2016 Hyundai Sonata Other Problems

Vehicle started then stalled requiring tow. No initial illumination of warning lamps or messages. Findings upon inspection by independent service center: multiple cylinder misfires (P030100, P030300, P030400, P030200, P030000) and excessive debris buildup on vvt sensor screen.

Vehicle: 2016 Hyundai Sonata VIN: [XXX] While stopped in traffic with my foot firmly on the brake, my vehicle begins to accelerate before I release the brake pedal. This is not normal “creep” — the engine increases RPM and the vehicle moves forward as if the accelerator is being applied, even though it is not. This condition has occurred multiple times and creates a serious safety risk.

This event took place on or about [XXX]. A month or two prior, my vehicle had just undergone a safety inspection with over $2,000.00 worth of repairs that were performed with great care, due to noticing loss of power upon acceleration. I'm currently living in Wyoming, and the engine blew while driving on the highway in Colorado, causing a mild underbody fire while driving at high rate of speed.

1st Incident: The engine lost its acceleration power on the highway, giving a rattling noise. It was identified as misfire in cylinder 3. This was repaired and gaskets and timing chain replaced.

Engine light appeared on my dashboard in late feb 2024. At the same time, there was a noted fluid leak on my parking skirt so I immediately stopped driving it. On [xxx] I had car towed to mike's automative service station in south milwaukee, wisconsin.

I just drove up a small hill and then I had to accelerate to get onto the on-ramp to match the speeds of highway traffic. The engine shut off. no lights from the cluster gauge illuminated.

2016 Hyundai Sonata (not part of any recall) driven short distance on expressway had "check engine light" come on. Pulled off of expressway and checked under hood...No visible issues. Chose to return home via side streets as car was riding rough and having problems with acceleration at that point.

2016 Sonata panoramic sunroof wind defector. The wind deflector separated in 2020 and was repaired under warranty by Hunter Hyundai in Fletcher North Carolina. This issue is a design and manufacturing issue.

My oil seems to be consumed really quickly! I get a full synthetic oil change and then my engine sounds strange and check the oil and there's no more oil in there! This is after less than 1,000 miles after the oil change!

As I was driving the car to a vacation resort, the car caught fire and was completely destroyed. Myself, adult son, and wife were in the car at the time. We were luckly to get out of the car before it blew up and killed us all.

I was driving on the highway and heard a gunshot sound then glass started falling. My sunroof exploded. Hyundai is trying all they could to not cover the issue

On october 26th my husband was driving myself and our 2 children when all of a sudden we went from going 45 miles an hour to stopping and then even after the gas pedal was pushed all the way to the floor we we were going approx 5 miles am hour. Our engine light came on and aftet approx 5 to 10 min we found a place to pull over as there were no pulloffs readily available.

My 2016 hyundai sonata misfire sometimes at starting. Here is a little description. Today june 28 2016 I started my vehicle and noticed it was running a little harder making an unusual sound as I engaged the reverse the vehicle started rolling back slowly and checking like it was going to stall and stop.

Both rear doors on your car won't open because the door locks have stopped working. Additionally, the right rear door window won't roll up or down. This leaves your rear doors inaccessible and the window stuck in its current position.

I had engine issues back in 2021. I had to pay $600 for a part to be installed to fix the problem . The engine failed, the idle was violently lurching forward and would randomly Shut down.

In November, 2022 my car stalled on the expressway. The indicator, Hybrid trouble turn off engine(not exact wording),tried to turn back on after sitting, it came on there was a loud noise as I put it in drive. It was towed to Happy Hyundai ( The car was hit on expressway while waiting on the tow truck).

After cold start, car lost power and has set Check engine light codes P0010,P0011, made appointment with Springfield Huyandi, charged $289.33 for the diagnosis of engine oil sludge causing VVT issues. Huyandi will Not cover under warranty,recommended $1400.00 repair, with no help from Huyandi on repair bill.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a knocking sound, and the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil, and there was a smoke odor detected.

