Dear - NHTSA Vehicle Safety Division, I am writing to formally document my ongoing concern regarding a faulty Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module in my Honda vehicle, which I believe poses a serious safety risk. Despite contacting Honda Corporation on four separate occasions to address this issue, the company has refused to acknowledge or accept responsibility for what appears to be a recurring defect found in several Honda models produced between 2013 and 2018. The vehicle was inspected by a certified technician at a Honda dealership, who confirmed that the braking failure stemmed from a malfunction of the ABS module. The technician also acknowledged that this issue is common in Hondas from the aforementioned model years. I relayed this information to Honda directly, along with my willingness to cover part of the repair cost, but was offered no resolution or goodwill support. The replacement part alone is quoted at over $3,100—an unacceptable burden for what appears to be a known issue. As a loyal Honda customer who has purchased five Honda vehicles over the years, I am extremely disappointed in the lack of accountability and response from both the dealership and American Honda Motor Co. This is my first experience encountering this level of disregard from a brand I once trusted for quality and dependability. Unfortunately, Honda’s approach to this problem no longer reflects the reliability and professionalism customers have come to expect. I am submitting this statement in support of any formal investigation into systemic safety concerns regarding ABS modules in affected Honda vehicles. I have a Honda accord ex sedan then driving in the rain and down pouring the car lights would flicker like no power to drive. When I stop it goes off. This has happen to me 2 times. I seen there might of been a recall on my car so I thought I would check to see. I have a [XXX] son always like to make sure I don't have an issue. 2013 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE FAILED TO START AFTER PUSHING THE AUTO START BUTTON. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY ALMOST $700 TO REPLACE RELAY BOX IN THE VEHICLE.
Ever since I bought the vehicle, there are times when I cold start that the vehicle moves slowly. And pressing the gas moves the car at 1/10th the power that I am used to. Not every time, but particularly pronounced when cold. Once it warms up and this low power goes away.
Valve cover gasket leaked oil on starter which caused the starter to fail.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that on several occasions while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. The contact stated that the engine intermittently turned over and then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic however, the cause of the failure could not be determined due to no warning lights being illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.
Factory specification states engine capacity for engine oil is 4.4 quarts, but after replacing the oil 3 times in the 10 months I have owned the car, I have noticed the actual capacity is 5.2 quarts. At 4.4 quarts, dip stick indicates oil at below lowest mark, at 5.2 quarts, it shows right at upper mark. I have google search this fact and there are many other owners or mechanics that have stated this fact. This has caused VTC actuator to be deficient of oil lubricant and rattle loudly and eventually fail. Over all oil deficiency will cause engine to fail prematurely.
starter needed to be replaced at around 84000 miles
Engine burns oil excessively. Following the maintenance minder oil change schedule, the oil was under the minimum. Car was at around 83000 miles. Since within 5 year dealership asked to do a oil consumption test but car would be out of 5 yr window by end of it. Eventually this issue led to catalytic converter needed to be changed at 98500 miles due to the buildup from burning oil
At about 40k miles since I purchased my 2013 Accord Sport 6 speed MT new, there has been premature starter failure causing me to replace the starter. In addition, the 2.4 L Earth Dreams engine consumes a quart of oil every approximately 1000 miles. I have had honda's in the past and never had to do this on a fairly new car. I also changed my PCV valve thinking it may be faulty. After doing so, I have the same issue. I even complained to Honda several times and expressed my frustration. At about 50% oil life remaining, and if the engine oil is not topped off, the dip stick to check the engine oil will be bone dry. I hope NHTSA will look into the Earth Dreams engine. It is time to force a Honda recall on all Earth Dreams engine before premature engine failure starts happening and Honda blaming customers for not properly maintaining the engine when it is a faulty engine to begin with.
The 9th generation Honda Accord seemed to have a common issue with premature starter failure and excessive engine oil consumption. My starter failed at around 40k miles. I then noticed after a fresh oil change, and with 70% oil life remaining, my engine is bone dry with no oil and the only reason I checked was because of a low pressure warning light. I have complained to honda that this is not normal. There are no leaks whatsoever. To prevent engine damage, I have to fill in a quart of engine oil for every 1500 miles of driving. I have owned several honda's and never once had any issues like this. I even changed the pcv valve and that did not fix the issue. Honda knows about the excessive oil consumption and refused to issue a recall to replace the piston rings. Almost every 9th generation Honda Accord owner faces premature starter failure and excessive oil consumption. This is not normal and Honda is avoiding this issue and give customers like me the run around to perform compression test etc and adding engine oil for every 1000 miles of driving is normal. I have never heard of such thing unless you drive a high performance vehicle. I hope NHTSA will investigate and force Honda to issue a recall and compensate owners who had to pay out of pocket for premature starter failures.
ENGINE CONTINUES TO BURN OIL INTERNALLY. HONDA DEALER TELLS ME THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT ACURA HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE. OIL FAN HUMMING, ENGINE OVERHEATING. PARKED BEFORE ENGINE LOCKED UP.
THESE 2013 EARTH DREAMS HONDA ENGINES NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH BAD PISTON RINGS IN THIS ENGINES THAT CAUSE OVER EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, WHICH CAN LEAD UP TO ENGINE SEIZURE. HONDA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE WHICH IS AFFECTING MANY 2013 OWNERS. MECHANICS HAVE MADE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE STATING THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE OPEN AN INVESTIGATION TO GET THESE ENGINES RECALLED SO PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO SPEND UPWARDS OF 5000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THEIR ENGINES WHEN THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED BY HONDA. YOU NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THESE ENGINES.

