Your engine consumed oil internally, which caused a rod bearing to fail and destroy the engine. Your wife experienced this while driving on the highway at 70 mph with no warning lights beforehand — she only heard a knocking sound before the engine died and she lost power to the wheels, nearly causing an accident. The dealership confirmed the oil consumption led to bearing failure. Addressing this would require engine replacement or complete engine rebuild with new bearings and gaskets.

Your engine suddenly seized while driving at highway speed (80 MPH) with no warning light to alert you beforehand. The dealer confirmed the engine had seized but did not diagnose or repair the issue. The failure occurred at approximately 180,000 miles. Fixing this will likely require a complete engine replacement or rebuild to restore your vehicle to working condition.

Your oil warning light came on while driving, followed by a thumping sound about 30 seconds later, even though your check engine light didn't activate. You noticed oil leaking heavily from your car in a parking lot and couldn't stop the leak even after adding more oil. The engine may have suffered internal damage and the car needs professional diagnosis to identify the source of the leak and determine if the engine can be safely restarted.

Your engine made an abnormal sound from under the hood while you were driving at about 15 mph, and then the engine stalled without any warning lights appearing. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as seized bearings inside the engine, which would require engine repair or replacement to fix.

Your 2014 Kia Sorento is consuming oil at an unusually high rate even though it's not leaking, and despite extensive repairs to gaskets, filters, O2 sensors, water pump components, spark plugs, and other engine parts. You're also experiencing loss of power during acceleration, particularly when trying to pass other vehicles, which creates a safety concern. The engine shows no diagnostic trouble codes, but multiple parts replacements haven't resolved the issues. A thorough engine inspection or potential engine replacement may be needed to identify the underlying cause.

Your engine makes a clacking or knocking sound when you first start it up, and the noise goes away initially. However, once the engine warms up while you're driving, you hear the clacking sound again. This noise may indicate an engine timing or valve train issue that needs inspection.

Crankshaft position sensors, codes P0018. Car does not get up to speed, knocking and rattling sounds heard. Oil is correct fullness, was changed less than 1,000 miles ago, O2 sensor changed 2 weeks ago, but car continues to have new codes and more issues.
Engine light was on about a week prior to taking it to the dealer for inspection. Was not time yet for an oil change. Had another 1000 miles before next oil change was due. After oil change they found metal shavings in new filter and oil. Told us we need to replace the engine. So we have a defective engine.

I purchased my 2014 kia sorrento 3.3 SX in February of 2016. I was not informed at all about any issues with the engine or that there were any recalls concerning my vehicle. I have email correspondence from the dealership where years following my purchase of any safety recall notices. I had regular oil changes and normal maintenance. In March of 2024 my engine was stalling out and it smelled like burning plastic and wasn't turning over appropriately. I took it to the kia dealership and was told that the recalls had expired and that my vehicle had no oil, the engine was going to seize and I needed a new engine. Again I wasn't told at that time of any safety recall information that could lead to engine failure and or fire. I then took it to another local mechanic and had it diagnosed. I was told that I needed a nee engine that my hand gasket had blown due to premature bearing wear and severe leaks. I brought it home and I was too afraid to drive it. Then in 2025 I received another recall notice. I contacted Kia customer care and was advised that I might ne eligible for a engine rebuild, that I should have it towed to the local dealership for diagnostics to be ran yet again. The kia adviser in the service department said she was filing a claim with kia engineers and that she needed my registration and drivers license. After a week she contacted me saying my claim was denied and that my choices were to pay $13, 000 for an engine replacement or accept a trade in of $500. Again information was withheld from me concerning this vehicles recalls. At this point I am completely dumbfounded as to what to do next. My sorrento was paid off and only had 118,000 miles on it and they refused to cover anything under the 10temr or 150,000 miles extended warranty.

Our 2014 KIA Sorento keeps burning through oil. We were told by the dealership to have an oil combustion chamber cleaning. We had bought the extended warranty and have maintained the recommended maintenance on this vehicle. This is a $700.00 (maintenance not covered by warranty). Come to find out, this cleaning might not solve our engine issue and our vehicle might continue to burn through oil. Or even fail the test, and we are the ones responsible for fixing the problem.
My check engine light came on so I took it to the dealership (10/02/24) and the code was P2190. They did the recall for the 23V652. It was completed and light was off. The light came back on that Thursday evening with the same code. I took it back to the dealership on Friday morning. They kept it over that weekend. It was first the fuel injector but they wasn't sure so decided to keep it and check it again when it was cool. I called Saturday for an update and stated they needed to keep it til Monday. I called on Monday and received a text that I didn't have any oil in the car. Which was not accurate because everything was checked with them on Tuesday and they had the car the entire weekend. They stated they replaced the oil and the engine light was off. They said the car was burning oil and I needed to replace the engine for 10k. None of this made any sense. The light came back on a few days later and I have been checking the oil every day and oil is still in the car. The same code had been displayed for the check engine light. "System too rich at Idle Bank 2". I have not had any problems in this car since I had. I am still checking the oil because I am nervous it will blow up while driving but this is my only transportation. I just wanted you all to look into it before I have to give this car up. Thanks (I paid $180 for a diagnostic with no resolve).
head bolts broke and ran hot,
Check engine light started blinking then a lot of knocking started from the engine. How it won’t stay started and the knocking it’s a lot louder. Someone told me sounds like the engine bearings
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. While approaching a stop, the vehicle shut off. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the engine oil was backing up through the muffler and the vehicle was losing motive power. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the battery, alternator, and starter, and that an oil consumption test was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact removed the battery. The contact noticed that rodents had been chewing on parts in the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

My oil keeps running out. Had this problem for over six months. Took to the dealership but keep getting the run around. They said, it wasn’t a recall for that but it’s been reported that certain vehicles was having this problem.
My Grand daughter' car. May 9th 2024 discovered engine oil is in the engine coolant system. KIA tech says it a blown head gasket or the threads that were machined into bolt holes in the engine block for the head bolts are pulling out. Safety hazard, engine could have failed on interstate or in traffic and posed a threat to driver and others traveling on roadway. No warning of any type.
Engine failure similar to other Kia Engine Class Action Lawsuit
My car started overheating, then started a clicking noise and smoking. Took it to the Jackson, MI KIA dealership. Service Tech said I have a blown head gasket, but KIA discontinued the V6 motor, so I can’t get a new motor. I searched online, found out the V6 motor was discontinued because of this very issue. There was a class action lawsuit/settlement, but it was before I purchased this vehicle. What if anything can be done ? I feel duped. None of the salespeople told me about this issue.

My 2014 kia sorento its knock sound from engine
Kia Dealers has diagnosed that vehicle has had a Catastrophic Engine Failure Was driving and vehicle just died almost got rear ended etc.... due to engine failure never received notices of this engine issue Start reading and it states at any giving time engine can seize At this point Kia dealer give me the round around there is a recall for engine failure it was checked by Kia dealer know no one can give me an straight answer and I need at least a rental vehicle until this gets solve and they don't want to honor that But they were real quick to call me to charge me $205 dollars for full diagnostic of vehicle
Engine failed on the road. Lost acceleration. Had it in dealer for knocking and loss of acceleration but found nothing. Dealer said drive until failure or warning lights. One Week later it failed on the freeway. Now dealer says blow bearing bolt/rod and engine will be $16,000 to replace. We have only ever serviced this car at Dealers and bought it new. Dealer says Engine is not covered but read this is a KNOWN issue with the engines.
While driving on the highway, I noticed my temperature gauge went all the way to hot, but then it went back to the middle. It did this 2 or 3 times before I reached my destination. On the way home, it did this, again. Except, the gauge went up to hot and stayed there when I was about 3 miles from home. Once the engine cooked, I checked for coolant and realized it was empty - as was my oil (even though I had an oil change in October). I refilled the oil and coolant only to have the coolant run out from the bottom of the engine. I took the car to a radiator repair shop and was told the from head gasket had blown. He said I would need a new engine. A second opinion yielded the same answer. The engine light never came on and the car never overheated. The car has approximately 116,000 miles.
The contact’s girlfriend owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the engine overheated. The contact pulled over and checked the vehicle. The coolant reservoir was low on coolant, the engine oil level was low, and there were metal shavings in the oil. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,842.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that his wife was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated. The driver was able to coast the vehicle off the highway. The driver attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that there was no oil in the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
My car shows that it is running hot but there is no leaks. I took my car to the mechanic and changed the radiator and the thermostat thinking that was the problem get my car back and my car is still running hot so I take it back to the mechanic and he inspects my engine again and that's when he tells me that the screws in my engine are not tight like they are supposed to be and that at some point there was a recall for my car due to the engine over heating I tried calling kia and they weren't any help
The kia Sorento has been very well serviced and maintained. On 3/8/24 while driving on the hwy the temperature began to rise. The vehicle was immediately pulled over and shut down. After letting the vehicle sit for approximately an hour to let engine cool my mechanic arrived and inspected it and found metal shavings in the oil and vehicle was started after inspection it is knocking. I've gone online to your website ran the VIN number and it says that this particular vehicle has no recall but this exact year model Sorento has had two different recalls on the same engine that I have in this vehicle for exactly what my vehicle just did. My vehicle only has 78,000 miles on it and I have all service records for it. I'm wanting to know why the other engines of the exact same year make model were recalled for exactly what my engine just did and this one wasn't the vehicle is long at a warranty and a used engine for this vehicle cost almost $4,000 I truly believe that this engine is defective just as the others were for there's no reason for this engine to do what it did with the service and maintenance that I maintain on the vehicle with only 78,000 miles. Any information or help you can give me for this inquiry would be greatly appreciated thank you for all you do.
This is regarding recall #23V652.The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall since 09/25/2023 in a timely manner. This put myself and family member at risks everytime we operate the vehicle. KIA advised us to park it afar to avoid fire hazard. However, my car has already been broken in once so I am too traumatized to park it far away from my house. This is a serious safety concern that should be promptly addressed.
Engine lost power. Analysis indicates the catalytic converters failed and need replacement. The engine and catalytic converters were replaced June 2022. This power loss occurred on major interstate, which could have resulted in death or serious injury. Defective products still being used. Per the dealer, the replaced parts have a warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles. They know these issues exist and persist, putting lives at risk. We did have an engine light come on a few moments before the engine failed.
My car was at Kia for a key fob issue. A day later the engine started ticking. I’m told I need a new engine. My car had no issues. I want to know if it can be related to this recall or if my car should’ve been recalled for the 2017 engine recall sc147. I am not convinced that they didn’t cause this when they had it as it started the next day it was driven. They will not take responsibility for it of course.
Engine died with no sign. Was told engine had no oil

The engine randomly around 45,000 miles started using large amount of oil. The engine started ticking. It is available for inspection, upon request. The safety of myself and others is put at risk as the engine is a ticking time bomb to blow up. When it first starts happening, you do not notice, as you get regular oil changes at the dealership and they never once say that your oil was dangerously low when you brought it in. The problem has been expressed to me by independent service shops as a gdi issue. I called the dealership and they said the only thing they can do is an oil consumption test for $600. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. There are no warnings lamps that come up at all, not for low oil or anything.
Car timing failed on the 3.3 and stalled car in the road. This is a very common problem and these need to be fixed. These cars randomly jump timing with no warning what so ever. Kia knew these were an issue and should replace the engine in my car along with everyone else that has this issue. Car is at a shop now with a confirmed jumped timing.
Engine seized again after the last recall and engine replacement leaving me stranded in an intersection and $416 in towing expenses transported to the mechanic and back home when told engine is seized
I have a 2014 Kia Sorento with a 3.3l engine. There was a catastrophic blow of the head gasket that resulted in engine temperatures spiking while driving on the interstate. This led to excessive deceleration and stopping on the side of the interstate. After researching, this is an ongoing problem with this vehicle. It even has a nickname, "Soft Block", from KIA using substandard materials to build their engines. I submitted a complaint against Kia through the NHTSA website on November 10th. Since that time, I have come to realize that Kia has issued a warranty extension for 2016-2017 Kia Sorento's with the 3.3l Lambda engine for cooling leaking and head gasket issues. What would be the process for expanding your open investigation (NHTSA Action Number: PE23019) to include the 2014 and 2015 model years of the Kia Sorento with the 3.3l engine? This is the exact same engine, and these exact same issues are prevalent in these years as well.
ENGINE FIRE, NO WARNING, VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE AND OFF WHEN IT CAUGHT FIRE

