Owner Complaints (29)
Your brakes completely failed while driving at 40 mph toward a red light — the pedal went soft with no stopping power, then fell to the floor and went stiff. This has happened 4 times in 45 days, and a mechanic found no visible problems with fluid, lines, cylinders, pads, or drums, nor have any warning lights appeared. The issue may require a deeper diagnostic of the brake system's internal components or potential air in the brake lines.

Your vehicle developed a fluid leak, and when you had it inspected, the ABS (anti-lock brake) module failed in an unusual way that matched failures seen in recalled Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Although the dealership acknowledged your car has the same defective component as vehicles covered by a recall, your specific vehicle wasn't included in that recall, so you had to pay thousands of dollars for the repair out of pocket. The fix will likely require the ABS module to be replaced or repaired by a dealership.

My 2014 Kia Forte experienced random stalling/loss of speed. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic multiple times- the crank shaft sensor was replaced, new batteries were put in, and a starter was replaced. When starting the vehicle sometimes it would not turn over or click a few times to start. A ticking noise was noted aswell and relayed to the mechanic-mechanic could not find any issues. The oil light began coming on and off-especially when stopped the light would stay on, when starting to drive if would go off. Took the vehicle to the closest mechanic-the mechanic said he has diagnosed another Kia with the same issue. He said to look up recalls. I found out that my car is experiencing the exact same issues as other Kias listed as NHTSA Recall Number: 20V750- It was diagnosed at a Kia dealer in which they noted the rod is coming lose in the engine and that the whole engine would need to be replaced. When calling Kia I was told I was not going to qualify because I have a 1.8 Liter engine, however the symptoms of the car are identical to the recall listed above. The car needs a whole new engine replacement. I tried multiple times to get my car diagnosed and was told by a few mechanics that nothing was wrong with the car. I do not feel that it is fair that this car is not included in the recall. It is a 2014 Kia Forte, and other 2014 Kia fortes are listed in the recall. The cost of repair is more than what the car is currently valued at. The car has just recently hit 104,000 miles. All the maintenance on the car was routinely taken care of and inspections/emissions have always been up to date.
Husband was attempting to back auto out of driveway and when he put it in reverse, car accelerated on its own and hit the corner of our house. He then put it in drive and the car again accelerated on its own hitting the corner of our garage and then went through the garage door. The car is totaled. I called the Kia dealership where we purchased the used car and they said there was nothing they could do about it. They said I would have to call Kia consumer relations which I have tried numerous times and am put on hold each time for 30-45 minutes. I haven’t been able to reach anyone to talk to. I looked up Kia corporate number and got the same results. I cannot get through to talk to anyone about this matter. The car is a 2014 with 124000 miles on it. We had it at the dealership 1 week prior to this incident to the tune of $1650.00 in repairs and now must pay a $1000.00 deductible to get the garage and house repaired. We no longer had collision or comprehensive insurance on the vehicle due to a recent hailstorm and were paid out by our insurance company for what they thought the car was worth.
The issue had not been resolved, and I am reading countless of reports stating that Kia is picking and choosing who they will help, this is absolutely BS., that NHTSA will not even help with getting Kia to honor their recalls.
I purchased a 2014 Kia Forte on August 24, 2013. On August 26, 2021 I reported an electrical fire in the trunk of my car to the dealership. I was told not to drive the car but to tow it. My car was towed home because the dealership was closed by the time the tow truck arrived. The insurance company totaled the vehicle. I would still have my vehicle if this electrical fire had not occurred. The dealership stands on they sell and maintain the cars only. They performed the regular maintenance on the vehicle. They never noted any electrical issues. After 3 weeks they also said the car was totaled. They referred me to the makers in California. They had not reported the fire to them. After 2 months of going back and forth , Kia corporate determined they can not find what caused the electrical fire. Therefore they are not responsible. It was not declared arson. My car caught fire in the parking lot where I work in southern Louisiana while I was in northern Mississippi on the job. The car was locked and both keys were with me. The wires, the trunk door, the cloth covering over the top of the trunk, and back window burned. Some water bottles, sprite bottles and the empty bag of cat food they were placed on the day before burned. The plastic binders, the bottom of the trunk, and the spare tire space did not burn. It is clear the car had a defect. The fire could have reached the gas tank and caused an explosion. The wires burned causing the fire. The car set itself on fire. Even though the car is under the 10 year, 100,000 mile Waranty. They will not acknowledge the defect, the warranty, or responsibility. I was told by the Kia representative of my claim that they determined the light bulb did not cause the fire so there is nothing they can do. They could not determine what did cause the fire. They said they are not responsible. I believe they knowingly sold vehicles that would catch fire to a clueless public and did nothing to fix the electrical defects.
