The contact owned a 2011 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that, upon reaching her destination and turning the vehicle off, she smelled smoke in the interior of the vehicle. She then observed flames jutting up from underneath the driver's side seat, prompting her to evacuate immediately. Within minutes, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames following what the contact described as an explosion. Local emergency services arrived and were able to extinguish the flames, later determining that faulty vehicle components caused the fire without human intervention. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A fire report was filed. A police report was not filed, but injuries were reported. The contact suffered various minor burns to her hands but did not seek medical attention, choosing instead to attend to her injuries herself at home. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); the VIN was included, and parts were available. However, the contact stated that previous attempts to schedule the vehicle for repair had failed due to parts availability and a months-long waiting list. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and a third-party engineer was sent to examine the vehicle, but a final report had yet to be provided to the contact. The failure mileage was 223,000.
I was approaching a stoplight, applying my brakes ahead of time, got down around 45 mph and then the brakes locked up suddenly and took me across the road into a guardrail. Thankfully no other car was involved. The speed limit is 55 mph on that road and I was still a ways away from the stoplight. I was never notified of the recalls on the vehicle.
Rear brakes failed, had to replace them. This is the 3rd repair not covered by Kia.

ABS LIGHT STAYS ON, HAD BRAKES REPLACED AND LINES CHECKED, ALWAYS HAVE A CONSTANT BURNING SMELL, BUT CAN NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM
THERE IS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING INTO MY CAR, THE FLUID IS COMING FROM THE BRAKE SYSTEM LEAKING DOWN THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND ONTO MY FLOOR MAT. THE CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT, I NOTICED IT THIS MORNING AND I DROVE THE CAR AND THE FLUID LEAKED ON MY SHOE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE WHEELS SUDDENLY LOCKED-UP WITH THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE IF ALL FOUR WHEELS LOCKED-UP OR JUST THE FRONT WHEELS. THE WHEELS RELEASED HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONTACT TRIED TO DRIVE BACK TO HIS RESIDENCE, THE WHEELS LOCKED-UP AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ATLANTA WEST KIA (1301 THORNTON RD, LITHIA SPRINGS, GA 30122, (833)953-0189) WHERE THE MECHANIC PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTED THE FAILURE FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DTC FAULT CODE WAS CLEARED AND SENT THE CONTACT HOME. THE ISSUE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER UNKNOWN DEALER. THE MECHANIC DUPLICATED THE FAILURE AND RETRIEVED A CODE FOR A FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) PRESSURE SENSOR AND ABS UNIT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIRS WERE COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER, THE DEALER RETURNED AND STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A THIRD UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE REMAINED UNREPAIRED. THE MECHANIC WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM AND QUOTED THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS WERE REPLACED EVERY SIX MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HATFIELD KIA LOCATED AT 1455 AUTO MALL DR, COLUMBUS, OH 43228, AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
A FEW MONTHS AGO MY REAR BRAKES SUDDENLY STARTED MAKING NOISE. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLES VERY WELL SO I WAS SURPRISED IT HAPPENED SO SUDDENLY. WHEN I TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD ME THE CALIPERS HAD SLIPPED AND MY BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED REPLACING. I NOTICED A LEAK IN MY GARAGE AS WELL. NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL OR WARNING NOTICE FROM KIA. WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN MY VEHICLE DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THIS UNTIL I WAS LOOKING FOR A RECALL 9N A DIFFERENT ISSUE.
REAR RIGHT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR REPLACED AT 136,000. ASB, BRAKE AND TRACTION LIGHTS ALL ON. WAS DRIVING APPOX 45 MILES PER HOUR ON CITY STREET, NO REASON FOR LOGHTS TO SUDDENLY COME ON. OWNERS MANUAL INDICATED THAT BATTERY SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR LOW CHARGE, NEW BATTERY NOT INDICATED IN THIS SITUATION. HAD REPLACED BRAKES, PADS AND ROTATORS THREE MONTHS PREVIOUSLY. GOT THREE QOUTES AND KIA WAS $250 MORE THAT THE OTHER REPAIR OPTIONS AND THE INDEPENTENT COMPANIES INCLUDED PURCHASING THE SENSOR FROM KIA.
MY REAR CALIPER HAS FAILED SHORTLY AFTER REPLACING ALL 4 ROTARS, AND BRAKE PADS. NOW I AM FACING A RATHER EXPENSIVE BILL THAT I CANNOT AFFORD ON A LIMITTED INCOME AS I AM DISABLED. I AM ALSO LUCKY THAT THIS MALFUNCTION DID NOT CAUSE ME TO CRASH THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED MY GAS MILEAGE HAD SIGNIFICANTLY GONE DOWN, AND THE REAR OR THE VEHICLE WAS DRAGGING, AND I ALSO HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING DRAGGING ON THE GROUND UND ERDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED A GROOVE BEING DUG INTO MY ROTAR BY THE BRAKE PADS LOCKED IN THE ON POSITION.
MY BRAKE LAMP SWITCH/ STOPLIGHT SWITCH APPEARS TO BE FAULTY OR FAILING, AS MY BRAKE LAMPS ARE NOT LIGHTNING UP WHEN I PRESS MY BRAKE PEDAL, NOR WILL MY CAR GO INTO PARK OR REVERSE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IF IT'S WHEN I FIRST CRANK THE CAR, THEN IT WILL NOT GO OUT OF PARK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. ALSO, THE ESC LIGHT AND THE DBC LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS. MY PEDAL/GEAR SHIFTER WON'T MAKE THE CLICKING VIBRATION NOISE THAT CAN EVEN BE FELT IN MY FOOT AND HAND IN ORDER TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO A GEAR OR OUT OF GEAR. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN KIAS AND I DO SEE A RECALL THAT WAS FOR 2006-2011 KIA SORENTO VEHICLES. MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING AS PART OF THE RECALL, BUT I'M HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I CAN BE REAR-ENDED AND EVEN KILLED IN AN MVA WITH NO BRAKE LAMPS. KIA SHOULD COVER THIS REPLACEMENT FOR ME.
THE ABS/TRACTION SENSOR HAS GONE OUT. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND KIA WILL NOT COVER IT OR ISSUE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND HESITATED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE REAR BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND; HOWEVER, THE FRONT BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR SWAY BAR RAN A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE AND GOING IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE LUNGED AND DID NOT MOVE DUE TO THE SHIFTER NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WHILE DRIVING THE TRACTION LIGHT AND DOWN HILL LIGHTS COME ON AND START TO APPLY THE BRAKES ALSO AFTER MAKING A TURN THE TRACTION LIGHTS BLINKS AND THEN APPLIES THE FRONT BRAKES CAUSING THE CAR TO RUMMBLE AND BRAKE PEDDLE TO VIBERATE
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEED WHEN THE BRAKES STARTED COMING ON BY THEMSELVES. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AS THE VEHICLE STOPPED 6 TIMES WITHIN A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FEET. I COULD FEEL THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WORKING AS THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP, THEN THE BRAKES WOULD RELEASE AND I WOULD START MOVING AGAIN ONLY TO HAVE THE BRAKES COME ON BY THEMSELVES AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A SENSOR WAS REPLACED REGARDING THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS WORKED FINE SINCE, BUT ITS ONLY BEEN 5 DAYS SINCE IT WAS REPAIRED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LOUD CLICKING AND GRINDING NOISE EMITTED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SOLENOID SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE BRAKE SOLENOID. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,480.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKES LOCKED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
DRIVING OUT OF PARKING LOT INTO STREET PUT FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND IT STUCK TO FLOOR. ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND ENGINE WAS RUNNING. TRIED PUMPING BRAKE BUT NO GOOD. TRIED GAS PEDAL BUT NO GOOD. TRIED SHIFTING INTO DIFFERENT POSITIONS BUT NO GOOD. ONLY AFTER TURNING CAR OFF AND ON DID BRAKE PEDAL COME BACK. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN STREET OR HIGHWAY WOULD HAVE HAD SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BEFORE ENTERING TRAFFIC. I FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO PUSH WITH VERY LIMITED BRAKING POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED OR A TRAGIC ACCIDENT COULD HAVE TAKEN PLACE. I DROVE CAREFULLY AND WAS ABLE TO GO VERY SLOW AND PULLED INTO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE AND DEATH ISSUE SHOULD FAILURE OCCUR. I AM AWAITING FINAL DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY FEEL THE MOST LIKELY PART IS A BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE OR THE BRAKE BOOSTER. *TR
THIS IS APPROXIMATE FOR THE DATES BUT IF FURTHER PROOF IS NEEDED THEN I AM ON TOP OF IT! NOW MATTER AT HAND...I DROPPED MY 20011 KIA SORENTO BASE XL, AKA MS SILVIA, OFF TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP, ORIGINAL OWNERS OF MS SILVIA, FOR THE 2ND (SECOND) TIME FOR BRAKE ISSUES. 1ST (FIRST) TIME, AROUND 10-12 MS SILVIA GOT NEW CALIPERS AND MASTER CYLINDER AND THE DATE WAS ABOUT 2 (TWO) MTHS BEFORE THIS TIME, WHICH MS SILVIA HAS BEEN IN THE KIA HOSPITAL/SERVICE DEPT SINCE 12-21-12 FOR THE 2ND (SECOND) TIME FOR THE VERY SAME REASON... CALIPERS AND MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED. DEALERSHIP SAYS, "...BAD PARTS...." I AM VERY WORRIED SINCE A RECALL WAS ISSUED THROUGH YOUR ORGANIZATION BACK IN NOV 2010 FOR CALIPERS FOR THIS VERY MAKE, MODEL & YR, THIS WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, BY THE DEALERSHIP, TILL I DID SOME SNOOPING THIS TIME ON MY OWN. AND WOW... ALL I WANT IS A DEPENDABLE & SAFE VEHICLE TO CONDUCT MY LIFE. I AM IN FEAR THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND WONDERING IF OTHERS ARE SUFFERING IN SILENCE AND IF THIS NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED AGAIN...PLEASE HELP ME IN THE MEAN TIME I AM LETTING MY CAR INSURANCE CARRIER KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE ALSO, JUST IN CASE MS SILVIA CAN'T DO WHAT'S REQUIRED OF HER FOR ME ON A DAILY BASES AND MAYBE INVOLVES OTHERS OF INNOCENCE.... I AM SCHEDULED TO PICK UP MS SILVIA UP TODAY...CROSSING MY FINGERS THAT MS SILVIA IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER....HELP PLEASE... *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2011 KIA SORENTO PREOWNED CERTIFIED CAR ON 12/07/2012, THE NEXT EVENING 12/08/2012 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM TOWN AND ABOUT ONE BLOCK BEFORE I GOT TO MY RESIDENCE I HEARD A NOISE LIKE SOMETHING HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. I THEN TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND AS I BEGAN TO COME TO A STOP I REALIZED I HAD NO BRAKES IN TURN HITTING ANOTHER PERSONS CAR THAT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. 911 WAS CALLED BECAUSE MY SON AND MYSELF WERE INJURED, AS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED THE CAR HE FOUND ON THE DRIVERS FRONT WHEEL THAT MOST OF THE BRAKE HAD FALLEN APART, THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW ALSO, LATER ONE OF THE BRAKE PADS WAS FOUND ON THE ROAD NOT FAR FROM MY DRIVEWAY NONE OF THE OTHER MISSING PARTS WERE FOUND. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TALK TO KIA AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE NOR HAVE THEY TRIED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM AFTER A SOLID MONTH. TODAY WHEN I WAS LOOKING UP A PHONE # FOR YET ANOTHER KIA DEPT I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2011 KIA SORENTO FOR THE EXACT SAME THING WITH MY CAR. KIA'S "PREOWNED CERTIFIED" PROGRAM GUARANTEES THAT THE CAR WENT THROUGH A 150 POINT INSPECTION BRAKES BEING A TOP PRIORITY. ALL THEY WILL SAY IS THEY CAN FIX MY SMASHED CAR AND THAT'S IT, I WAS LEAD BELIEVE I WAS BUYING A "CERTIFIED 150 POINT INSPECTED" CAR WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE I WANT WHAT I WAS TOLD I WAS BUYING. THANK YOU *TR

MY BRAKES WILL GO TO THE FLOOR EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, SOMETIME THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING AND I JUST PRESS THE PEDAL TO START THE CAR, OTHER TIME THE CAR IS MOVING ALL I HAVE TO DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM IS PUMP THE BRAKE 1 TIME AND EVERYTHING IS FINE AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE LAST TIME THIS IS THE ANSWER I GOT.(KIA TECHLINE STATES THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE PETAL TO TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR AT TIMES. TECHLINE STATES THAT AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WILL HOLD STILL AND WILL STOP WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THIS IS NORMAL. PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM SEEMS GOOD. I HAVE CALL KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I AM WAITING FOR A REPLY. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
THE INCLINE CONTROL LIGHT & THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON. I WAS PARKING MY VEHICLE ON A FLAT SURFACE AND WHEN THESE LIGHTS WERE ON I WAS UNABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK OR REVERSE. I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I THEN HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE CONTROL AND TRACTION LIGHTS WERE NOT ON AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I MADE THE PURCHASE FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE BRAKE LINE WHERE THERE IS A SHORT IN THE LINE THAT CAUSES THE COMPUTER TO THINK THE BREAK IS NOT PRESSED DOWN ENOUGH, THEREFORE CONFUSING THE COMPUTER INTO THINKING IT SHOULD APPLY THE INCLINE AND TRACTION CONTROL AND PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM BEING PUT IN REVERSE OR PARK. I WAS TOLD THAT BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF WHILE IN NEUTRAL LIKE I DID WILL SOMETIMES RESET THE COMPUTER. I WAS TOLD THERE IS ALSO A LITTLE BOX THAT HAS A VERY SMALL SLIT IN IT AND IF I COULD FIND SOMETHING TO FIT INTO IT THAT WOULD GO DOWN ABOUT 6 INCHES, THAT WOULD ALSO RESET IT. HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF WHAT ONE WOULD USE TO DO THAT WITH. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO NEED TO FIX THIS VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I ASKED IF THIS WOULD EVENTUALLY MESS UP THE DRIVE SHAFT, COMPUTER SYSTEM, OR TRANSMISSION AND WAS ASSURED IT WOULD NOT. *TR
WAS DRIVING ALONG AT ABOUT 35MPH AND NOTICED A VEHICLE TURNING IN FRONT OF ME. I BRAKE TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN AT LEAST. THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY, NO BRAKES, DID NOT STOP VEHICLE. IT WAS LIKE THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM WAS TRYING TO WORK, BUT WORKED FAULTY, ALMOST IN A REVERSE FASHION. I PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL TO NO AVAIL, LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING, BUT NOTHING TO SLIP ON. LONG STORY SHORT I ENDED UP GOING IN THE DITCH TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE VEHICLE. PREVIOUS TO THIS ABOUT 2MONTHS THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT GO INTO THE PARK POSITION, NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED, THANKFULLY I WAS NEAR THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE CONTROLLER AND IT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. FURTHERMORE, WHEN I GO AROUND A CORNER AT A REASONABLE SPEED THE ENGINE KILLS POWER FOR A SPLIT SECOND, AND THE ANTI-SWAY LIGHTS KICK ON. THIS SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A SAFETY CONCERN THAN A SAFETY FIX. I FEEL HAVING 3 SERIOUS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS MERITS FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MODEL OF KIA, BEFORE IT LITERALLY IS KILLED IN ACTION, KIA. I RECENTLY WATCH THE NEWS AND SAW A STUCK ACCELERATOR PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL AS WELL, HOPE YOU WILL TAKE ACTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 35 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT THEN PROCEEDED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,235.
AFTER USING BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, ACCELERATOR HESITATES. NEED TO PUSH GAS PEDAL DOWN SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ACCELERATING (IT BECOMES "DEAD"). HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 6 TIMES IF NOT MORE. REPORTED IT TO DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY ATTRIBUTED IT TO THE FACT THAT IF YOU USE TWO FEET TO DRIVE (LEFT FOOT ON BRAKE - RIGHT ON GAS) AND IF THERE IS A CHANCE THAT LEFT FOOT MAY BE SLIGHTLY TOUCHING BRAKE PEDAL, THEN THE COMPUTER IS "CONFUSED". NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER. SOME PEOPLE DO DRIVE THIS WAY AND THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. IT IS A SAFETY RISK AND A NEAR RISK ON A COUPLE INSTANCES. KIA NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTABLE AND ADDRESS THIS SITUATION. *JS
AFTER THE FIRST DEALER OIL CHANGE I BEGAN GETTING LIFTER NOISE ON ENGINE START UP THAT WOULD LAST FOR MINUTES. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE. DEALER REFUSES TO AKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND NOW I HAVE PUT A NON-OP ON MY BRAND NEW 2011 SORENTO BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. TRIED TO GET THIS RESOLVED WITH A LAWYER AND THE COMPANY REFUSED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO RETAIN A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY TO GET THIS RESOLVED. KIA MOTORS DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WARRANTY. MY CAR WAS IN AND OUT OF DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS WITH AN ARRAY OF PROBLEMS. THE INTERIOR CLOTH AROUND THE REAR HATCH IS COMING APART AND THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR IT AND IT WAS NEVER FIXED. THE LAST DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAVE TO GET "SPECIAL PERMISSION" TO FIX THIS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE BRAKES ARE GETTING VERY SPONGY,AND THEY ARE STILL NOT FIXED. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 70 DAYS ON AND OFF WITH MOST OF MY COMPLAINTS BEING IGNORED. ONE OF MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINTS WAS A GLARE OFF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT BLINDS THE DRIVER ON SUNNY DAYS. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR WHEN I WAS MOMENTARILY BLINDED BY THE "CHROME RINGS" AROUND THE CLUSTER WHILE FLASHED IN THE EYES AS I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS AN "ENGINEERING" PROBLEM. THE BLUETOOTH STILL DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY,AND I AM STILL GETTING WARNING LIGHTS THAT GO ON AND OFF,INCLUDING LOW TIRE PRESSURE (WHEN THE TIRES ARE FINE) AS WELL AS AN EMISSIONS LIGHT AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT . THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND IT IS PARKED BECAUSE OF THEM. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE,AND I SUBMIT THAT THE COMPANY KNOWS A LOT MORE ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS THAN THEY ARE LETTING ON.
BOUGHT NEW 2011 KIA SORENTO IN FEBRUARY AND HAVE 11,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE PUSH TO START TAKING A BIT TO START. IT SEEMS AS IF SOMETIMES IT IS NOT GOING TO START. TOOK IT IN AT 8000 MILES AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BRAKE SENSOR AND THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. JUST GOT THAT FIXED WITH 11,000 MILES ON IT. TOOK KIA IN THIS WEEK FOR A NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEEL BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE THE WHEEL IS GOING TO FALL OFF. PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. SAID KIA WAS WORKING TO RESOLVE ISSUE WITH BRAKE PAD BUT THAT IT WAS SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE AND THAT NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. NOT TO HAPPY ABOUT MY SERVICE NOT GETTING TAKING CARE OF WHEN I TAKE IT IN. APPARENTLY THEY NEED TO JUST REPLACE OUR CARS IF THEY CAN'T FIX IT. I DON'T APPRECIATE BUYING A $27,000 CAR AND BEING TOLD THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON A SOLUTION. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MY NEW KIA ALREADY HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS AND ONLY 11,000 MILES ON IT. *KB
WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL FOR NO APPARENT REASON EVEN THOUGH THE DOWNHILL ASSIST SWITCH IS TURNED OFF, THE CAR STARTS BRAKING BY ITSELF AS IF THE HILL BRAKE ASSIST SWITCH WAS TURNED ON. THIS HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME AND ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH FROM SOMEONE HITTING MY REAR END SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON. *TR
DISCOVERED SEVERAL DAYS AFTER ALMOST HAVING ACCIDENT, KIA WAS EQUIPPED WITH "SMART BRAKE" WITH NO WARNING FROM DEALER . IF YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE LIGHT PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR & BRAKE, YOU CANNOT ACCELERATE AGAIN UNTIL YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT COMPLETELY OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL . I DISCOVERED THIS ABOUT 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE AS I TRIED TO ENTER US 19 A 6 LANE HIGHWAY; LUCKY THERE WAS A CENTER TURN LANE OR I WOULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH A 18 WHEEL SAND TRUCK AND A SURE DEATH . TOOK ME SEVERAL DAYS OF DRIVING VEHICLE TO DIAGNOSIS PROBLEM .. I HAVE DRIVEN APPROX 55 YRS AND NO ACCIDENT SO MY METHOD OF DRIVING USING BOTH FEET HAS PROVEN SAFE FOR ME .. I REPORTED THIS TO KIA OF LAGRANGE, GA. AND ""TRIED TO GET THEM TO NOTE THIS PROBLEM ON SERVICE RECORD " AS I FEEL IT DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE ! I WANT THIS ON RECORD IN THE EVENT THIS SAFETY BRAKE CAUSES ME TO HAVE A ACCIDENT .. AND REST ASSURED I WILL FILE A LEGAL SUIT WHICH I ALSO TOLD THIS DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT
I WAS PARKING MY 2011 KIA SORENTO TO GET TO WORK AND TRIED TO PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE. THE GEAR WOULD NOT GO PAST NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PARK BUT HAD TO KEEP THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY THE MANUAL BRAKES. *TR
ON JAN 12,2011 I WAS COMING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES AND IT FELT LIKE THEY WEREN'T WORKING. THE DRIVEWAY WAS ICE COVERED SO I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE ICY ROADS. THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE CAR WAS SLIDING TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE HILL, I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO TRY TO AVOID GOING OVER THE HILL AND THE TAIL OF THE CAR WENT OVER AND THEN WE ROLLED. IT ROLLED PROBABLY TWICE AND CAME TO REST ON ITS TOP. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT I HAD FELT THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER THE WRECK I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS CAR AND THEN I THOUGHT, MAYBE IT WASN'T MY IMAGINATION AFTER ALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTICED AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN BRAKING SINCE THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,768.
THE BRAKE PEDAL ALWAYS SEEMED TO GO DOWN A LONG DISTANCE WHEN APPYLING, BEFORE THE BRAKES STARTED TO WORK.. I HAD THE DEALER CHECK. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT MORNING, AT HOME, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR!. WITHIN THE NEXT 3 WEEKS, THE DEALER HAD 2 MORE MASTER CYLINDERS AND THE ABS REPLACED. CORPORATE TECH WAS SENT TO CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM. EVERYTHING WAS TO SPEC AND OK. THE BRAKES WORK OK, BUT THAT "SOFT" BRAKE PEDAL FEEL STILL EXISTS.
KIA SORENTO 2011, 2WD 2.4 L ENGINE. THE BRAKES ON TWO OCCASIONS BEGAN TO RUMBLE AND PUSH BACK ON THE FOOT MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO APPLY THE BRAKES. NO CRASH OCCURRED BUT WE WERE TRAVELING AT AROUND 15MPH DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT AND 20MPH IN THE SECOND INCIDENT.
MY 2011 KIA SORENTO EX V6 AWD WAS BROUGHT IN TO A KIA DEALER 15 DAYS AGO TO CHECK ON THE BRAKES, WHICH SEEMED TO HAVE A LONGER THAN NORMAL "PLAY" BEFORE ENGAGING. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP AGREED AND REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. AFTER I BROUGHT IT HOME, THE NEXT MORNING THE PEDAL ALMOST WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! IT SEEMED TO HAVE AIR IN THE SYSTEM AFTER I PUMPED THE PEDAL. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY AGAIN REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. (I PERSONALLY THINK THEY PUT IN A REBUILD KIT THE FIRST TIME). THE MECHANIC TRIED MECHANICAL AND MANUAL METHODS TO GET ALL THE AIR OUT WITH NO SUCCESS. THEY AGAIN REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, AGAIN WITH NO SUCCESS. THEY THEN REPLACED THE ABS MODULE, AGAIN IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE SENDING OUT A KIA ENGINEER TO SEE IF PROBLEM CAN BE RESOLVED. HE WILL ARRIVE MONDAY NOV 8! THE SUV IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH WILL BE A TOTAL OF 21 DAYS! HAVE THERE BEEN ANY OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS PROBLEM? *TR
