On two separate occasions, including as recently as Wednesday, February 11, 2026, I narrowly escaped a fatal high-speed collision because this vehicle entered "Engine Protection Mode" while traveling at highway speeds.

Car then looked at by Elizabeth Auto Sales [XXX] and confirmed oil consumption at no fault of my own and metal shavings in oil. Car then towed to #1 Cochran Hyundai Monroeville [XXX] and looked at by Dale.

I noticed my vehicle was burning through oil, initially indicated by a P011 code, when I called Hyundai they said its often a symptom related to low oil pressure. After oil changes, the code would clear, but it returned multiple times, and on two occasions, the dipstick showed no oil when checked.

The oil sensor doesn't illuminate the light on the dash when the oil level becomes low. The only warning is when it becomes really low and then the check engine light will appear. It's a safety concern due to the engine possible failure and or damage may occur at that point if continuing driving happens.

Engine had oil consumption problem. We bought it as second owners around 89k miles. Now at 98k miles and engine has blown.

my mechanic and I noticed that motor oil engine is running out too fast that is normal. I take my SUV to do oil change every 5,000 miles, I can't even wait the 5,000 miles because the oil level is low, he double check for any dripping of oil. my mechanic told me that it is not safe drive the car in low level of oil because it can cause a fire in the engine.

I got it check with the private auto shop and they said it the engine issue so I took it to dealership as it was under the 100,000 power train warranty. The dealership ask me about the invoice of regular oil change invoice which I provided to them but they simply denied it.

On Saturday, November 23rd, while driving down the highway the check engine light came on and the car would not accelerate past 40 MPH. When accelerating from a stop, the car's acceleration is greatly diminished. The car was checked out be a local Hyundai dealership.

The 1.6 motor in this vehicle has the same excessive oil consumption issue just like the 2.0 and 2.4 motors, but is not covered under any recall or class action law suit. On April 30th my cars check engine lite came on while driving on I84 with multiple people in the car, the car slowly started to lose momentum and could no longer accelerate. The next available appointment at the local dealership (MotorWorld, Wilkes-Barre PA) was on May 22nd. It was then confirmed that my knock sensor detection was faulty. It was recently recalled or something along those lines. It was then fixed on May 22nd then returned to me. On May 23rd less than 24hrs later my car was being towed back to the dealership as the check engine light had come back on, code P1326, after having fuel injectors 2 and 3 replaced and the engine cleaned, Hyundai tech line declared my engine needed to be replaced. However, Hyundai is refusing to replace the engine even though it is code P1326 (knock sensor detection) that has called my engine to now become faulty. Replacing the knock sensor has not fixed the problem. It is now July 18th and I still do not have my car back as it is sitting at the dealership, undriveable.

i was driving on the freeway on Nov 22, 2022 when without warning my car went into limp mode. the engine warning light flashed. this puts the driver (and any passengers) at great risk, as the engine is severely limited in its power output. the car will move, but very slowly and acceleration is weak to non-existent. at highway speeds, this situation could have also impacted anyone behind me who came upon my limp vehicle and could not react in time to my slow speed. it has 60,250 miles on it. i drove home, had an initial diagnosis at a local auto repair shop as follows, "removed the (spark) plug and it is badly damaged with oil in cylinder indicating an internal engine problem". i had the car towed on Dec 7, 2022 to the dealer where i purchased the vehicle. the dealer could not look at the vehicle until Feb 17, 2023 when they diagnosed a burnt valve and the engine would have to be replaced. on Feb 21, 2023 i was told that the replacement was awaiting approval and should only take a day or two. it took until May 19, 2023 to approve the engine replacement under warranty. as of this writing (July15, 2023), i am still waiting my turn at the dealership for the engine to be replaced. it appears that i am not alone in this situation of Hyundai/Kia producing bad engines that prematurely fail and then have to fight for a warranty replacement. i have been almost 8 months without my vehicle.

These people have sold me a car that is burning oil and they refuse to honor their settlement made by a class action lawsuit against them to replace the motors that are in fact burning oil. At first they told me that they would seal the oil and for me to drive 1000 miles and return to them so that they can determine if the car was leaking or burning oil. Upon return they did in fact say that it was not leaking and that it was burning oil but it was "not burning as much oil as it should in order to replace the engine". In what world should a car burn oil? This car is too dangerous to drive, the other day the engine shut down as I was driving it on I75 which put my life in danger due to its lack of oil. I have reached out to corporate and unfortunately no resolution. Should I wait until I get into an accident or the engine completely burns down as I am driving it for it to satisfy their requirements to replace the engine?

In the last 3 months I have had my vehicle go into Limp Mode due to a faulty engine. All 3 times while I was on the highway and I was almost seriously injured due to traffic. Ever since I got the Knock Sensor update, I have had nothing but problems. I have had a new catalytic convertor, new spark plugs, oil change, air filter and fuel injector replaced in Dec 2022. The spark plugs are dripping in oil only after 8,000 miles. All of those parts have now failed and I am burning oil at an increased rate. I have contacted Hyundai multiple times and have had case files opened and I have not got any resolution or help. I have spent close to $6,000 on repairs and rental cars and there has still not been any resolution. My engine needs to be replaced due to the recall but no one is helping. I have attached all of the paperwork that has been done.