UNKNOWN My 2014 Kia Forte Ex has been having randon acceleration problems. I just bought it from an O'Brien dealership a couple months ago. It has also caused the breaks to not want to work. I was in an accident due to this and crashed into the car in front of me pretty hard. My infant and boyfriend were in the car. I noticed the cruise control turned itself on right before the crash and I was trying to turn it off. The damage luckily wasnt that bad. But the car keeps driving itself and the brakes not working. This happens almost every time I turn the car on now. The break pads are still brand new, as I and my dad have checked them. I have tried contacting the dealership about it but they haven't got back. This car is unsafe and I will not continue to drive it. There are no warning lights or messages popping up.

The vehicle has spun a rod bearing of the internal engine. It is available for inspection upon request. Engine damage puts driver, passengers and all bystanders at extreme risk. Dealer has confirmed rod knock. Other automotive shop diagnosed spun rod bearing. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. The check engine light came on immediately before failure.
While driving the vehicle in June 2020, the engine started knocking loudly and caused the vehicle to vibrate so I shut off the vehicle. After being towed, the mechanic stated the rod blew through the block and knocked out the starter. The engine needs a full replacement and based on my mechanics review this would not have happened had the 12/2020 recall been conducted more timely. The Kia recall # stated Kia dealership would pick up the vehicle & inspect for free. The dealership has refused to work with me or my mechanic, advised it would not be covered based on being out of warranty and avoids explaining why it isn’t covered or what the actual recall is (they will only state the name of the recall, not why or the details).
Hi. The problem that I am having is that a buy a car that was imported from Florida to Puerto Rico. I verified the vin number and I see that it need to have 2 recall fix. I go to the local Kia dealer and they say that because it was used imported vehicle they cant perform the recall. I want to know if it is any way that Kia can authorize or if they are obligated to fix the vehicle.
THIS HAPPENED BACK IN JUNE OF 2019. I LEFT WORK NORMALLY AND NOT EVEN 2 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, MY CAR STARTED STRUGGLING TO MOVE FORWARD. IT WAS BUCKING AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE, BUT STILL TRYING TO GO FORWARD. THEN SUDDENLY IT STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD TAPPING NOISE, STILL BUCKING AND THEN A LARGE POP AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING SINCE IT DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN A MATTER OF SECONDS. SMOKE STARTED SEEPING OUT OF THE HOOD OF MY CAR. I HAD NO LIGHTS ON IN MY CAR ON MY DASHBOARD. I ALWAYS HAD FREE REGULAR MAINTENANCE(OIL ETC.) DONE AT MY KIA DEALERSHIP. I OBVIOUSLY HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD LOOK AT IT IN THE MORNING. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY, BUT MY ENTIRE ENGINE HAD JUST BLOWN OUT FOR NO REASON. MY CAR WAS ONLY AT 87,000 MILES AND IT WAS JUST TOTALLED. I WASN'T WORRIED INITIALLY BECAUSE I PAID EXTRA FOR THE WARRANTY TO FIX ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS, HOWEVER I CAME TO FIND OUT THE WARRANTY REFUSED TO COVER THE ENTIRE COST TO REPLACE THE PRICE OF A NEW ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE AND ON TOP OF THAT, WHEN THE ENGINE BLEW IT KILLED THE COMPUTER IN MY CAR, AND THE DEALERSHIP ALSO STRONGLY ADVISED I REPLACED SEVERAL OTHER THINGS ON THE VEHICLE. I'D HAVE TO PULL OUT MY RECEIPTS TO GIVE YOU ALL AN EXACT AMOUNT BUT WE PAID AT LEAST $5,000 - $10,000 OUT OF POCKET FOR THE ENGINE AND COMPUTER ALONE. TODAY IS MAY 8TH, 2021, ALMOST 2 YEARS LATER AND I JUST HAPPENED TO BE ON KELLEY BLUE BOOK TRYING TO SEE WHAT I CAN SELL MY GARBAGE KIA FOR. I HAPPENED TO ENTER MY VIN INTO THE RECALL CHECKER AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES, ENGINE RECALL ISSUED LATE 2020. I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY ANYBODY ABOUT THIS AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD SEEMING AS THEY ALREADY BASICALLY STOLE MY MONEY FROM ME 2 YEARS AGO. I AM REALLY HOPING YOU CAN HELP ME RESOLVE THIS AND MORE THAN HAPPY TO PROVIDE ANYTHING YOU NEED.
