FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK
NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 AND MODEL YEAR 2008 FRONTIER, XTERRA AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE MOLDED FUEL TANK SHELLS CAN DEFORM, CAUSING THE FUEL SENDER FLOAT ARM TO CONTACT AN EMBOSSMENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK SHELL CAUSING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY ONE QUARTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WITH A NEW ONE THAT HAS A MODIFIED FLOAT ARM. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 22, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

WHILE DRIVING CAR WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE GOING TO SHUT OFF..WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF RECALLS AND WE BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW WE TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND WAS INFORMED RADIATOR WAS LEAKING ON TRANSMISSION AND WE WOULD REQUIRE UP TO $3,500 FOR REPAIRS WHICH INCLUDED A USED TRANSMISSION

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO MODERN NISSAN OF WINSTON-SALEM (5795 UNIVERSITY PKWY, WINSTON-SALEM, NC 27105, (336) 767-8260) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN GAS GAUGE NEARS 1/4 FULL THE NEEDLE EITHER STICKS OR DROPS TO EMPTY. THE GAUGE DOES NOT RETURN TO FULL FOR SEVERAL TRIPS OR DAYS. NISSAN HAS HAD RECALLS FOR THIS BUT INDICATES MY VIN # IS NOT ON THEIR LIST. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS EXACTLY AS IT IS DESCRIBED ON THE RECALL. I HAVE COMPENSATED FOR THIS BY KEEPING TRACK OF MY MILEAGE SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2014.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIESTA NISSAN (2005 ST MICHAELS DR., SANTA FE, NM 87505, (505) 955-1000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
THE SCANNER IS SHOWING DTC P0463 FUEL LEVEL SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT HIGH. WHY MOST CAR ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND MINE HAS NOT? THIS PROBLEM IS PREVENTING THE SYSTEM FROM SHOWING THE ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF THE ENGINE FAILS AND STOP. PLEASE ADVISE.
MY HUSBAND HAS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AND RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO A FAULTY READING ON THE GAS GAUGE. HE HAD TO WALK FROM THE HIGHWAY IN RECORD LOW COLD TO THE GAS STATION WITH HIS DISABILITY IN THE COLD WEATHER TO GET GAS AND BACK. FUEL GAUGE WAS READING INCORRECT AND I AM AWARE THAT THERE IS NHSTA RECAL ID 10V075000. THE CHEC ENGINE LIGHT WAS ACTIVATED AND I HAD TO GET IT REPAIRED IN ORDER TO GET AN INSPECTION STICKER IN MASSACHUSETTS.
THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT LIT UP WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. THERE IS A RECALL CAMPAIGN BULLETIN UNDER NISSAN PC042 AND NHTSA# 10V-075. THE NISSAN DEALER WILL NOT COVER THE COSTS OF PARTS AND LABOR EVEN AFTER I SHOWED THEM THE DOCUMENTATION FOR THE RECALL. I NEED TO GET REIMBURSED BASED ON THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE ATTACHED DOCUMENTATION SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
IN 3/2017 I RECEIVED NHTSA SAFETY RECALL NO. 10V-075 FROM NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON 3/31/2017 FOR THIS WORK TO BE PERFORMED KNOWING THIS WAS A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INVOLVING THE GAS TANK FLOAT. AFTER THE WORK WAS PERFORMED THE FUEL GAUGE GIVES FALSE READINGS: WHEN THE GAUGE REACHES ABOUT 1/2 FULL IT DROPS TO EMPTY AND THE "DISTANCE TO EMPTY" COMPUTER SAYS 12 MILES LEFT UNTIL RUNNING OUT OF GAS. WHEN FILLING UP WITH WITH THE GAUGE READING EMPTY AND 12 DTE THE TANK WILL ONLY ACCEPT 12 GALLONS AND IT'S A 21.1 GALLON CAPACITY TANK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO SCOTT CLARK NISSAN IN CHARLOTTE, NC 4/12/2017 AND 6/28/2017. I'VE ALSO FILED A FORMAL CASE/COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA: 27312766. NISSAN IS REFUSING TO FIX THE ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE MALFUNCTION WAS A RESULT OF THE SAFETY RECALL WORK. THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS WE DO NOT KNOW IF/WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL RUN OUT OF FUEL. AGAIN, I'VE TRIED TO WORK WITH SCOTT CLARK NISSAN IN CHARLOTTE, NC AND NISSAN NORTH AMERICAN IN GOOD FAITH TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. WHILE RESEARCHING A TRANSMISSION ISSUE ON MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER, MY HUSBAND CAME ACROSS RECALL #10V075000 FOR THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FOR 2006 PATHFINDERS. AFTER ALL THE TRANSMISSION/RADIATOR REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED (ANOTHER ISSUE THAT NISSAN WAS WELL AWARE OF BUT HAS NOT REMEDIED) MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE TO HAVE THE CODE READ. THEY PUT IT ON A CODE READER AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO BRING MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN AND THAT THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID FOR OUT OF MY POCKET. I THEN CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA WHERE I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY CAR INTO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP: 1) ASK FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CODE ON THE PART 2) GET THE NAME OF THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND DEALERSHIP 3) GET AN ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR/REPLACEMENT AND I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND HAD ALL OF THOSE THINGS ACCOMPLISHED. I THEN CALLED BACK AND GAVE NISSAN ALL THE REQUIRED INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK WITH A DECISION. 2 DAYS LATER SOMEONE FROM CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE MY VIN IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THAT PERSONS SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD THAT SUPERVISORS DID NOT HAVE CUSTOMER CONTACT..SO MUCH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT MY CAR IS SHOWING ALL OF THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS THAT GO ALONG WITH THIS PROBLEM INCLUDING; MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON, THE COMPUTER SHOWING THE CODE FOR THE ISSUE, MY DIGITAL GAS GAUGE NOT READING CORRECTLY, MY REGULAR GAS GAUGE NOT GOING BELOW TANK, AND ALMOST RUNNING OUT OF GAS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME. . I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO RELY ON MY ODOMETER TO INDICATE WHEN I SHOULD REFILL MY GAS TANK.