The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was an internal engine failure, connecting rod damage, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Engine continues to leak oil. Cannot be driven. 2014 Kia Sorento SUV which is under recall for engine fires yet they state her particular vin is not under the recall.
The engine on my 2014 Kia Sorento has failed. I brought the vehicle in to Bob Sight Kia to have them diagnose the problem. They claimed that when they drained the oil, they only found 3/4 of a quart of oil and for that reason, Kia was denying the claim for a new engine. I find it hard to believe that there was only 3/4 of a quart of oil in the car as we conducted regular maintenance on the vehicle and provided all service records. When I contacted Kia, they stated that they had not received any documentation from Bob Sight Kia, and specifically no technical details why the engine had failed, or provide an estimate for repair costs. In the last three weeks that our Sorento has been at Bob Sight Kia (brought to dealer on 9-9-23), when I call to speak with the service center point of contact, I get his voicemail or someone says he is away from his desk or on leave and nobody responds to my voicemails or emails, even though I have volunteered to provide more information if necessary. There is a Facebook page with 976 followers stating why Kia has denied their claims for replacement of failed defective engines. Fortunately, in my case, I was able to drive the car to the dealership before the engine stopped working but in many cases the engines failed while people were in busy traffic, exposing them to dangerous situations. In my case specifically the engine light started flashing and the vehicle was being very sluggish, struggled to make it up hills and would occasionally stall.
Engine was replaced in 2021 due to oil consumption issues. After copays and having a rental car for 2 months while waiting for repairs I shelled out about 7k. Now catalytic converter has failed, about one week after last oil change. Extended coverage is just over by mileage according to dealership and unsure if Kia will cover, awaiting response. After researching this issue with my vehicle, I found other owners who had the same issue and suggested it should have been replaced with engine as there was a past recall for this. Others stated that Kia is not covering even though there was a recall. Even if they covered the parts that would help substantially. Car currently at service center at Kia dealership awaiting to see if Kia will assist at good will or cover under the recall.
After work, a severe dust storm hit. I drove to the grocery store and then home (30 miles) in the dust storm. The next morning, as I was driving to work, I heard a weird knocking noise, but no engine lights came on. My car would not start during my lunch break, nor when I got off work. My boyfriend tried to jump it off. When that didn’t work, we traded the battery out since it was still under warranty. That did not work. We went back the next day and checked my oil levels and other fluids - all were good. My boyfriend then hooked up his small code reader which didn’t read any problems. The next day my mom started the car by putting the spare key up to the start button. She took it to Gene Messer Kia about 5 miles away. She said no engine lights came on, but the engine was knocking. Once she turned it off the mechanics were not able to start the car again. They looked over it and said they could not find any reason for my engine to have died. I asked them if it could have been the dust storm. They said no; the engine was well sealed, block was not cracked, oil levels were good, etc. They quoted me $11,521 for a new engine. However, I did not want to pay that because my car was only worth $5,500-7,000 (trade-in verse private sale) according to Kelly Blue Book. I called my insurance and had an inspector come look at it hoping he would be able to say the storm caused the issue and total my car so I could pay off my loan. However, they also could not find a cause for what happened to my engine. We sold it to Peddle.com.
Car recently hit 103,000 miles and was taken in for its scheduled oil change. Mechanic discovered that only a single quart of oil was left in the engine during the oil change despite regular maintenance. Metal flakes were found in the oil that was removed which points to a similar recall with the engine bearings identified in 2017. However, the VIN of this vehicle is not showing up in the recall list. Mechanic is recommending the engine be replaced in the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that after an oil change and driving approximately 1,200 miles, there was no oil in the engine. The contact stated that there was no visible oil leak. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
iT APPEARS MY CAR IS BURNING OIL, THERE IS NO LEAKAGE. I KEEP OIL CHANGES ON A REGULAR BASIS AND NOW CHECKING OIL LEVELS DAILY. IT IS USING 1-1.5 QTS EVERY 2 WEEKS. THIS PROBLEM WAS FOUND WITH LAST OIL CHANGE. MY CAR NOW SEEMS TO SEIZE WHEN TAKING OFF INCONSISTENTLY. I DON'T KNOW IF TWO PROBLEMS ARE CONNECTED. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON. I CONTACTED CARTOWN KIA ABOUT 3 TIMES BY PHONE, LEAVING MESSAGES, AND ONLINE BUT NO RESPONSE.
My son was driving the vehicle and was luckily stopped in traffic at a stop light. All of a sudden the RPM's dropped and the engine shut off. The car would not start and had to be pushed to the side of the road in heavy traffic. While waiting for a tow truck, we noticed the engine oil was completely dry. There had been no warning such as oil lights, engine lights, burning oil smells or leaking oil. The oil had just disappeared without warning. After the vehicle was towed to the local KIA dealer, we were told that the engine had seized. This vehicle has been maintained consistently since the day it was bought brand new. We have records from all maintenance that has been done on this vehicle. The local dealer told us it would cost $11,000 to replace the engine. Unfortunately, that was an expense that we could not afford so the car sits in non working order.
Engine seized. No check engine lights on. Was driving and it made an awful noise and that was it. We have not drove it since. Took it to our local auto mechanic he refused to touch it. Told us it needed a new engine. We are an hour and half a way from a kia dealership. We can't afford to have ot towed that far. I am making payments on a car that i can not drive. I have called kia many times to see what to do. They said to have it towed to a dealership. We live on a limited income. I keep checking to see if my car is on the recall list it is not but should be. It has done what all the other engines that have been recalled have done.
Kia Corporate Complaint No. [XXX] We bought a used but Kia certified 2014 Kia Sorento with 29K mileage in Jul 2017. Ran great but check engine light came on 3 times. Well before 100K mileage, we took it to dealer service department and we’re advised it was an ‘electrical problem’ that reported a false code. Each time the check engine light was reset. Car ran great except for the false trouble lights. We were told that if the light did not blink, not really a problem. At 120K mileage, we got a code and took car to local garage. Mechanic changed 6 plugs but advised that No. 6 coil may need to be replaced. At 122K miles, 3 weeks ago, we got a solid check engine light but with a serious female voice and pop up screen advising we get to Kia dealer. This time code was run by our local mechanic for clogged catalytic converter. We drove to Kia dealer and they ran code for fouled fuel injector for cost of $1,000. We left car parked at dealer and called Kia USA Corporate in CA. We got a complaint number with assurance Kia would contact us. Nothing in 3 weeks. Local dealer says no recalls of V6 engine but we see reports on line of a known fire problem. We fear driving car should the catalytic converter catch fire. Help! The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the contact heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, and the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and was only able to accelerate to 30 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC code: P1326. After investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,800.
UNKNOWN. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT I COULD NOT. TRIED TO JUMPSTART BUT STILL WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS. RECALL #SC 147.
Knocking Sensor Detection. Loud knocking noise associated with flashing check engine light.
On 5/8/2023 I was driving on the freeway going about 70 to 75 MPH. All of a sudden the car stopped accelerating and the engine just stopped working. I costed somehow to the side of the freeway until a tow truck could arrive. There was no warning, until this happened. Car was running perfect up to this point. By the grace of God, I wasn't hit and no one was hurt. I honestly thought I was going to die and or take others with me. There was quite a bit of traffic and everyone had to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting me. This is a 2014 Kia Sorento that has been well cared for with 140K miles. Now I have no car. Being told I need a new engine that could cost up to $ 10K. This car is not worth that much.
The contact’s son owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while his son was driving 65 MPH, the vehicle shuddered, and the engine seized. The check engine and the low oil pressure warning lights were illuminated. The contact’s son was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 91,089.
In December of 2020 my vehicle stalled in the middle of turning. I lost all power and was not able to accelerate. After a tow to my mechanic no reason could be found and vehicle started and ran fine. No check engine or codes displayed. Then in July of 2021 same issue happened. I again had it towed to my mechanic who said it could be the timing but referred me over to my local dealership. At the dealership I was told it was the timing and spent over $4,000 to replace. Two days after picking my vehicle up there was oil all over my garage. Another trip to the dealer where they stated it was a faulty crankshaft seal and no big deal. A month later and I was still having issues. Prior to the work done by KIA I never had oil consumption issues. I was then told to do a combustion clean out which I did. Since then I have been dumping oil into the vehicle. fast forward to April of 2023. While on the interstate the vehicle began to shake and lost all power. After a very expensive tow home and to the dealer the diagnosis was engine failure that they are unable to tell from where specifically and again no check engine or codes displayed. I was quoted $10,000 for an engine replacement for a vehicle I still owed 4,500 on and is not worth as much as the engine
The engine seized up. The issue may be due to a design problem with all Kia engines. Here's what the service technician at the Kia dealership told me: 1) There is a pin on the cam shaft that keeps it in place; 2) Over time it moves, and gets sheared off; 3) When the pin is sheared off, the cam shaft spins out of time; 4) That causes the valves to slam into the pistons and bends the valves; 5) After the valves are bent, the engine has no compression; 6) The engine needs to be replaced or the car needs to be junked. The service tech says he had seen it happen quite a bit with all Kia models. In other words, it's a design flaw. There are other ways to keep the cam shaft in place, which are used by other manufacturers.
Was driving my kia sorrento and check engine light came car was acting as if it wasn't getting any gas took to autozone came bk with 2 codes and pulled out and my car basically powered down in the middle of the street a car almost ran into me...the police had to push my car down a waze so no one would hit me , my car won't start..battery was at good percentage...took it to the shop replaced starter and still nothing won't start..they figured out testing that engine was done for
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. While accelerating, the knocking sound became louder. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was informed that the engine might have seized. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no additional assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently, and then failed to respond with the accelerator pedal depressed. The contact veered to the side of the road, and the engine started shaking and knocking. Additionally, the check engine and oil level warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was unable to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crank shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the knocking sound persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
While I was driving on the highway, my engine suffered a catastrophic failure without any warning. Luckily I was close enough to an exit so I was able to pull off to safety. When I stopped, fluids gushed out of the engine compartment and there was white smoke everywhere. One of the hoses to the engine had completely ruptured. I had the vehicle towed and have had it looked at by three different mechanics who came to the same conclusion - that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced, but they couldn't figure out what caused the failure.
The car has 107,000 miles on it, and has recently started making a strange noise and it died on 2 separate occasions. I took it to a mechanic, who thought it might need a new engine. I did a little online research and all of these engine problems for Kia Sorento's popped up. I took it to a Kia dealership, to get their view on it. They confirmed it needs a new engine, but that they don't know why. I have changed the oil regularly, and maintained the vehicle properly and I don't know how a car with that few of miles on it can need a new engine, without having an underlying issue.
Engine stalling. While driving to work about 45 minutes away my 2014 Kia Sorento stalled at a light. I put it in park, and it started right up. Coming home from work it stalled again after coming off the bridge in my town along with the check engine light on. Tried to start it and it would start and then stall and was idling really rough. Had it towed to my mechanic he said it was the VVT sensor according to the codes and that I had very little oil. My oil light would also come on way before the time to have the oil changed. He did an oil change and fixed the sensor $140.00 later after picking it up it stalled again on me 6 times. Left it at the mechanic again. $191.00 same codes told me the sensors in the engine had a lot of metal on them. They cleaned the sensors the drove my car for 20 miles no issues. Took my car to work the next day again 45 minutes away from home and it stalled again in the middle of the highway. Had it towed back to the mechanic which cost me $245.00 because with AAA I was already over the allowed miles and tows. If this car needs a new engine, I am not replacing it. Never again buying a Kia!! When I first bought the car a few years later I had received a recall notice about the engine and supposedly the dealership fixed the issue. I really don't think they did anything. Needless to say, I have already spent $450.00 on this car in a matter of 2 weeks. Let's see how much this last repair will be because it will be the last time I fix it. I will not be replacing the engine on this car. I can't afford that or to buy a new car at this time.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that an unknown fractured part failed; however, the contact stated that the diagnoses was incomplete. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
The oil light started to turn on and I still had 2000 miles to go to my next oil change. When we checked, we had no oil in the pan and had to add our own oil. I went to Kia Willowbrook dealership to file a complaint and get my oil changed. I was told that Kia will not do anything for oil consumption or engine replacement unless the engine seizes or stops working. This is telling me that I need to wait until my family is injured in a car accident when my car fails or my car starts on fire in order for Kia to do anything. I was also told, that I will need to get oil changes more frequently. That is the workaround. When I asked if an oil consumption test can be done, I was told that it will not help. This car is a safety risk to myself, my family and the public on the road if this is the advice I am getting from Kia.
I'm still having problems with the engine after replacing it. Have had 1 fender bender, which cost me a lot of money. When it was replaced, I don't believe Kia paid for towing or car rental nor fix the other recall with the brakes. I also get a shock nearly every time I get out of the vehicle. Now facing the problem again after the engine replaced will now be the 3rd time my car needs repair due to engine. HELP!!!
On Saturday, January 21st my Sorento started to make a strange noise. On Sunday, January 22 my check engine light came on. I took my vehicle to my normal mechanic first thing Monday, January 23rd morning. He said the check engine light was on because I needed an oil change. My most recent oil change was just over 3,000 miles ago using synthetic oil. When they performed the oil change they found that there was only a half a quart of oil in the vehicle. My mechanic made me aware of issues that Kia has been having with over consumption of oil and told me to contact the Kia dealership. My Kia ran normally the duration of Monday. Tuesday, January 24th when i went to take my kids to school the vehicle went into limp mode and would not go over 20mph. The Kia dealership is taking no ownership of the issue regarding the over consumption of oil due to the GDI engines. Something needs to be done for all of the people suffering financial hardship due to engine failure not To mention being without a vehicle for an undetermined amount of time.

Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the front of his residence with the assistance of her husband. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000. The contact stated that other 2014 Kia Sorento vehicles are included in the recall for faulty engines but for some reason their vehicle does not apply.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the thermostat was replaced twice; however, the failure recurred. The contact related the failure to TSB: SC147. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. As I was driving vehicle suddenly started knocking and came to a hault. Battery was completely dead and I was no longer able to restart. Repair shop has confirmed engine is no good. My vehicle only has 81,000 miles no understanding how my engine has seized when I have had frequently oil changes. I'm am very frustated.
I dropped my daughter off school, upon leaving and heading toward the freeway, I was unable to accelerate past 20mph, had a vehicle behind me almost hit me and my child because I lost forward acceleration and was unaware and could only use my hazards to signify that something was wrong and I wouldn't be able to make it up the hill. I then turned the vehicle off when I reached a safe place to pull over. Let it sit for 5 min, as this happened last year and was informed it was the throttle body, which was replaced. Upon turning vehicle back on, all seemed well, I drove toward the freeway again amd within 3 minutes the check engine light turned on and I lost power again. Was unable to drive more than 20mph We recently dealt with this exact issue with our 2013 kia Optima and it was due to a recall and they replaced the engine as it was malfunctioning.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,461.
Car has around 90,000 miles and is consuming excessive oil. Original Mechanic ran diagnostics and notes that the gaskets are deteriorating and metal shavings are present in the engine, which could cause it to seize. Check engine light has been on, and an error message from the auto diagnostic system came on saying there might be an engine problem. Car is now at the dealer.

I have had a lot of issues with my engine. Took it to different shops had crankshaft position sensor changed, coil packs and spark plugs changed several times in consecutive intervals trying to sort out the issues. Multiple diagnosis fees, and am still having issues. Kia said the can’t help me until the code P1326 comes up.

