I feel like my 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL sedan is/was Part of the Transmission Recall. I purchased my vehicle in 2017/2018… Since then I already replaced all the solenoids in 2020 for the transmission and it drove fine for 2 years. Then in October/November of 2023 the transmission code P0776 came on and it was taken to a Nissan dealership in Maine and was informed that the whole transmission was no good and needed to be replaced. I since bought a new Nissan Altima transmission that was never used before so, the transmission has 0 miles on it and had my personal mechanic place it in and now in early 2024 the transmission went from Driving 65mph on the highway and suddenly dropped to 30mph still on highway with no dashboard light notice at all… so now I have a vehicle that is broken and I don’t know what to do next!!! Please advise. I was wondering if my Vin# was one that had the original Recall and was taken care of anlready before I bought it? And if I can get any help with this new transmission that is now no good?

The contact was unable to open the hood to check or add coolant. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the contact was as unaware of the repair performed on the vehicle. The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle started hesitating. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact parked on the side of the street for approximately 10 minutes before continuing driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and had an unknown component tied; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was serviced by the dealer in 2016, for a recall repair for the mass airflow sensor however, the failure recurred. The contact had her nephew replace the mass airflow sensor on three separate occasions. The mass airflow sensor was also replaced once by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that recall repair was only performed one time free of charge. The failure mileage was 108,000.

Car stalled on highway in 1st lane. Car jerking, stalling, not starting. Found recall on cvt transmissions on car. Nissan consumer affairs refuse to honor recall. States recall closed. Car not drivable. Being fixed at Firestone repair. Begged Nissan consumer affairs because of my safety to please fix. Spoke with 2 managers who would not honor closed past campaign!!! Told them I am a 60 yr old woman now to scarred to drive car. Had no choice but to have it fixed which I cannot afford.

I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO BE DIAGNOSED THEY SAID MY VALVE COVER GASKET IS LEAKING OIL IT HAS TO BE REPLACED AND MY COILS AND PLUGS ARE SITTING IN OIL. THE STRONG BURNING SMELL COMES THROUGH MY AIR VENTS. AND WHEN THE OIL HITS THE EXHAUST IT SMOKES. I PRAY IT DOESN'T CATCH ON FIRE.

2 WEEKS BACK I WAS DRIVING AND SUDDENLY CAR SLOWED DOWN. THE RPM WAS VERY HIGH BUT THE SPEED WAS AROUND 20MPH. LOOKED LIKE TRANSMISSION STUCK AT LOWER GEAR. LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 100FT OF UPHILL AND IT COULD NOT TOW. ONLY ONE PERSON AND LOST POWER IN GAS. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESSED THE GAS, THE RPM WAS LOW AND COULD NOT PULL CAR UPHILL. YESTERDAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TODAY MY DEALER SAYS THERE IS PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. SOMETHING INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. RECENTLY LESS THAN YEAR AGO, THEY REPLACED FEW THINGS WHICH WAS UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. NOW I HAVE 63K AND OUT OF WARRANTY. THE TOTAL COST IS ABOUT $1300.00. HOW CAN SUCH A REPUTED BRAND CAR HAVE SO MANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITHIN A YEAR? THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST NISSAN.

I HAD A MECHANIC IN MY CAR NOTICE THIS AND ASK IF I HAD THE TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT AND THAT POSSIBLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION AS HE HAD COME ACROSS THIS ISSUE BEFORE WITH ALTIMAS. I AM CURRENTLY BEING TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY ISSUE BUT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE FALSE AND WANT MY CAR FIXED AS IT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH A MAJOR ISSUE. BUT ON MY WAY TO WORK THE FOLLOWING DAY, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45-50MPH AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE. I CAME TO A BUSY INTERSECTION AND STOPPED WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE IT JUST STOPPED. I TURNED IT OFF TO RESTART, PUT IT IN PARK AND IT STULLED AGAIN. I WAS IN A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION "5 LANES". I HAD TO CALL 911 TO HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC SO THEY COULD PUSH MY CAR OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE ONLY 61000 MILES AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THE CAR. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD IT IS THE CVT. I AM AN ICU/ER NURSE. I BOUGHT A NISSAN DUE TO SAFETY RATINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,808.

THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THEY ARE NOT 100% THAT THIS SOLUTION WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2013 AND PRIOR YEAR MODELS. I WILL ALSO FILE ANOTHER FORMAL COMPLIANT WITH NISSAN AMERICA. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AS IT RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING OTHER THAN THE VIOLENT SHAKING AND SHUDDER IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE CAR SHUTS OFF! VIBRATIONS FELT AT 1500-2000 RPM (ENOUGH TO SHAKE THE DASH COMPONENTS), THEN VIBRATION GOES AWAY. SLIGHT ACCELERATION UNDER LOAD AT 1500-2000 RPM AND AT ANY SPEED (20-30, 40-55, 72 MPH) WILL RESULT IN VIBRATIONS (EVERYTIME). HAD NISSAN SERVICE WRITER RIDE WITH ME, THEN HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE VIBRATIONS. SAID TO RETURN NEXT WEEK JAN 2014 TO FURTHER DOCUMENT. GUESS WHAT, HE SAID THEY HAVEN'T HAD THIS PROBLEM??? HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO NISSAN MANY TIMES OVER THIS PAST YEAR. I NOW BELIEVE THIS VIBRATION IS COMING FROM THE ENG NOT FROM THE CVT SINCE I CAN FEEL THE VIBRATIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED (IN PARK OR IN NEUTRAL). I TOOK POSSESSION OF MY NEW 2013 ALTIMA SV 2.5L 4 CYLINDER ON 11/17/2012. A SHORT TIME LATER I STARTED HEARING A RUMBLING, "LUGGING", SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND FEELING A VIBRATION ON THE GAS PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL, ON LIGHT ACCELERATION FROM A STOP AT AROUND 1500 RPM. ON 12/13/2012 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO MY DEALER AND DROVE AROUND WITH MY SALESMAN AND A SENIOR TECHNICIAN, WHO BOTH STATED THEY HEARD THE RUMBLING NOISE. MY SALESMAN AND I WENT ON A DRIVE ON ANOTHER NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 L SIMILAR TO MY CAR AND NEITHER OF US HEARD THE RUMBLING SOUND MY CAR MAKES. NO WORK WAS PERFORMED DURING THIS VISIT. ON 12/19/2012, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME THE SERVICE DEPT. ORDERED A SERPENTINE BELT AND BELT TENSIONER FOR MY CAR AND INSTALLED A PIECE OF INSULATION ON THE A/C LOW PRESSURE LINE. THE WORK ON THE A/C LINE DID NOT HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE NOISE AND VIBRATION LEVEL. MEANWHILE, I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER AND A "REGIONAL SPECIALIST TO HANDLE MY CASE. ON 12/21/2012, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ON THIS VISIT THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER ON MY CAR WERE REPLACED BY NEW ONES. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE BELT AND TENSIONER SWAP WAS JUST A TEMPORARY SOLUTION. I DID NOTICED A FRACTIONAL DECREASE IN NOISE AND VIBRATION LEVEL AFTER THE SWAP. AS OF TODAY,01/04/2013, THE NOISE AND VIBRATION ARE BACK. ON 7/29/12 A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAID THAT POSSIBLY THE GAS CAP WAS NOT TIGHT. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. MANUAL SAID THAT IF THE LIGHT WAS NOT FLASHING, THEN IT WOULD CLEAR AFTER A FEW TRIPS. IT DID NOT CLEAR, SO I DROVE 25 MILES TO DEALER 8/3/12 FOR THEM TO TEST. THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND WOULD BE REPLACED THE NEXT DAY. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THAT WHEN THEY REMOVED THE CONVERTER THAT ITS CONTENTS SPILLED ON THE SHOP FLOOR; AND THAT THEIR CONTACTS WITH NISSAN WAS THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED ON OTHERS AND THUS THE ENGINE HAD BEEN RUINED AND THAT NISSAN WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE. I STATED THAT I DID NOT WANT A REPLACED ENGINE BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE REQUIRED DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY INVOLVED, ESPECIALLY WITH A CAR ONLY A FEW DAYS OLD AND HAVING DRIVEN ONLY APPROXIMATELY 160 MILES. I HAD PAID FOR A NEW CAR AND WANTED A COMPLETELY NEW CAR AS A REPLACEMENT. I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH NISSAN, BUT SO FAR THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT SAY THAT THEY ARE REVIEWING THE SITUATION. THE SELLING DEALER HAS BEEN VERY COOPERATIVE, SAID THAT THEY AGREE WITH ME AND HAVE STATED THAT THEY HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NISSAN ON MY BEHALF AND REQUESTED THAT A NEW REPLACEMENT BE PROVIDED. SINCE NISSAN HAS SEEN THIS SITUATION ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, THEY WERE AWARE THAT THEY HAD FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND THAT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WAS THE RESULT. THESE ARE NOT CARS WITH SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES USE AND SEVERAL MONTHS OLD; BUT RATHER MINE WAS LESS THAN A WEEK OLD. NISSAN SHOULD NOT GIVE THE BUYING CUSTOMERS THE RUN-A-ROUND, BUT DO THE PROPER THING AND REPLACE THE CARS WITH NEW ONES LIKE WE PAID FOR. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY SOLD QUALITY PRODUCTS AND HAD A REPUTATION FOR GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. *TR