WHEN I START TO TAKE OFF THE CAR STALLS OUR ON ME FOR LIKE 3 OR 4 SECONDS, IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK A LOT OF TIMES AND MY 2013 HONDA PILOT DOES THE SAME THING
I OWN A 2013 HONDA ACCORD SPORT, 4 CYLINDER EARTH DREAMS ENGINE WITH 65000 MILES ON IT. THERE IS A VERY KNOWN ISSUE WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND OIL BURNING IN THESE EARTH DREAMS ENGINES. THE PISTON RINGS ARE FAULTY CAUSING OIL TO BE BURNED IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. HONDA HAD A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE IN 2008-2012 AND THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING IN MY VEHICLE. PROLONGED OIL CONSUMPTION CAN SEIZE THE ENGINE DUE TO NO OIL BEING LEFT IN THE ENGINE TO LUBRICATE IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP AS THIS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE HAS NEVER BEEN RECTIFIED. THIS ENGINE IS BURNING 4 QUARTS OF OIL IN 2500 MILES..THERE IS BLACK SOOT AND THE END OF THE TAILPIPE, WHICH IS A CLEAR INDICATION OF OIL BURNING. HONDA BEEDA TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH A RECALL TO REPLACE STUCK OR WORN PISTON OIL RINGS. REPAIRS FOR THIS ISSUE ARE OVER 3000 DOLLARS. ENGINE IS MAKING GRINDING/SCREECHING NOISE WHEN THE CAR STARTS, EVERY SINGLE TIME. THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS JUST 65,000. HONDA DEALERSHIP DOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS. NO RECALL YET.
MY HONDA ACCORD 2013 HAS A BURNING OIL ISSUE. FOR EVERY 3,000MILES, MY DIPSTICK WILL ONLY HAVE 1/2 OR 1/4 FROM THE ORIGINAL TOP LEVEL. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM LAST SEPTEMBER 2018 WHEN I TO A ROAD TRIP IN FRESNO. WHEN I CHECKED MY DIPSTICK, IT HARDLY HAD ANY OIL ON THE SUPPOSED LEVEL. I DROPPED BY A GAS STATION AND POURED 1QUART OF OIL AND THE OIL LEVEL WENT UP TO 1/2 OF THE DIPSTICK. IF I DID NOT PUT OIL, THEN MY CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN RUNNING WITHOUT ANY OIL AND COULD JUST STOP ANY MOMENT I WAS DRIVING. I INFORMED CENTURY HONDA ON 12/01/2018 ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT. AS OF TODAY, IT APPEARS CENTURY HONDA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
CAR HAS 52000 MILES AND CAR IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IN THE 2013 ACCORD EARTH DREAMS ENGINES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. THE 2008-2012 ACCORD ENGINES HAD A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND I BELIEVE ANOTHER ONE IS WARRANTED FOR THE 9TH GEN 2014-2017 ACCORD 2.4L MODELS..I AM LOSING ABOUT 1QT OF OIL PER 1000 MILES. THESE HONDA ENGINES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THE OWNERS NEED HELP.