While over taking a tractor the engine looses power with most dash lights going on, I pull over and turn the car off, and finally the car would not start.
Car infotainment center reported a possible engine condition, the next day we brought into dealership fir a full diagnostic of engine, they said it was just low on fluids, after filling up with fluids we left. The next morning, engine seized in middle of road.
My check engine light is still on after having my thermostat and gasket replaced for the engine cooling system. My mechanic looked up the information online and saw that there is a recall for this issue for 2014 Kia Sorentos. When I called my local dealership they said the recall does not cover my VIN number. It would seem that recall reference # 17V224000 needs to be extended. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a knocking noise was present coming from the engine compartment with the check engine warning light illuminated. Upon inspection it was discovered that the engine oil level was extremely low; however, no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed an oil consumption test and diagnosed that the engine rod bearing, and cylinders were faulty causing permanent damage to the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated 35 MPH the contact heard knocking noising from the vehicle, the contact felt an explosion coming from under the vehicle and a black cloud came from under the vehicle and no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and examined the vehicle and saw apart of piston coming out the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and they stated that the vehicle needed a new engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated that the vehicle was not under the recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The failure mileage 111,000.
On 2/4/2022 a member of my family was driving the vehicle and the vehicle started making knocking sounds without any warming lights so the car was immediately pulled over. The car was then towed to Homestead auto in Eagan, MN and they told us that the oil pressure switch failed and all of the oil drained out of the car and the engine needed to be replaced. The Kia dealership in Bloomington MN was contacted via phone and they did not have an engine and would not be able to get one for 2-3 months. I then called other auto part and repair places to find an engine and a reasonable bid for the service to replace the engine. The engine was replaced on 2/25/22 by ATR Repair. In April we received a letter from Kia stating that Kia was extending the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage for repairs that may be necessary to address an Oil Pressure Switch leak in 2014-2018 MY Sorento vehicles from 5 years/60,000 miles to 15 years/150,000 miles. We then submitted all of the invoices, inspection notes form the Kia dealership in Inver Grove Heights, and credit card statements proving payment to Kia with a claim request for reimbursement for the engine replacement in the amount of $8,519. The request was denied in August. Not only is the situation of the oil draining out of the car without warning extremely dangerous, the financial impact to our family is also significant and unjust.
Driving through town on the way to take my daughter to school, the car suddenly lost power without warning. The engine seized and the car would no longer accelerate. There were no warning lights on the dash. The engine light came on after I was able to pull the car into a parking lot.
My Kia Sorento while parked in front of house caught fire and burned, Total loss.
Use’s oil one quart every 1000 miles or less. 124.000 miles no smoke or leaks. Kia knows about it but no recall.
We have 2014 Kia Sorento SLX V6 GDI with 110,000 miles. My daughter was driving and suddenly, the engine started to-make some noise and the Kia broke down and stopped in the middle of a busy highway. She was able to coast to the side of the road and the engined died. The engine starts but there is many clicking noises inside the engine. My mechanic says the engine failed and the car needs a new engine. I asked the Kia NJ dealer and they said the recall is only for the 4 cylinders, and that my car is not covered. The dealer said they'll fix it for $7,000. What a scam!! As I read all the complaints, our Kia V6 engine had that same issues everyone is complaining about. There are many complains with the V6 engine around 100k miles, not just the 4 cylinder. Why didnt the settlement include ALL engines that fail for the same reason, bad manufacturing. What can we do have Kia take this issue seriously? How can I force Kia to replace the bad engines? What can I do ??
Was driving down the road and my car started to make a weird nise then just shut off. Was ot able to get it to run after.
My son was driving, heard a knocking noise. The engine ceased and he lost steering. Luckily he avoided an accident. A recall is out on 2014 Kia Sorento with 2.4L engines. My car is a 3.3L DOHC 24v. No recall but plenty of complaints. My mechanic told me I need a new engine. i left a message with Battleground Kia last week with no response. The engine and power steering lights were on after the incident
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine emitted abnormal rattling sounds. The contact noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated upon verifying the engine oil level, he noticed that it was significantly low. The contact refilled oil in the vehicle. However, the oil level was significantly lower two days later. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. However, the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle was overheating. The contact an independent mechanic diagnosed that oil was leaking through the engine and out of the exhaust pipe. The contact diagnosed that the failure was associated to Kia Technical Service Bulletin Number: SC147. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The contact's wife owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while his wife was at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled upon the depression of the accelerator pedal with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that an abnormal knocking sound was coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that his wife and daughter were able to push the vehicle into an abandoned parking lot and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it remained in their possession unrepaired. The contact notified the manufacturer and was informed that the recall would not be honored. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the oil warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that 3 quarts of oil needed to be added every 500 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
Total engine failed at 105000 miles. Rod Bearing Failure is what was the diagnosis. We were complaining since 38000 miles of the engine not sounding right and each time a technician certified by Kia told us that nothing was wrong. It seized up while after a brief stop on the side of a road. Kid and wife were in the car and were able to coast it back to the side of the road out of traffic. Total engine replacement is required and this same type of issue is on the 4 cylinder model of this engine that has been recalled, but not 6 cylinder model.
wasnt notified about recall of hecu til 3 days ago.had Engine replaced due to recall.now my catalytic converters are shot and they want me to pay for them .with all the recalls on parts it was there stuff that caused problems
This vehicle has a GDI motor which causes the oil to burn.
1.engine top end knock worn components , oil consumption , loss of power , dies at idle , it is available for inspection the issue is being inspected by an independent service center. no warning icons were present at failure or prior to failure, all fluids were at operating levels. unit had to be retrieved and towed 90 miles to repair facility. 2. brake lights intermittent bulbs have been replaced multiple times sockets are scorched unit has been to dealer multiple times for this issue without lasting resolution.
My wife started to drive the car to lunch and it began to hesitate, jump and lurch. Inspection by a licensed mechanic revealed that the connecting rod in cylinder four came apart and the piston cracked the engine block. This is the same 3.3L V6 engine that Kia has numerous recalls on, affecting over 600,000 vehicles. Although our particular VIN is not listed, I feel this is related to the problems associated with this engine.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The failure nearly caused a collision. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The contact owned a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a fuel odor was present inside the cabin. Days later while the vehicle was parked with the engine idling smoke and flames were present coming from the engine compartment. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. During the incident, the vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the failure was not determined. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact indicated the vehicle was previously serviced under a recall in which the engine was replaced. No further information was available. The failure mileage was 124,000.
Driving around 55mph motor locked up pulled over to side of road motor would not turn over
We purchased the 2014 kia sorento from a private party on May 12, 2022 and had driven it less than an hour on the highway with the cruise control set when a chirping sound came from the engine, followed by a sound like that of a tiny machine gun and then a big BOOM that shook the entire car. The person following me lost sight of the car because of the huge cloud of amoke making visibility impossible and we almost caused an accident. I do not know if the engine had been replaced as part of the recall but we paid $7500 for the vehicle we drove less than an hour and narrowly missed causing an accident.
Kia Sorento SX Limited 2014 All maintenance done on time/early at Kia dealerships throughout history of ownership. Engine light came on with odd sounds. Took in immediately for repair to the Kia dealership. We have been informed that oil is leaking throughout engine system and cooling system which has also put wear and damage on the transmission. This causes a safety issue because it could cause a fire when driving. Upon further review many of the 2014 Sorentos have had this same issue with low mileage and have ended up catching fire. There was no warning or signs of anything going wrong it just happened. The light and sounds started the next day it was taken in and there was nothing we could do. We are having to sell the vehicle for parts so we can get a new vehicle. Service report is available.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed him of an unknown module that needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
Although no warning light, we heard a slight knock with the engine over the course of a couple days, intermittently. Called the dealer to schedule appointment. Very next day knocking significantly louder and undriveable, so had towed. Engine now needs to be replaced at 135,000 miles. Not covering because oil changes done outside of dealership.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while his wife was driving and had come to a complete stop, the vehicle stalled upon depression of the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. His wife was able to restart the vehicle and pull off to the side of the roadway. The contact was called to the scene, where he was unable to restart the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed; the claim was later denied. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
I purchased a 2014 Kia Sorento on March 15, 2022. On April 1, 2022, after 2 weeks of normal driving, I was driving the car to the Kia dealership for them to inspect the smell of gasoline fumes, and suddenly, the oil light and engine light turned on, so I pulled over. I saw smoke coming out of the engine so I ran out. Then flames appeared and engulfed the vehicle while I waited for firefighters to arrive. Luckily, no one was hurt. Insurance is currently investigating the cause.
104K miles and motor seized up. Engine oil is fine, all fluids and proper maintenance done. Motor begins ticking as soon as the car is put in drive. Per mechanic the motor is getting ready to blow. I expected more from this vehicle as it has been very properly maintained. No fluids leaked, just lost power and started the moaning and clicking noise.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the engine bearing needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. Consumer was unable to find a dealership to evaluate my engine and determine the source of failure. They have so many KIAs to assess and they have all said they are taking no more vehicles. Consumer did receive a limited warranty extension letter (on 7April22) to 150,000 miles for the oil pressure switch leaking. Vehicle has been losing oil for quite a while now.
Engine issues like all the others reported but they state no issues per my vin which the issue so am having is the same as all those other engine issues of same make and years
03/23/2022 11:06:18 3/23 Yes, I still have concerns and I have told Kia numerous times to email or text me but instead they conveniently call while I'm at work 7am-4pm so I can't answer the phone. Due to the continuous oil burning issue that Kia refuses to fix or address eventhough I have agreed to pay, the mechanic now says there's a knock sensor issue which makes it unsafe to drive. I have reached out to Kia for months now, with still no resolution in sight.. If this case is above your pay grade or administrative power, please direct my case to someone who can assist in a speedy and competent manner. A very disappointed customer. 03/15/2022 12:24:02 3/14, 5th message- car needed to be taken to Goodyear due the following:This is the recall (see attachment) that hasn't been fixed on my Kia Sorento yet which can cause other issues - knock sensor such as the ones (stalling) 3/13. 03/13/2022 18:03:52 4th message 3/13/2022 Interesting never received a Thursday or second call from rep Ronee as promised in a previous email. My senior citizen 2 time cancer survivor mom attempted to drive my car to return it to me in Vegas when an hour out of Tucson it stalled as oil light came on. Previously Royal Kia had promised to put extra oil in car so if this happened again, oil could be put in, no oil was in car. Everyone associated with Kia in this case has consistently been inconsistent not fulfilling promises made, plus me and my family just continued to be in convenience by Kia. Demanding a 1000 mileage a month oil consumption test during a pandemic when I work in North Vegas before service is ridulous, unrealistic, and unsafe. Transparency and assistance would be appreciated, but due to Kia's prior action and incompetence, I'm not hopeful. When calling, usually businesses leave a voice-mail, I have no such record from you. Not a satisfied customer. Pics of docs at https://photos.app.goo.gl/YauPabwvPoXzs7z87
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while stopping at a red light the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
While pulling into my driveway, my car completely died. Shut off and steering wheel stiffened. Was able to restart it and it presented a check engine light and a knocking noise. Took it to Kia dealership and was told the engine needed to be replaced. I was quoted $15,000 for a new engine/9,000 for used. This repair is not covered in the Kia engine settlement. Vehicle is up to date on maintenance and have proof of prior maintenance. Car was brought into a mechanic within days of the knocking noise and check engine light and now it is not drive-able for fear of engine fire or explosion.
For several months I have been adding 1 quart of oil to my 2014 sorento bi-weekly there is no evidence of an external leak, residue or smoke coming out exhaust. When I don’t add the oil the car stalls, shutters and makes sound during acceleration. I have taken in to dealership but they could not see any issues.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle overheated without warning. The contact added coolant. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer Nationwide KIA (1600 York Rd, Lutherville-Timonium, MD 21093, (410) 561-9000) where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact sent an email to the manufacturer however, they failed to respond. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving in the city at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove home. The contact then drove the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the engine block had cracked which resulted in engine failure. The contact stated that prior to the failure, she had maintained pristine care of the vehicle. Additionally, a month prior to the failure, the same dealer informed her that the engine was in great shape after a routine oil change. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 144,688.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 40 - 50 MPH, the vehicle decelerated inadvertently and was shaking. The vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with an engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
When starting up the vehicle it has a cold start & the cold start can last longer then the vehicle warming up. You can hear the engine components inside while it’s warming up. After staring it up it seems like there is no oil in the vehicle, which it eats oil up which is uncommon
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, a knocking noise was present coming from the engine and the engine experienced excessive oil consumption. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure and an oil consumption test was performed but no failure was identified. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Engine seized on the PA turnpike leaving my daughter stranded. Dealer repair costs 19k to replace an engine. Apparently there is a defect that causes a bearing to fail causing major engine damage. There apparently was a class action lawsuit that was settled for the r act problem that I have but just not for my motor. My motor was last serviced by a Kia dealer.
While driving car at normal speeds under normal conditions, ball bearing and connecting rod blew through engine creating a large hole in bottom of engine block, thus, causing entire engine to be blown. There is only 139k miles on vehicle. There is a safety recall for this very reaon on CERTAIN 2014 Kia Sorrentos. That recall is 17V224000. Upon calling Kia customer service, they claimed my vehicle was exempt frim this recall, however, this very issue happened to my well-maintained vehicle.
Engine locked up while driving on expressway. Car would not accelerate and became very difficult to control. One of the recalls stated that "bearings could slip and cause engine to seize up." Driver was able to safely get the car back, but car is disabled. Airport Kia, in Naples, FL where the car was purchased, was notified of the problem and the recall for this specific problem, but have been unwilling to help. If she was unable to control the car, could have killed herself or other drivers. Car has not been inspected because Kia dealership said she must have the car towed to dealership. On a recall problem, dealership should be responsible for the tow, but I feel they are bullying her because she is a 16 year old girl. This happened with no warning.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking, and a loud knocking sound was coming from the engine. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and the vehicle loss motive power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed that there was rod bearing wear and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V224000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was 123,000.
THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE AND STOPPED RUNNING. THE ENGINE HAS A WHOLE IN IT. THE 2014 4 CYCLINDERS HAVE A RECALL. MINE IS A V6. SURPRISINGLY, A SIMILAR SITUATION JUST OCCURRED WITH MY CO-WORKER'S 2014 V6 SORENTO AS WELL.

