ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REPLACED DURING SERVICE AT A DEALERSHIP, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) MAY HAVE BEEN INADVERTENTLY DEACTIVATED DUE TO AN ISSUE WITH THE DEALER SERVICE SOFTWARE. IF THE TPMS IS TURNED OFF, IT WOULD NOT ALERT THE DRIVER TO A DECREASE IN THE TIRE PRESSURE AS DESIGNED.
Fix: DEALERS WILL CHECK THE TPMS FUNCTION AND REACTIVATE IT IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

I’m having to replace at least 2 sensors every 6 or 7 months.
I pulled into Regions bank parking lot to use ATM machine and before I could even park my car accelerated for no reason. I had my foot on the brake but it just made it go faster. I crashed into the building and airbag deployed. This was the scariest driving experience I’ve ever had. The car is totaled and caused serious damage to bank. I escaped by the grace of God with sprained wrist and elbow and knee abrasions.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while at a stop light the front passenger's side air bag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger’s side seat cushion sensor had failed. The dealer updated an unknown software; however, the failure reoccurred persistently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger's side seat cushion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
While driving down the highway at about 60 mph the vehicle shut off and has not restarted in almost 2 weeks. There was no indication or warning of any engine trouble prior to it shutting off. Luckily, I was getting off an exit and nobody was injured. Had I NOT been exciting the highway, there would have most certainly been a MULTI vehicle accident with severe injuries and possibly even death because of the high speeds. Once the car was completely stopped and off towards the shoulder I tried to restart but got a fast clicking noise, but wouldn't start. Let the car sit for a little tried to jump start it, but now the key indicator was being displayed which means the car wasn't recognizing the key even in the slot. This leads me to believe the security system/ immobilizer could've been what caused it to shut off. The car has not been looked at yet. Still waiting for Nissan dealer to diagnose it.
MY WIFE'S CAR SHUTDOWN ON HER LAST MONTH AND I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY INDICATED THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD SO I ORDERED A NEW ONE AND THINGS WENT FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND NOW THE FUEL HAND JUST FLUCTUATS UP AND DOWN AND JUST SUDDENLY DROPS TO (E) WHEN IT HAS GAS OR FULL TANK OF GAS IN IT. ALSO THE MILEAGE DISPLAY IS SHOWING INACCURATE READINGS AND BLINKING ON THE DASH ON AND OFF AND MY WIFE IS SCARED NOW TO DRIVE HER 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA ON LONG DRIVES WITH THIS PROBLEM GOING ON!! IT HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION ON A BUSY HWY 278 IN BATESVILLE,MS
ORANGE KEY LIGHT INDICATOR COMES ON AND CAR WILL NOT START UP.
I CAN DRIVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL HOURS THEN AFTER SEVERAL HOURS THE CAR SHUTS DOWN SLOWS DOWN AND THEN CUTS COMPLETELY OFF TRIES TO RESTART THE CAR IT COMPLETELY DIES HAVE TO GET A JUMP START. MY TPMS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW, AND THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THE SYSTEM IS READING ZERO PSI IN ALL TIRES. THEY SAID IT WAS A PART OF THE SYSTEM THAT NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT AND DOESN'T WANT TO ADDRESS IT. SO IF I WANT IT FIXED ITS GONNA COST ME OVER $200. MY WIFE WHO HAS A 2009 MURANO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TPMS LIGHT BEING ON AND READING ZERO PSI IN ALL TIRES.