I was driving to work when my car stuttered then reduced power allowed me to pull to shoulder of the road at the same time my check hybrid system light came on with all others on dash. Car would not restart. Had it towed to the dealership where I’m told they will diagnose next week.

Driving down the highway and engine stalls next to semi after safety inspection from dealer. Already took to dealer and told there is nothing they can do.

The problem with my vehicle is a failure of internal engine components, specifically a known defect in the piston rings of the Hyundai Theta II engine. This failure causes excessive oil consumption, which is burned internally. The internal engine components have failed, leading to a widely documented defect in the Hyundai Theta II engine.

Car been burning oil since I got it . I have been taking it back and forth to the dealership they not helping and I’m basically paying a note on a car I can’t even enjoy

My dad gave me his car a little bit ago, and I just learned there is a cap and sensor part in the engine that fills with oil which triggers the check engine light. I nearly got hit because I didn't know the car couldn't accelerate properly when this happens. My neighborhood exits onto the main road at an incline and my car wouldn't move faster than 10 MPH while cars were coming behind me at 45.

The engine violently vibrates and no matter how much I get an oil change it burns so fast and I have to keep adding. It's not leaking, just burning. I plugged in a diagnostic tester and it said that the 3rd cylinder was misfiring.

Wind deflector came loose on highway after recall was performed. The wind deflector was originally reattached in 1996 shortly after purchase. The recall doesn't take into account that the manufacturing issue may of been previously repaired.

The Hyundai service department indicated a OCS Mat in the front passenger seat needs to be repaired. Currently the "seat belt" light remains on when there is no one in the front passenger seat. The "air bag" light on the dash remains on while the Sonata is in use.

My hyaundai is burning through oil every 500-1000 miles it will be completely empty

On 10/06/23, I went to the Meriden Hyundai Dealership to get my transmission and brakes serviced. During the multi-point inspection, the technician noticed that the oil pan had a hair line crack at the drain plug site. I found that peculiar especially since my oil changes have been performed at the same place for the past 5 years. My last oil change was performed on 09/09/23. The technicians never mention any problems. I did not notice any oil leaking. The oil was actually being trapped in the undershield. I have contacted that company and they have conducted an investigation. They do not find any fault with their workmanship. However, something is wrong. I see there are other Hyundai vehicles having trouble with their oil pan and drain plugs.

I just got my car out the shop on April 29th at a Hyundai dealer and on may 2nd was driving on highway my check engine came back on and my speed decreased on its own almost causing a wreck then my car would only go 20mph in a 70 mph zone I have contacted Hyundai they refuse to do anything

Car is consuming an increased amount of oil. PVC valve replaced. 5 quarts of oil after oil change is only lasting about 2.5k miles with oil on dipstick being barely readable requiring 4 quarts to get oil in middle of normal range for vehicle.

My car is burning oil at an excessive rate. I bought this car August 2022 and within the first year I was having to constantly fill up my car with oil to make it through the month. I finally had a claim open for the oil test and at first was told that I do qualify for a new engine and to bring it in for pictures etc to get this going.

I got this car less than a year ago and immediately had issues within the 2nd day of getting it. Called the dealership and they had me take it in to a mechanic who fixed the issues. Since then I have had issues with this car consuming so much oil it's beyond ridiculous.

Still having intermittent turn signal problems after the dealership worked on turn signal recall. Sometimes no signal or signal stays on after turning, even after flipping the turn signal switch off. Sometimes there is a delay (up to 10 seconds) before turn signal lights on.

The sunroof assembly incorporates a wind deflector to help reduce wind noise in the passenger compartment when the sunroof is open. If the wind deflector becomes partially detached from its mounting bracket while the sunroof is open, the deflector can interfere with the closing of the moveable sunroof panel.