ONE DAY I HEARD A CLICKING WHILE DRIVING 65 ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I PULLED INTO TOWN AND SLOWED DOWN IT STOPPED. I HAD TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I STARTED TO GO I HEARD THE CLICKING AGAIN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN GOING 65, MY ENGINE REDUCED POWER AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS BLINKING. WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AT THE STOP SIGN AND STARTED TO GO SO I COULD PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC IT HAD A HARD TIME GETTING POWER TO GO. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEN TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE, BUT FROM WHAT I AM READING ONLINE, IT SEEMS KIA HAS ALOT OF ENGINE ISSUES. FINGERS CROSSED ITS UNDER WARRANTY AND IT CAN BE FIXED AS I JUST SPENT $3000.00 6 MONTHS AGO FOR A NEW STRUT AND AN ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I ONLY HAVE $129,000 ON THIS VEHICLE. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

I WAS DRIVING GOING ABOUT 45 TO 48 MPH ON A MAIN ROAD WITH TRAFFICE FLOWING FASTER THAN ME AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS ALL LID UP. IT WAS A SCARY MOMENT FOR ME AS WHEN I NOTICED AND TRIED TO BREAK A LITTLE THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED AND I COULDN'T BREAK. I HAD TO LET THE CAR ROLL UNTIL IT CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. WHEN IT CAME TO COMPLETE STOP I TURNED THE KEY AND THEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART IT JUST DID A CLICKING NOISE. THE ENGINE SOUNDED HORRIBLE AS IT SMELLED BURNING AND GRINDING METAL PIECES WERE HEARD. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP BECUASE MY ENGINE LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF OR SOMETIMES JUST FLASH AND WOULDN'T COME BACK ON. ALL KIA SAID THAT IT WAS THE MAP SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THAT WAS JUNE 18, 2019, AND NOW MY CAR JUST WON'T START.
ENGINE LOCKED 12/24/19. ENGINE AND PARTS HAS SINCE BEEN DISCONTINUED WHICH HAS MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX. MY SORENTO IS STILL IN THE SHOP TIL THIS DAY. THERE'S CURRENTLY A RECALL ON SMALLER KIA SORENTO ENGINES, HOWEVER, NOT MINE YET.

I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AND CAR RAPIDLY LOST POWER. I WAS LUCKY TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD IT TOWED TO KIA. THEY HAVE TOLD ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE, COSTING IN THE RANGE OF $8,000 OR MORE. IT IS A 2014 KIA WITH ONLY 111,000 MILES.
VEHICLE IS 3,000 MILES OVER 100,000 MILE WARRANTY AND OVERHEATED WHILE DRIVING AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BLOWN HEAD GASKET.
I OWN A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE WITH THIS CAR. I TALKED TO MY LOCAL KIA DEALER MONTHS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD PUT ME ON A WAITLIST TO FIX THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS. NOW IT'S BEEN A FEW MONTHS AND I'M STILL WAITING. THEY SAY THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. NOW IT'S LEADING TO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE AND I EVENTUALLY WANT TO SELL THE CAR, BUT NOTHING CAN GET DONE UNTIL THIS RECALL IS FIXED! BECAUSE OF THE RECALL, MY CAR IS AT RISK OF CATCHING ON FIRE SO I CAN'T PARK IN MY GARAGE. IT'S UNSAFE HAVING TO WAIT MONTHS TO GET A RECALL LIKE THIS FIXED!

WHEN DRIVING HOME I PULLED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND STARTED TO SMELL SLIGHT GAS, WHEN I GET TO MY HOUSE A PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. IN AN ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE HOOD I NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. I CALLED 911 AND MY FRIEND WENT TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER DID NOT WORK AS THE FIRE GREW BIG AND FAST. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ON FIRE. NO RECENT WORK HAS BEEN DONE OF THE CAR BESIDES REGULAR OIL CHANGES. THE CAR WAS DRIVING PERFECTLY FINE AND NO WARNING LIGHTS OR WEIRD NOISES BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE.

THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST TWO TIMES WHEN SERVICE FOR SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE WAS DUE AND THE SHOP SAID THE ENGINE HAD ALMOST NO OIL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SAME SHOP ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION AFTER HEARING RATTLING NOISES AROUND THE MOTOR WHILE DRIVING AND THE SAME ANSWER WAS GIVEN ABOUT VERY LOW ON OIL LEVEL. THIS WEEK THE CAR STALLED WHILE ONE OF MY KIDS WAS DRIVING AND I PICKED THEM UP WHERE THEY WERE LOCATED. I ASSUMED IT WAS THE BATTERY BUT AFTER AAA TOWING CAME THEY SHOWED ME THE BATTERY HAD FULL CHARGE AND PULLED THE OIL DIP STICK AND SHOWED ME NO OIL MARKING. THE CAR IS A 2014 SUV WITH 155,950 MILES. THERE WERE NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS OR ANY KIND OF INDICATORS WARNING THAT OIL WAS LOW OR COMPLETELY DRIED OUT. THE CAR DOES NOT TURN AND IS AT THE SHOP. THE SHOP PREVIOUSLY DID SOME COSTLY WORK AS THEY REPAIRED AN OIL LEAK BUT THAT HAS BEEN ABOUT 1 YEAR TO 1.5 YEARS AGO AND I'VE NOT NOTICED ANY LEAKAGE. I CAN PROVIDE RECEIPTS IF NEEDED. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON NOT THE OIL LIGHT WHEN IT'S TIME TO FILL. ONCE I HAVE OIL CHANGE IT GOES OFF OUT THE NEXT DAY. MY ENGINE LIGHT CURRENTLY REMAINS ON AND I SMELL A BURNING FROM MY ENGINE AND MY VEHICLE DRIVES AS IF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE OR IT STRUGGLES TO CHANGE OVER.I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW WITH MY ENGINE SMELLING AS IF IT'S BURNING.
CAR STARTED MAKING KNOCKING NOISE WITH LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON 45MPH ROAD. CHECKED OIL, NO OIL. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME IN DASH PRIOR OR CURRENTLY INDICATING LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
THE ENGINE MAY STOP WORKING ENTIRELY WITHOUT WARNING. SHUT OFF AND WILL NOT PROVIDE POWER, MAKING KNOCKING SOUNDS.
ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AND LOST SOME POWER DARNING DRIVING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS THE 3.3L GDI ENGINE. THIS ENGINE IS NOT PART OF THE SC147 RECALL. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CARS. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE I'M HAVING IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. WE HAVE A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA THAT WAS COVERED UNDER A DIFFERENT RECALL. IT INITIALLY PASSED THE RECALL TEST. THE ENGINE FAILED LATER WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS I'M HAVING WITH THE 2014 KIA. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT.
WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE RUNNING BUT STANDING STILL THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE UVO/ONBOARD VOICE ALERT CAME ON AND ALERTED TO A SERIOUS ENGINE ISSUE/OR FAILURE. ENGINE CODE P0263 (CONTRIBUTION BALANCE) & P0301 (CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE). DEALER DIAGNOSED CYLINDER 1 INTERNAL INJECTOR FAILURE & ESTIMATED REPLACEMENT COST OF $526.00 PLUS TAX. VEHICLE ODOMETER AT TIME OF SERVICE WAS 75485 MILES.
OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PERFORMED AND VEHICLE IS STILL CONSUMING/BURNING OIL AT A RATE OF 1 TO 2 QUARTS EVERY FEW WEEKS / ENGINE KNOCKING CONTINUOUS / KIA OF IRVINE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE NO ANSWERS AND WASTED MY TIME ON A RECENT SCHEDULED VISIT AND SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND UPON LOOKING UP THE RECALL STATUS IT STATES THERE ARE 4 , ANSWERS ARE NEEDED ON THE STATUS OF THIS VEHICLE , THANK YOU
ENGINE IS MAKING VERY LOUD NOISE AND NOT DRIVABLE. WHEN TOOK TO KIA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO GDI 4 CYL ENGINE AND IT WAS RECALLED BUT NOT THE 6 CYL EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEMS ARE THE SAME DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I CALLED KIA AMERICA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING.
RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. NO DETERMINATION AS TO WHAT IT IS.
MY 2014 KIA SORENTO STARTED TO MAKE KNOCKING SOUND AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO CHECK OUT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON OR ANY OTHER WARNING SIGNS. AFTER CHECKING SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE METAL PIECES IN THE ENGINE. THEY ALSO SAID THAT KIA SORRENTO 4 CYLINDER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WAS RECALLED BUT NOT THE 6 CYLINDER. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE TOO LONG BECAUSE THE ENGINE MAY STALL. THEY QUOTE ME $7000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE OR SUGGESTED TO TRADE IN FOR A DIFFERENT CAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR HOME AND TOWED IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING AND ASKED ME TO CALL KIA USA AND FILE A COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE LOT OF TSB'S ON THIS 2014 KIA SORRENTO. ACCORDING TO KIA DEALERSHIP NOTES THEY SAY "CONNECTING ROD FAILURE"
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND BASICALLY "DIED". POLICE ASSISTED MY DAUGHTER (WHO WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON HER WAY TO WORK ON A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE). CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE IT REMAINED OVER THE WEEKEND. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO ANOTHER SHOP LOCAL TO MY RESIDENCE. UPON DIAGNOSIS, THE STARTER WAS FOUND TO BE BURNED OUT, BUT VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT START. EVENTUALLY IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE WAS THE PROBLEM.THE ENGINE SEIZED UP. POSSIBLY TIMING CHAIN BUT NOT CERTAIN, AT THIS POINT. SEEMS TO HAVE OCCURRED RANDOMLY. ENGINE HAS HAD PROPER CARE. BATTERY AND STARTER ARE BOTH GOOD (STARTER WAS REPLACED BECAUSE THE SEIZED ENGINE LIKELY BURNED THE STARTER OUT). SHOULD POSSIBLY BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL # SC147. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ANOTHER DRIVER WAS HONKING TO INFORM THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT PASSENGER OPENED THE DOOR AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A FIRE. THE CONTACT WHO WAS THE DRIVER AND THE FRONT PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BURN TO THE ARM AND BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DRIVER ALSO REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION DUE TO THE SMOKE INHALATION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN BUT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITH THE HELP OF THE PASSENGER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED YET. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO SUPERIOR HYUNDAI SOUTH (238 W MITCHELL AVE, CINCINNATI, OH 45232) FOR A UNKNOWN RECALL FOR A MOTOR REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
CAR STOPPED RUNNING, WHILE DRIVING. WAS TOWED TO REPAIR CENTER. WAS TOLD ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 5-10,000 DOLLARS. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 66000 MILES. *TR
I WAS AT A LIGHT ON FRIDAY AND MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF.I HAD TO PUSH IT TO THE GASTION. WHEN MY MECHANIC CAME TO LOOK AT IT ON FRIDAY HE SAID THAT MY ENGINE LOCKED I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WASN'T A RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER BUT THERE WAS RECALLS ON 2013 AND 2014 KIA SORENTO AND KIA SOLES . I HAVE A FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAS A 2013 KIA SORENTO AND HE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH HIS ENGINE. IS THE GDI ENGINES AND THAT'S THE ENGINE I HAVE AND IS NOT REPLACEABLE THAT IS SO MESSED UP. THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT ON ALL ENGINES OF GDI.WHY THIS HAPPENING TO ME WHEN I HAVE 6 MONTHS LEFT OF PAYMENTS AND IT'S $3,500 TO REPLACE AN ENGINE THIS IS REALLY ABSURD. *TR
MY ENGINE STARTED BLOWING SMOKE WHEN DRIVING OUT WITH MY FAMILY. I TOOK IT TO KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT BOTH THE FRONT TIMING COVER AND THE OIL PAN GASKET HAD A LEAK AND THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR HAD AN ENGINE RECALL DONE BY THEM ON WHICH DURING MANUFACTURING THERE WERE METALS SHARDS THAT SPREAD THROUGH THE ENGINE. I ALSO READ THIS ENGINE (THETA 2) WAS INVOLVED IN CASES WERE THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THEIR ENGINES SHOULD BE WARRANTIED FOR A LONGER TIME. I'M ATTACHING THE INVOICE FOR THE REPAIRS DONE.
I BOUGHT 2014 KIA SORRENTO WITH 93,000 ON IT HAD OIL CHANGE TO FULL MAX LIFE SYNTHETIC API OIL AND OIL FILTER CHANGE TO FULL SYNTHETIC FILTER AT 97,389 .THEN GOT TO AND OIL GOOD FOR 7,500 MILES. ENGINE WENT OUT AT 102,500. AND NORMAL DRIVING ..
ENGINE MALFUNCTION PERTAINING TO THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE STARTED TO SKIP WHILE SITTING STATIONARY IN PARKING SPACE AS IF NOT RECEIVING ENOUGH FUEL THEN HAS REDUCED POWER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT POSSIBLE COVERAGE FOR REPLACEMENT SINCE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT COVERED AND THAT IT WOULD CODE IN ASSESS OF 1,000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR.
CAR STARTED OVERHEATING AND COOLANT BACKED UP AND OVER FLOWED COOLANT RESERVOIR. ALSO BEING WINTER THERE WAS NO HEAT COMING FROM THE HEATER. THIS HAPPENED WHETHER TRAVELING 70 MILES AN HOUR, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, OR IDLING IN PARK. TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD GO FROM NORMAL TEMP TO OVER HEATING TEMPS, BACK AND FORTH WITH THE SOUND OF BUBBLING IN THE RESERVOIR AND HEAVY COOLANT LEAKAGE. ME AND MY WIFE ALSO NOTICED A STRONG FOUL FUEL ODER EXSPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT, FLUSHED AND FILLED THE RADIATOR WITH 50-50 MIX OF ANTIFREEZE AND IT CHANGED NONE OF THE PROBLEMS LISTED ABOVE. HAD SYSTEM PRESSURE TESTED AND A SCAN OF THE ENGINE OB2 MODULE AND CAME BACK WITH 0 CODES. RESEARCHED VEHICLE AND FOUND RECALL NUMBER SC147 ENGINE/ENGINE COOLING, ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAR CARS KIA LOCATED AT (4700 BRANCH AVE, MARLOW HEIGHTS, MD) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, A LOUD RATTLING SOUND WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH CAUSED THE GEAR TO WEAR WHICH CAUSED THE RATTLING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
JANUARY 10, 2020 HAD THE RECALLS ON MY CAR CHECKED. NOTHING WAS WRONG. WHILE DRIVING HOME FEBRUARY 28, 2020, MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE A HORRIBLE KNOCKING NOISE. I WAS ONLY ABOUT 2 MILES FROM HOME. PULLED IN AND TURNED CAR OFF. CONTACT KIA WAS TOLD TO BRING CAR IN THE NEXT MORNING THAT THERE WAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE MOTOR. START THE CAR AND DRIVE 2 MILES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIKE STARTED BLINKING, OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, CAR DIED AND NEVER HAS STARTED BACK. ASKED THE KIA DEALER IF THEY WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER CAR AND WAS TOLD NO. FIRST I WAS OUT A $300 TOWING BILL BECAUSE THEY NEVER EVER CHECKED OUT THE ENGINE RECALL, AND NOW I AM OUT ANOTHER $300 ON A RENTAL.
2014 KIA SORENTO CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WON'T START BATTERY FULLY CHARGED. WHILE GOING OVER 50 CAR JUST LOST POWER. WON'T TURN OVER NOTHING HAD TO PAY FOR TOW TO DEALERSHIP TO WAIT AND SEE IF THEY EVEN KNOW. VERY UNSAFE WAS THIRD TIME HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING THIS TIME DEAD. CAR HAS LESS THEN 84,000 MILES AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY
MY 2014 KIA SORENTO RECENTLY HAD AN ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING SO I STARTED TO EXIT THE FREEWAY BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE MIDDLE LANE I HEARD A LOUD POP COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. BEFORE THE ENGINE QUIT WORKING THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASH AND TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE WAS NORMAL. AS SOON AS THE ENGINE QUIT WORKING THE OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED 17 MILES AND 150 DOLLARS LATER I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY SEIZED UP. THEY CHECKED THE OIL LEVELS AND SAID IT WAS HALF OF A QUART LOW. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND ALL OF THE MILES PUT ON IT ARE FREEWAY MILES DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK. THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING UP OIL LIKE CRAZY EVERYTIME I TOOK IT IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OR REPLACED THE OIL MYSELF IT HAS BEEN LOW AND VERY BLACK. THE MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN KEPT UP ON PER SPEC'S OF THE MANUFACTURER.
WAS DRIVING ON STATE HIGHWAY WHILE PASSING SLOWER MOVING VEHICLES. CAR SHUT OFF WHILE MOVING AT 60-65MPH WHILE OVERTAKING VEHICLES. PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE AS THE CAR HAD SHUTOFF COMPLETELY. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT BEGIN THE STARTING PROCESS AT ALL. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SEMI-GRINDING NOISE AND CLICK. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND IS 'BLOWN'. CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 85K MILES.
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL VERY QUICKLY. WE HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND AROUND 5,000 MILES LATER, THERE WAS ZERO OIL LEFT IN THE CAR - THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. THEN IT WAS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. THEN LESS THAN 3,000 MILES LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. ADDED 4 QUARTS OF OIL TO IT AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER, IT WAS LOW AGAIN AND THE OIL WAS VERY DARK.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR STARTED SHAKING, KNOCKING, AND DECELERATING AS I TRIED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE.
THE ISSUE IS THE ENGINE IT'S BURNING THE OIL AND ONE OF THE RECALL THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE AND THATS THE PROBLEM THAT I'M HAVING. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED IN THE ROAD WHEN I SMELLED THE BURNING OIL. NOW MY MECHANICS SAYS THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE A ENGINE THAT ONLY IS 6 YRS OLD
2014 KIA SORENTO JUST QUIT WORKING. ME AND THE FAMILY WERE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE GOING 70MPH AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD TICKING NOISE THEN JUST LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE SAFELY.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH OIL FILTER LIGHT ONLY WEEKS AFTER OIL CHANGE AND KNOCKING SOUND BECAME CLEAR IN MY ENGINE AREA. VEHICLE HAS ALSO SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING.
ENGINE OIL BURNOUT - WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF A FRESH OIL CHANGE THE OIL COMPLETELY BURNED OUT OF THE CRANK CASE / 2 OIL CHANGES PERFORMED WITHIN 3 WEEKS , NO OIL LEAKS OR SMOKE FROM EXHAUST , VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND IMMEDIATELY HERD A KNOCK AND PULLED OVER AND SHUT VEHICLE OFF BEFORE ANY MAJOR DAMAGES COULD OCCUR
MOTOR LOCKED UP WITH 85000 MILES. ENTERING INTERSTATE ON A ON RAMP AT 55 MILES PER HOUR AND CAR JUST SHUT OFF AND MECHANIC SAID MOTOR IS LOCKED UP. THERE WAS METAL IN THE OIL.
PURCHASED VEHICLE A YEAR AGO AND ALREADY PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO WHILE ON HIGHWAY MY ENGINE BEGAN TO SEIZE AND I HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE CAREFULLY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED THEN AGAIN AS PREPARING TO TURN ONTO MY STREET THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE ENGINE SEIZED AGAIN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I CANNOT ACCELERATE. THIS WAS VERY SCARY AS I HAD MY 2 YOUNG GIRLS IN THE CAR WITH ME THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED. I QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED OFF IGNITION AND TURNED BACK ON AFTER A FEW SECONDS. THE CAR STARTED UP RIGHT AWAY BUT THEN A LOUD CLICKING/RATTLING SOUND BEGAN AND HAS NOT STOPPED MAKING SOUND SINCE. AT THIS POINT I BELIEVE IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE WHICH I HAVE BEEN READING IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH KIA.
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT HAS IGNITED 3 TIMES, BLINKING CONTINOUSLY, PLACING MY VEHICLE INTO LIMP HOME MODE. KIA REFUSES TO REPLACE THE KNOCK SENSOR OR ENGINE.
10/16/2019 I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN I HEARD A LOUD THUNK OR BANG. MY CAR LOST POWER AND I PULLED TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. AS I WAS STOPPING THE ENGINE AND OIL LIGHTS FLASHED ON. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES, THE SMOKE HAD INCREASED AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE BEFORE THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO SALVAGE WHERE INSURANCE CALLED IT A TOTAL LOSS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KING KIA (953 N FREDERICK AVE, GAITHERSBURG, MD 20879, (301) 948-3333) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, A WEEK LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO KING KIA WHERE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, A RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH UP A HILL AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND STRUGGLED TO GO UP THE HILL. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS UP THE HILL, A RATTLING NOISE OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NALLEY KIA (7849 MALL PKWY, LITHONIA, GA 30038, (678) 374-3820) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BEARING FELL INTO THE ENGINE AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND STILL REMAINED AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,999.
MY 2014 ENGINE OVER HEATED WHICH LEAD TO A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR LOST POWER AND EXCESSIVELY OVERHEATED.
UPON INITIATING AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION WHEN A LIGHT TURNED GREEN ALL THE DASH LIGHTS WENT BERSERK, THERE WAS A LOUD POP, FOLLOWED BY SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE CAR DIED AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED FOR A SINGLE SMALL ACCELERATION TO THE SHOULDER. THICK SMOKE THEN ENGULFED THEN ENGULFED THE HOOD AND CONTINUED FOR 15 MINS. UPON BEING TOWED, THE MECHANICS CONFIRMED ALL FLUID LEVELS WERE NORMAL HOWEVER THE ENGINE IS FULLY SEIZED, UNABLE TO BE CRANKED BY HAND. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. IN FACT, THE DEALERSHIP OWNER'S NEIGHBOR HAD PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS EXCEPTIONALLY MAINTAINED. UNDER MY OWNERSHIP ALL REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE VISITS HAVE BEEN MADE AND THE OIL CHANGED APPROXIMATELY EVERY 5,00 MILES. IN APRIL 2018 A KNOCKING SOUND WAS PRESENT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON RESULTING IN THE DEALERSHIP REPLACING THE CVT CONTROL VALVE, VALVE-OIL CONTROL, CVVT, GASKET OUTLET AND ROCKER COVERS, O-RING, BOLT FLANGES, AND MORE. ALL OF WHICH RELATE TO THE KNOWN (THOUGH UNDISCLOSED TO ME) ISSUES WITH THE GDI ENGINES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNUSABLE WITH A SEIZED ENGINE.
AT THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST 2019, MY AIR CONDITIONER STARTED PUTTING OUT HOT AIR. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP ON 8/16 AND THEY DID THE USUAL SAFETY CHECK AND THEY DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING (I FORGOT TO MENTION THE AIR CONDITIONING). ON 8/25 I WAS DRIVING HOME AND IT WAS VERY HOT OUT AND THE A/C WAS STILL NOT WORKING. I NOTICED AS I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT MY HOME, THE ENGINE TEMP GAUGE WAS FULLY ON "H" HOT. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE KIA SERVICE THE NEXT MORNING. AFTER THEY REVIEWIED IT, THEY DETERMINED I HAD "CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE" WHICH WAS WHY THE A/C WASN'T WORKING. MY MODEL WAS NOT SPECIFICALLY RECALLED AT THE TIME. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY ARE PUTTING IN A NEW ENGINE COMPLETELY. THIS IS STILL A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WITH KIA ENGINES OVERALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT GLIDED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TESTED THE VEHICLE, RECHARGED THE BATTERY, AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED AFTER A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WAS HEARD WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. BATTLEGROUND KIA (2927 BATTLEGROUND AVE, GREENSBORO, NC 27408, (336) 295-1542) WAS CONTACTED AND ATTEMPTED TO GET THE CONTACT TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE AND PURCHASE A NEW ONE. THE CONTACT SEARCHED THE VIN ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND DID NOT SEE ANY RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER, AND ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED A RECALL AND WOULD REFER THE CASE BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED BACK AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CASE WAS DECLINED WITH NO REASON GIVEN AND THE CASE WOULD BE ESCALATED TO A HIGHER LEVEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
KIA ENGINE RECALL. 2014 KIA SORENTO HAS THE 3.3 V6 LAMBDA II ENGINE. DRIVING CAR ON FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY LOUD KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM ENGINE THAT BECAME LOUDER WITH ACCELERATION - MAKING CAR UNDRIVEABLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, IT IS CURRENTLY STILL THERE - DIAGNOSIS SO FAR IS METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL PAN, ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE DESCRIBED IN THE THE KIA RECALL WITH THE THETA II ENGINES. CALLED KIA AND ALL THEY SAID WAS THEY WOULD ONLY OPEN A CASE NUMBER. SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED THIS ENGINE IN THE RECALL. SEARCHING ONLINE, THERE ARE OTHERS WITH THE 3.3 LAMBDA II ENGINE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THIS ENGINE NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, IT IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHILE IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VICTOR VALLEY KIA (14644 VALLEY CENTER DR, VICTORVILLE, CA 92395, (760) 955-0046) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE THE RESULTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AT 88K MILES. LOST POWER/ACCELERATION ON HIGHWAY
I FILED BELOW COMPLAINT NUMBER 11229677 AND HAVE HEARD NOTHING. SO TRYING AGAIN. LAST FALL I RECEIVED A LETTER AND HAD A KSDS SENSOR INSTALLED TO DETECT AND PREVENT ENGINE FAILURE. IN MAR THE KSDS KICKED IN AND THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR HAZARD. HAVING THE ENGINE SEIZE WITH THE REAL ISSUE IS PROBABLY WORSE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER, WHO GAVE US A LOANER, THEN CALLED US BACK THE NEXT DAY TO SAY THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE ENGINE WOULD NEED REPLACED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER WE CHECKED ON WHEN THE VEH WOULD BE FIXED, WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE DONE WITH OUR VEHICLE. THEY DID SOMETHING TO THE WIRE HARNESS AND A TEST ON THE ENGINE TO SAY THE VEHICLE WAS OK. I WOULD LIKE AN EXPLANATION ON THE SITUATION AND WHY IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. 1.WHY DID THE KSDS KICK IN AND WHY IS MY VEHICLE OK NOW? 2.DID THEY DO SOMETHING (DISABLE) TO PREVENT THE KSDS FROM KICKING IN AGAIN? 3.DID THEY ENHANCE IT TO BETTER DETECT A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM? WHAT EXACTLY DID THEY DO WITH THE WIRE HARNESS/KSDS? 4.CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE ENGINE TEST DONE THAT VERIFIES MY ENGINE IS OK, AND FOR HOW LONG DOES THIS APPLY? 5.HOW QUICKLY CAN THE REAL ISSUE HAPPEN? 6.WILL MY CAR STILL BE COVERED BY THE LIFETIME WARRANTY? 7.IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY?
ON 8/1/19 WHILE DRIVING ON A ROAD IN STAMFORD CT, THE CAR TURNED COMPLETELY OFF. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND ATTEMPT TO STOP THE CAR. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION. I WAITED FOR 3-4 MINS AND THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT STARTED WITHOUT AN ISSUE. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED THIS YEAR, THE OTHER TIME WAS ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR IN MONROE NY. IN SEPT 2018, THE CAR ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY REPLACED BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAD FAILED. THE CAR TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING WAS THE FIRST INDICATION - IT HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES PRIOR TO SEPT 2018, AND SINCE THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE, THEY DEEMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. IN AUGUST 2018, THE CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND DID NOT TURN ON AGAIN. IT HAD TO BE TOWED FROM MADISON, CT TO STAMFORD CT WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. I HAD TO WAIT ALMOST A MONTH FOR A NEW ENGINE AND NOW WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 8/1/19, EVERY SINGLE TIME THE CAR HAS TURNED OFF, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH MY YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR - THEY ARE NOW 5 AND 8. THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRIGHTENING TO BE ON A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR TURN OFF. IN 2018, I WOULD ONLY DRIVE IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE NEAR THE SHOULDER IN THE EVENT THAT THIS SITUATION WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I WILL BEGIN DRIVING ONCE AGAIN IN THE RIGHT LANE ONLY BECAUSE I DO NOT WISH TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS CAR'S CONTINUED FAULTY ENGINE ISSUES.
IN MOTION WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE MY 2014 KIA SORENTO LOST ACCELERATION. WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE LANE ON A TWO LANE ROAD, WITH MY FOOT ON THE GAS THE CAR CONTINUED TO DECLINE IN SPEED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO CONTINUE TO PASS THE CAR AT WHICH POINT AN ONCOMING CAR WAS APPROACHING, I HAD TO COAST THE CAR TO GET BACK INTO MY LANE AND EVENTUALLY OFF THE ROAD, VERY SCARY ORDEAL, WITH THE LOSS OF POWER I WAS NOT SURE IF I WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE ONCOMING CAR. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION OFF THE ROAD, THE CAR CUT OFF. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR ONCE, NOTHING, TWICE THE CAR STARTED THEN QUICKLY DIED AFTER ANOTHER MOMENT I AGAIN TRIED TO START THE CAR, IT STARTED AND REMAINED STARTED. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY DRIVE UNDER 40 TO AN OPEN LOCATION, AT THIS TIME A KNOCKING SOUND CAME FROM THE ENGINE. I DID NOT TAKE THE CHANCE ON DRIVING IT ANY LONGER AS I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. I HAD TO CALL THE FREEWAY ASSIST TO TOW ME OFF THE FREEWAY ROAD WHERE I SAT IN AN OPEN UNMANNED FIELD TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER TOW TRUCK. THE WHOLE ORDEAL WAS VERY SCARY AS I AM A FEMALE AND ALONE DURING THIS INCIDENT.
AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE IN MARCH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON IN EARLY JUNE. THE DEALERSHIP IS STATING THAT THE ENGINE WILL SEIZE AND THERE WAS NO OIL. MY CAR DID NOT BURN OR LEAK OIL. THE DEALER IS STATING IT'S AN OPEN RECALL BUT KIA IS DENYING.
LAST FALL 2018 I RECEIVED A LETTER AND HAD A KSDS SENSOR INSTALLED 28 DEC TO DETECT AND PREVENT ENGINE FAILURE. 22 MAR 2019 THE KSDS KICKED IN AND THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. IT COMPLETELY STALLS THEN LETS YOU ACCELERATE A LITTLE AND DRIVE REALLY SLOW. IF YOU ACCELERATE TOO MUCH IT AGAIN STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS. LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME TRAVELING ~40 ON A SIDE ROAD (NOT HIGHWAY). COUPLE WEEKS LATER WE CHECKED ON AND WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE DONE WITH OUR VEHICLE. THEY DID SOMETHING TO THE WIRE HARNESS AND A TEST ON THE ENGINE TO SAY THE VEHICLE WAS OK. I ASKED THE DEALER AND KIA CA FOR THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION: 1.WHY DID THE KSDS KICK IN AND WHY IS MY VEHICLE OK NOW? 2.DID THEY DO SOMETHING (DISABLE) TO PREVENT THE KSDS FROM KICKING IN AGAIN? 3.DID THEY ENHANCE IT TO BETTER DETECT A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM? WHAT EXACTLY DID THEY DO WITH THE WIRE HARNESS/KSDS? 4.HOW QUICKLY CAN THE REAL ISSUE HAPPEN? 5.WILL MY CAR STILL BE COVERED BY THE LIFETIME WARRANTY? 6.IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY? GOT A RUN AROUND AND NO ANSWER. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK. I WON'T DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY THE WIFE, KIDS, GRANDKIDS. I FOUND THE TSB 1802W/X AND 1803W/X AND IT INDICATES INTERFERENCE ON THE W/H AND WAS REPLACED. SO DID MY KSDS KICK IN BECAUSE OF INTERFERENCE AND NOT THE REAL PROBLEM? REGARDLESS IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THIS KSDS? WHATEVER HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE APPRECIATED, THANKS.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR LOST POWER AT 11PM ON A SATURDAY NITE. IT WOULD ONLY GO APOROX 40MPH W THE THE GAS PETAL TO THE FLOOR. NO CHECK LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL APOROX A FEW MIN FROM HOME. ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NO OVERHEATING NO SMOKE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE THE 2.4 ENGINE THAT WAS RECALLED. I HAVE THE 3.3. ALSO THE KIA MECHANIC SAID THE SAME. ONLY 70000 MILES ON THE CAR. KIA AT THIS POINT IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 3 WEEKS AND AS OF YESTERDAY STILL NO ANSWER. I EVEN LEFT A VOICE MAIL FOR SEAN YOON THE CEO. I TRIED TO CALL MR YOON YESTERDAY BUT GOT REDIRECTED TO THIR CONSUMER DEPT. THEY SAID IT TAKES 2-3 DAYS TO DETERMINE A DECISION. SO IM PAYING FOR A CAR AND A RENTAL WHEN THEY ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS. ONE CONSUMER DEPT EMPLOYEE I SPOKE W SAID SHE HASNT HAD VERY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 3.3. WELL THAT RIGHT THERE IS A RED FLAG! I JUST WANT THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING. THEY ALSO TRIED TO TELL ME THAT BECAUSE IM THE SECOND OWNER AND I WAS PAST THE 60000 MI SERVICE WARRENTY I HAD NO COVERAGE AND THE 100000 WAS ONLY FOR FIRST OWNER. ITS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT NOT ANYTHING WE DID. WE HAVE BEEN LOYAL KIA CUSTOMERS FOR OVER 10 YEARS. I FEEL LIKE BECAUSE WE DIDNT BUY ANOTHER NEW KIA WE ARE BEING PUNISHED. THIS CARS DEFECT COULD OF SERIOUSLY INJURED A LOT OF PEOPLE IF THIS WOULD OF HAPPENED DURING A BUSY TIME OF DAY. I KNOW THEY ARE BUSY TAKING CARE OF OTHER COMPLAINTS BUT TO WAIT 3 WEEKS IS A BIT UNNERVING.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM BALTIMORE, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY CAR TURNED ON AND THE CAR STARTED DECELERATING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO PARK THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL AFTER THAT. I CHARGED MY PHONE AND THE CAR BATTERY DIED AS I WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK. I GOT IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE ENGINE AND WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL KIA CURRENTLY HAS. I GOT IT TOWED AGAIN TO KIA ON THE BOULEVARD ON MARCH 20TH. THEY LIED TO ME AND SAID THEY WERE WORKING ON MY CAR ONLY TO FIND OUT MARCH 29TH THEY NEVER LOOKED AT MY CAR AND HAD LOST MY KEY. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THEM TO ORDER A NEW KEY AND THEN SEND PICTURES TO GET THE WARRANTY APPROVED. THEY ADVISED ME THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A LOANER OR HELP WITH A RENTAL BUT I COULD BE REIMBURSED AFTER ALL REPAIRS ARE MADE. I RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL APRIL 1ST SAYING MY CAR WAS DONE WHEN THE WARRANTY WAS NOT APPROVED YET. THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY TOLD ME DIFFERENT LIES AND ADVISED THEY RUSHED THE ORDER OF MY ENGINE AND IT WOULD BE THERE BY MAY 10TH. A NEW ENGINE HAS STILL NOT ARRIVED FOR ME, I CALLED THE NUMBER THEY GAVE ME FOR KIA'S "CORPORATE OFFICE" AND WAS ADVISED A RUSH WAS NOT PLACED UNTIL MAY 15TH AND THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE ENGINE WILL BE DELIVERED. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING A HOUSE AND I FEAR I'LL BE SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN RENTALS WITHOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG. I'VE ALREADY SPENT OVER $500 AS A RESULT OF THIS. I HAVE TRIED TO BE PATIENT BUT THE BLATANT LIES AND IRRESPONSIBILITY IS BAFFLING.
ENGINE DIES WHEN DRIVING. RPMS ARE AT 0 WHEN MY SPEED WILL BE 60 MPH. I HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN MY CAR OFF THEN TURN IT BACK ON TO START THE ENGINE AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS 7-14 TIMES A WEEK. IT HAPPENS IN THE CITY, COUNTRY ROADS, GOING FAST OR SLOW. I AM GOING TO GET IN A WRECK IF THIS IS NOT FIXED.
I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR AN ISSUE WITH THE HEAT. THE HEAT WAS NOT WARMING THE CAR CONSISTENTLY DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, AND BY THE END WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL , ALSO HAD EXPERIENCED OVERHEATING APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES WITHIN THE WEEKS BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE.
MY ENGINE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AT A STOP LIGHT
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOING UP. WE STOPPED AT A SHOP AND GOT IT LOOKED AT AND THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND FLUSHED THE RADIATOR. ON THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME WE NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOING BACK UP AND PULLED OVER. WE HAD IT TOWED HOME. WE AGAIN MADE THE REPAIRS AND THEN TOOK IT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO LOOK IT OVER AND HAVE ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE AND PAID BY THE WARRANTY WE HAVE ON THE SORRENTO. THE DEALERSHIP HOOKED UP THE VEHICLE TO CHECK THE FREE STREAM DATA FAULT CODES BUT NON WERE PRESENT. OUR SORRENTO GOT HOT ENOUGH TO WARP THE ENGINE HEADS AND REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE BUT NEVER ONCE DID IT TRIP A CODE/WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH. IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR US NOTICING THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOING UP WE WOULD HAVE HAD NO WARNING THAT OUR CAR WAS OVERHEATED TO THE POINT THE RADIATOR BOILED OVER AND WARPED THE ENGINE HEADS. WHY WASN'T ANY WARNING LIGHT SUCH AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING SIGNALED TO COME ON?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THEN OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KIA COUNTRY OF SAVANNAH (1 PARK OF COMMERCE BLVD, SAVANNAH, GA 31405, (912) 629-4906) FOR AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR CONCERNING THE ENGINE NOT CYCLING THE OIL THROUGH PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND LOST POWER WHILE ATTEMPTING A TURN AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING WHILE DRIVING IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID THE BEARING IN THE ENGINE WERE SHOT. ALL OTHER MAKES AND MODELS ARE UNDER RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SMAE REASON. I'VE NOTED OTHERS FROM THE INTERNET ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS MENTIONED ABOVE IN THE 3.3 L. ENGINE
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY AND GOING UP A MEDIUM INCLINE, A TICKING NOISE PROGRESSIVELY GOT LOUDER OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT 45 SECONDS TO A MINUTE UNTIL THERE WAS TOTAL LOSS OF POWER, ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION FROM A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASH AS THIS WAS HAPPENING AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL. LUCKILY THERE WAS ENOUGH SHOULDER AND HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THE VEHICLE FELL UNDER A SAFETY RECALL WHICH WAS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN COMPLETED OCTOBER 13, 2017. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE.
I TOOK THE CAR TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME THE ENGINE HAS AN OIL LEAK. I BELIEVE THEIR KIAS SPORTAGE 2011 & 2012 WERE ALSO RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS BEFORE AND NEVER HAD AN OIL LEAK ON THE ENGINE AT ALL. THEY SAID THE REPAIRS WERE GOING TO COST OVER $1000 TO REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS CAR SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED DUE THAT THEY HAVE A HISTORY OF OTHER MODELS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THANK YOU.
2014 SORENTO ENGINE WAS REPLACED 9/2017@ SHAWNEE MISSION KIA PER RECALL SC147. BEFORE REPLACEMENT, THERE WERE NO CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES. AFTER SINCE 3/2018, IT HAD FOUR (4) CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURES IN TEN (10) MONTHS & 4 REPLACEMENTS @4 DIFFERENT SHOPS LATEST 2/2019.ALL SHOPS SAID THEY FAILED DUE TO EXTREME OVERHEATING WHICH COULD ALSO CAUSE A FIRE. 3RD SHOP ALSO NOTED 'EXCESSIVE BLOW-BY', SAID IT'S NOT NORMAL FOR A NEW ENGINE WITH 20,000 MILES ON IT -- WHICH MY REPLACEMENT ENGINE SHOULD BE IF IT WAS CORRECTLY REPLACED WITH A NEW PROPERLY FUNCTIONING ENGINE IN 9/2017 (CAR HAD @140K. THEN) ALL 4 HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, TWICE ON HIGHWAY, TWICE ON CITY STREETS. 1ST TIME, OUT OF TOWN, ON HIGHWAY. ALL VERY DANGEROUS SUDDEN LOSS POWER/SPEED AND STALLING. SCARY. VERY STRESSED, NOT KNOWING WHEN & WHERE MAY HAPPEN NEXT, WITH STRONG POSSIBILITY OF ACCIDENT, FIRE, OR BOTH. TRIED TO TALK TO DEALERSHIP ABOUT FAILURES BEING CAUSED BY THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, BUT WITHOUT EVEN CHECKING CAR, THEY SAID IMPOSSIBLE. RESEARCH SHOWS OTHERWISE: (NHTSA ,CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY, A LAWSUIT CASE: 1:18-CV-02716 FILED: 04/16/18 IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF ILLINOIS (NOT MINE), KIA TECH SERVICE BULLETINS... NOW THERE'S A NEW 2/2019 RECALL FOR MY CAR FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PIPE, DUE TO REPLACEMENT ENGINE WORK NOT DONE PROPERLY. & SOUL'S JUST RECALLED FOR CATALYTIC CONV. FAILURE DUE TO OVERHEATING-EVEN THOUGH ENGINES ARE DIFFERENT, I BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD BE LIKEWISE RECALLED.KIA HAS HISTORY OF DENYING WRONG, & THEN VERY SLOWLY DOING EVER EXPANDING RECALLS. I CANT AFFORD TO WAIT. COULDNT AFFORD DEALER PRICES;STILL,4 FAILURES AT INDEP SHOPS COST ME THOUSANDS IN CAT CONV. REPLACEMENTS,TOWING,RENTAL CARS,LOST INCOME, MEALS & LODGING WHEN STRANDED OUT OF TOWN& I'M STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS. I'M REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FROM KIA& A CAR THATS ACTUALLY SAFE.