MY CAR SHAKES WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES//DOESNT DRIVE SMOOTH AT ALL. SOMEHOW THE OIL LEAKS THROUGH THE RINGS IN THE ENGINE AND I CANNOT KEEP OIL IN IT. I REFILL THE WHOLE OIL CONTAINER AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH NOW AND PUT OIL STABILIZER IN IT. IF I GET AN OIL CHANGE, IT IS EMPTY THE NEXT WEEK.
I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WHERE THE EMISSION LEAK IS IN MY CAR. I HAVE ONE AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS A RECALL OR WHERE IT IS AT OR HOW MUCH IT WILL COST THE REPAIR MAY COST. I HAVE 93 THOUSAND MILES AWAY N IT, AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE GAS CAP CHANGE 2 WEEKS AGO ON MY VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS,SO I WON'T BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF. THANK YOU.
GOOD DAY, I OWN A 2014 KIA FORTE EX . THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM GALEANA CHRYSLER JEEP KIA DEALERSHIP LOCATED AT (180 GREYSTONE BLVD. COLUMBIA, SC 29210). THE REASON FOR THIS LETTER IS TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE REGARDING THE KIA FIRE RECALL ARTICLE THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE FORTE MODEL WITHIN THE YEARS SPECIFIED. UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION FROM JT'S KIA DEALERSHIP (THE ABS SYSTEM HAS A LEAKAGE ON THE FIRE WALL SIDE. FOUND THE HECU/ BRAKE MODULE HAS STARTED TO FAIL AND IS LEAKING.) PROOF OF INFORMATION WILL BE IN ATTACHMENTS. THIS 2014 KIA FORTE EX IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DURING THIS TIME WE HOPE YOU TAKE CONSIDERATION IN LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND RISKY FOR MY FAMILY AND I. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS.
MY ANTENNA SHARK FIN FELL OFF MY CAR WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY IT DID NOT HIT A VEHICLE BEHIND ME; HOWEVER, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO SOMEONE ELSE HAD IT HIT THEM OR THEIR WINDSHIELD. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE BEGAN IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. SMOKE WAS NOTICED FIRST AND THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT WHICH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS EXITED AND FLAMES BEGAN CONSUMING THE VEHICLE.
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND GEICO CAN COMMUNICATE THIS. MY VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE ACCIDENT. IN 2018 I TRIED TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE MANUFACTURER CONCERNING THE RECALL.
TAKARA RECALL I WOULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING UNDER THE HOOD AND THEN MY AC STOPPED BLOWING AIR/HEAT FROM THE TWO CENTER VENTS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THOUGHT I SAW FIRE COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THERE WAS MASSIVE SMOKE COMING FROM MY HOOD, SO BAD THAT I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. MY CAR IS TOTALED. *JS
I WAS LEASED THIS CAR WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE AND WITHOUT A TIRE INFLATOR.