I WENT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP TWICE TO CHECK MY CAR AND DEALERSHIP SAY NO ISSUE AND I DID TWO ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST FIRST TIME IN 64008 MILE ON 05/26/18 AND THE SECOND TIME IN 71689 MILE ON 01/03/19 AND ALL PASSED AND DEALERSHIP SAY NO ISSUE. AFTER SERVICE AT HONDA SERVICE STATION AT ROSENBERG, TX... I HAD ISSUES WITH THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE FRONT OF THE GRILL, ALSO A CODE SHOWED UP 2 DAYS LATER, ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT... WHEN SCANNED IT WAS "P0420"... WAS WONDERING IF, THE MECHANICS WHILE CLEANING, USED WATER UNDER PRESSURE TO CLEAN, AND DURING THE CLEANING, DID THEY FLOOD MY EXHAUST... "CREATING BUSINESS?""
ALONG SEVERAL OTHERS, I BEGAN HAVING THE INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS ON MY 2013 2.4 L ACCORD AT AROUND 60,000 MILES. THIS TYPE OF STARTER USES A SOLENOID TO MOVE THE STARTER MOTOR'S PINION GEAR FORWARD TO MESH WITH THE FLYWHEEL'S RING GEAR WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY PULLING THE PLUNGER AND ITS COPPER CONTACT DISC ONTO THE BATTERY CONTACT AND THE STARTER MOTOR CONTACT TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT FROM THE BATTERY TO THE STARTER MOTOR. WHEN FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, TURNING THE IGNITION KEY OR STARTER BUTTON SHOULD MESH STARTER'S PINION GEAR WITH THE FLYWHEEL AND TURN THE STARTER MOTOR TO CRANK THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM WITH THESE STARTERS IS THAT THE BATTERY-SIDE CONTACT AND THE BATTERY-SIDE OF THE PLUNGER CONTACT ERODE EXCESSIVELY DUE TO ARCING AND CONSEQUENT PITTING. THIS INTERMITTENTLY PREVENTS THE PLUNGER'S CONTACT FROM CONTACTING THE BATTERY-SIDE CONTACT TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND STARTER MOTOR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE PINION GEAR MESHES WITH THE FLYWHEEL BUT THE STARTER MOTOR DOESN'T TURN. NOTE THAT THE PINION GEAR ENGAGING AND DISENGAGING THE FLYWHEEL IS THE CLICKING SOUND HEARD FROM UNDER THE CAR DURING A FAILED START. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY REPLACING THE CONTACTS WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN HONDA BRUSH HOLDER (HONDA PART NUMBER: 31210-5A2-A01) WHICH COST ME $45 AT MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER. I BELIEVE 2013 THROUGH 2017 2.4 L ACCORDS USE THIS PART WHICH SUGGESTS THAT THEY WILL, OR ARE, EXPERIENCING THE INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM. ONE WOULD THINK HONDA WOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

HONDA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTERS PROBLEM. THE CAR WILL NOT START (MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE) OR AS THEY PUT IT IN THE TSB STARTER GRINDS. THERE IS PROBABLY ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTERS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT ISSUE A RECALL

VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THIS HAS NOW DAMAGED OTHER VEHICLE PARTS LIKE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
STARTER IS BAD WILL NOT START BROUGHT CAR TO A MECHANIC. HE RECOMMENDED ME TO GET A NEW STARTER. CHECKED BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WELL WITHIN WORKING PARAMETERS.