THE ENGINE BECAME SLUGGISH GOING UPHILL, THEN STARTED NAKING NOISES, AND FINALLY STOPPED. IT COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THE MECHANIC TURNED THE ENGINE OVER WITH A WRENCH, BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THE TROUBLE HAPPENED ON A SECONDARY ROAD.
I AM A LITTLE PERPLEXED WITH YOUR JUDGEMENT CALL KIA...I OWN A 2014 KIA SORENTO THAT'S AS APART OF YOUR ENGINE RECALL...THE CAR 'PASSED' THE TESTS RAN ON IT TO DETERMINE IF A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED, ONLY TO HAVE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY CEASE GOING 50MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN VIRGINIA...I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY ABOUT AN OPEN RECALL ON A FUEL PUMP ISSUE POTENTIALLY CAUSING FIRE...WHILE I WAS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION DUE TO THE NATIONAL NEWS THE ISSUE HAS RECEIVED I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THE SUPPOSED RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE...I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION TO DETERMINE 'IF THEY' THOUGHT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED...SO, LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT YOU WANT ME TO YET AGAIN TRUST PEOPLE THAT TOLD ME MY ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY FINE WHEN IT WASN'T TO NOW TELL ME I DON'T NEED A NEW FUEL PUMP BUT POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE ??? SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS SITUATION ! THE FACT THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO PUT PEOPLES SAFETY AT JEOPARDY IS DISHEARTENING...I HAVE ZERO TRUST THAT IF I AM TOLD THE FUEL PUMP DOESN'T NEED TO BE REPLACED THAT I AM SAFE...YOU NEED A BETTER RESOLUTION AND YOU NEED ONE FAST....
THERE IS A CONSTANT BURNING WIRE/ELECTRICAL SMELL THAT GETS WORSE AFTER IT'S SHUT OFF.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN I75 ACROSSING THE ZILWAUKEE BRIDGE TWO GUYS IN A PICKUP, LATER I CALL MY ANGELS, TRIED TO GET ME TO PULL OVER. NATURALLY MY INSTINCT WAS NO. WHEN I WOULDN'T, THE DRIVER STARTED INCHING OVER TOWARDS MY CAR TO MAKE ME STOP. I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO PUSH. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED ONE GUY JUMPED OUT .. PULLED OPEN MY DOOR AND TOLD ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE, PULLING ME OUT. BY THE TIME WE RAN TOWARDS THEIR PICKUP, THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I WAS LUCKY THEY WERE THERE OR I WOULDN'T BE HERE TO WRITE THIS.