I WAS TAKING MY BOYFRIEND TO WORK WHEN I NOTICED A SMELL WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR THE SMELL GOT WORST I WENT TO GO GET MY BOYFRIEND AND WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE CAR IT WAS SMOKING. I HURRIED AND GRABBED THE KIDS OUT IF THE CAR NEXT THING WE KNOW THE FRONT IF THE CAR UNDER THE HOOD CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT WAS ALMOST A BRAND NEW CAR IT HAD ONLY 60,000 MILES ON IT. NO WARNING LIGHTS NOTHING THE FIRE WAS SO BIG LIKE SOMETHING OUT IF A MOVIE. KIA ISN'T EXPLAINING WHY MY CAR WOULD JUST CATCH FIRE OUT OF THE BLUE. IT WAS RUNNING PARKED ON A BUSINESS PARKING LOT
THE CAR MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO HONOR THE ADVERTISED WARRANTY FOR VEHICLE [XXX]. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE 5 SOUTHBOUND. IT EXPERIENCED A KIND OF ROAD HAZARD LIKE A SMALL ROCK SOMEWHERE BETWEEN EXITS 210 AND 205. THE IMPACT WAS MINIMAL AND MADE ONLY A SMALL NOISE AGAINST THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE SO THERE WAS NO REASON TO THINK THE VEHICLE SUFFERED DAMAGE OR NEEDED TO STOP. HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER 3 OR 4 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP IMMEDIATELY ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE BEFORE EXIT 205. THE VEHICLE'S OIL PAN WAS PUNCTURED, AND THE ENGINE OIL WAS DRAINED OUT. THE ENGINE HAD SUFFERED CRITICAL DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A KIA DEALERSHIP IN GLENDALE, CA. REPAIR COSTS WERE QUOTED TO BE $7,332.63. KIA DEEMED THE REPAIRS NON-WARRANTABLE DUE TO THE DAMAGE BEING EXTERNAL. KIA OFFERED GOODWILL ASSISTANCE AT A REDUCED PRICE OF $4532.00. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE COMPLETELY COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE COMPLAINT IS FOR THE AMOUNT OF THE REPAIR DESCRIBED ABOVE ($4532.00). THE COMPLAINT IS AGAINST THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE OIL PAN AND THE ENGINE WHICH BECAME CRITICALLY DAMAGED FROM SUCH A MINIMAL IMPACT. THE COMPLAINT IS ALSO AGAINST THE WARNING SYSTEM OF THE CAR WHICH FAILED TO NOTIFY THE ENGINE OIL LEAKING AT SUCH A HIGH RATE IN A TIMELY MANNER BEFORE THE VEHICLE SUFFERED CRITICAL DAMAGE AND PUT THE PASSEN GEARS AT RISK. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *PM *TR

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD "POP" AND THE SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THANKFULLY, SHE HAD THE VISOR CLOSED UNDERNEATH IT SO THAT THE GLASS DID NOT FALL ON HER. IT DID DO DAMAGE TO THE TRUNK AND OTHER AREAS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AS THE GLASS BLEW OFF THE CAR. WHEN I (HUSBAND) WENT TO KIA AND TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON WHAT HAPPENED HE SAID IT WAS "IMPOSSIBLE" FOR GLASS JUST TO SHATTER WITHOUT BEING STRUCK. AFTER LISTENING TO NEWS REPORTS THROUGH YOUTUBE I DO NOT BELIEVE THE SERVICE PERSON. FROM WHAT I AM HEARING FROM THE MEDIA....THE GLASS ON TOP IS BEING MADE THINNER BECAUSE OF WEIGHT CONCERNS. ALSO, MY BODY SHOP ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE DESIGN OF OUR KIA IS SLOPED AND THE GLASS IS MORE EXPOSED RATHER THAN BEING ON A "FLAT" ROOF DESIGN VEHICLE OF SAY AN OLDER FORD EXPLORER TYPE VEHICLE. IF THE GLASS ON CERTAIN DESIGNED VEHICLES IS MORE EXPOSED BY SLOPING FORWARD THEN ALL THE MORE REASON TO HAVE A GLASS THAT WON'T SHATTER OR THAT IS THICKER. IF THE SLOPED DESIGN MAKES THE GLASS MORE EXPOSED....THEN IT MAY ALSO BE THAT IT ONLY TAKES A VERY SMALL ROCK BEING THROWN BY A VEHICLE IN FRONT TO SHATTER A THINNER GLASS ON A SLOPED DESIGN VEHICLE...AND A ROCK SIZE THAT A DRIVER WOULD NOT NOTICE. THERE WAS A TRUCK IN FRONT OF MY WIFE BUT SHE DID NOT NOTICE ANY ROCK HITTING HER CAR.
