ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ECM FREE OF CHARGE. CERTAIN MY 2006 ALTIMAS WHICH HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 06V223 (NISSAN R0606) ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL SINCE THE REPROGRAMMING FOR 06V223 ALSO INCLUDED THIS REPROGRAMMING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.5 LITER ENGINE, THE EXHAUST PIPE HANGER PIN MAY CATCH DEBRIS FROM THE ROAD THAT COULD BE IGNITED BY CONTACT WITH THE MAIN CATALYST. ALSO ON 2002 ALTIMA AND SENTRA VEHICLES, CERTAIN ENGINE OPERATING CONDITIONS MAY CAUSE THE PRE-CATALYST TO OVERHEAT AND DAMAGE THE CATALYST SUBSTRATE.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE PROTRUDING PORTION OF THE EXHAUST PIPE HANGER PIN. IN ADDITION TO THE CORRECTIVE ACTION, IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE IN THE EVENT OF POOR OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE THAT COULD RESULT IN OIL SPILLAGE, HEAT SHIELD(S) WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE PRE-CATALYST AND EXHAUST TUBE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JULY 28, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261. NISSAN RECALL NOS. R3007, R3014, R3015, R3016, R3017. ALSO ON 2002 ALTIMA AND SENTRA VEHICLES, CERTAIN ENGINE OPERATING CONDITIONS MAY CAUSE THE PRE-CATALYST TO OVERHEAT AND DAMAGE THE CATALYST SUBSTRATE. IF SUBSTRATE PARTICLES ENTER THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, THEY COULD SCORE THE CYLINDER WALLS, RESULTING IN INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION. IF THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS NOT CHECKED ON A PERIODIC BASIS AND DROPS BELOW THE LOW LEVEL, AND THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE IGNORING NOTICEABLE ENGINE NOISE, ENGINE DAMAGE MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. THE PRE-CATALYST WILL BE TESTED TO ENSURE IT IS WORKING PROPERLY AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY. IF DAMAGE IS FOUND INSIDE THE PRE-CATALYST, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.

ON CERTAIN ELECTRIC VEHICLES, THE FRONT SUSPENSION TRANSVERSE LINK'S BALL JOINT BRACKET MAY BREAK FROM STRESS CONCENTRATION AT A NOTCH CREATED BY SURFACE ROUGHNESS AND THE SHAPE OF THE MATERIAL CUT-LINE.

ENGINE STOPS RUNNING SUDDENLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AND WITH NO WARNING. I BEGAN TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY CAR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH A QUART OF OIL A DAY AND A TANK OF GAS IN A FEW DAYS. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL. I WAS IN THE MARINES AND WAS STATIONED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT BASES. MY MOTHER?S ADDRESS WAS ALSO USED BY NISSAN BUT SHE NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ON THE RECALL. I CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALER IN NORFOLK NE. HE TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT TWO WEEKS FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. THE PEOPLE I DEALT WITH WERE RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND ACTED LIKE I WAS AN INCONVENIENCE. I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND I AM IN SCHOOL AND HAVE WORK SO I CONTACTED NISSAN USA. AFTER SEVERAL PHONE CALLS I WAS ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT IN SIOUX CITY IA. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED AT MY EXPENSE TO SIOUX CITY. THEY LOOKED AT MY CAR AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE SHREDS OF METAL IN THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATED THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THEY STATED I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO BE REPLACED. IN THE RECALL THEY SAID IT WOULD BE REPLACED AT NISSANS EXPENSE, A TOW IF NECESSARY WOULD BE PAID AND A RENTAL VEHICLE WOULD BE PROVIDED. NONE OF THIS HAS HAPPENED. I WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED BY NISSAN. I TOLD THEM WHAT WAS WRONG AND MY MECHANIC CALLED AND TOLD THEM AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING TWO SENSORS LOCATED AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MECHANIC THEN ADVISED THAT THE REMEDY WAS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