WE BOUGHT OUR CAR IN OCTOBER 2016. DURING OUR TRANSITION FROM NEW YORK TO GEORGIA OUR ENGINE FAILED ON US. MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK IT TO A KIA AUTOBODY SHOP IN GREENVILLE SOUTH CAROLINA. THEY FIXED IT FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO A RECALL ON OUR SPECIFIC YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF OUR CAR. WE THEN PROCEEDED AS USUAL TAKING CARE OF IT GETTING THE STANDARD OIL CHANGE AND CHECK UPS. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR WARNINGS FOR WHAT WOULD HAPPEN FOUR MONTHS AFTER. ON JULY 10, 2018 AT 2:45 PM MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING MY HUSBAND PULLED OVER. THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR. HE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STEPPED OUT A FEW SECONDS AFTER OUR CAR EXPLODED ON HIM. COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS THAT HE, NOR I AND OUR THREE KIDS WERE NOT IN THE CAR. WE REPORTED TO KIA THAT SAME DAY. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM SOME ONE.
VEHICLE DISPLAYS NO WARNING LIGHTS. VEHICLE SUDDENLY CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD AT AN INTERSECTION, AND UPON TRYING TO RE-CRANK, IT MAKES A LOUD KNOCKING AND CLANKING NOISE. COULD ONLY SEMI-OPERATE CAR IN NEUTRAL. CAR WILL ONLY CUT ON FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS AT A TIME. THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE, FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE, BUT ACCORDING TO MY VIN, MY VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL ALTHOUGH OTHERS DO. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE RODS ARE KNOCKING TO A HIGHLY EXTREME LEVEL.
MY 2014 KIA SORRENTO IS NOT BEING RE-CALLED AFTER 403 KIA SORRENTO'S ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE NTSA THINKS YOU SHOULD JUST CARRY A FIRE EXTINGUISTER BUT THAT IS NOT THE ANSWER. I AM NOT SURE THAT I TRUST EVEN A RECALL AT THIS POINT. AS KIA AND THE NTSA ARGUE ABOUT WHOSE TO BLAME MORE CARS ARE BEING EFFECTED. NO PERSON LIFE HAS BEEN TAKEN. IS SOMEONE JUST WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE KILLED TO TAKE NOTICE. YOU SHOULD BE SHAMEFUL. WOULD YOU LET SOMEONE YOU LOVED DRIVE A KIA SORRENTO KNOWING THAT 403 CARS HAVE HAD ENGINE FIRES? I TRAVEL WITH KIDS, I TRAVEL DISTANCES, I TRAVEL AT NIGHT. I AM NOW SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR FEAR OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN. IT IS CAUSING STRESS IN MY LIFE. I WANT SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS, NOW MY DOCUMENTATION IS THE EVENING NEWS WITH LESTER HOLT ON JULY 18, 2018. THERE WAS A SEGMENT ON REGARDING THIS ISSUE. NO RE-CALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BECAUSE NO ONE HAS DECIDED WHOSE FAULT IT IS; A PRETTY POOR EXCUSE. I HAVE CALLED KIA HEADQUARTERS IN IRVINE, CA AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE CEO (XXXX) AND AN WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. PLEASE DO NOT FORCE ME TO MORE PUBLIC DRASTIC MEASURES. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME AND JUST AS I PULLED UP ON MY STREET I AND BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE AND THE SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC, JUST AS I WAS PULLING UP TO MY HOUSE AND ABOUT TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY, A TOW TRUCK DRIVER DRIVING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION STOPPED HIS TRUCK, JUMPED OUT AND STARTED YELLING FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE MY ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. AT THIS TIME I TURNED THE CAR OFF, GRABBED MY THINGS AND JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR. FLAMES WERE COMING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE CREASE IN THE HOOD COVERING THE ENGINE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON FIRE. HE GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER THAT HE HAD IN HIS TRUCK AND PUT OUT THE FIRE.
MY SPOUSE WAS DRIVING HER KIA SORENTO HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED. THE LANE CHANGED FROM 2 LANES TO 1 LANE SO SHE HAD TO MERGE OVER DOING 70MPH. WITH THE LACK OF BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE, SHE HAD TO BRAKE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. WHEN SHE DID MERGE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF. SHE THEN WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART IT AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. SHE THEN CALLED OUR INSURANCE COMPANIES ROADSIDE SERVICE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED TO SEE IF HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT STATED BUT COULD NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE KIA DEALER IN KILLEEN, TEXAS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED US BACK AND INFORMED US THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY WIFE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED. THERE WAS APPARENTLY A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES THAT WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED BY EITHER MAIL OR A PHONE CALL. THIS IS COMPLETELY UN-ACCEPTABLE.

ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING LOST POWER AND LOCKING UP ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED ON THE HWY HAD TO PULL OVER BEFORE IT COMPLETE LOCKED THE ENGINE UP
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ROUGHLY 40 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. WITHIN SECONDS, THERE WAS LOSS OF POWER STEERING AS WELL. CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER, AND ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS IN THE DASH SHOWED UP. TOOK THE CAR TO KIA, WHO ADMITTED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE KIA PAPERWORK NOTED IT WAS REPLACED DUE TO 'SC147'.
MY 2014 KIA SORRENTO EX STARTED LEAKING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL AT 99,000 MILES. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND THE BACK OF MY CAR ARE COVERED IN OIL FROM THE LEAK THAT STARTED WHILE DRIVING. HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT LAST YEAR. IT IS THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. IT WILL BE A $300 REPAIR. WHEN I ASKED IF THIS WAS A NORMAL ISSUE WITH VEHICLES, HE SAID IT WAS NOT. I WENT TO LOOK FOR A RECALL ON THIS ITEM AND FOUND FORUM'S WHERE OTHERS HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT A SIMILAR ISSUE AT LOWER MILEAGE BUT NO RECALL.
ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES IT WILL RESTART AND SOMETIMES IT WON'T.