It has been advised by both Hyundai dealerships that a new engine is required at this point but Hyundai corporation themselves won’t allow the engine repair. This type of car and engine are known for engine replacements around this exact type of engine and amount of mileage on the vehicle. My safety and my sons safety is in jeopardy every time we get in this vehicle as it can go back into limp mode at any given time and if we are driving and it just stalls we are liable to get into an accident. I have to keep taking the vehicle to the shop to have oil replaced and a temporary fix put on it until it just blows as they put it. They are also unable to advise where all the oil keeps going. I shouldn’t be liable for a new engine and it should be replaced by the Hyundai corporation as this happened very shortly after I bought the vehicle, I can be in potential danger when driving, it is a known issue with this type of vehicle and engine, multiple Hyundai dealerships have advised it falls within engine replacement guidelines. I need Hyundai to be responsible for repairing my engine! I have all receipts and documentation from every repair that has been done and every time the vehicle has been taken in.

My wife was driving home. She had taken the highway home when she had suddenly lost power with no warning or indication from the cars dashboard there was no warning lamps or messages explaining why the car lost power and that the car would not turn back on. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the engine was seized up and that the motor needed to be replaced and that the car had no oil in the engine. Which is not possible since the cars Maintenace intervals were maintained. It was also later determined that the oil pan bolt was under tighten due to bad threading on the oil pan and bad oil pan seals. The car will be towed to a dealership for further inspection. This issue presents a possible fire hazard or risk of accident while at high speeds. My wife did suffer a small injury to her forehead after rapid loss of speed from the steering wheel.

Compression test found cylinder 3 @ 58. Found cylinder leakage between cylinder 2 & 3. Engine replacement suggested by dealer. Vehicle has 149990. Dealer also stated engine is warp which is not included in diagnostic statement. Dealer engine replacement cost $12,324.23

Engine (1.6-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder) had a catastrophic failure driving along highway. Engine instantly lost power and stalled. No indicators on instrument cluster prior to engine stall, temperature gauge for coolant indicating nominal conditions. Upon pulling over to the side of the road, check engine & batter indicator lights shown on the instrument cluster. Hyundai's roadside assistance system, Bluelink, did not activate with the engine's stall. It was observed that a mix of antifreeze and oils were dripping behind the engine onto the ground. Dealer later discovered that a piston connection rod had punched through the wall of the engine block. Dealer has submitted issue to Hyundai Corporate. Vehicle is aggressively service with manufacture dealerships according to recommended service intervals with synthetic fluids.

I went to get an oil change on Sept 3, 2022. After that oil change my car went back to normal but started to slow down in speed. On my way home my vehicle stalled. The more I drove the slower it got and loud grind it would make. My vehicle stalling could've caused an accident. My vehicle had a recall done March 21, 2021, which after Sept 7, 2022, I received a letter for a recall for a sensor for my vehicle that was issue per Hyundai website March 31, 2021. Hyundai has been able to confirm the issue. Only thing warning sign I received was my vehicle cut off the day I got the oil change Sept 3, 2022. We thought it may have been my battery.

The oil fuel tank has been burning oil too fast in the GDI Engine & the oil has burnt through my alternator and spark plugs that I recently fixed only three weeks ago. This caused the engine to lock up completely while I was driving several times & I lost control while driving - having to restart the car multiple times to move it to a safe area. Now, the engine has locked permanently and I am unable to start the car at all despite replacing several parts and getting an oil change every 3-5000 miles (which continues to leak too quickly and harm other parts in the car).

Aug 9, 2022 ~1pm. Driving ~60 mph south on highway 18, 30 miles north of Lusk, WY. Heard 30 seconds of slapping noise from engine, follow by oil pressure low light. Accelerator also ceased to function. Pulled to side of road and waited for tow. Towed to Ken Garff Hyundai in Cheyanne, WY. Inspected on Aug 25, 2022 by technician at Ken Garff two weeks after incident. Hyundai authorized engine replacement. Hyundai also stated twice that there was a recall on the car. No recall appears in the NHTSA database. Problem is very similar to Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-727, which includes the 2017 Hyundai Tucson.

The Engine check engine light activated and within a few miles while accelerating from a stop sign the engine had very little power, just missed a colision by cross traffic. Upon inspection the engine had very little engine oil. There was no indication of low oil pressure, and the oil was changed at regular intervals as recommended by Hyundai.

44,000 miles on car. While driving on highway noticed an 18 wheeler three feet behind me, tried to accelerate and nothing happened. Right before the car started making a noise, luckily no one was in the right lane so I coasted to the median.

When accelerating from a stop at very slow speed the engine sputters causing the car to shake and nearly die. Like when someone is first learning to drive a stick shift. It mainly happens when driving in parking lots looking for a space.

The engine feel as if it's going to turn off when coming to a brake or braking softly after the car's been running for about 5 minutes. I've taken it to different dealers and noone finds whats wrong with it. No check engine signs show or repair codes show when checked.

