FILLING THIS COMPLAINT SO PERHAPS OTHERS WILL NOT SUFFER THE SAME PROBLEM IF THEY PURCHASE A USED RAM TRUCK WITH THIS RECALL.
THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME OF A RECALL. I ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE THE VEHICLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR BUT WAS TOLD THAT A LIMITED SUPPLY OF PARTS WOULD NOT ALLOW THE REPAIRS. I HAVE BEEN PUT ON A WAITING LIST THAT ACCORDING TO THEIR TIMELINE, COULD BE SEVERAL YEARS LONG.

WHEN I LOOKUP THE PROBLEMS MANY OF THE SAME VEHICLES LIKE MINE ARE BURNING IN JUST A SHORT TIME. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN A PRIORITY FOR THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURE. I WAS NOTIFIED OF A RECALL VB1 FOR THE EGR ON MY ECODIESEL, TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/18/20 FOR INSPECTION OF THE EGR. WAS INFORMED NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, NOR WOULD THEY BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AT LEAST THE END OF APRIL. WAS INFORMED TRUCKS THAT USED ANTIFREEZE COOLANT DUE TO CRACKED EGR WOULD GET REPLACED/REPAIRED FIRST. MY TRUCK HAS APPETITE FOR COOLANT, HAVE USED A BIT OVER 2 GALLONS SINCE NEW. YOU CAN SMELL COOLANT, ONE WOULD THINK THERE WAS A LEAK, WAS INFORMED IT WAS THE CRACKED EGR. COOLANT IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WILL CAUSE PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE. MY TRUCK WAS NOT RETURNED TO ME UNTIL 2/25/20 BECAUSE OF OTHER NEEDED WORK. MY FUEL MILEAGE HAS BEEN WELL BELOW THE EPA RATED 27 MPG, IS IT BECAUSE OF THE EGR? I HAD FAMILY EMERGENCY IN CALIF AND I PLANNED TO DRIVE THERE FROM MY HOME HERE IN AK, BUT DEALERSHIP DID NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING THAT FAR BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE ALONG THE WAY. I TRIED TRADING THE TRUCK FOR ANOTHER ONE, BUT NO DEALERSHIP WILL TAKE A TRUCK IN IN TRADE WITH A OPEN RECALL LIKE THIS! NOT EVEN A RAM DEALERSHIP! I DON'T HAVE ANY OPTIONS EXCEPT WAIT AND NOW THAT THE THE NATION IS HAVING CORONAVIRUS PROBLEMS, HOW MUCH LONGER WILL I WAIT FOR PARTS? THIS DEFECT CAN CAUSE FIRE OR POSSIBLY ACCIDENT DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE
