2015 Kia Optima Engine Problems

The engine had less than 40K miles on it and a total engine failure occurred due to blown head gasket. They replaced the engine with another used engine and this one started smoking and nearly caught on fire, resulting in another total engine failure. They are now trying to install an engine with an unknown amount of mileage on it as the replacement engine.

May 28,2022 car stalled no warning, car towed to service center found out engine trouble, claim denied by warranty because it was related to a Kia recall,Knock Sensor Detection System, car was towed to Kia Dealership on June 7,2022, where it was confirmed that engine seized do to the recall, had engine replaced and car returned July 9,2022, on July 10,2922 returned car to dealership for engine knocking noise, car repaired tensioner pulley and alternator m, picked car up July15,2022.

My Kia optima has been having engine issues regarding fluid spilling in different components of the vehicle, first started within spark plugs, then in the exhaust camshaft, once I fixed those two issues it's now spilling within my wiring hardness. Dean mccrary of mobile agreed to fix all active recalls on this vehicle on 11/3/2021. They kept my car until 12/4/2021 causing hundreds in rental fees. My car still has an active recall which was issued in may, 2021.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILED. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR INDICATION THAT A COMPLETE FAILURE WAS GOING TO OCCUR. I HAD NO PROPULSION AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES. I OWNED THE VEHICLE AS THE ONLY OWNER (PURCHASED VEHICLE BRAND NEW) FOR ONLY THREE YEARS WHEN FAILURE OCCURRED. NO ONE EXPECTS THEIR VEHICLE TO FAIL IN A THREE YEAR TIME PERIOD FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF FAILURE WAS AROUND 180,000 AND PAST THE WARRENTY. I DRIVE FOR UBER AND PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE FOR UBER. A NEW VEHICLE FAILING IN A THREE YEAR TIME SPAN (FROM TIME OF PURCHASE) BECAUSE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILED IS UNREASONABLE. KIA ISSUED A SOFTWARE UPGRADE ON MY VEHICLE AFTER MY ENGINE FAILED THAT ADDRESSES THE EXACT TYPE OF FAILURE THAT OCCURRED TO MY VEHICLE (INDICATING THAT KIA WAS AWARE THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR PRODUCT.

THIS ISSUE IS VERY WELL KNOW AND WIDESPREAD. THE KIA DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE COULD CATCH FIRE, SHOULD THE ENGINE BLOW. THE DEALERSHIP FELT THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE BUT KIA CORP. DECLINED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, WHICH IS THE ONLY OPTION AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. THE REASON GIVEN WAS THAT THE OIL WAS NOT AT THE RECOMMEND LEVEL. I HAD THE OIL CHANGED LAST SUMMER AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE OIL WAS LOW; NO SERVICE LIGHT OR OIL LEVEL LIGHT. TO AVOID PUTTING MY 6YR. OLD AT RISK, I HAD TO CHOOSE TO PAY $5500 TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED. THIS IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT EFFECTS MY CHILD'S DAY-TO-DAY. I HAVE ALSO COME TO LEARN THAT THE ENGINE INSTALLED IS RE-MANUFACTURED AND ONLY HAS A 12-MONTH WARRANTY. DESPITE KIA'S REASONING, THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE FAR TOO COMMON FOR HYUNDAI/KIA OWNERS, PLUS THEY HAVE ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL FOR OLDER MODELS WITH THE SAME ENGINE. AT THE VERY LEAST, THE RE-MANUFACTURED ENGINES SHOULD CARRY A LONGER WARRANTY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 KIA OPTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND MADE AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO UNIVERSITY KIA (5105 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BLVD, DURHAM, NC 27707) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,673. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

MY CAR IS KNOCKING AND WONT GO OVER LIKE 35MPH WITHOUT SHAKING AND KNOCKING SOUNDS.

My engine starting burning oil and smoking. I literally had to get the oil changed every 2-3 days. When I took the car to kia, they informed me that some engines had been recalled but mine was covered under the recall.

Engine needs replaced. Started to knock, on my way home, just driving on the highway. By the time I got to the shop it was barely driveable.

Takata recall: the engine on my kia optima is making a loud knocking and ticking noise. The vehicle also loses slight power when pressing on the gas pedal. I know there has been numerous complaints from kia owners about the engine making the same noise and they had to have their engines replaced.

The car has been making a sputtering/ticking noise since purchase. I have had it checked at kia twice and they say no issues found. The noise is definitely not normal, but nobody will do anything about it.

This has been a great car until suddenly I saw smoke. Checked my oil & it was low. I added oil.

Oil light warning displayed. Took it to nearest kia dealership next day. Was told there was metal shavings in the oil.

Metal found in engine. Vehicle completely shut off and would not restart. Has to be replaced.

After fueling the vehicle up, and started to head down a busy roadway the engine of my vehicle seized up and would not start again. The only reason both the dealership and manufacturer are giving me its because of the lack of maintenance but the car was bought in to the dealership service department on december 16 2016, and I was told that everything was functioning.

2015 kia optima was out of oil @ 22,000 miles and no indicator light had gone on when it was taken to an oil change. The oil change place was the one that indicated that the vehicle had no oil in it. It started making some rattling noise specially goint uphill so I took it in to kia service department.

My 2015 kia optima has 23000 miles.. I couldn't remember when I had the oil changed,but I was driving on 75 coming from fla. The AC stop working and then shortly after that the car started to slow down.

Engine seized and won’t turn at all

I've had car for not very long and rid bearings now all of a sudden went out and engine is bad at this point and don't understand why my vehicle wouldn't be included in all the different recalls for 2015 optima because it's one of the years of theta 2 engine being recalled and mine says 0 recalls why is that?

My engine recently sustained damage. Although my vehicle’s VIN is listed in the affected recall range, I never received any safety recall notification. I purchased the car in January 2024 while the KSDS recall was still active, yet no one informed me of the recall at the time of sale and I have received no updates since.

Ive had a recall once before got it fix . Few months later it started smoking from exhaust pipes smoke was white . Took it to kia shop they had told me it was a gasket .

The engine seized and is out of commission on 7/16/25.

My engine went out at 100,000 miles I bought the car with 118,000 mi on it I drove it for 3 years and the engine went out need help

Having issues with my engine, it’s throwing the code saying that my glow relay is stuck on and has something to do with the knock sensor, which is on a recall on 2015 Kia Optima, but my VIN number doesn’t seem to be one that’s on the recall list, but my engine is doing the same thing that the other ones are being recalled for.

I was driving home from work when my car started to herk. So I pulled over turned my car off. When I started it again it started to knock and not accelerate.