HAD TO REPLACE THE STARTER AS IT STARTED GOING OUT WITH JUST OVER 51,000 MILES ON THE CAR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START ENGINE OF PARKED VEHICLE, NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN KEY WAS TURNED. TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START CAR EACH TIME. STARTER HAD FAILED AND WAS REPLACED.
WHEN STARTING THE CAR WITH THE PUSH BUTTON, ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME THE ENGINE DOES NOT START, THERE IS A NOISE LIKE STATIC. LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2013 ACCORD. 99.9% OF THE TIME THEY HAVE TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE STARTER AT $800. HONDA SHOULD STEP UP AND RESOLVE THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE THE CAR DOES NOT START. THIS REALLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
SINCE LAST FALL, ENGINE DOES START ONLY AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES OF PUSHING THE BUTTON. LATELY WE NEED A LOT MORE TRIES BEFORE STARTING THE CAR. BASED ON THE SYMPTOMS ON FILE, IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS THE STARTER.
AT 5 YEARS OLD MY HONDA ACCORD WILL NOW ONLY START ON THE FIRST TIME ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. THIS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND RADIO ALL POWER ON BUT THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER. SOMETIMES IT TAKES ME SEVERAL TIMES/MINUTES TO START. I HAD TO CHANGE MY BATTERY $176 & NOW THE KEY FOBS TOO AND THIS STILL OCCURRED. THIS HAS 411,000 RESULTS IF GOOGLED. THIS IS VERY COMMON ALTHOUGH HONDA CONTINUES TO NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS!
I HAVE BEEN MONITERING MY OIL LEVEL CONSUMPTION AND FOR ABOUT 3 DIFFERENT OIL CHANGES (6200-6400 MILE INTERVALS). MY DASH SHOWS 40% OIL LIFE REMAINING BUT WHEN I CHECK THE DIPSTICK THERE IS NO OIL ON IT AT ALL. IT'S BONE DRY. TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THERE ARE NO SIGNS OR LEAKS EITHER. THE CAR IS BURNING THROUGH 5 QUARTS OF OIL. WHEN ASKED HONDA THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS IN ANY OTHER CAR OR MY OF OTHER HONDA. AND THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT DOESN'T EVEN COME ON UNTIL I APPLY THE BRAKES HARDER THAN USUAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK OIL AND ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
SINCE I HAD THE CAR WHEN I PUSHED THE START BUTTON THE CAR MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND WOULD NOT START. I FIGURED IT WAS THE STARTER AND DEALT WITH IT. I RECENTLY HAD MY BRAKES FIXED AND THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE FLY WHEEL. I LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. THERE IF OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE PART. THE SERVICE BULLITN WAS ISSUED IN 2013 SO MY CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT 2 2013 HONDAS I'M HOPING HONDA WILL TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE. VTC HAS BEEN REPLACED AND IS BAD AGAIN, NO FIX FROM HONDA THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON 2 YEARS NOW AND CANT GET ANY ANSWERS TO HAVE THE ISSUE RESOLVED. BEING PUT OFF MONTHLY AS THE ENGINE GETS LOUDER BY THE WEEK
STARTER FAILED, AND WE WERE STRANDED AT THE NEW MARKET POST OFFICE FOR AN HOUR. THE BATTERY IS GOOD, BUT HONDA MECHANIC SAID THE STARTER IS FAILING. WE REPLACED THE STARTER ENGINE, AND THE CAR STARTS UP GOOD EVERY TIME. IT COST $515 TO REPLACE STARTER ENGINE. HONDA REFUSED TO PAY FOR DEFECT, BECAUSE THE CAR IS PAST WARRANTY.
I GOT NO WARNING AND THE CAR WOULD START AND THEN DIE. I LOOKED ON THE NET AND THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED WITH OTHER HONDA'S. I HAD RUN AN ERRAND AND WASN'T GONE LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES.-
WHEN TRYING TO START, IT MAKES A CLICKING SOUND, DOESN'T TURN OVER AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLICKER. REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT DIDN'T HELP. BOUGHT 2013 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN SPORT ON 06/13. I JUST REACHED THE 32000MILES AND MY STARTER IS SLIPPING AND CAUSING ME TO TURN THE IGNITION A FEW TIMES BEFORE IT STARTS. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE MAY BE A FAULT ON THE PRODUCT OR INSTALLATION OF PART.
MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD SPORT EXPERIENCED ENGINE STARTING PROBLEM. SOMETIMES IT TOOK 3 OR 4 TIMES TO TURN THE KEY TO GET THE CAR STARTED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SUNNYVALE HONDA DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STARTER PROBLEM. IT COSTS ME $936 TO REPLACE THE STARTER INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MY CAR IS ONLY ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 40K MILEAGE HAVING THE STARTER ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHAT A SHAME WITH THE HONDA BRAND!!!
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS CHECKING UNDER THE HOOD OF MY HONDA AND I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL AND THERE WAS NOT A DROP OF OIL IN THE ENGINE. I DIDNT KNOW WHY THIS WAS SO I CHANGED THE OIL FAST TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM DAMAGING. NOW 1400 MILES AFTER MY OIL CHANGE THE ENGINE IS HALF WAY DRY OF OIL. MY CAR IS A 2013 HONDA ACCORD WITH ONLY 42000 MILES ON IT, IT SHOULD NOT BE BURNING OIL.