THE MANUFACTURER THEN ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NON-DRIVABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,500.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V223000 RECALL DATE: 2006-06-21 SUMMARY: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE PISTON RINGS. CONSEQUENCES: IF THE OIL IS NOT MAINTAINED AT LEAST AT THE MINIMUM LEVEL, ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR AND IN EXTREME CASES RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM OR ENGINE COMPUTER). TOOK THE CAR TO MAINTENANCE SHOP AND PAID TO HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REMOVED AND REPLACED. HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW MONTHS, IN APRIL THE CAR STARTS JERKING AGAIN. PAID TO HAVE THE IGNITION COILS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. CAR ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON AND CAR STILL JERKING. CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATION AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. NOW THE DEALERSHIP REPLACES THE EGR VALVE AND 02 SENSOR. CAR ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON AND CAR STILL JERKING AS IF POSSESSED AS OF AUGUST 20, 2010. MONEY, MONEY AND MORE MONEY. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R WITH APPROXIMATELY 70K MILES ON IT. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE, HOWEVER, AT APPROXIMATELY 72K MILES IT STARTED BURNING OIL AND I HAD TO PUT OIL IN THE ENGINE ONCE A WEEK. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WERE THEY REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTED DUE TO A RECALL, BUT DID NOT STATE THAT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED TO THAT DEFECTIVE PART. I ASKED ABOUT AN ENGINE RECALL BUT NEVER RECEIVED AN ANSWER FROM THEM AS THEY SAID THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND HAD NO WARRANTS UNDER RECALL. *TR

THE CONTACT BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING APPROXIMATELY ONE QUART OF OIL A WEEK. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURES BEGAN TO RECUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE MELTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF AN ENGINE RECALL AND THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

MOTOR CONTINUED TO STOP ON ROAD, LEAVING CAR TO COAST SLOWLY OR BE BRAKED WITHOUT POWER BRAKES FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL VEHICLE WAS SERVICED. WHEN CAR STOPPED WHILE IDLED AT INTERSECTIONS, IT HAD TO BE PUSHED FROM BEHIND OUT OF THE INTERSECTION WHILE IN NEUTRAL GEAR. TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THIS WAS THE SAME SENSOR THAT WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 03V455000 DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE CAR NO LONGER STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF NISSAN NORTH AMERICA THAT THE RECALLED PART REPLACEMENT IS NOT UNDER RECALL AND THE BILL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED. AS SUCH, THE REPLACED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR APPEARS TO HAVE THE SAME GROUNDS FOR RECALL AS THE ORIGINAL PART THAT WAS RECALLED. THE DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS DISCARDED BY THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SERVICE CENTER AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE. *TR

THIS IS PERTAINING TO AN EXISTING CAMPAIGN (#03V084000). I BOUGHT A USED 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SER SPEC-V IN MAY 2007. SHORTLY AFTER MY PURCHASE (JUNE 2007), I HAD THIS OUTSTANDING RECALL, INCLUDING SEVERAL OTHERS PERFORMED. THE ABOVE RECALL STATES THAT THE PRE-CATALYST COULD OVERHEAT AND DISINTEGRATE, BLOWING PARTICULATE INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, SCORING THE CYLINDER WALLS, AND CAUSE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE, REQUIRING ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THERE WAS APPROX. 65,000 MILES ON THE CAR AT THIS POINT. LAST FEBRUARY, I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THE ENGINE WOULD BARELY RUN AND WOULD NOT REV OVER 2000 RPM. I HAD THIS CAR TOWED 20 MILES TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PRE-CATALYST THAT I HAD ALREADY HAD REPLACED ON THE RECALL, HAD DISINTEGRATED, PLUGGING MY EXHAUST, BLOWING CHUNKS OF DEBRIS INTO MY ENGINE, THEREFORE DESTROYING THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD I'D NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AT A COST OF $4300.00. THIS CAR ONLY HAD ANOTHER 50,000 MILES ON IT AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL WORK WAS DONE. SINCE WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT, I WENT TO NISSAN, REQUESTING THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN DEFECT AND AT THE VERY LEAST ASSIST ME IN REPLACING THIS ENGINE. I WAS GIVEN SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORIES RANGING FROM ACCUSATION THAT I DID NOT MAINTAIN THIS VEHICLE (EVEN THOUGH I DO SO RELIGIOUSLY AT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS) TO STATING THE DEALER I HAD THE WORK PERFORMED AT WAS AT FAULT AND I SHOULD PURSUE RESTITUTION FROM THEM, TO THE FACT THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS SOL AND THIS WAS 'NORMAL' WEAR AND TEAR. NOW, I CAN UNDERSTAND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT NO CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHOULD BE DESIGNED SO THAT IT WILL DESTROY AN ENGINE IF IT FAILS AND THIS WAS SUPPOSEDLY ADDRESSED IN THE ABOVE CAMPAIGN.
THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THAT MY ENGINE HAS CUT OFF DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE BUTTERFLY SCREWS ON THE INTAKE VALVE OF MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R SPEC V. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL ON THE 2003 AND UP MODELS BUT REFUSE TO ISSUE THE RECALL ON THE 2002 MODEL. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A HIGHWAY CRASH ON TWO OCCASIONS AS WELL AS CONTINUOUS DAMAGE TO MY ENGINE. *TR

WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ECM CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS IDENTIFIED AS "MIS-READING" THE CONDITION OF THE CAR. IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS INCIDENT IS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURE OF THE 2002 2.5L NISSAN SENTRA CRANKSHAFT SENSOR UNDER RECALL 07V527000. OUR CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL, THOUGH THE PART, SYSTEM, AND FAILURE ARE THE SAME. THE DIPSTICK BROKE IN THE ORDINARY COURSE OF STANDARD MAINTENANCE OF THE OIL IN THE CAR AND THE BROKEN DIPSTICK FELL IN, RESULTING IN A $250-$300 REPAIR (TO RETRIEVE THE DIPSTICK FROM THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE DIPSTICK). APPARENTLY, EVEN JIFFY LUBE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH NISSAN ON THIS FRONT AS WELL. IT WAS NECESSARY FOR US TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIR IMMEDIATELY AND AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, SINCE THE BROKEN DIPSTICK IN THE ENGINE WAS OBSTRUCTING THE ENTRY OF A NEW DIPSTICK AND ALSO DISTORTING THE MEASUREMENT OF THE OIL. HI, MY NAME IS [XXX] . I HAVE A COMPLAINT/RECOMMENDATION ABOUT THE MANNER IN WHICH A VEHICLE RECALL IS BEING HANDLED/PERFORMED. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R SPEC V. THIS VEHICLE HAS/HAD A RECALL IN PLACE TO FIX A CONDITION THAT WOULD LEAD TO UNREPAIRABLE ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONDITION YOU MAY BE AWARE OF AS A PRE-CAT (CATALYTIC CONVERTER LOCATED ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IN ADDITION TO THE MAIN ONE) FAILURE CONDITION. BASICALLY UNBURNED FUEL IS BURNED IN THE PRE-CAT RESULTING IN ITS DISINTEGRATION. IT IS THEN SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING CYLINDER WALL DAMAGE. THIS CONDITION RESULTS IN THE ENGINE BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, A FURTHER DEGRADE IN COMPRESSION OVER TIME AND OVERALL ENGINE FAILURE BEFORE IT SHOULD EXPIRE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THIS SITUATION HAPPENED TO ME AND I WAS NOTIFIED IN ANY MANOR AT ANY TIME ABOUT ANY RECALL EVEN DURING SERVICE FOR THE RECALLED ITEM. THIS REPAIR WAS IN EXCESS OF A THOUSAND DOLLARS. AT WHICH TIME I WAS TOLD NOTHING ABOUT THE PARTICLES BEING SUCKED INTO MY ENGINE CAUSING MY THE ENGINE WEAR WHICH CAUSED THE OIL CONDITION. AT THE VERY LEAST I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE RECALL AT THE TIME OF REPAIR AND OF MY OIL BEING CONTAMINATED. INSTEAD I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE 100+ MILES TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. IT WOULD OF GREAT HELP IS YOU COULD LOOK INTO THIS MATTER OR MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW ELSE THIS WOULD BE BEST HANDLED? THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT FIVE MINUTES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE HOME. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA. WHEN THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, HE HAD THE OIL CONSUMPTION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM INSPECTED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL, CAUSING THE PISTON RINGS TO WEAR DOWN. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED OF A RECALL WITH THIS IDENTICAL FAILURE, WHICH STATED THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO REPLACE THE PARTS AS WELL AS INSTALL A CATALYST. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER TO SEE IF HE COULD HAVE THIS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL, BUT THEY STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA S-ER. THREE YEARS AGO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO VARIOUS COMPONENTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED THE REST OF THE DAY. THE DEALER ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A CRACK IN THE WIRING HARNESS. THE COST TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS WAS $1,800, DOES NOT INCLUDE LABOR OR GUARANTEE THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE CORRECTED. THREE YEARS LATER, IN MARCH OF 2008, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ECM, WHICH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT OFF. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL AS LONG AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE MECHANICS WERE NOT QUALIFIED THREE YEARS AGO. THEY LEFT BLOWN AND LOOSE FUSES IN THE ENGINE AND ALSO DISCONNECTED THE WIRING HARNESS. THE CONTACT PAID OVER $400 TO HAVE THE O2 SENSORS REPLACED AND THEY HAVE FAILED AGAIN. THE ECM REPAIR WAS ONLY GUARANTEED UNDER WARRANTY FOR 80,000 MILES; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 83,000 MILES. THE ECM REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THREE YEARS AGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS FOR A FAILURE THAT WAS IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSED THREE YEARS AGO. THERE ARE INVOICES AVAILABLE THAT INDICATE THE SAME COMPUTER READING THAT WAS DISPLAYED THREE YEARS AGO IS THE SAME READING THAT IS DISPLAYED TODAY. THE COMPLAINT IS RELATED TO HAVING TO PAY FOR A FAILURE THAT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