In May 2022 after driving approximately 2.5 hours, when I turned off the vehicle and tried to restart, the Hybrid symbol "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM", after waiting approximately 15 minutes to restart and it started. During this trip this happened several more times. I brought it in to a Auto Zone and he could not diagnose because the light was not appearing.

I went to my mechanic today to see why my car was making rattling noises coming from the steering wheel. It's been happening randomly for about a year now or more now. The mechanic said he's seen this over a thousand times with Hyundai, and I need to bring it into Hyundai to fix because something is wrong with the "Steering Rack Support Yoke", which is making the noise.

The hybrid system shuts down while operating, gives warning "Check Hybrid System, Turn off Engine" This has happened twice. Both times the dealership cleared the codes and can't duplicate the issue at their facility. One time this happened while traveling approx 70mph causing the car to immediately decelerate which is a potential safety issue.

I am constantly having my oil light flickering on and off. The engine oil consumption is super high. I take it for service on time, however before the next date it always needs to be added on earlier.

Abnormal knocking noise from engine, vehicle was in motion entering a driveway, we believe this has been the issue for the past 6 months and the dealer could never figure out the problem, stated it was the battery we replaced it, still same issue, now the vehicle sounds like a tractor due to the rod bearings

Vehicle begins to sputter while driving, resulting in engine shutting down. Check engine light turns on. Has happened multiple times while driving on both residential streets and highways.

The check engine light came on with slight hesitation and reduced power during acceleration. Car was on highway with in ten minutes from home from my research indicate this care issue could be caused from hyundai sonata software issue.

While I was entering the freeway trying to merge in the traffic using left signal and depending on my car lane change assistance that failed to detect the car on my left blind zone, forced me to turn away from the car to the right side caused body damage to my car passenger side due to the street guard rails.

While the vehicle is in motion and when I hit the brake. A click noise is always coming when we hit the brake till the end. Always happening observing from past 2 months.

Recall on paint quartz pearl white my car is peeling and chipping I notified hyundai because I know many customers also are having this issue and they will not resolve this issue.

Paint The paint issue with hyundai is ridiculous. I have a 2016 Hyundai sonata. No matter if I’m driving, going through a car wash, or just sitting in the yard.

The blind spot detection system needs alignment. When the blind spot detection fails it disables traction control and anti-lock brakes. The parking sensor and backup sensors should have nothing to do with the antilogue brakes or traction control.

Paint delaminating from the roof of my vehicle. Can cause rust and possibly rust through.

My car burned all the engine oil within 2000 miles of oil change. And the tank is empty. This is the second time that happened

The horn on my car is so quiet, most times I use it nobody hears it, including myself. It's very dangerous for emergency situations where I need to use a horn.

Manufacturer paint is peeling off hood of car. Problem has been confirmed and photographed by Speck Hyundai. Vehicle and component was inspected by manufacturer.

The report is wrong I never hit the SUV from the back aldo both hits on vehicles or on my driver's side and his rare back passenger side. I never did my report since I was in the ambulance the hole time and nver said my part of the story I was in pain and went to sleep

dashboard has a crack running along right side of the cutout for airbag

Please reference Hyundai Recall # 208 - Trunk Latch Release - Emergency Release May Fail. This recall covers 2017-2018 Hyundai Sonata. I have a 2016 Sonata with the exact same malfunction.

Multiple peeling paint issues.

Vehicle is unable to start for about 30 minutes after driving for 60 minutes in any weather condition from very cold to hot. "check hev system" warning comes on when this happens and will not start. Happens after a quick stop while highway driving

My car was broken into on 3/3/2019, not only did my alarm not go off when the window was smashed when I set my alarm on the car and opened the door from the inside the car did not go off. The police officer stated that this is a hazard especially on a newer model vehicle. The police officer even tested out the alarm while they were here and it did not go off.

Engine dying while in motion on the freeway, it has also happen 01/28/2019

Sunroof recall. I gave had a total of three issues with the sunroof of my vehicle. While driving this last time on the highway the wind net popped up and my entire sunroof flew off of my car.