KIA SORENTO OWNER FOLLOW-UP LETTER ON SAFETY RECALL. *BF UPDATED 09/26/2017*JS
MY CAR STARTING TO BEGIN TO SHOW LACK OF POWER AT FIRST, WHICH I HAD MENTIONED IN ADVANCE IN SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. TWO DAYS BEFORE MY ONE YEAR OF OWNING IT, THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL OUT WHEN I STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS WITHIN THE SAME DAY A OIL LIGHT WARNING FLASHED, AND THE CAR STARTED TO HAVE A KNOCKING NOISE. I WENT AND ADDED TWO QUARTS OF OIL. ONCE THE OIL LIGHT DISAPPEARED BUT THE KNOCKING CONTINUED . I TOOK THE CAR TO MY REGULAR KIA SERVICE PROVIDER THE SAME DAY AND IN THE PROCESS OF GOING THERE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY, THE ATTENDANT TOLD ME THAT HE COULD HEAR THE KNOCKING, WHICH SOUNDED CONCERNING. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK THE NEXT DAY AS INSTRUCTED AND WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP AT END OF DAY. TIME PASSED BY AND IT WAS GETTING LATE TOWARDS CLOSING, SO I CALLED THE SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINES HAD SEIZED AND THAT THE OIL BAY WAS DRY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SOMETHING HAPPEN SO FAST. I HAD NO WARNING OF ANY KIND OF OIL ISSUES UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE, AND I HAD BEEN TAKING THE CAR IN FOR IT'S REGULAR SERVICES. THE CAR WAS IN THE KIA SERVICE SHOP, AND MOVED BY THEM. IT WAS RUNNING WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN BUT I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE ENGINE IS SHOT.
KIA SAFETY RECALL (#17V224) I HAD PREVIOUSLY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA REGARDING AN ENGINE FAILURE. PLEASE SEE COMPLAINT #10993259. THE PURPOSE OF THIS COMPLAINT IS A FOLLOW-UP TO THE PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLIANT. AS YOU ARE AWARE, KIA FAILED TO TIMELY NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS THAT THEIR VEHICLE MAY HAVE AN ENGINE DEFECT. AS YOU WILL SEE FROM MY PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINT, I EXPERIENCED MY FIRST ENGINE FAILURE ON APRIL 1, 2017. BETWEEN APRIL 1ST AND MAY 31ST, I HAD EXPERIENCED THREE TOTAL FAILURES. HOWEVER, AS A RESULT OF THE APRIL 1ST FAILURE, I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT MIDAS. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL RECALL AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE TIMING GEAR AND CLEANED THE ENGINE, BUT INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE WORK. THE COST FOR THESE SERVICES WAS $1,488.50. I ALSO NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TIMING SOLENOIDS (I DID NOT HAVE THIS DONE AT MIDAS AT THE TIME BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY). I PURCHASED THESE AT AUTO ZONE FOR $123.42. THEY WERE INSTALLED BY A DIFFERENT MECHANIC AT THE COST OF $125. ONCE THE INTERIM RECALL INFORMATION WAS DISSEMINATED, IN JUNE, AND ONCE I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE BACK, WHICH WAS JUNE 25TH, AFTER HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED, I FILED A CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT. KIA HAS DENIED PAYMENT BECAUSE THEY STATE THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPLACED AS PER THEIR "LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENTION." I LATER APPEALED AND THE REPRESENTATIVE LEFT ME A VOICE MESSAGE (THAT I STILL POSSESS) WHICH STATES THAT IT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPLACED AND THE WORK WAS NOT DONE BY KIA. PROBLEM: IF I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL AT THE TIME OF FAILURE, WHY AM I BEING PENALIZED FOR THEIR FAULTY ENGINE? ADDITIONALLY, THE REIMBURSEMENT IS NOT UNDER A WARRANTY PROGRAM BUT IT IS FOR A SAFETY RECALL. WHY AM I BEING PENALIZED. KIA NEEDS TO PUT FORTH A GOOD FAITH EFFORT AND MAKE ITS CUSTOMERS WHOLE.
CAR BEGAN RANDOMLY NOT STARTING. NEW BATTERY INSTALLED IN NOVEMBER 2016. REPEATED ISSUE 6 DAYS LATER AND AGAIN 6 DAYS AFTER THAT. REMEMBERING BACK TO FIRST TIME I PUSHED THE START BUTTON TWICE, PUT FOOT ON BRAKE AND PUT CAR IN REVERSE AND BACK INTO PARK. CAR STARTED. FIRST TIME ON A RELATIVELY STEEP DRIVEWAY. ALL OTHER TIMES ON FLAT GROUND. ALL INCIDENCES IN A DRIVEWAY/GARAGE. TOOK TO SOUTHWEST KIA ROUND ROCK (TEXAS) WHERE IT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. REPLACED BRAKE SWITCH SINCE DIAGNOSTICS WAS SHOWING A HISTORY. ALSO FIXED A RECALL ITEM (REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR) WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR. TOOK CAR HOME AND THAT EVENING IT WOULD NOT START. PERFORMED THE WORK AROUND AND IT STARTED. IT HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER 7 DAYS NOW AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE IT. CLAIMED THEY OPENED A TECH LINE BUT WHEN I CALLED KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO OPEN MY OWN FILE CASE I WAS TOLD THEY SHOW NO RECORD OF A TECH LINE BEING OPENED. MY CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE NUMBER IS 12421090. I HAVE NOW EMAILED THE GM, SERVICE MANAGER AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR AFTER HAVING NO COMMUNICATION FROM THEM AT ALL FOR THE LAST WEEK. I AM CONCERNED IT WILL FAIL WHILE DRIVING AND FEAR THE SAFETY ISSUE THIS COULD CAUSE - BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR, ETC.THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IT HAS 40K MILES ON IT AND I'VE OWNED IT FOR 3 YR AND 8 MO.
I RECEIVED A MANUFACTURE RECALL NUMBER SC147 NOTICE FROM KIA. AS OF TODAY 7/3/2017. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPAIR NOTICE FROM KIA FOR THE REPAIRS.
HAD OIL CHANGED ON THURSDAY. WENT ON TRIP ON FRIDAY. ON SATURDAY, THE VEHICLE STARTED ACTING LIKE IT WASN'T GEARING UP GOING UP A HILL. ON SUNDAY, IT WAS LOSING POWER GOING UP HILLS. HAD TO TAKE FOOT OFF EXCELLOATOR AND PAT IT AND THEN HOLD IT DOWN TO GET UP TO 70MPH. USING A LOT OF GAS FROM 25 MILES PER GALLON TO 14 MPG. COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 65 ON THE WAY HOME. TOOK IT TO DEALER. HE SAID OIL WAS 2.5 QRTS LOW EVEN THOUGH I JUST HAD IT CHANGED. THEY CHECKED THE RECALL AND OIL AND GAS FILTERS BUT CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. NOW IT WILL ONLY GO 40 MPH. THEY ARE CONFUSED AND CALLING KIA MASTER MECHANIC. THE RECALL STATES THIS EXACT THING HAPPENING BUT THEY SAY IT IS NOT THE RECALL.
ON APRIL 1ST, THE ENGINE ON MY VEHICLE FAILED. I HAD IT TOWED TO MIDAS FOR REPAIR. THE MECHANICS INFORMED ME OF EXCESSIVE SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE THAT RESULTING IN THE TIMING GEAR AND TIMING SOLENOIDS FAILING. ON APRIL 7TH, I LEARNED THAT KIA WAS RECALLING SPECIFIC MAKES AND MODELS FOR ENGINE FAILURE THROUGH A FRIEND. UPON INVESTIGATION ONLINE, I SAW SEVERAL STORIES PUBLISHED ABOUT THE INFORMATION. SUBSEQUENTLY, I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SINCE PURCHASE, I MOVED OUT OF STATE. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE NEAREST DEALER, WHICH I DID. I HAD EXPECTED A RETURN CALL, BUT NEVER RECEIVED ONE. I ALSO CONTACTED KIA DIRECTLY. THEY INFORMED ME THAT A RECALL NOTICE WOULD BE SENT TO MY HOME THE WEEK OF MAY 19TH (KEEP IN MIND IT IS APRIL 7TH). NONETHELESS, MIDAS REPLACED THE TIMING GEAR AT APPROXIMATE $1,500 AND ANOTHER MECHANIC REPLACED THE SOLENOIDS AT $175 PLUS PARTS. HE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL KIA DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE WAS AN RECALL ON THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE, SHE ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS ONLY A BULLETIN AND TO BRING THE CAR IN TO BE INSPECTED. THE NEXT WEEK, WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A CAR WITH AN 18-WHEELER COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, THE ENGINE FAILED. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN EVER SINCE. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY WERE WORKING WITH KIA BECAUSE I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR, AND THEY ASKED FOR SERVICE RECORDS. I DID EXPLAIN THAT I DID NOT HAVE A COMPLETE RECORD OF OIL CHANGES. SEE ATTACHED EMAIL. I WAS INFORMED TODAY THAT KIA HAS DENIED MY CLAIM. THE DEALER IS ATTEMPTING TO GET THE DISTRICT MANAGER TO PUSH FOR APPROVAL.
I PICKED UP THE CAR ON APRIL 28TH FROM MONROEVILLE KIA FOR SOME WARRANTY WORK ON THE OIL PAN AND TIMING BELT COVER. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, THE CAR STARTED SMOKING AND I COULD SMELL OIL BURNING. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEM. I TURNED AROUND AND STARTED HEADING BACK THERE. I MADE IT ABOUT A MILE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP, I NOTICED FLAMES CREEPING UP BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEYS, AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WITHIN 30 SECONDS OR SO THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD ALREADY STARTED CALLING 911 TO REPORT THE FIRE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP WITHIN 6 MINUTES, BUT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CAR WAS ON THE SIDE OF A MAIN ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED AS PER MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY WERE SENDING AND INVESTIGATOR TO LOOK TO DETERMINE A CAUSE. THE CAR WAS A COMPLETE LOSS, INCLUDING EVERYTHING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS INCLUDED KIDS SPORTS EQUIPMENT, TOYS, CAR SEATS, CLOTHES, BOWLING EQUIPMENT, ETC. THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE IN 3.5 WEEKS IS THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I'M UNSURE IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CURRENT RECALL OF 17V224000 DEALING WITH THE MOTOR AT THIS TIME. I'M AWAITING WORD FROM KIA MOTORS INC. ABOUT ANY INVESTIGATION THEY MAY WANT TO DO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE PROGRESSING FROM THE ENGINE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND RECOMMENDED THAT IT BE TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR SERVICING. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM A MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN OF WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR MONTHS DUE TO THE CONDITION AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I RESTARTED CAR, DROVE IT TO A PEP BOYS, THEY PLUGGED IT IN TO GET THE ERROR CODE FOR WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT BY THAT TIME THE LIGHT HAD GONE OFF SO THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO GET THE CODE. I TOOK IT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM, BUT THE SERVICE PERSON WAS DISMISSIVE. THIS WAS A YEAR AGO, BUT NOW I SEE THAT THERE IS AN IMPENDING RECALL ON THAT MODEL.
ON MAY 5, WHILE DRIVING ON THE 5 FWY, I FELT MY CAR LOOSING POWER AND WHEN I STOP, MY CAR SHUT OFF, I TURN THE CAR ON, HEAR A CLICKING SOUND BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE LEFT LANE EMERGENCY LANE. TOW THE CAR HOME AND WORKED ON THE CAR, FOUND THAT THE ENGINE BEARING GAVE OUT. I CHECK FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS AND FOUND IT WAS ON A RECALL. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND DEALER WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE TO TRYING TO FIX ISSUE. IT WILL COST 8000 DOLLARS TO FIX OUT OF POCKET.
FOR ABOUT A YEAR MY CAR WOULD STALL WHEN I WOULD TURN. IT WOULD HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY. SOMETIMES IT WOULD BE MORE FREQUENT THAN OTHERS. THEN LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF AGAIN AND I HAD TO PULL OVER AND PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART START THE CAR AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
GOT A LETTER FROM KIA STATING THAT THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BEARINGS AND RODS IN THEIR 2012-2014 2.4L GDI MOTORS, THEY ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 120,000 MILES. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE MOTOR SLUNG A ROD AND IS NOW TRASH. TOWED IT TO SONS KIA IN MCDONOUGH, GA, THEY CONFIRMED THEY WERE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY AND KNEW THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IN FACT THERE ARE 9 OTHERS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT WITH BLOWN MOTORS IN FRONT OF MINE AND THEY CAN'T EVEN BUILD THE NEW MOTORS FAST ENOUGH TO MEET THE DEMAND (THEY'RE ON BACK ORDER). THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO PRODUCE RECEIPTS FOR OIL CHANGES, FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT THE CAR. I BOUGHT IT USED AND HAVE ONLY PUT ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON IT (66,000 TOTAL). I CHANGED THE OIL MYSELF AND DIDN'T THINK ABOUT HANGING ONTO THE RECEIPTS. I WAS ABLE TO PRODUCE ONE RECEIPT AND ALL MY BANK STATEMENTS SHOWING WHEN I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND A LOG BOOK OF ALL THE OIL CHANGES, MILEAGE AND DATES. KIA TOLD ME THAT WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH AND DENIED MY CLAIM FOR THE WARRANTY. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE AND GO THROUGH IT TO SEE IF THERE IS SLUG BUILT UP IN THE MOTOR (KNOWING THERE WILL BE DUE TO BAD BEARINGS AND RODS) AND IF THERE IS I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LABOR WHICH WOULD BE ABOUT $500 DOLLARS OR SO. THEY ARE TRYING TO WEASEL THEIR WAY OUT OF FIXING A PROBLEM THEY KNOW THEY CREATED. THEY DON'T CARE THAT THEY ARE SCREWING THEIR CUSTOMERS OVER. THEY KNOW THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE AND NOT ONLY ARE THEY WEASELING OUT OF FIXING IT THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO AVOID A RECALL BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO SWAP EVERY MOTOR FROM 2012-2014. THEY ARE HOPING THAT NO ONE CAN PRODUCE THEIR RECEIPTS SO THEY GET AWAY WITH AS LITTLE DAMAGE TO THEMSELVES AS POSSIBLE. INSTEAD OF DOING THE RIGHT THING AND TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THE PROBLEMS THAT THEY CAUSED. THERE'S A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ALREADY AGAINST KIA ALREADY FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE DESCRIBED WAS PURCHASED BY US 8/10/16. RECEIVED NOTICE FROM KIA ON 8/29/16 THAT ENGINE COULD "FAIL", BASICALLY COME APART. CONCERNED WITH SAFETY OF FAMILY IF WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR IN A REMOTE AREA AND THIS OCCURS WITH HER AND GRANDCHILDREN IN CAR. WHY WOULD THIS NOT BE A RECALL ITEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHY IT WOULD NOT BE A RECALL ITEM. TRYING TO AVOID A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. TOLD TO KEEP PAPERWORK IN GLOVE BOX IF IT HAPPENS.....REALLY? PLEASE HELP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND EMITTED A LOUD TICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS OIL SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE PRESENCE OF SMOKE EMITTED OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT LIFTED THE HOOD AND NOTICED FLAMES NEAR THE MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE DEALER'S FOR WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT IT WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHEN THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE AND PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT POSTED HIGHWAY SPEED, A NOISE DEVELOPED, SEEMED TO COME FROM THE FRONT OF CAR, PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE SOURCE. SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM THE ENGINE, QUIET AT IDLE, MORE LIKE A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN REVING THE ENGINE ABOVE IDLE RPMS. NO CODES OR WARNING LIGHTS VISIBLE ON DASH BROUGHT TO KIA DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS.. WAS TOLD THE COMPLETE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, INTERNAL ENGINE PROBLEM. WILL BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. I TRAVEL BY CAR EXTENSIVELY LONG DISTANCES, FORTUNATE IT DIDN;T HAPPEN ON ONE OF MY TRIPS. THIS HAPPENED WHILE SUMMERING IN MASSACHUSETTS. MY HOME IS IN FLORIDA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD ROAR EXTREMELY LOUD. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A BLOCK IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
ON JANUARY 2014, I BOUGHT A KIA SORENTO, 2014. ON THE SAME DAY I NOTICE A STRANGE NOISE ON THE ENGINE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO MEDINA AUTO IN CAGUAS, PUERTO RICO (DEALER) AND THEY SAID THAT THE NOISE WAS DUE TO THE GDI MOTOR TYPE. I TOOK THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES BACK THE DEALER, WITH THE SAME FEEDBACK. "THE NOISE IS DUE TO THE GDI MOTOR TYPE". MY WIFE TOO THE CAR BACK TO MEDINA AUTO FOR IT FIRST OIL CHANGE AND I AGAIN ASK TO CHECK THE STRANGE NOISE ON THE ENGINE... THEY IMMEDIATELY SAID TO HER THAT THE NOISE WAS BECAUSE THE ENGINE TYPE (GDI). THEY CALL MY WIFE TO PICK THE CAR AS IT WAS READY. I WENT WITH MY WIFE TO THE DEALER TO PICKUP THE CAR, BECAUSE THAT NOISE WAS NOT RIGHT. WHEN I GET TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. THE NOISE IS DUE TO THE GDI ENGINE TYPE. I REQUEST THAT BEFORE I TURN THE CAR ON, A MECH TECHNICIAN BE WITH ME AND THAT HE PERSONALLY CONFIRM THAT THE NOISE WAS THE GDI. WELL THIS TIME THEY FOUND THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS BAD AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED... IF IT WASN'T FOR ME, THAT I PUSH THEM TO RE-INSPECT THE NOISE, MY WIFE COULD IT BE DRIVING THE CAR AND I WONDERING WHAT COULD IT HAPPEN TO HER.. AFTER REQUESTING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE UNIT WITH A NEW CAR AND SINCE I NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES MEDINA AUTO OF THE NOISE, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CAR WITH A NEW UNIT AND ONLY OFFERS TO FIX THE ENGINE. I AM WRITING TO YOU, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I AM LISTENING TO THIS SITUATION WITH THE KIA SORENTO 2014. ANY NOISE FOR THE KIA IN THE ENGINE IS THE GDI... WHAT COULD IT HAPPEN TO MY WIFE AND KIDS IF THE ENGINE STOP RUNNING OR CRANK WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT? THERE IS SOMETHING NOT RIGHT WITH THE KIA SORENTO 2014, AND THE DEALERS AND SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ARE FAILING IN IDENTIFY THE SITUATION THAT COULD POTENTIAL CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT... EVERY NOISE IN THE ENGINE IS THE GDI FOR KIA, THE DEALERS AND SERVICE DEPARTMENTS..... *TR