NISSAN STATED THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $400 AND $500 TO DISSECT THE ENGINE AND LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 107,000.
MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLS AND I HAVE REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE CAR TENDS TO STALL MORE AFTER IT RAINS AND IT COULD STALL FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS AND THAN IT WILL STOP BUT IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I HAVE TAKEN FOR REPAIRS THREE TIMES AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I SEE THERE ARE RECALLS FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE 2001 & 2003 NISSAN SENTRA DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CRANK SENSOR. THERE IS AN EXCESSIVE OIL AND ANTIFREEZE LEAK THAT COULD ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 114,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE MUFFLER WAS REPAIRED BY ANOTHER SHOP, THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION, EXCESSIVE SMOKING, AND MADE A KNOCKING SOUND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 64,439.
SINCE 09/07 I HAVE PAID MORE THAN $2500.00 TO REPLACE, CHANGE, CHECK, AND MAINTAIN THE OIL IN MY CAR. I KNOW HAVE TO CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 1,500 MILES INSTEAD OF EVERY 3,000 SO IT WONT BURN OUT THE ENGINE. IT IS A 2002 ALTIMA BUT APPARENTLY THE "VIN" NUMBER IS NOT ONE THAT WAS IN THE RECALLED NUMBERS YET IT IS HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT THE OTHER WERE RECALLED FOR. HOW IS IT THAT RANDOM NUMBER ARE CHOSEN TO FIX AND OTHERS ARE LEFT TO SHELL OUT AND MORE LIKELY HAVE TO BUY A NEW (OF COURSE NOT A NISSAN AT THIS POINT) CARE. *TR
MY NEW CAR WAS PERFORMING AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO AND MAINTENANCE WAS BEING COMPLETED ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE. MY VEHICLE STARTED TO CUT OFF DURING OPERATION IN 2004/5. IT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE DRIVEWAY, EXPRESSWAYS, ETC. IT DIDN'T MATTER. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. NEXT MY HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO BLOW A BULB EVERY 2,0000-3,000 MILES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED IT. THIS OCCURRED IN 2005. MID- JULY TO LATE NOVEMBER 2006 MY CAR BEGAN TO STALL IN COLD/WARM WEATHER. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. MY CAR STARTED TO CONSUME OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE IN APRIL 2007. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER YET AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD IT HAD INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE EXTERNAL COMPONENTS. I WAS QUOTED $4,000-$4,200 FOR A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN MY REPAIR WORK AND OIL CHANGES AT NISSAN DEALERS AND NOW WHEN MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS GONE I AM TOLD I NEED TO BUY AN ENGINE. THIS IS UNFAIR AND COSTLY. I CANNOT USE THE CAR FOR WORK COMMUTES OR TO GET TO SCHOOL. NISSAN HAS BEEN TOLD MANY TIMES ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT FAILURE AND THE MECHANICS BASICALLY ONLY CARE THAT YOU BUY/NOT BUY A MOTOR. I SHOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR THIS CAR WHEN IT IS CLEARLY A MECHANICAL DESIGN DEFECT THAT HAS CAUSED ME SO MUCH TIME, MONEY AND PAIN. I LEFT IT AT MY SISTER'S APARTMENT FOR 3 MONTHS BECAUSE IT WOULD START AND CUT OFF, IF AT ALL. I DROVE THE CAR THE OTHER DAY AFTER TRYING TO GET IT STARTED FOR 2 DAYS. IT DROVE LIKE A DREAM. NOW I CAN'T GET IT STARTED TO EVEN GET TO AND FROM ANYWHERE. I HAVE NUMEROUS REASONS FOR THINKING NISSAN SHOULD BE LIABLE. WHATEVER THEY ARE CURRENTLY DOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS OKAY BUT THERE ARE LOTS AND LOTS OF ENGINES DAMAGED DUE TO THESE RECALL ITEMS THAT WERE NOT HANDLED BY THE DEALERS AND NISSAN PROPERLY. *TR
MY VEHICLE WOULD CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALLS R3022 (CRANK POSITION SENSOR) AND THE INSIDE LINING OF THE ECM BOX REMOVED. BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE ECM BOX FROM THE LINING BY ECM BOX HAS TO BE UNJUSTLY FIXED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR
OIL DIP STICK BROKE ON 2002 NISSAN SENTRA. WITH ONLY ABOUT 60,000 MILES ON THE NISSAN SENTRA, THE PLASTIC OIL DIP STICK BROKE OFF INSIDE THE TUBE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIRS AT A AN OUT OUTRAGEOUS COST OF $380.63. CHECKING THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SURELY APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE DIP STICK AND NISSAN SHOULD INITIATE A RECALL TO REPLACE EXISTING OIL STICKS MADE OF PLASTIC. ADDITIONAL, NISSAN SHOULD REIMBURSE THE OWNERS WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR

DUE TO THIS AND THE NORMAL HEATING AND COOLING OF THE ENGINE, IT HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM THE DIPSTICK AND THE DIPSTICK IS STUCK DOWN IN THE DIPSTICK TUBE. TO GET THIS OUT AND REPLACE IT, THE DEALERSHIPS AND REPAIR GARAGES WANT $100-200+ DOLLARS. THIS I HAVE LEARNED IS A COMMON DEFECT AMONG MOST CARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
SEVERE ENGINE FAILURE. I BOUGHT MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SPEC-V WITH ONLY 7,000 MILES ON IT AND THOUGHT I HAD A GREAT CAR. THANK GOODNESS I OPTED FOR THE EXTRA 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY CAR'S ENGINE EXPERIENCED MASSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AROUND 60,000 AND I NOTICED THE WHOLE TIME I OWNED THE CAR THAT THE OIL WAS ALWAYS LOW EACH TIME I CHANGED IT. I USED ONLY MOBIL 1 FULL SYN EVERY 5,000 MILES. THE ENGINE FAILED 3,000 OVER THE STANDARD 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I FOUGHT WITH NISSAN FOR 1 MONTH WHILE THEY KEPT MY CAR UNTIL I PROVIDED OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. ONCE I PROVIDED THEM THEY CHANGED THE COMPLETE ENGINE WHICH TOTALED $8,500 AND MORE THAN THE CAR WAS WORTH ANYMORE. FURTHER FOR ABOUT 70,000 THE CAR HAD EXTENDED CRANK PROBLEMS AND WERE SEVERE IN HOT OR EXTREME COLD WEATHER. THE CAR WOULD TAKE 20 SECONDS OR LONGER TO CRANK OVER WHILE PUMPING THE GAS. AFTER MY 3RD COMPLAINT AT MY 3RD NISSAN DEALER THEY FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM AND PUT IN A NEW FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR. THE CAR HAS 98,000 AND 36,000 MILES AFTER THE NEW ENGINE. I AM THINKING OF GETTING RID OF IT BEFORE MORE TROUBLE HAPPENS BEYOND MY 100K WARRANTY. *TR

WE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE SERVICE CENTER OF MIKE SHAD NISSAN AND HAD THE SYSTEM REFLASHED..SPEEDOMETER WORKED BRIEFLY AND WENT OUT AGAIN..TO THIS DAY IT CONTINUES TO STAY ON "ENGINE LIGHT", AND THE SPEEDOMETER STILL WORKS OFF AND ON AND CONTINUES TO WREAK HAVOC ON MAINTAINING A SAFE SPEED. ALSO A MAJOR ISSUE REGARDING THE "LONG ENGINE CRANK TIME BEFORE ENGINE STARTS". I HAVE FOUND INFORMATION THRU THE INTERNET INFORMING THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE ('02 SENTRA) AND HAVE SUBMITTED AN EMAIL TO THE SERVICE DEPT OF MIKE SHAD NISSAN TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BUT NO RESPONSE. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CRANK TIME ENDANGERS NOT ONLY ME BUT MY FAMILY AS WELL. I CANNOT TRUST THE CAR TO CRANK PROPERLY WHICH THEREFORE PUTS THE RELIABILITY FACTOR IN JEOPARDY WHEN MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER FOR SCHOOL AND USE THE VEHICLE TO AND FROM WORK. THE HANDLE ON THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK HAS BROKEN OFF. THE STICK ITSELF IS NOW IN THE DIPSTICK TUBE. I WAS LOOKING ON THE INTERNET YESTERDAY, AUGUST 12, 2007 AND UNCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN VEHICLES. *TR

THE DEALER PERFORMED TWO REPAIRS UNDER RECALL # 03V477000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE) AND RECALL # 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE STILL DOES NOT START. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,003.