I GET OIL CHANGES QUITE FREQUENTLY DUE TO THE MILEAGE I PUT IN A VEHICLE. I HAVE 7 OIL CHANGES/TIRE ROTATIONS BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2018 AND NOVEMBER 2019. ON NOVEMBER 13TH 2019 MY CHECK ENGINE LIKE CAME ON AND AT THE SAME TIME MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. PRIOR TO THIS I HAD NO INDICATORS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE I AM THE SECOND OWNER. AND THAT IT'S GOING TO COST ABOUT $10,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE WHICH INCLUDES LABOR. DID I MISS SOMETHING HERE. MY CAR IS MY LIVELIHOOD AND I HAVE GOTTEN EVERY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE. THEY SAID MY CAR IS BURNING THROUGH OIL AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THERE WERE ZERO SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK AND EVERYTHING LOOKED FIND OTHER THAN THE VEHICLE HAD NO OIL. WHY DIDN'T MY VEHICLE ALERT ME OF THIS. WHY WASN'T THERE ANY INDICATION UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. WHERE THE HELL DID ALL THE OIL GO?? NOW I'M STUCK WITH A HIGH CAR PAYMENT FOR A VEHICLE I CAN NOT EVEN DRIVE PLUS BECAUSE I NEED MY CAR FOR MY WORK I HAD TO BE LET GO FROM MY JOB. MOTOR KNOCKING WITH ONLY 65,000 MILES. NOT GETTING POWER

THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT OPERATE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE FROM A PARKED POSITION.

MY CAR HAS 20,000 MILES ON IT. 2 MONTHS AGO AROUND 18,000 MILES MY CAR STARTED TO HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION. IT STARTED AS ONLY SOMETIMES. NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT . WHEN IT IS STOPPED AND I PUSH ON THE GAS TO GO IT HESITATES. THE RPMS SHOOT UP TO 5-6 THEN IT GOES. THIS IS DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE CROSSING SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC. ALSO WHEN IN MOTION AND YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE IT WILL HESITATE AS WELL. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS IT'S UNDER WARRANT AND WAS TOLD IT'S THE DCT AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED. AND IT'S NORMAL. I DISAGREE BECAUSE IF IT WAS NORMAL THEN IT WOULD HAVE DONE THIS WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR.

AT TIMES, WHILE DRIVING WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE HESITATES TO ACCELERATE AFTER BEING STOPPED, AS AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WILL START THE VEHICLE MOVING FORWARD 'VERY' SLOWLY FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS, THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF WITH FULL POWER UNTIL ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS LET OFF. WHEN THIS HESITATION OCCURS, THE ENGINE DOES NOT SOUND OR FEEL LIKE IT IS STRAINING, OR MISFIRING AT ALL, IT SEEMS MORE LIKE THE COMPUTER IS NOT SENDING THE ENGINE THE SIGNAL TO REV UP AND GO, HENCE HAVING TO FLOOR IT TO GET IT TO MOVE. THIS CONDITION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, TO THE POINT I AVOID HAVING TO MAKE LEFT TURNS AT TRAFFIC LIGHT INTERSECTIONS, BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO EXHIBIT THIS BEHAVIOR, BUT THIS CAN HAPPEN WHETHER GOING STRAIGHT, OR MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 1,253 MILES AT PRESENT, BUT THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE IT WAS DRIVEN OFF THE LOT NEW.

Oil consumption, will change oil and within weeks I will be down 23 Quarts of oil

Shortly after purchase, I had an oil change and vehicle inspection performed. I was informed that my engine may have an internal defect causing it to burn oil excessively. I later took the vehicle to a AAA-approved Hyundai service center, where they confirmed that the engine is burning oil due to a known manufacturer issue and that it is not the result of owner misuse or neglect.

My 2018 Hyundai Tucson 1.6 Turbo (VIN [XXX] , 113,000 miles) burns oil excessively and was deemed to need full engine and turbo replacement ($15,382.95). Hyundai refuses responsibility (case #XXX). This is a widespread defect that causes potential loss of power while driving.

I took my car in for a daily oil change and inspection, where I learned that there was no oil is in my car after coming in 5k miles before as I have been religious about oil changes. I came in on Saturday September 20th for an inspection and was topped off with 3 quarts of oil but am now back in the shop Monday September 22nd to test the oil. The oil that was checked came out Black.

With some research I’ve found they they do know about the issue in thousands of their vehicles and they are refusing to help anyone. On Sunday July 16 while driving home from Cape Cod to my home in Walpole, my engine stopped working while on the highway in Plymouth, ma. I promptly turned on my hazards and had to get over to the travel lane as I was in the passing lane when this occurs.The oil light was flashing as was the engine light and I had to coast to a gas station. Thankfully the exit was a downhill one

An oil change was done and part of the transmission pan overflowed and then engine failed.

I changed engine oil a month ago and still have 500mile left until re-change, but after when I went shopping the engine sound was bad so I checked the engine oil status and there were no engine oil at all.