I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING RECURRING ISSUES INVOLVING THE GAS PEDAL FAILING TO WORK IN MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHETHER ON THE HIGHWAY, AT A STOP SIGN, OR MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY THE GAS PEDAL WILL UNEXPECTEDLY FAIL TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE. I WILL PRESS THE PEDAL WITH ABSOLUTE NO ACCELERATION FROM THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THE SAME CODES APPEAR. THE CODES ARE P0223, P0123, P2135. RESPECTIVELY, EACH CODE MEANS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR FAULT, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR FAULT AND FAILED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE CODES IS TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTIMA'S THROTTLE BODY TWICE AND THE AFTER EACH TIME THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO OCCUR. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS AS WELL. I HAVE ALSO PERFORMED THE THROTTLE BODY RE-LEARN PROCEDURES AS DIRECTED BY NISSAN AND THE ISSUE PERSISTS AS WELL. BOTH MY WIFE AND I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND WE HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS INVOLVING THIS FAULTY ISSUE WITH OUR ALTIMA. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A MAJOR ROAD OR HIGHWAY WHEN ABRUPTLY THE GAS PEDAL FAILS TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NISSAN MUST CORRECT THIS ISSUE. UPON, LOOKING AT THE INTERNET IT SEEMS NUMEROUS CONSUMERS OF NISSAN ALTIMA'S ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ACCELERATION ISSUE WITH THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT THIS FRIDAY WITH NISSAN BUT I AM NOT VERY HOPEFULLY THEY CAN FIX THIS AFFORDABLY WITHOUT CHARGING AN ARM AND A LEG. THIS SEEMS LIKE AN ELECTRICAL OR COMPUTER GLITCH WITH NISSAN ALTIMA(S).
5 YRS AGO THE SOUND OF MY ENGINE CHANGED AND UPON INSPECTION THE WELDING ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED. I WAS INFORMED BY PEMBROKE PINES NISSAN THAT SINCE CAR IS AT 38,500 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY DESPITE IT BEING A MANUFACTURE FAILURE IT WOULD SET ME BACK $975. I DIDN'T HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. FOR THE PAST 3 YRS, MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AND ON EVEN IRREGARDLESS IF SOMEONE IS IN THE SEAT OR NOT. FURTHERMORE, THE RADIO WILL GO BLANK OR HAVE ILLEGIBLE CHARACTERS ON IT. I TOO HAVE THE MELTING DASH ISSUE AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF TIMES I SLIPPED AND MY FINGER NAIL HAS GOUGED OUT PIECES OF DASH BOARD. IT'S AMAZING THAT LEXUS HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON THEIR MELTING DASH BOARD ON THE IS250 & IS350 ISSUES BUT NISSAN COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ITS BRAND OR REPUTATION; I GUESS THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE COMPANY ISN'T WHOLE JAPANESE OWNED.
WHEN AN ADULT IS SETTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WILL PERIODICALLY GO ON. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR YEARS. ST. CHARLES NISSAN TECH FOUND OCCUPANT SENSOR FAILURE TO BE CAUSING THE ISSUE. THERE IS A RECALL INVOLVING THIS ISSUE, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V521000. MY CAR'S VIN IS NOT PART OF THE OPEN RECALL, HOWEVER, SINCE IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE, I WONDERED IF THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. I HAVE NOT BEEN INFORMED AT WHAT VIN THEY STOPPED IN THE RECALL.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO REMOVE THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA NEEDS TO BE RECALLED DUE TO DASHBOARD MELTING. THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND GIVES OFF A GLARE DURING THE DAYTIME WHILE DRIVING. WAS INFORMED BY OUR NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS INOPERABLE AIRBAGS DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE FRONT CRASH ZONE SENSOR. OF COURSE, THIS IS JUST AN ASSUMPTION ON THEIR PART. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR EXPERIENCE ANY IMPACT OF ANY NATURE TO CAUSE THIS SENSOR TO MALFUNCTION. NISSAN DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST, BUT STILL NO CLEAR INDICATION AS TO THERE BEING INOPERABLE AIRBAGS. WAS GIVEN TWO OPTIONS, STARTING WITH ONE OPTION OF REPLACING THE SENSOR IN ITS ENTIRETY AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $525, AND IF THAT DIDN'T WORK, RUNNING ANOTHER DIAG. TEST AT AN ADDITIONAL ESTIMATED COST OF $592. IN AN ATTEMPT FOR SOME ASSISTANCE, A CONSUMER COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ONLY TO BE DENIED ASSISTANCE ON THE COST OF THIS REPAIR. THEIR DECISION WAS BASED SOLELY ON THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT NOT BEING UNDER A WARRANTY. PAYING A $1,000 FOR A "GUESS" IS EXTREMELY STEEP AND UNREASONABLE AND A COST TO WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. DUE TO THEIR FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS, AT 45,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED, TO WHICH NISSAN PICKED UP THE TAB FOR DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS OF THEIR CVT TRANSMISSIONS. BEING PURCHASED AS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE ONLY TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION BEING COMPLETELY REPLACED AT 45,000 MILES SHEDS NEW LIGHT ON THE POOR QUALITY OF NISSAN VEHICLES. AT THIS TIME, NISSAN IS REFUSING TO ASSIST.