VEHICLE(2002 NISSAN SENTRA GXE) BECOMES ROUGH AND THE ENGINE STOP INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) WAS DETECTED TO BE BAD. IT WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $95.00. THE VEHICLE ODOMETER WAS SHOWING ABOUT 47,000 MILES. TALKED TO THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER AND I WAS TOLD THAT ALL RECALLS WERE ALREADY DONE ON THIS VEHICLE ON MARCH 24TH, 2004 AT STEVENS CREEK NISSAN. THIS INCLUDED RECTIFYING THE DEFECTS RELATED TO ECM. HOWEVER THE ECM BECAME BAD AGAIN. THERE MAY BE DEFECTS WHICH HAVE NOT COME TO THE REVIEW. PLEASE HELP TO IDENTIFY THE DEFECTS AND MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFE ON THE ROAD.*JB

I OWN A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES ON IT. ONE DAY LAST MONTH, ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, MY CAR STALLED AT A RED LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AND DRIVE IT THE 15 MILES TO MY DEALERSHIP, BUT IT STALLED AT LEAST TWICE ON THE WAY. THE ENGINE ALSO WAS NOT RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ON. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT A "POWER VALVE SCREW" HAD COME LOOSE AND WORKED ITS WAY INTO ONE OF MY CYLINDERS WHERE IT THEN PROCEEDED TO SMASH A SPARK PLUG. ALSO, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN RECALL ISSUE ON THE 2003 AND 2004 NISSAN SENTRA SE-RS AND ON THE ALTIMA'S, BUT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ISSUED FOR 2002 SENTRA SE-RS. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (75,000 MILES) HAD JUST RUN OUT AND MY DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT NISSAN CORPORATE TO SEE IF THEY WOULD INTERVENE AND HELP, SINCE ALL OF THE PARTS INVOLVED AND THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM EXACTLY MATCHED WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE '03 AND '04S. I ENDED UP PAYING OVER $600 (AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE, HAD MY DEALERSHIP NOT TAKEN PITY ON ME AND GIVEN ME A DISCOUNT) TO GET SOMETHING FIXED ON MY CAR THAT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THE 2 MODEL YEARS FOLLOWING 2002, BUT THAT (FOR SOME REASON) DIDN'T INCLUDE MY CAR. AT 6:30 AM, I WAS DRIVING, TRYING TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS WITH THE DEFROSTER AT A LIGHT AND THE CAR STARTED A JERKING MOTION AND OVERHEATED. I PARKED THE CAR AT FAMILY MEMBER'S RESIDENCE. NISSAN MADE A DECISION NOT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IN MY 4 YEAR OLD CAR THAT RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE; BUT TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKETS (WHICH FROM WHAT I AM TOLD IS A TEMPORARY FIX). NISSAN DID NOT SEND ME A RECALL NOTICE EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD MY NAME AND ADDRESS. I REGISTERED THE CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT USED. MARCH 16 2006 MY NISSAN HAD 115754 KMS ON IT WHEN I TOOK IT INTO NISSAN VICTORIA FOR THE RECALLS. THEY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS (3 IN TOTAL) RECALL R86. REMOVED ECM CASE HOLDER FOAM R87. JUNE 20, 2006 I WAS HEADING TO THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY ENGINE STARTED RACING AND JERKING, I DROVE IT HOME. THE CAR DIED AND I HAD IT TOWED TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY HOUSE. I WAS SO LUCKY I WASN'T GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH LOTS OF TRAFFIC! THE MECHANIC CAME TO THE CONCLUSION FAIRLY QUICKLY THAT IT MIGHT BE THE COMPUTER AND HE CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTERS. I RENTED A CAR IN THE MEANTIME TO GET TO WORK. THE MECHANIC GOT A USED COMPUTER FROM THE AUTO WRECKER AND THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. APPARENTLY THE FOAM ON THE ECM DAMAGED THE COMPUTER (SOME KIND OF GAS-FUMES) WHILE IT WAS CURING. THIS IS WHY NISSAN REMOVED THE FOAM. MAYBE THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID ANOTHER RECALL LIKE FOR THE SENSORS...TOO LATE... I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ECM. I DON'T TRUST THE USED ECM I HAVE IN THE CAR BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. BUT I FEEL THAT NISSAN SHOULD EITHER REBUILD OR GIVE ME A NEW COMPUTER. WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE TODAY AND THE MECHANIC PULLED THE DIPSTICK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HALF OF THE PLASTIC HANDLE THAT THE DIPSTICK WAS ATTACHED TO HAD BROKEN OFF. WE LUCKILY WERE ABLE TO REMOVE THE DIPSTICK FROM HOME WITH A PENCIL AND TAPE, HOWEVER THIS SIGNIFIES A MORE COMMON PROBLEM THAT THIS VEHICLE IS MADE OF SHOTTY PARTS. I HAD TO GET A TUNE-UP AT 25,000 MILES, MY BATTERY HAS CORROSION PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATED MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO FIX, AND MY COMPUTER DIED AT 40,000 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WILL NOW HAVE TO PURCHASE A DIPSTICK SINCE THEY USED A SHOTTY PLASTIC PART THAT CORRODED AND BROKE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. IT MAY NOT BE A SAFETY HAZARD, HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURE NEEDS TO BE HELD LIABLE. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS IN THE 2002 AND 2003 MODELS AS I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO WORK WITH THEM IN A REASONABLE MANNER. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL ISSUE AS NOTED IN DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH ENGINES CATCHING ON FIRE OR CAR STALLING AND LOCKING UP IN TRAFFIC. WENT ON THE NISSAN WEBSITE AND FOUND TWO RECALLS, THEY WERE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE CASE HOLDER AND HEAD LAMP ADJUSTER. THEN, TOOK CAR INTO DEALERSHIP, THEY RAN VIN # AND THEY FOUND THREE RECALLS, ONE WAS ON THE FOAM ON THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND THE OTHER TWO WERE UNKNOWN. ONE OF THE RECALLS WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN OR CUT OFF. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY AUGUST 19, 2005. THEY DID NOT REPAIR DUE TO WARRANTY ISSUES. SPOKE TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE OF NISSAN AND THEY SAID THIS CAR WOULD NOT BE FIXED BY NISSAN WITHOUT COST. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND IT IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP.*AK