I PURCHASED THIS KIA NEW. WITHIN ONE WEEK I NOTICE THERE WERE BUBBLES ON THE SIDE WALL OF 2 OF THE 4, NEXEN CLASSIC PREMERE TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIT POTHOLES. THE CAR HAD BARELY BEEN DRIVEN. THE DEALER WOULD DO NOTHING. ADDITIONALLY, THIS CAR IS ISSUED TO THE PUBLIC WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE OF ANY KIND. AND NO JACK. THERE IS A COMPRESSION PUMP AND SOME TIRE FIX IT TO TEMP PATCH A LEAK. I TOLD THE DEALER WHAT IF THE SIDEWALL BLOWS OUT. CALL ROAD ASSISTANCE. WELL, THE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT. MY DAUGHTER HAD DRIVEN TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE. PARKED THE CAR AND CAME OUT TO FIND THE SIDEWALL BUBBLE HAD RUPTURED. SHE COULD NOT LOCATE THE PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND GOT THE NUMBER BUT THE WAIT WOULD BE AT LEAST AN HOUR. I HANDLED THE SITUATION. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS IS NOT SAFE. THE CAR DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A JACK IN IT! THE SIDEWALL SHREDDED. I PUT A GOODYEAR IN ITS PLACE. HOW THE AUTOMOTIVE COMMUNITY CAN LET THIS TYPE OF PRODUCT OUT ON THE STREET - THIS UNSAFE PRODUCT - IS BEYOND ANY REASON. AND AS I HAVE STATED, I POINTED THIS OUT TO THE DEALER WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF TAKING RECEIPT OF THIS BRAND NEW CAR. I HAVE ANOTHER TIRE WITH A BUBBLE AND THEY DON'T CARE. THE DEALER QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $380 TO HAVE A SPARE TIRE AND JACK KIT FOR MY CAR. WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR THE OEM AND THE CAR COMMUNITY. I DEAL DIRECTLY WITH OEMS. I INTEND TO LITIGATE THIS ISSUE.
I WAS CHANGING THE OIL ON MY CAR AND NOTICED THAT A HOSE BELOW THE CAR BROKE AND WAS LEAKING SOME TYPE OF FLUID. I NOTICED THIS ABOUT 30 MINUTES AGO, BUT THE ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR MUCH LONGER.
WINDSHIELD ON 2010 2014 KIA FORTE SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY WEAK. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE WINDSHIELD TWICE ON THE 2010 FORTE DUE TO SMALL ROCK HITTING WINDSHIELD AND HAVE TO REPLACE 2014 KIA FORTE WINDSHIELD DUE TO SAME PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD. IN COMPARISON MY 2003 COROLLA HAS ENDURED THE SAME DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR MUCH LONGER WITH NO PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD.
I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT WHEN I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT RIGHT NEXT TO ME. I LOOKED AROUND, SAW NOTHING. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC NEAR ME AND NO BRIDGES OR OVERPASSES ANYWHERE NEAR. I THEN HEARD SOMETHING THAT SOUNDED LIKE ROCKS ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND GOT OUT TO LOOK. MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. IT EXPLODED OUTWARD, THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FROM IT BEING HIT FROM ABOVE (AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE HIT ME IN THAT PARTICULAR LOCATION). I DROVE TO KIA AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY REPLACED THE SUNROOF, BUT TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED AND THAT EVEN WITH A TEAM OF ENGINEERS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO TELL WHAT CAUSED THE SPONTANEOUS EXPLOSION. I CALLED THE KIA 800 NUMBER AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR, I HAD BOUGHT IT 3 MONTHS EARLIER AND IT ONLY HAD 5,000 MILES ON IT.
