TRAVELING EAST ON HWY 76 JUST OUTSIDE JULESBURG, CO, MY RIGHT REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT AT 75MPH. TIRE PRESSURES WERE AT 35 PSI ON ALL TIRES BEFORE TRIP A FEW DAYS EARLIER. TIRES HAVE ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THEM AND HAVE ABOUT 45% REMAINING TREAD. BLOWOUT PATTERN WAS A NEAR PERFECT CIRCLE WHERE THE SIDEWALL MEETS THE TREAD AREA OF THE TIRE. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE CONSISTED OF BENT REAR QUARTER PANEL. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY PIECES OF RUBBER WERE NOTICED ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED DUE THERE WERE CHUNKS OF RUBBER FALLING FROM THE THREAD OF ALL FOUR TIRES AND THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON A NORMAL HIGHWAY, A TIRE FAILURE WAS NOTICED. NO WARNING SIGNAL ALERTED THE CONTACT. THE REAR LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT AFTER TREAD SEPARATION AND THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED BODY DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE REAR RIGHT TIRE'S TREAD HAD SEPARATED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE TIRE WAS A DUNLOP P235/70R16.
CONSUMER STATED THAT A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRE 245 75R16 109 BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. THE TIRE HAD A 6 INCH GASH FROM THE RIM ALL THE WAY UP. THE TIRE WAS BEYOND REPAIR. THE MECHANIC REPLACED IT WITH SPARE TIRE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT ANY INDICATION. *AK THREE NEW GOODYEAR TIRES HAD SIDEWALL TREAD SEPARATIONS WITHIN A PERIOD OF LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. ONE RESULTED IN A BLOW OUT AND TWO OF THE TIRES HAD A KNOT ON THE SIDEWALL. REFER TO ODI#10027229. *SCC *JB
AFTER 27,000 MILES, ALL FOUR GOODYEAR, WRANGLER ST TIRES EXHIBIT CRACKS, ADJACENT TO THE RIM FOR THE FULL DISTANCE AROUND EACH TIRE. THE LOCAL GOODYEAR STORE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM AND HAS OFFERED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES ON A PRORATED BASIS. BASED UPON SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE, AND THE POTENTIAL UGLY RESULTS FROM TIRE FAILURE, I AM REGISTERING MY COMPLAINT ALSO. THE TIRE SIZE IS 225/75R16.*AK

B.F. GOODRICH TRAIL A/P P245/70 R16 106S M+S SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. DOT BF9LF93J. THIS IS THE 2ND REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLOWOUT ON THESE TIRES IN 6 MONTHS. THE FIRST OCCURRED 3 MONTHS AGO AT 40 MPH, YESTERDAYS OCCURRED AT 65 MPH. THE UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL STATED THAT WHEN THE FRONT TIRES BLOWOUT, THERE MOST LIKELY WILL BE FATALITIES AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. *JB
THE TIRE LOOKED AS IF IT WAS REMADE OVER AN OLD WHITE WALL THERE WAS A WHITEWALL UNDER THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE THAT FAILED. *AK
SIDEWALL OF TIRE BLEW OUT GOING DOWN A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY. NO TREAD PUNCTURE JUST MASSIVE BLOWOUT OUT TIRE THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED ONLY 5 MONTHS EARLIER. ON SUNDAY CAR AT 45 MPH BEGAN WITH VIOLENT SHAKING AT 45MPH. HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON MON. CALLED CAR DEALER WHO REC TIRES GET CHECKED. (TIRES ARE 2 MONTHS OLD WITH 1-2000MILES). TIRE DEALER FOUND A LEAKING STEERING STABILIZER AND REFERED US BACK TO THE AUTO DEALER WHO REPLACED THE STABILIZER AND NOTED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE BADLY WORN. THEY STATED THAT THE WEAR WAS NOT CAUSED BY BAD STABLIZER BUT BY BAD TIRES. THE TIRE DEALER CLAIMS THE TIRE WEAR WAS CAUSED BY THE STABLIZER. HAD 2 SIDE WALL BLOWOUTS WITH A 3RD TIRE BULGING AT THE SIDE. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE FIRST TIRE BECAUSE NOTHING WAS SUSPECTED TO BE WRONG, THEN THE TIRES KEPT BLOWING OUT AND THE 3RD TIRE WAS CAUGHT BEFORE THE BLOW OUT OCCURRED. GOOD YEAR WAS CONTACTED AND THEY REPLACED 3 TIRES BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE FOR THE FIRST TIRE THAT WE PAID FOR. RIGHT FRONT TIRE SUDDENLY AND INSTANTANEOUSLY LOST ALL AIR PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING INTERSTATE 95 NORTH IN MD APPROACHING DE BORDER. I QUICKLY LOST STEERING AND BRAKING CONTROL, AND WAS NEARLY STRUCK BY A TRACTOR TRAILOR AT FULL SPEED. LUCK ALONE GOT MY WIFE AND I TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE MADE INITIAL CONTACTS WITH THE CAR DEALERSHIP, AND WITH A GOODYEAR TIRE AND RUBBER SERVICE CENTER (REISTERSTOWN, MD). BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND THE GOODYEAR SERVICE CENTER DISPLAYED RELUCTANCE TO REPLACE MY TIRE AT NO CHARGE. LEFT REAR TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION AND SIDEWALL CIRCUMFERENTIAL DISINTEGRATION, WITH LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE SUV. IT WAS DRY ROAD, DAYTIME, OUTSIDE TEMP ABOUT 55F, SPEED ABOUT 42 MPH, AND CAR HAD BEEN MOVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM COLD START. CAR CAREENED SIDE TO SIDE OF 2 LANE MEDIUM SPEED HIGHWAY, FINALLY STOPPING IN ABOUT 1/4-1/3 MILE. REQUIRED EXTREMELY VIGOROUS MUSCLE TO LIMIT LATERAL TRAVEL AND TORQUE ROLL OF VEHICLE. THE SOUND WAS LIKE A HELICOPTER ROTOR CHOP THAT BECAME RAPIDLY LOUDER OVER 5-10 SEC, FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF CONTROL. TIRE INSPECTED BY INSURANCE WHO CERTIFIED THERE WAS NO ROAD HAZARD CAUSE, AND 'HAD NEVER SEEN A TIRE DISINTEGRATE LIKE THIS BEFORE'. TIRES ARE OEM, ORIGINAL, ROTATED PER SCHEDULE, MAINTAINED PRESSURE PER LABELLING. TIRE FAILED WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING TOWED BEHIND MOTOR HOME. AIR PRESSURE HAD BEEN CHECKED THAT MORNING. FAILURE WAS COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION FROM CARCASS. THE TREAD ON ALL THE ORIGINAL FOOUR TIRES ARE BALLED ALL AROUND. I HAVE ROTATED THE TIRES AND THE FRONT END IS IN ALIGNMENT. I CALLED GOODYEAR AND THEY STATED THAT THESE TIRE SHOULD NOT BE ON A JEEP THAT THEY ARE FOR SEDANS. THE TIRE DO HAVE TOURING WRITTEN ON THEM. I ALSO CALLED A NUMBER OF GOODYEAR DEALERS IN THE AREA AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PLACE THESE TIRES ON A JEEP. CHRYSLER STATED THAT THESE TIRE ARE STANDED EQUIPEMENT.