THE DRIVE BELT WAS ADJUSTED DUE TO LOOSENESS. THE VEHICLE STAYED QUIET FOR THREE DAYS THEN THE NOISE STARTED AGAIN. THE WEATHER COULD CAUSE A GLAZE ON THE DRIVE BELT WHICH CAUSED NOISES. AFTER BEING REPAIRED IT WAS FOUND THAT VEHICLE WAS STILL SHUTTING OFF. *AK CUSTOMER WAS CHARGED FOR REPAIR THAT WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL NOTICE. AFTER PAYING FOR THE SERVICE THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. AFTER FOUR ADDITIONAL TRIPS LIGHT FINALLY WENT OFF. ELECTRIC TAPE WAS USE TO REPAIR HARNESS NOW CAR SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING WHILE DRIVING. *EH *JB
WENT TO CHECK THE OIL AND THE PLASTIC DIPSTICK HAD BROKEN OFF AND THE DIPSTICK HAS FALLEN DOWN INTO THE ENGINE. CHECKING ONLINE FOR HELP ON REMOVAL SHOWS A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.THEY WANT $156 DOLLARS TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED WITH A NEW DIPSTICK NOT MADE OF PLASTIC FOR $3.*JB
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLE RESTARTED, AND THEY CONTINUED ON DRIVING. LATER, VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHO INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR THAT WAS ON RECALL. CONSUMER DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. HOWEVER, PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHEN I WENT TO GET MY OIL CHANGED THE MECHANIC WENT TO PULL THE DIPSTICK OUT AND SINCE IT IS PLASTIC AND IS LOCATED NEXT TO THE MANIFOLD IT DRIED OUT AND BROKE. NOW THE METAL PART OF THE DIPSTICK IS STUCK IN THE TUBE.

AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB I NOTICED A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2000 NISSAN SENTRA (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 01V357000). YOU WOULD THINK THIS ISSUE WOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED AFTER 2 MODEL YEARS.*AK
DRIVING AT 75 MPH, CAR VERY SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 45 MPH. SUBSEQUENT TO THIS, CAR OPERATED SPORADICALLY UNTIL GOING PAST 15 MPH WAS IMPOSSIBLE. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT HAS REMAINED FOR A MONTH AWAITING A DEFECTIVE ECU REPLACEMENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER LATER INFORMED THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD OCCURRENCE, AND THAT NISSAN CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND OF THIS PARTICULAR PART(THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER). AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT, I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PULLED TO THE SHOULDER FROM THE FAST LANE. MY VEHICLE HAS 20,000 MILES. *LA

THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE AND THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WOULD DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FIRST TIME OCCURRED AT 2 WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW WITH ONLY 600 MILES ON IT! THIS HAS OCCURRED OVER 3 TIMES. THE 3RD TIME RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAS SERVICED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. THE NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND NISSAN ARBITRATION HAS TESTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS MODEL SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS IN 2000 AND 2001. I LEASED A SENTRA SE-R IN NOV 2002. SINCE GETTING THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE CAR RANDOMLY DOES NOT START. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR WANTS TO TURN OVER, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO IT. THE CAR STARTS FINE SOME DAYS, AND THEN SOMETIMES IT JUST DOESN'T WANT TO START. I'VE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TWICE - THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IN JUNE, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, THE DEALER HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TROUBLE STARTING WHEN IT RAINS OUT - AND THAT MUST BE THE PROBLEM. (ARE THEY INSANE - I ASKED MYSELF - THE CAR WON'T START WHEN IT RAINS? THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL EVERY TIME I START THE CAR - A FUEL INJECTED CAR?) SO, THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. BUT TWICE SINCE THE CAR HAS NOT WANTED TO START. THE CAR HAS, SINCE THE DAY I LEASED IT, RANDOMLY STALLED RIGHT AFTER STARTING. WHY? NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW. THEN, THIS WEEKEND WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY, AT ABOUT 70 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED OR ACCELERATE. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, AND BY THAT POINT THE ENGINE DIED. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS OVER 20 MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED BUT THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT REMAINED ON. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY TO TRAVEL HOME FROM WHERE I WAS, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, STARTING MAKING HORRIBLE BANGING NOISES AND IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND HAD NO POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT BEFORE HAVING TO CALL FOR A TOW. THERE WAS A RECALL RECENTLY ON THE SENTRA - RELATING TO THE ENGINE AND POSSIBLE FIRES - AND THE PARTS REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED - SO I AM LEFT WONDERING WHAT KIND OF JUNK I HAVE BEEN STUCK WITH... IT SEEMS THAT IT IS ONE PROBLEM AFTER ANOTHER WITH THIS CAR. *JB
MY CAR HAS HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON 5 TIMES SINCE APRIL 2003, EVERYTIME IT HAS BEEN THE SAME PROBLEM, IT STARTS IDLEING AT A VERY SPARATIC PACE, ALSO I LOSE THE THROTTLE. I OWN A 2002 SENTRA SPEC V AND THIS IS MY SECOND ONE IN 10 MONTHS THAT HAS FAILED TO PERFORM AS IT SHOULD. THE CURRENT VEHICLE HAS HAD 1 NEW ENGINE, 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD, 2 WINDOW REGULATORS, 2 NEW WINDOWS, THREE NEW DOOR SPEAKERS, TWO SHIFT KNOBS, 1 TIMING BELT TENSIONER, 1 THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING IT'S THIRD ENGINE. CAR CONSUMES OIL AT A RAPID RATE OF 2 QUARTS PER 1200 MILES. TRIED AN INFORMAL RESOLUTION AND NISSAN REJECTED. DEALER AGREES THE CAR SHOULD BE BOUGHT BACK. SYMPTOMS THAT I HAVE, LEAD TO POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE AND IS BEING ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. I WAS SENT HOME IN A VEHICLE THAT WAS UNSAFE AND THEY DID NOT WANT TO FIX THIS LAST TIME AND WERE DENYING THE CAR HAD ANY PROBLEM. I FOUGHT A LONG HARD BATTLE JUST TO GET IT FIXED. *NLM
NOW AT 20,800 MILES I THINK MY CAR MAY BE BURNING OIL.LOST 2 QUARTS IN 3000 MILES. DIP STICK ACTUALLY CAME UP DRY BUT NO OIL LIGHT. IM TAKING IT IN TOMORROW TO HAVE THE TRANNY REPLACED ALONG WITH SOME O2 SENSORS THAT WENT BAD. ALSO IM HAVING IT CHECKED BECAUSE THE TRUNK AND DRIVERS/FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LEAKS. ENGINE FAILED IN SE-R SPEC-V FROM NISSAN CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2002 SENTRA SE-R SPEC V IN FEB OF 2002. I HAVE HAD MAJOR ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, BEFORE THE CAR WAS EVEN A YEAR OLD I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS 3 TIMES. THEY REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION 2 TIMES. THE SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS WITH A 2003 TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN MY CAR IN 2 TIMES FOR THE ENGINE. MY ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED 2 TIMES. BOTH TIMES MY ENGINE WAS FOUND WITH NO OIL IN IT EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS FAR FROM BEING DO FOR AN OIL CHANGE. MY CAR CONSUMES OIL AND I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO ADD. THESE PROBLEMS ARE EXCESSIVE AND RIDICULES FOR A CAR THAT IS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD. *JB

CONSUMER STATES THAT SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND TRYING TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE THE VEHICLE STARTED TO REV UP AND WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO GO IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE WENT IN REVERSE AT A HIGH SPEED UNTIL THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. CONTACTED DEALER AND THE DEALER CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *MR