THE INTERNET MENTIONS MANY INSTANCES OF SEAT PROBLEMS AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A CAR SEAT CAN BE A PROBLEM, I'VE OWNED MANY CARS AND KNOW MANY FOLKS WHO OWNED MANY CARS AND NEVER EVER HEARD OF A SEAT BEING A PROBLEM EVER. THE DEALER CONVENIENTLY IS GOING TO CHARGE ME TWO (2) DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES OF $89.95 TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE DOOR LOCKS (AGAIN NOT 1 CHARGE FOR BOTH BUT TWO SEPARATE CHARGES). REGARDING 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA: THE AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR DRAIN HOSE IS POORLY ENGINEERED LEADING TO WATER DRAINING BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AS OPPOSED TO OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE WATER WILL POOL IN THE BACK SEAT PASSENGER SIDE AND CONTINUE TO COLLECT WATER UNTIL IT MOVES FORWARD TOWARD THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SIDE. WITHOUT CORRECTING THIS DEFECT THE WATER WILL LEAD TO MOLD/FUNGUS GROWTH, ROTTED CARPET, RUSTED FLOOR WELLS, AND POTENTIALLY ELECTRICAL DAMAGE AS THERE IS A MAIN ELECTRICAL WIRE THAT RUNS ALONG THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR THAT PARALLELS THE EVAPORATOR DRAIN HOSE. *TR

THE PASSENGER SIDE VEHICLE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO FLASH. THE DEALER STATED THE SEAT CUSHION ON THE PASSENGER SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN THEY STATED THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL IN MY SPECIFIC VIN; THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR MY MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE IN 2008. THEY STATED THEY WOULD PAY 40% OF THE COST TO REPLACE SEAT CUSHION; WHICH WOULD RUN UPWARDS OF $800.00. FOLLOWING THE ANNOUNCEMENT I TOOK MY 2008 ALTIMA TO THE DEALER TO ENSURE I WAS PART OF THE RECALL. THE DEALER IS AT 3275 SW 8TH STREET, ,MIAMI,, FLORIDA. AND IS CALLED AUTONATION NISSAN. THE SERVICE AGENT TOTAL ME, AFTER CURSORY RESEARCH IN HIS DATA BASE, THAT WHILE MANY, MANY NISSANS WERE RECALLED IN MY MODEL YEAR AND IN MY CAR GROUP, MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE SWITCH THAT ALLOWS THE CAR TO START AND LIGHTS THE BRAKE LIGHTS IS STICKING, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF. THE CAR NOT STARTING IS ANNOYING, IF THE SWITCH STICKS AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED THEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL FAIL TO ILLUMINATE, THAT IS DANGEROUS. THE CAR FAILS TO START WITH REGULARITY, IF THE SWITCH IS MANIPULATED IT STARTS, I DO NOT KNOW IF THE BREAK LIGHTS ARE FAILING BUT I ASSUME THIS IS OCCURRING. MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS FAILING TO START. PUSH BUTTON IGNITION WOULD ALLOW THE POWER TO TURN ON, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD, RADIO, FANS/COOLING/HEATING, ETC. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE COULD NOT TURN ON. I WOULD REGULARLY FIND THAT THIS WOULD BE AN INTERMITTENT BEHAVIOR. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD START ON THE FIRST TRY - OTHER TIMES IT WOULD TAKE 20, 30, 40 ATTEMPTS (AND LOTS OF FRUSTRATION) TO START FINALLY. I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE DEALER REVIEW THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE EXPERIENCE. FINALLY, AFTER ANOTHER BOUT WITH THE CAR FAILING TO START, I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE-STOP-LAMP-SWITCH, FOR A TOTAL COST OF ABOUT $450. WHILE THIS WAS THE DEALER'S RECOMMENDATION, THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WAS, IN FACT, THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. GREAT, I THOUGHT: LET'S MAKE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT WE'RE UNSURE IS REALLY THE PROBLEM! THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY'RE REPLACING THESE SWITCHES VERY OFTEN: THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE '08 ALTIMA (AND, THEY HINTED, OTHER NISSAN MODELS) AND THEY KEEP THE PART STOCKED ALL THE TIME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM DIES AT 55K MILES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 9/17 AND THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS WAS THE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT ALL 2009 MODELS HAD THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PART EXTENDED TO 6 YEARS/UNLIMITED MILEAGE, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST...BUT ONLY THE 2009 MODELS. I ALSO NOTICED DURING MY RESEARCH THAT MANY INSTANCES OF THIS SAME PART OCCURRING ON 2008 MODELS AS WELL. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AS MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WANT TO KNOW WHY ONLY THE 2009 MODELS ARE INCLUDED? ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE WILL TURN ON (RADIO, POWER WINDOWS, AIR, ETC) BUT THE CAR WILL NOT START. I'VE HAD THE BATTERY TESTED NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT ALWAYS PASSES AS A GOOD BATTERY. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS WHERE OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2008 NISSAN ALTIMAS. FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT, IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH A BRAKE CABLE. WITH AS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT I'VE SEEN ON THIS, HOW COME THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ISSUED? *TR
THIS VEHICLE IS A 2008, NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 45,500 MILES DRIVEN AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN EARLY 2008. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, MY WIFE COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO START. THEN ON NOV. 4, 2011, I WITNESSED THE FAILURE MYSELF. AFTER CONTACTING THE TEXAS AAA MOTOR CLUB AND HAVING THEM COME AND VERIFY THAT THE CAR'S BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED AND COULD RUN THE STARTER, THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION BEING TAKEN. THE CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE REPORT COMPLAINT WAS ENTERED AS: "CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE WILL NOT START AT TIMES". ON THE INVOICE IT STATES "CAUSE: BRAKE LAMP SWITCH FAILED - NOT SENDING SIGNAL TO BCM FOR START".' THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS LISTED AS A "25320-AX00C SWITCH ASM"'. THE COST OF THE SWITCH WAS $39.17 WITH $52.50 LABOR. PRIOR TO REPAIR, I WAS GIVEN THE CHOICE OF THE $91.67 SWITCH INSTALLATION, OR THE INSTALLATION OF A DIFFERENT SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND A REPLACEMENT CABLE HARNESS FOR APPROXIMATELY $250.00. I CHOSE THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH OPTION BECAUSE THE FIRST SWITCH LASTED 45,500 MILES, AND IF THE SECOND SWITCH LASTED THAT MANY MILES, IT WOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED UNTIL AROUND THE 90 OR 95 THOUSAND MILE MARK. *JS
I RECENTLY HAD A SERVICE CALL WITH MY NISSAN DEALER TO FIX A INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUE (PUSH BUTTON START) ON MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT SINCE NISSAN DOES NOT BELIEVE IT WARRANTS A RECALL. IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. GIVEN THAT THIS IS INTERMITTENT THE VEHICLE DOES HAVE THE POSSIBILITY TO START YET LATER NOT HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS FUNCTIONING. WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SWITCH THE ISSUE HAS GONE AWAY. *TR
MY 2008 ALTIMA WITH PUSH BUTTON START HAS FAILED TO START TWICE. ONCE AT 25,000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 50,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER TOOK THE SWITCH APART AND THE CONTACTS WERE PITTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE KEYLESS IGNITION PUSH BUTTON START AND REMOTE KEYLESS FOB FAILED TO OPERATE APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. IN ADDITION, BOTH KEY AND BATTERY WARNING SYMBOLS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED TWO KEY FOB BATTERIES AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETECT A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHICH RESULTED IN NO RESOLUTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
2008 ALTIMA HAS PUSH START BUTTON THAT WON'T WORK AT RANDOM TIMES. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE ASKED ME TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL REAL HARD WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE SENSOR SO THE CAR WOULD START. STILL UNRESOLVED AND I'M UNHAPPY. *TR
