2015 Kia Forte Engine Problems

The vehicle began experiencing persistent engine misfires and rough running. Fuel contamination was found in the engine oil, and the spark plugs were fouled with oil and fuel. The catalytic converter has become clogged and failed multiple times due to excess fuel and oil entering the exhaust system.

Engine burning oil and the recall had to do with the engine burning oil and could cause engine fire while driving. It was under the recall list but the dealership said the time frame for the warranty expired it has been inspected by a auto shop and the said it needs a engine because the engine burned oil really fast and there where no warning

I purchased my 2015 Kia Forte5 in May 2024 with just over 50,000 miles. In 2025, I began smelling burning through the air vents while accelerating.

Was just told about recalls for oil leaks and I’m concerned about my daughter driving the car and the engine catching on fire as it seems this has happened to many of the 2015 Kia Forte’s and I haven’t received a recall, but seem to have all the same problems has the people who have had recalls on the same model car.

Driving down the interstate about 70 miles per hour vehicle in motion it started driving different I pulled over to get gas anyways and noticed black soot along both sides of the vehicle it was raining that night I didn't really think too much of it I got home I talked to a mechanic that's a friend and he name several things I decided to google it and saw that my kia forte is on the recall list for the motor causing fires and motor failure

Vehicle experiences engine power loss as low and highway speeds. Engine power loss is accompanied by plume of oil smoke from exhaust, momentary check engine and low oil pressure light. Loss of engine power results in rapid engine deceleration of vehicle until stopped at which point the engine regains power.

I CALLED KIA CUSTOMERS SERVICE AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A KIA DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. $300 LATER, THE KIA MECHANIC REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD COST $10,000 TO GET FIXED. KIA OFFERED US $500 TOWARDS THE REPAIR. THOUSANDS OF OTHER KIA ENGINES HAVE BEEN RECALLED. PLEASE HOLD KIA RESPONSIBLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT!

I was driving and it’s like the engine just gave out, I waited for a while started it back up and was able to make it home safely.I’m not sure what’s wrong with the engine but there are no lights on the dash on (no check engine)

At 85,400 miles just outside of warranty the engine began knocking and the Kia Dealer is saying that the motor is in bearing failure and the engine needs to be replaced. Kia is doing nothing.

I have already filled out one of these forms a couple of years ago. It is absolutely ridiculous that every 2011-2015 Kia Forte engine has been recalled, but mine has not. My engine completely blew up a few years ago.

I want to preface this by saying my car (2015 Kia Forte5 EX) has been burning or leaking oil for a while now and no one I brought it to could ever figure out where. I brought it in for the recall check up a few months ago and they claimed to not find anything either.

The cylinder 3 connecting rod broke and shot a hole through my engine block. It also sucked metal pieces into my turbo and damaged my starter. This is the exact same issue that the 2.0 liter engines have and yet I have to pay out of pocket for my repairs.

I made a former complaint regarding oil consumption. I then brought my kia forte5 in due to catastrophic engine failure & knocking (oil consumption was the symptom). It also had a rattling noise which we suspected may be the cat.

2 MONTHS AGO WE HAD OIL CHANGED, THE VEHICLE WAS 2000 MILES FROM NEEDING NEXT ONE. IT STARTED KNOCKING & WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO MECHANIC, HE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE OIL HAD NOT BEEN CHANGED NEEDED OIL AND HE CLEANED THE ENGINE AND MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS IN WORKING ORDER. NO LEAKS WERE DETECTED. 1000 MILES LATER HEAR A CLANKING SOUND AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT IN THE DRIVEWAY AND CAR SHUT OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND WHEN I LOOKED UNDER HOOD THERE WAS A SPARK. LOOKED TO BE NO OIL PUT IN 2 QUARTS AND LET IT SIT OVER NIGHT. CHECKED OIL AGAIN BEFORE ADDING ANYMORE & LEVELS WERE FINE. MECHANIC SAID ENGINE WAS DONE. THE OIL IS GOING SOMEWHERE & THIS MODEL HAS A TOYOTA ENGINE, SO I THINK SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON. WE HAVE KEPT UP WITH ALL MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE. WE TRAVEL ALL HIGHWAY AND IT DOES HAVE 200,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD HONDAS & TOYOTAS & NO PROBLEMS. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER KIA. WE DID NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED OR REPLACED & WAS TOLD BY KIA THAT THEY DO NOT MAKE THAT ENGINE ANYMORE.

KNOCKING SOUND AT 52,000 MILES WITH REGULAR SERVICE. FIRST WAS TOLD WORN BEARINGS, THEN WAS TOLD LOOSE ROD. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH WITH NO RESOLUTION. CAR WAS IN MOTION, KNOCKING SOUND STARTED AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING, ALSO WOULD STOP SOUND IF NOT ACCELERATING.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THE DEALER'S ASSESSMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.

ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR STARTED MAKING LOUD CLANKING SOUND WHEN DRIVING. COULD NOT ACCELERATE. CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. TOWED CAR TO KIA DEALER AND TECH SAID HE CAN NOT FIND A REASON FOR THE PROBLEM BUT THE INTERNAL PART OF THE ENGINE FAILED

MY ENGINE IS MAKING TERRIBLE NOISES, IT IS FULL OF OIL, REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PRFORMED, OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CONTINIES TO COME ON AND NOE CAR HAS STARTED DIEING AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE

THE CAR KEEPS CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AT FIRST THAT IT WAS THE OIL PUMP. GOT IT IN THE SHOP AND THEY SAID AFTER INSPECTION THAT THE OIL PUMP IS WORKING FINE, BUT IS ONLY PUSHING 1 PSI OF PRESSURE INTO THE ENGINE. THEY SAID THE ENGINE IS SHOT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT CUTS OFF WHEN WE ARE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.

I'VE HAD MY CAR MAINTENANCE DONE REGULARLY. IT ONLY HAS 72K MILES ON IT. I'VE ONLY USED SYNTHETIC OIL. MY CAR STARTED MAKING A TICKING SOUND. AND HAS STALLED OUT ON MY 1 TIME. I TOOK IT FOR ITS ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. (NOTICED THE OIL WAS DIRTY, VERY DIRTY AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THAT BAD) AFTER THE OIL WAS CHANGED, THE TICKING KEPT GETTING LOUDER. BROUGHT IT TO A SHOP. HE TOLD ME DEF INTERNAL. COULD BE A CAM, A CRANK OR SOMETHING ELSE. JUST FOUND OUT TOO THAT WITH OIL CHANGES, DO NOT USE EITH FRAM OR AFTERMARKET FILTERS. I'VE ONLY EVER HAD PLACES USE THE FRAM FILTERS. THERE IS A BLACK FILTER THAT SHOULD BE USED BECAUSE THE OTHERS JUST BLOW OUT FROM THE OIL PRESSURE. THAT WOULD'VE BEEN GOOD TO KNOW.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,698.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KIA OF ALLIANCE (2010 W STATE ST, ALLIANCE, OH 44601), BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER SINCE SEPTEMBER 5, 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,500.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,799.

AT 94,000 MILES, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE MY TOTAL ENGINE REPLACED. IT WAS SLUGGISH TO ACCELERATE, THEN STARTED A RATTLING SOUND, AND I BARELY GOT IT TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP.

BEARINGS IN THE ENGINE WENT BAD AND ENGINE LOCKED UP WITH LESS THAN 45000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS TWO YEARS OLD. IT WAS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ONE MONTH AGO AND THEY REPORTED NO PROBLEMS AT THE TIME. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE ENGINE LOCKED UP.

When the car accelerates from a stop, there is severe valve pinging sound. Kia motors america is aware of the issue, but are not taking any steps to address the issue "as it does not do anything to the car". The noise is very severe on the 2015 forte and it is a defect in the design of the car.

Rod knock in engine, catastrophic failure

Took care to kis for a recall picked it up and got down the street and it died on me brought it back to Kia and was told it was okay just the oil filter took Kia home and changed oil and filter and car kept going dead would restart but the die again after driving for a little bit. The car kept going dead in middle of road interstate turning into lane across from on going traffic very unsafe.

My engine has started knocking and two pistons are not firing correctly. This is a common issue and has possible safety issues connected with it due to having an engine fail while driving.

At 60,000 miles the engine began knocking and recently the engine blew through the bottom and cracked.

Engine malfunctioned while driving vehicle on busy street. There were no engine lights on prior to malfunction. Oil change and routine maintenance was completed.

Engine shuts off while driving

My engine blew up. It should be included in the recall but it says its not for the 2012-2015 kia forte.

Engine Oil over pressure caused my oil filter to explode oil in to my engine compartment. Destroyed my engine as well. My car is not listed in the recall list for cars with this exact same problem.

Car was running great. No issues, had my regular oil changes and check ups. I was driving down the road and a piston rod blew in my engine.

I will be driving my 2015 kia forte and it will automatically shut off. No warning at all. Just thankful that I have not been hit by anyone.

Driving home from work. Engine started to have a ticking sound to it, I was only 5 mins from my house so I figured I'd look at it when I got home. Went to accelerate and my car didn't have the power it used to.

My forte's engine seized at 106,000 miles. As I was driving the engine started making a ticking sound. The engine seized up and I was told they haven't recalled this despite many complaints of this happening to this year and make of kia.

Engine light came on took it to kia they did a tune up and fuel flush car sounded terrible. Told me they couldn't diagnose the problem unless the engine light came on again. I took it back because the sound was worse 3 weeks later.

Mil light wont go off, catalytic converter damage possible, car only 3 years old???