AT THE LAST OIL CHANGE THERE WAS ONLY 1 QUART OF OIL LEFT IN THE ENGINE. CONSUMPTION TESTING DID NOT SHOW 1 QUART/1,000 MILES SO NOTHING WAS DONE BY HONDA. BETWEEN 2,000 AND 3,000 MILES OF THE CONSUMPTION TEST OIL WAS CONSUMED AT A RATE OF 1 QUART OR MORE PER 1,000 MILES. HONDA STILL DID NOTHING. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND GOT NO WHERE. I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL HONDA'S SINCE 1987 BUT WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER BECAUSE OF THIS WILLINGNESS TO DO NOTHING. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL EVERY TIME I STOPPED FOR GAS.

HEARD GROWLING SOUND FROM ENGINE WHEN COMING TO A STOP, OCCASIONALLY DURING ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEEDS AND DURING COLD START. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND ISSUE WAS FOUND TO BE DUE TO LOW ENGINE OIL (3 QUARTS LOW) . HAD THE OIL CHANGED ABOUT 6000 MILES BEFORE THIS ISSUE OCCURRED.

THERE A NOISE OF AN ELECTRICAL SWITCH TURNING IN THE DASH, BUT I DON'T THINK IT IS THE STARTER SOLENOID. I REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I'VE READ OF A BRAKE SWITCH NOT TELLING THE STARTER IT WAS OKAY TO START, BUT HAVEN'T CHECKED THAT. I'VE READ HONDA REPLACING THE STARTER, BUT I HAVEN'T DONE THAT. SOME POSTS SAY REPLACE THE START SWITCH.

OCT 11, 2016, I DROVE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL AND PARKED THE VEHICLE ON THE STREET. AFTER WALKED THEN CLASS, I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE. THE CAR DID NOT START ON THE FIRST TRY, SECOND TRY, BUT IT STARTED ON THIRD TRY. SINCE PURCHASED, I REPLACED BATTERY TWICE DUE TO THE ABOVE REASONS. I HAD BATTERY CHECKED AND IT'S STILL GOOD. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
TWO WEEKS AGO MY ACCORD BEGAN HAVING ISSUES STARTING. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE WOULD EVENTUALLY START AND I WOULD BE ON MY WAY. UNTIL LAST FRIDAY, AUGUST 26, 2016. I DROVE TO A FRIENDS HOUSE, PARKED, CAME BACK OUT TO START MY CAR AND WOULD HEAR A "POPPING" SOUND LIKE THE ENGINE WAS TRYING TO START UP, BUT TO NO AVAIL. FRIEND'S NEIGHBOR IS A RETIRED AUTO MECHANIC. HE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT THE BATTERY, AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE STARTER ITSELF. ALMOST MAGICALLY, THE CAR RANDOMLY DECIDED TO START AGAIN. DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO AN ADDITIONAL AUTO MECHANIC, HE TESTED THE VEHICLE (BATTERY, CABLE CONNECTIONS, WIRES THAT ATTACH TO STARTER) AND ALSO FOUND THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE STARTER. MY ACCORD HAS 66,000 MILES ON IT. THE TOTAL COST TO FIX THIS ISSUE WILL BE $680, KIND OF RIDICULOUS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE FROM WHAT I'VE READ. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
I PARKED VEHICLE ON RESIDENTIAL CITY STREET. RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE 15 MINUTES LATER AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. MANY OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. CALLED AAA, INITIAL TECHNICIAN RESPONDED AND COULD NOT START THE CAR BY JUMPING WITH BATTERY PACK. BATTERY TESTED OK. TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED, OPERATOR TRIED TO JUMP THE VEHICLE AGAIN WITH BATTERY PACK AND THE VEHICLE STARTED. TOW TRUCK OPERATOR SUGGESTED I TELL THE DEALERSHIP HE SUSPECTED THE STARTER OR THE WIRING TO THE STARTER WAS THE PROBLEM. A/C PRIOR TO THIS EVENT HAD BEEN WORKING NOW HAD NO POWER. DROVE THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE WAS LEFT AND DIAGNOSED WITH FAULTY STARTER. FUSE WAS BLOWN TO A/C. (WE DID NOTE THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN HARDER TO START RECENTLY - HAVING TO TURN THE KEY MORE THAN 1 TIME TO GET THE CAR TO START. STILL THIS WAS HARDLY NOTICEABLE OR APPARENT THAT A PROBLEM WAS DEVELOPING.) STARTER AND FUSE TO BE REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP WILL BE PICKING UP CAR HOPEFULLY TODAY. THIS WAS NOT MERELY INCONVENIENT AND UNPLEASANT BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS EMERGENCY FOR PERSONS WITH HEALTH/MEDICAL ISSUES - IT WAS VERY HOT OUT WITH POOR AIR QUALITY AND PASSENGER AND MYSELF WERE STRANDED AND WITHOUT A/C FOR 4 HOURS. CONCERNED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN AND WHY THIS HAPPENED. VEHICLE IS MAINTAINED, 3YRS OLD WITH APPROX. 35,000. I AM SEEING NUMEROUS SIMILAR/IDENTICAL REPORTS FROM OTHER OWNERS.
INTERMITTENT ENGINE STARTING. STARTER IS ENERGIZED BUT FAILS TO START MOTOR. A LOUD GNASHING OR GRINDING CAN BE HEARD AS THE STARTER TRIES TO TURN MOTOR. IT SOUNDS AS IF THE STARTER DOESN'T FULLY ENGAGE THE FLEX PLATE/FLYWHEEL. ENGINE EVENTUALLY STARTS AFTER SEVERAL (AS MANY AS 10) ATTEMPTS. THE PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH ANY CONDITION. I'VE DRIVEN 2 WEEKS WITH NO ISSUES THEN WILL HAVE 5 EPISODES IN 2 DAYS. A COMPLETELY RANDOM OCCURRENCE BUT VERY FRUSTRATING AND EMBARRASSING.

CONTINUOUSLY OCCURS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY OR CITY STREETS. ALL GAUGES ARE FINE AND CAR IS MAINTAINING GAS MILEAGE. COULD IT BE THAT THE O-RING AND FUEL TANK ARE ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN THAT ON THE ORIGINAL 2013 HONDA ACCORDS (BUILT WITH FAULTY FUEL TANKS) CAUSING THE O RING TO WEAR OUT? HOW CAN THIS BE CHECKED. ALSO JUST WANT TO NOTE THAT MY WIFE HAD A 2009 PILOT THAT KEPT NEEDED SPARK PLUGS AND HAD EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION--SHE GOT RID OF THE CAR BECAUSE SHE KEPT ARGUING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE WITH THE HONDA DEALERSHIP--HONDA ADMITTED TO THE PROBLEM AND EXTENDED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY RIGHT AFTER SHE GOT RID OF THE CAR.

AAA WAS ABLE TO JUMP THE CAR AND I DROVE IT TO SAN LEANDRO HONDA. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW YOU TUBE VIDEOS WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD HONDA'S AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM.
MY ACCORD HESITATES WHEN PUT TO D FROM A STOP OR ACCELERATING FROM STOP, LOW RPM OR ZERO SPORADICALLY EVEN WHILE LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY. IT USUALLY HAPPENS FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE TO DRIVE. IT HAS STALLED WHILE LEAVING A STOP SIGN OR AN INTERSECTION ON THE STREET, SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IS A HONDA ISSUE AND TO BASICALLY LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN HAVE THIS ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2015.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST SIX WEEKS WHEN TURNING LEFT, THE CAR WILL STALL FOR A SECOND OR SO LOSING ALL POWER. IT THEN WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN HIT WHEN TURNING ONTO A ROAD BY ON COMING TRAFFIC WHEN I SHOULD HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR THREE DAYS. THE SERVICE REP DROVE IT HOME. THE MECHANIC DROVE IT. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THE DAY I GOT THE CAR BACK IT AGAIN STALLED OR LUGGED. MOST OF THE TIME IT STALLS WHEN TURNING LEFT BUT IT HAS FAILED IN REVERSE AND WHEN LEAVING A STOP LITE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD CALL HONDA ENGINEERING TO SEE WHAT PROBLEMS THEY MIGHT BE AWARE OF. THAT WAS A WEEK AGO AND I'VE NOT HEARD BACK. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN IF YOU ARE OVER 20 MPH. THIS IS A 6 CYLINDER HONDA. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS WITH ECCO OFF OR ON. I PURCHASED THE CAR CERTIFIED USED 10/2015 FROM A HONDA DEALER. IT HAS 18,000 MILES. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS BELOW THE MARK ON THE DIPSTICK TO INDICATING TO ADD OIL. I CALLED HONDA CORPORATE WHO SUGGESTED I TAKE IN TO THE DEALER. APPOINTMENT IS IN TWO DYES FROM NOW. I SURELY HOPE I AM NOT TOLD THIS IS NORMAL AS NO ENGINE THIS NEW SHOULD BURN OIL AT THIS RATE; FORTUNATELY I AM STILL UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER AND POWERTRAIN WARRANTY.

DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 TO 65 MPH, GRINDING NOISE INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AT CRUISING SPEED (65 MPH) RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL TO MAINTAIN MY SPEED. THEN TAP THE GAS PEDAL LIGHTLY TO GET BACK ON SPEED, THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I START NOTICING THIS AROUND 8000 MILES ON THE CAR. CAR NOW HAS 13,200 MILES. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER , BUT HONDA IS SAYING IT IS NORMAL. GRINDING NOISE INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AT THAT SPEED IS NOT NORMAL. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUE AND WILL NOT GIVE A GOODWILL WARRANTY TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THIS STARTUP PROBLEM. THEY SAID I WOUD HAVE TO PAY IF NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

THE DEALERSHIP THEN DID MY OIL CHANGE & CHECKED THE CAR OUT & FOUND NOTHING. I THEN GOGGLED THE SYMPTOMS OF MY CAR & FOUND RECALL WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH SHUTS DOWN THE BATTERY ON THIS SITE. I BELIEVE ROCK HONDA SOLD ME THE VEHICLE WITHOUT REMEDYING THE RECALL PRIOR TO SALE. HONDA CORPORATION DID NOTHING.
I HAVE A HONDA ACCORD 2013 (JUST 2 YEARS OLD) WITH 59209 MILES ON IT. CAR SOMETIMES CLICKS AND WILL NOT START. SOMETIME IT WILL START AFTER ABOUT 5 TO 10 TRIES, OR WAITING FOR A WHILE. SOMETIMES THE CAR STARTS FINE ON THE FIRST TRY. I TALKED TO HONDA OF AMERICA ON 7/20/2015 AND THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE THE STARTER OR IGNITION GOING BAD AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE 5 YEAR/60K POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER YESTERDAY AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT TO THE STARTER MOTOR AND REPLACED IT AND SAID THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I THEN TALKED TO HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE SORRY FOR THE MISINFORMATION I RECEIVED AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS COVERED ONLY BY THE 3 YR/36K WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND THE STARTER MOTOR SHOULDN'T GO BAD.
THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS. WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO TURN A CORNER, OR SLOW DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT, GOING AT A SLOW SPEED FROM APPROX. 15 MPH TO 25 MPH, THE CAR APPEARS TO STALL. AS IF THE ENGINE HAS STOPPED. WHEN I PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING HAPPENS. IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, THEN PUSH DOWN AGAIN, THE CAR SURGES AHEAD. I HAVE CALLED THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER AND THE SERVICE TECH ALWAYS SAYS THAT THEY CHECKED IT AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I AM AFRAID THAT ON ONE OF THOSE TIMES THAT THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER THAT I WILL BE TAILGATED IF THERE IS SOMEONE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. I AM ALSO AFRAID THAT ONE OF THE TIMES I AGAIN PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL THAT THE CAR MAY SURGE AHEAD TOO FAST AND I MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS A MAIN ROAD THAT WAS RECENTLY REPAVED. IT IS A MAIN ROAD. IT IS ASPHALT. I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. IT HAD RAINED ALL DAY BUT WAS NOT RAINING AT THE TIME OF CRASH. THERE IS TRAFFIC ON THIS MAIN ROAD SO I WAS GOING ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR. SUDDENLY THE CAR ACCELERATED AND WENT RIGHT. I HIT A PARKED CAR AND MY CAR FLIPPED OVER. I WAS CUT OUT OF THE CAR AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. I HAVE CUTS AND BRUISES BUT I AM OTHERWISE OK. THE AIRBAGS WORKED. WHAT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT ARE THE TIRES. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT GOODYEAR EAGLES. THE BEST GUESS IS THE CAR HYDROPLANED. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THESE TIRES TEND TO DO THIS. I CAN'T PROVE IT WAS THE TIRES BUT I WANT TO GO ON RECORD THAT I BELIEVE THESE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. THEY ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON MANY NEW CARS. RICHARDS HONDA DEALERSHIP IN BATON ROUGE CLAIMS THAT A ROCK STRUCK MY CONDENSER, CAUSED THE LEAK AND THE ROAD DEBRIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR WILL BE A YEAR OLD FROM A NEW PURCHASE NEXT MONTH, I TRAVEL IN MY CAR EVERYDAY TO WORK AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR IN NEARLY 30K MILES, UNTIL NOW. DEALER COST $530. HONDA SHOULD PROVIDE A PROTECTOR ON CONDENSERS TO KEEP THEIR REPUTATION REGARDING A RELIABLE AUTOMOBILE, PAY 100% OF THE FEES OR AT LEAST 75% AS HONDA SHOULD RECTIFY THIS ONGOING PROBLEM BY OFFERING A PROTECTOR AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMERS AND IMMEDIATELY REPAIRING THE CONDENSER AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER WITHIN THEIR FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP, MINIMUM. OIL LAMP INDICATOR LIGHT BEGAN BLINKING AND HEARD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND BASICALLY THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL ABOUT 2 QUARTS ARE BURNING AROUND 3000 MILES AND OIL LAP INDICATES OIL CHANGE IS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER 70 PERCENT. I DID THE TEST MANY TIME AND THEY ARE BUYING TIME. IF I DON'T CHECK OIL AND KEEP DRIVING THEN THE ENGINE WILL BURST. THE DEALER WONT HELP ME ITS A MANUFACTURE DEFAULT VEHICLE AND THEY KEEP SAYS ITS NORMAL. ITS NOT NORMAL FOR OIL LAP LIGHT TO COME ON A BRAND NEW CAR AND THE OIL CHANGE WAS NOT EVEN DUE. AT SLOW SPEEDS THE HONDA WOULD STALL. ALSO HAPPENED WHEN INITIALLY SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. RPMS WOULD JUST CUT OUT. HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES. STALLED OUT WHILE MOVING THROUGH INTERSECTION. CALLED TOW COMPANY AND HAD THEM TOW TO DEALER. DEALER REPLACED COMPUTER SENSORS. I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT IT WAS. VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD PROBLEM SINCE HOWEVER GAS MILEAGE IS DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE FIX. NOT HAPPY WITH MILEAGE. WAS GETTING 35 MPGS ON MY COMMUTE. NOW GETTING 31 MPGS. OVER 10% REDUCTION. *TR

