Your Jeep has experienced multiple serious issues including the engine stalling while driving on the highway, a bent front suspension on the passenger side causing the vehicle to pull left and feel unstable at highway speeds, and engine knock sounds during operation. Your brakes have been slipping with grinding noises, smoking on the highway, and the vehicle won't accelerate past 70 mph. You've also noticed electrical problems with the radio and other components not working, plus a water leak from the dashboard onto the carpet on the passenger side. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45-55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND VIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE BUSHINGS, TIRES, AND STABILIZER BARS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
1-I BOUGHT THE JEEP 4/2008. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER, A WINDOW STOPPED WORKING. I GOT THE REGULATOR FIXED. SOON AFTER THAT, ANOTHER WINDOW STOPPED. I GOT THAT ONE FIXED. EVERY TIME I GET ONE FIXED ANOTHER BREAKS. NOW I HAVE 2 WINDOWS NOT WORKING. 2-WHENEVER I TURN A CORNER, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE WHEELS ARE SCRAPING AGAINST SOMETHING. 3-SOON AFTER I BOUGHT THE JEEP, WHENEVER IT GETS WET AND I TURN CORNERS, THERE IS A SOUND COMING THE FRONT LIKE ITS THE AXLE OR SOMETHING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL PEOPLE/DEALERS AND NO ONE CAN FIND OUT WHY. THEY TEST DRIVE IT AND HEAR IT, LOOK UNDERNEATH AND STILL CANT FIND OUT WHY OR WHERE THE SOUND IS COMING FROM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO HAVE THE FAILURE FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AXLE BROKE DUE TO CORROSION. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT AXLE AND THE TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
2001 JEEP CHEROKEE, THE LEFT REAR WHEEL/TIRE BROKE FREE FROM HUB ROLLING OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF ROAD. UNIT 1 COASTED TO OUTSIDE BERM. *BF ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, 1 OF 5 BOLTS WERE MISSING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT HUB, 1 OF 5 STUD BOLTS WERE MISSING FROM THE RIGHT REAR HUB AND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS BALD AND EXPOSING STEEL BELTS. YESTERDAY 04/14/2009 I WALKED OUT TO MY JEEP TO DISCOVER THE WINDOW WAS DOWN. THOUGHT WOW I DON'T REMEMBER LEAVING MY WINDOW DOWN BECAUSE I HAVE SOUND EQUIPMENT I WOULD HATE TO HAVE STOLEN. THE ENGINE REVVED AT A VERY HIGH RPMS WHEN STARTING. WHEN CHANGING GEARS IT MADE A LOUD CLUNG SOUND AND WANTED TO LUNGE INTO THAT DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER SHIFTED PROPERLY BETWEEN GEARS. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING, AND THEN FINDING THE RIGHT GEAR. IT WAS NOT A SMOOTH TRANSMISSION EITHER. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER 1-1/2 YEARS AGO THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN 15 TIMES. THE DEALERS COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION SENSOR, 02 SENSOR, SUN ROOF, REAR END, AND CD PLAYER. THE HEATER BLEND DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED , WHICH DIDN'T SOUND EXPENSIVE, BUT THE FIX WAS TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE HEATER PLENUM AND REPLACE THE BROKEN DOOR, STOP AND DRIVE ASSEMBLY. COST $890.00. *AK

THE DEALER TOLD HER THE JEEP HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO DEALER AT LEAST THREE TIMES PRIOR TO THE CONTACT'S PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE FOR SAME PROBLEM, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK UPDATED 12/7/2005. SEVERAL FRONT END PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BUT THAT HAS NOT ALLEVIATED THE SHAKING PROBLEM. *NM
PURCHASED A 2001 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT IN NOVEMBER, 2004. IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, I EXPERIENCED A SEVERE SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE; MOST OFTEN AFTER HITTING A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. KEPT HAPPENING, AT SPEEDS OF 35-45 MPH. DIAGNOSED AT BELLE TIRE AS A BAD TRACK BAR.TOOK IIT TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP; TRACK BAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED. SAID PROBLEM WAS FIXED BUT 2 DAYS LATER, WHILE ON FREEWAY (65 MPH) IN RIGHT-HAND LANE, EXTREMELY VIOLENT SHAKING OCCURRED. I BARELY GOT THE CAR TO THE SIDE, BECAUSE THE STEERING WASS UNCONTROLLABLE. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT HAD I BEEN IN ANY BUT THE RIGHT HAND LANE, I WOULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER CAR. I WAS ABLE TO RE-ENTER THE RIGHT HAND LANE BUT KEPT MY SPEED AT 35 MPH AND EXITED IMMEDIATELY. CAR WENT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY SAID IT COULD BE CAUSED BY 10-15 DIFFERENT THINGS AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT WOULD BE TO REPLACE EVERYTHING, STARTING WITH STEERING DAMPNER (NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) BUT HAD NO IDEA IF THAT WOULD FIX IT. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAVE ALREADY SPENT ALMOST $1,000 ON TRYING TO HAVE IT FIXED (INCLUDING NEW TIRES AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT). THE DEALER WAS COMPLETELY INDIFFERENT TO THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DIRECTOR SAID IT WOULD COST ME A LOT OF MONEY TO HAVE EVERYTHING REPLACED, AND EVEN THEN, COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THESE EXPERIENCES, ESPECIALLY THE ONE ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH I WOULD RATE A 10 ON A SCALE OF 1-10 (THE OTHERS RANGING FROM 1-4), HAVE SHAKEN ME TO THE VERY CORE; I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I CAN NEVER AGAIN DRIVE THAT CAR AND FEEL SAFE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR HOW TO FIX IT. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND 38,000 WEBSITES DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM; PREVALENT IN JEEPS. THE PROBLEM IS APTLY DUBBED "DEATH WOBBLE".
HAD PROBLEMS W/ FRONT END SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN I HIT A BUMP, CHANGED LANES OR PUT ON THE BRAKES AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THOUGHT IT WAS A BRAKES OR ALIGNMENT PROBLEM, BUT AFTER HAVING BRAKES REPLACED AND THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED, I RESORTED TO GOING TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. AFTER DEALER REPLICATED THE SYMPTOMS, INFORMED ME OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM LAST YEAR AND THEN REPLACED THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM UNDER WARRANTY. (NOTE: THE CAR HAD 18,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME.) THE SYMPTOMS ARE RETURNING LESS THAN A YEAR LATER. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL.*AK

IT'S BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO SEVERAL DEALERS, UNDERGOING OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS, BUT NOTHING HAS SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. BEGAN AT 18,000 MILES AND CONTINUING NOW AT 58,000 MILES. *JB

THE FRONT TIRES WERE WEARING OUT DUE TO MISALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO START AFTER WARMED UP. *YH

DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE FOUR TIMES, AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO EFFECTIVELY REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