WOULD LIKE TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION A DEFECT THAT I BELIEVE NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED IN AT LEAST SOME, IF NOT ALL, OF NISSAN, LATEST ALTIMA VEHICLES. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS LEFT RUNNING AND THE VEHICLE DOORS ARE CLOSED WITH THE REMOTE "KEYLESS". THIS PROBLEM COULD CREATE A SERIOUS SAFETY & HEALTH ISSUE IF A DRIVER FORGETS TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE BEFORE USING THE REMOTE KEY TO CLOSE THE VEHICLE DOORS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V521000 AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL BECAUSE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAG MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE. TO TURN THE CAR ON/OFF IT UTILIZES A PUSH BUTTON RATHER THAN AN ACTUAL KEY. THE OTHER MORNING I DROVE TO WORK AND PARKED IN THE PUBLIC GARAGE @ 8:00 AM. I MUST HAVE FORGOTTEN TO PUSH THE OFF BUTTON BECAUSE WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE THAT EVENING 4:30 PM IT WAS RUNNING AND HAD BURNED 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS. BESIDES FEELING REAL STUPID, I THOUGHT ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN. BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING THE DOORS DID NOT LOCK, THEREFORE THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND UNLOCKED ALL DAY. THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN RANSACKED, STOLEN OR WORSE, IF THIS HAD TAKEN PLACE IN SOMEONE'S HOME GARAGE, OR DRIVEWAY OR ON A STREET, A CHILD COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE VEHICLE, ENGAGED IT IN DRIVE AND CAUSED DAMAGE OR INJURY TO SOMEONE OR PERSONAL PROPERTY. VEHICLES WITH THIS "SMART KEY" TECHNOLOGY SHOULD HAVE A BUILT IN SAFETY/ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM THAT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AFTER 15 MINUTES OF IDLE. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE RUN 8-1/2 HOURS. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED ALL NIGHT AND AT 330 A.M. IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT HAD NEVER BEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THEY PUT OUT THE FIRE. THEY SAID THAT THE ELECTRICAL FUSE BOX CAUGHT ON FIRE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. IT HAS A PUSH BUTTON STAR/STOP SWITCH AND NO KEYS ARE NEEDED. I ACCIDENTALLY LEFT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND PUSHED THE OFF BUTTON AND LEFT THE CAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THEN RESTARTED SOON AFTER. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SOON AFTER. SHE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS FAILED COMPONENT AND THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
FIRST DAY FOR PICK UP, HEADLIGHT POP, FIX IT THE NEXT DAY, TOOK 90 MINUTES JUST TO FIX ONE HEADLIGHT, AFTER 6 WEEKS, CAR TURNS OFF WHEN DRIVING ONE OF THE MOST BUSIEST HWY AND THE STEERING LOCKS; ONLY WAY TO START IT IS BY PUTTING IT TO "PARK" HOLD BRAKES DOWN ALL THE WAY THEN PUSH THE BUTTON AND COMING FROM THAT, IT WAS NOT SAFE AT ALL, DRIVERS WERE HONKING AND SWERVING JUST TO MANEUVER AWAY FROM ME, CALLED DEALERSHIP TO WHERE I PURCHASE CAR TO FIX THE PROBLEM, TOLD THEM THAT THE CAR HAD TURNED OFF 4 TIMES ON THE SAME HWY AND THANK GOD IT TURNED OFF ON A STRAIGHT AWAY NOT WHILE TURNING, SHOWED THEM A VIDEO IN WHICH I INTEND TO HOLD FOR EVIDENCE. DROP IT OFF 7:00AM, DEALERSHIP HAD SAID ABOUT CODES; THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND HAD REPLUG EVERY PLUG THAT WAS ON THE CAR IN WHICH IT WOULD BE RESET, GAVE CAR BACK WITHIN 9 HOURS SAYING THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF AGAIN AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT BACK. AFTER A WEEK AND A HALF, THE CAR HAD TURNED OFF PLUS WITH THE GAUGES(NOT KNOWING THE SPEED I WAS GOING) AND RADIO DISPLAY WENT OUT AND THIS IS WHEN IT WAS RAINING HECTIC AND I WASN'T ABLE TO USE HIGH BEAMS AUTOMATICALLY TO WHERE IT LOCKS FORWARD BUT TO PULL IT TOWARDS ME MANUALLY WHILE DRIVING. ALREADY TOLD DEALERSHIP THAT THIS CAR IS A BIG CONCERN ON THE ROAD FOR SAFETY BECAUSE WHEN IT TURNS OFF I BECOME A CRASHING INCIDENT IN WHICH IF THAT HAPPENS I WILL BLAME NISSAN FOR THAT. *TR
