NHTSA Campaign: 20V026000
Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2001-2002 Acura 3.2CL, 2000-2003 Acura 3.5RL, 2000-2001 Acura 3.2TL, Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey, 2001-2002 Acura MDX and 2000 Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Coupe, and Civic Sedan vehicles. These vehicles may have received a replacement driver frontal air bag module as part of a vehicle repair. Due to a manufacturing issue, the replacement NADI inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bags in the vehicles, replacing the driver frontal air bag inflator with an inflator of a different design, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138.

Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 1214)
Air Bags →5 issues
Your car's airbag warning light (SRS light) is on and stays on while you drive. This means your airbag system isn't working properly and your airbags may not deploy in a crash. You should have a dealer scan the airbag system to identify what's causing the warning light.

Your 2000 Honda Accord was struck in a T-bone collision that caused it to spin and hit a pole. During the crash, only the driver's side airbag deployed—the steering wheel airbag and passenger front airbag did not deploy, and no warning light appeared beforehand. You sustained head, neck, hip, lower back, and shoulder injuries from the accident. The airbag system may not have functioned as designed during this multi-impact collision, which could involve inspection or replacement of the airbag control module, sensors, and deployment mechanisms.

You're concerned that your 2000 Honda Accord hasn't been recalled for airbag issues, even though other vehicles with similar or later model years have been. You're questioning whether the lack of a recall might be because there are fewer of these older cars still in use. The manufacturer should evaluate whether your vehicle needs an airbag inspection or replacement based on safety testing results, not just the number of cars on the road.

Your Honda Accord has an open airbag recall that your dealership (Boardwalk Honda) has not completed. You were told on 10-14-20 that the required part wasn't available yet and that you'd be notified when it was ready, but you haven't received follow-up communication and the dealership hasn't been responsive to your inquiries. You'll need to contact the dealership again or potentially escalate to Honda customer service to get the recall repair scheduled and completed.

You brought your 2000 Honda Accord in for a recalled airbag issue in November 2020. The dealer completed the service in about an hour and told you they only performed a software update, not an airbag replacement. However, you continue to receive recall letters and emails about the same airbag issue, suggesting the recall may not have been properly addressed or documented. You're concerned that a software update alone cannot fix physical metal pieces inside the airbag that the recall was meant to address.

Seat Belts →2 issues
Your car's airbag warning light (SRS light) keeps coming back on even after Honda has serviced it multiple times. You're concerned that if an accident happens, the airbag system may not work properly because the underlying problem hasn't been fully fixed. Getting the SRS system properly diagnosed and repaired is critical for your safety.

Your Honda dealership is unable to get the seat belt part you need because it's been on backorder for several months. This means your seat belt may not be functioning properly until the part becomes available. Getting this repaired is important for your safety, as working seat belts are critical in a crash.

Power Train →2 issues
Your transmission failed completely while you were driving, which forced you to nearly collide with a large truck. You've noticed many similar transmission complaints for this model year online but no recall has been issued. The transmission may need to be rebuilt or replaced entirely.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Your 2000 Honda Accord V6 may experience transmission problems around 80,000 miles or higher due to the transmission not being designed to handle the V6 engine's extra power, causing gears to slip, rough idling, and shifting issues. Honda offered to replace transmissions with rebuilt units, but these rebuilt transmissions have also failed after reaching similar mileage, suggesting the underlying problem wasn't truly fixed. No formal recall was issued, and Honda's repair offer was only available to owners within a limited time and mileage window. Fixing this typically requires transmission replacement or overhaul.

Steering →1 issue
Your steering rack and pinion assembly has come loose twice, even after Honda replaced it once. The second failure happened while you were driving, creating a dangerous situation where you could have lost control of the car. This is a serious safety issue that requires the steering rack and pinion to be securely reinstalled or replaced, with inspection to ensure proper fastening.

Steering,suspension,unknown Or Other →1 issue
The passenger side subframe has rusted through near the steering and suspension components, which caused your son to lose control of the vehicle and crash. Rust damage to this structural component compromised the integrity of the steering and suspension system. The repair will likely require subframe replacement or welding to restore structural integrity.

Suspension,electrical System →1 issue
Your 2000 Honda Accord has two serious safety problems. First, the front and rear struts, sway bar bushings, and sway bar links are worn out, which has caused your car to fail safety inspections for 5 years. Second, your instrument panel is malfunctioning—when you touch any dashboard buttons, all the lights and gauges on the panel shut off completely, leaving you without warning lights or information while driving. Fixing these issues will require replacing the suspension components and diagnosing/repairing the electrical connection between the dashboard buttons and the instrument panel lights.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your headlights have a film buildup on the inside that's preventing them from shining properly. The Honda dealer confirmed this is a known issue and said you'll need to take your car to a body shop to have the film cleaned off. Honda has opened a case about this problem.
Parts you may need:

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your ignition key can be removed while the transmission is in gear, which allows the car to roll even though the engine is off. This has happened multiple times. The dealer examined it but refused to fix it because there's no official recall for this issue.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Electrical System →1 issue
Your ignition switch has never worked properly. You brought your car to a Honda dealership for an airbag recall and mentioned the ignition switch issue, which is part of an official recall (05V-025), but the dealership refused to perform the work and told you to call Honda directly. When you contacted Honda, they said you'd have to pay a diagnostic fee before they'd attempt any repairs, even though this should be covered under the free recall.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Steering,suspension,service Brakes →1 issue
Your car has issues with the steering, suspension, and brake system that are preventing it from passing a smog check. The brake lamp light is not working properly, and there's a problem with the steering or suspension direction. You'll need a diagnostic inspection to identify the specific steering and suspension problems, along with brake lamp repair and emission system service.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Tires →1 issue
When you rotated your tires, you noticed cracks in the tread on all four tires running in multiple directions. The tires are losing 10-15 PSI of air pressure within a few days and appear unsafe to drive on. You'll need to replace all four tires to restore proper traction and safety.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Suspension,structure →1 issue
Your engine cradle (the metal frame that supports the engine) is rusting and deteriorating because the air conditioning unit is draining fluid onto it. The cradle is at risk of breaking due to how Honda designed this connection. This structural issue may eventually affect engine support and safety.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Structure →1 issue
The metal support structure (subframe) on the passenger side of your car has rusted completely through, which is a safety concern. You may have noticed noises from the front end, and this issue affects 1999-2002 Honda Accords, though Honda has not issued an official recall or fix for it. The damaged subframe may need to be replaced or welded to restore structural integrity and safety.
Parts you may need:
As an Amazon Associate, MyCarTSB earns from qualifying purchases.
Steering,suspension,power Train →1 issue
Your car pulls to one side or drifts out of its lane when you hit bumps, and your steering wheel feels loose. You've already had the steering rack and pinion and power steering pump replaced twice, but the problem keeps coming back. This suggests there may be an underlying suspension or alignment issue that needs diagnosis to prevent future steering component failures.