ONCE FILLED, THE FUEL GAUGE WILL NOT GIVE AN ACCURATE FUEL LEVEL FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST 50 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR
GETTING READY TO GO OUT TO SHOP GOT IN THE CAR STARTED IT UP AND THE FUEL GAUGE READ EMPTY AND THE YELLOW LIGHT CAME ON. THINKING IT WAS OUT OF GAS WENT TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL IT UP AND IT WAS ALREADY FULL SINCE THEN THE LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON AND THE GAUGE STILL READS EMPTY. ALSO THE TRIP DATA WILL NOT SHOW IT JUST HAS A STRAIGHT LINE THAT RUNS ACROSS. AS OF THEN HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT DUE TO THE SAFETY OF NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE CAR. *TR

MY VEHICLE, AS I HAD THOUGHT, HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED NO GAS WHATSOEVER AND MY GAS LIGHT TURNED ON. WHILE DRIVING ANOTHER 20 MILES TO MY NEAREST GAS STATION, MY VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOWLY DE-ACCELERATE. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MY CAR NO LONGER HAD SPEED AND I REALIZED IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD NO GAS WHEN I THOUGHT I DID. I WAS ABLE TO PUT GAS ON MY CAR AND SURE ENOUGH IT STARTED RUNNING AGAIN BUT BEING THAT I ONLY PUT ABOUT 10 GALLONS OF GAS, MY GAS LIGHT STILL STAYED ON AND MY NOZZLE STILL SHOWED BELOW THE EMPTY LINE. I WAS WORRIED EVERY DAY THAT I WOULD RUN OUT AND SURE ENOUGH THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. BEFORE THAT THOUGH, I VIEWED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS ONE. I DECIDED TO CALL MY LOCAL NISSAN AND AFTER PROVIDING MY VIN #, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE SPECIFIED ISSUE. THE FUEL SENSOR WENT, THE GAS GAUGE DROPPED DOWN TO E AND THE GAS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON, WHICH IN TURN SET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I OWN A 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER, FIRST MY FUEL SENSOR FAILED, AND NOW AT APPROX 92,000 MILES MY VEHICLE HAS THIS HORRIBLE VIBRATION AT 45MPH AND 60 MPH. OUR PATHFINDER HAS FAILED AND BEEN "REPAIRED" 7 TIMES NOW FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S RELATED TO THE ISSUE ABOUT THE FUEL SENDING UNITS. I WAS EVEN ALSO TOLD BY NISSAN THAT THE SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 22K MILES. MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAD BEEN HAVING FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. FINALLY AFTER THE ANNOYANCE BECAME TOO MUCH, WE TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE ASSEMBLY THAT INVOLVED A RECALL. UNFORTUNATELY FOR US, WE MISSED THE RECALL BY LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS. I WAS CONTACTED BY [XXX] FROM 1-800-343-6913 EXT#[XXX], WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HONOR THE RECALL AND MAKE THE REPAIR, BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE MY PATHFINDER SERVICED AT NISSAN. HE THEN SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. WELL, I HAVE TAKEN IT IN ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THEY DID NOT SPOT IT ON EITHER OCCASION. ON TUESDAY FEB 14, 2012 I TOOK MY CAR IN CAUSE IT HAD A RECALL FOR THE GAS GAUGE NOT READING GAS LEVEL. MY CAR WAS READING CHECK ENGINE SOON, CAR WAS WORKING PERFECT THEY PUT THE COMPUTER ON AND NOTHING CAME UP AS THE CAR HAVING ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. EVEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TURNED OFF. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING FUEL SENDING UNIT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED ON JANUARY 9, 2009, HE HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 425.95. IN JULY 2010, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM NISSAN STATING A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. ONLY JULY 15, 2010, THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE UNIT NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. ON OCTOBER 28, 2010, THE CONSUMER TOOK HIS VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE UNIT WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED. HOWEVER, HE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS. AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A FUEL TANK AND FUEL SENDING UNIT SINCE BOTH WERE MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION. WITHIN A YEAR OF HAVING THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL, THE SAME SYMPTOM APPEARED AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL AND AS WAS HAPPENING BEFORE THE INITIAL RECALL WORK WAS DONE. THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS A DEFORMATION OF THE FUEL TANK THAT WOULD CAUSE THE SENDING UNIT TO "HANG UP". WHEN I RETURNED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AGAIN, THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A BULGING FUEL TANK AND WANTED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEY REVIEWED MY CLAIM AND DECIDED THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. CALLED HONDA AND THE SALES MAN THAT SOLD US THE CAR SAID TO BRING IT BACK TO THEIR 3RD PARTY BUT DID NOT GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL HELP PAY FOR THE ISSUE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED WITH GAS. THE GAUGE WILL MOVE ANYWHERE BETWEEN EMPTY, WITH THE GAS LIGHT COMING ON, TO FULL. WIFE AND DAUGHTER THOUGHT THEY HAD A FUEL LEAK AND PULLED ONTO EMERGENCY SHOULDER ON BUSY INTERSTATE AT RUSH HOUR BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO 1/4 TANK WITHIN A FEW MILES OF FILLING UP. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THE 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS RECALLED FOR THIS REASON, BUT I WAS TOLD MY VIN DID NOT QUALIFY SO THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE. *TR