THIS WAS INSTANCE #3 AND WORST OCCURRENCE. STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, MADE A LEFT TURN WHEN BREAK IN TRAFFIC, HALF WAY INTO TURN ENGINE LAGGED WITH NO RESPONSE LIKE IT SHUTDOWN, THEN TOOK OFF. ALMOST T-BONED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LAG BETWEEN START OF TURN AND THEN ENGINE RESPONSE WAS AT LEAST 2-3 SECONDS. SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES BEFORE. BOTH OF THOSE INSTANCES WERE RIGHT TURNS ON RED, WITH NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. EVEN THOUGH NO TRAFFIC WAS COMING, THE CONCERN IS THAT THE LAG/DEAD RESPONSE WORRIES ME AND CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE. HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3 HONDA SERVICE ADVISORS THAT HAVE NOT HEARD OF THE ISSUE AND BECAUSE IT IS INTERMITTENT DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY COULD DO. THEY STATED CLEARLY THAT UNLESS THEY COULD RECREATE THE ISSUE, IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO TROUBLE SHOOT IT. GRILL OPENING IS LARGE WITH NO SCREEN OR MESH IN FRONT OF THE CONDENSER. REPAIR COST IS $786. HONDA SHOULD INCLUDE PROTECTION OF THE CONDENSER IN ITS DESIGN AND PERFORM RECALL TO ADD PROTECTION. OWNERS WHO HAVE REPAIRED DAMAGE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED THE COST OF THE REPAIR. *TR

I HAVE NOTICE AFTER DRIVING MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD ON OR AFTER A RAINY DAY OR IF THE ROADS ARE WET A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER SATURATION APPEARS INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE WATER SATURATION IS ON ALMOST ALL ENGINE PARTS. MY CONCERN HERE IS THAT THE MOISTURE WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRIC COMPONENT AND OTHER VITAL ENGINE PARTS. I HAVE OWNED HONDA(S) SINCE 1987 AND CAN ATTEST TO THE QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS TYPE OF MOISTURE UNDER ANY PREVIOUS HONDA(S) OWNED. I AM NOT SURE IF THERE'S A FIX IS IN THE WORKS FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT I SEE MAJOR PROBLEMS IF A FIX IS NOT INSTITUTED NOW.
