FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

CERTAIN AFTERMARKET AIRTEX ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR CERTAIN 1997-2004 JEEP WRANGLER; 1997-2001 JEEP CHEROKEE; 1997-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE; AND 2000-2003 DODGE DAKOTA VEHICLES. THE PLASTIC ELECTRICAL GROMMET CONNECTORS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH AUTOMOTIVE FUELS AND MAY DEGRADE CAUSING A POTENTIAL LEAK PATH FOR FUEL.

Fix: AIRTEX WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED FUEL PUMPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AIRTEX CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-880-3056.

Your engine suddenly revved to high RPM and accelerated forward while you were stopped with your foot on the brake. Even when you pressed the brake pedal as hard as you could, the brakes couldn't stop the vehicle from moving. This resulted in a crash. This is a critical safety issue that could indicate a stuck throttle, faulty fuel injector control, or brake system failure.

Your Jeep's fuel tank skid plate has rotted through, which means the protective metal shield underneath your fuel tank is deteriorating. This creates a risk that your fuel tank could fall or separate from the vehicle. The skid plate will likely need to be replaced to properly support and protect the fuel tank.

1997 JEEP WRANGLER TJ SAHARA - FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN TRYING TO FILL UP THE TANK. HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THEN I CAN COUNT. THIS IS DANGEROUS IN THE ASPECT THAT GAS LEAKS ALL OVER THE REAR LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, SPLASHES ON THE TIRE AND POOLS ON THE GROUND. NOT ONLY IS IT DANGEROUS BUT IT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AS WELL. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AS MY RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH JEEP YEARS 97-01 AND UP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 JEEP WRANGLER. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT GASOLINE WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 159,000.