THIS SAME ISSUE HAS TRIGGERED A RECALL FOR 2005 AND 2006 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF MY MANUFACTURER DATE YET HAS NOT BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL OF THE 2006 MODEL YEAR. MY WIFE [XXX] PURCHASED OUR NISSAN PATHFINDER 2006, HER FATHER [XXX] COSIGNED FOR HER. WE HAD A 36,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE. AT 40K THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING IN LATE 2008, I TOOK IT BACK TO BENSON NISSAN IN EASLEY SC WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM NEW, THEY TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE FUEL SENSOR INSIDE THE TANK AND WOULD COST US $700 TO FIX, AND WOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF IT, AS THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THERE WAS NO RECALL ON IT. I TALKED TO THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPT AT NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MINE WAS BUILT IN MAY AND THE SERVICE MANAGER AT HARRISONBURG, VA NISSAN ADVISES I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069A , WHICH SEEMS TO INDICATE THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL MODELS, INCLUDING XTERRA'S. I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND PULLED THE CODE PO463 WHICH CONFIRMED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS THE ISSUE. NOW TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY THEY APPARENTLY WON'T COVER IT. *TR

"I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS ON MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND WENT TO FILL UP. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I TURNED ON THE CAR, AT WHICH POINT THE NEEDLE DID NOT REGISTER THE FULL TANK. AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER COVERED AFTER 30K MILES. AFTER RETURNING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH, I WENT ONLINE TO X.NISSANHELP.COM AFTER PERFORMING A SEARCH, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. A SIMILAR PROBLEM WAS FOUND ON THE 2000-2004 XTERRA MODELS AND A RECALL WAS PERFORMED WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP AFTER NOT GETTING ANY FUEL, POSING A GREAT DANGER(I HAVE TO YOUNG KIDS). IT SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IN THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND WILL CORRODE OVER TIME. THERE IS A GENERAL CONSENSUS THAT EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE PROBLEM IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 3 YRS AND WITH AROUND 57K. IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED IN PREVIOUS MODELS, AND IT WAS RECALLED, THE 2005-2007 XTERRAS, FRONTIERS, AND PATHFINDERS SHOULD GET THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER!! THE GAS GAUGE OF MY 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER WILL NOT REGISTER A CORRECT AMOUNT AND THE SES LIGHT COMES ON AFTER I FILL THE TANK. THEN THE GAUGE DROPS TO 0 AND THE LIGHTS START TO FLASH THAT THERE IS NO GAS. I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH 51,000 MILES THAT HAS JUST ENCOUNTERED AN BAD FUEL SENDING UNIT. ERROR CODE P0463. SINCE IT HAS PASSED THE 3YR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY, I AM GOING TO BE PAYING ABOUT $500 TO GET IT FIXED. 2006 NISSAN PATHFINDER WAS PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT 2006. IN 2008 WITH APPROXIMATELY 53,000 MILES ON VEHICLE, THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED WHICH RESULTED IN MY GAS GAUGE NOT READING AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMING ON. MASSACHUSETTS WILL NOT PASS FOR INSPECTION A VEHICLE WITH A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON. NISSAN STATED THAT WHILE THE FUEL PUMP IS PART OF THE POWER TRAIN, THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS NOT AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THE FIX WAS TO BE OVER $400 TO THE NISSAN DEALER. AFTER WRITING TO MR GOSHEN, NISSAN NORTH AMERICA PRESIDENT, IT WAS EVENTUALLY COVERED. I HAVE KIDS AND WITH THE GAS GAUGE NOT READING, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY, DESPITE MY BEST ATTEMPTS TO TRACK MILES DRIVEN AND RELATE IT TO THE GAS LEVEL. NISSAN HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN AND KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD FORCE A RECALL AS THOUSANDS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH XTERRAS, PATHFINDERS AND FRONTIERS.
