Your engine's crankshaft has excessive end play (movement) that's outside manufacturer specifications, which a GM dealer diagnosed. You may notice excessive engine noise, but there were no warning lights before this issue appeared around 6,900 miles. This condition creates a high risk of engine failure while driving. The fix will likely require crankshaft inspection, bearing replacement, or potentially a complete engine overhaul or replacement.

Your 6.2L V8 engine seized while you were driving, after hearing pinging and knocking sounds. The engine shut off without warning and wouldn't restart—only cranking when you tried. Your dealer confirmed the engine needs to be replaced. This appears similar to previous GM recalls for the same engine.

Your truck displayed a "reduced acceleration" warning on the dashboard, which would disappear briefly when you restarted it but then return. Eventually, your truck shut off completely while you were driving, and when you tried to restart it, the dashboard went black and the engine wouldn't turn over. The dealership found multiple error codes and determined your engine needs to be replaced.

Your engine has stopped working twice since you bought the truck in June 2025. Both times, the dashboard showed a "loss of power" message and the engine wouldn't start, leaving you stranded during a family road trip and again after 5 months of ownership. The issue appears to involve the engine's electrical or fuel system failing to provide enough power to crank and start the engine.

While driving at highway speed, your engine suddenly lost most of its power and went into limp mode, forcing you to slowly exit the interstate with hazard lights on. The dealer diagnosed a failed thrust bearing in the 3.0-liter Duramax engine that requires a complete engine replacement according to GM's technical service bulletin. This type of failure creates a serious safety hazard on busy highways due to the sudden loss of power.

Your vehicle displayed a "Reduced acceleration; Drive with care" warning message at 5,200 miles, and the dealership found that a faulty thrust bearing caused complete engine failure. A faulty thrust bearing has caused catastrophic engine damage that makes your vehicle unsafe to drive, particularly when navigating traffic intersections. The dealership indicates this is becoming a more common issue with 2025 Sierras equipped with the 3.0 Duramax diesel engine, and GM's replacement engine supply is expected to take 2-3 months.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2025 Sierra 1500 with the 6.2L engine makes a chirping, squeaking, or squealing noise when the engine restarts after auto stop and the transmission downshifts below 20 mph. GM says this is normal behavior related to their dynamic fuel management (DFM) system and ignition timing, but you've noticed this noise on your truck since it was brand new and haven't heard it on similar trucks. The noise could be coming from the engine's valve lifters and pushrods, or potentially from the transmission area. Fixing this may require valve train component replacement, transmission service, or a software update to engine timing.

I was traveling on the I70 West around the 210 mile marker. I was in the passing lane at high speed when the vehicle without warning switched itself off. The dash showed the “press start” warning, but the vehicle would not restart. I was fortunate that I was around 1/2 a mile from a rest stop area. I was able to glide the vehicle into the rest area. As I slowed close to a stop the vehicle suddenly stopped and applied the park brake. I am a very experienced driver, if my wife was driving, the vehicle shutting down completely in the fast lane could have been catastrophic. The road was busy. The vehicle was locked up in Park and was unrecoverable. It had to be dragged sideways out of the area that it had come to a stop, and then dragged onto and off the tow truck. The following morning the dealership confirmed the engine was seized. When I purchased the vehicle, the dealership confirmed that the historic failures on the L87 6.2L V8 engine were resolved. Clearly not the case.

Your engine suddenly stalled while driving, and the truck shifted into Neutral on its own. When you tried to restart it, the engine wouldn't crank, and you discovered the transmission couldn't shift to Neutral either—leaving you stuck on a busy 2-lane road in dangerous conditions. The dealer later confirmed this was caused by engine bearing failure. Addressing this issue will require engine bearing replacement or possibly full engine replacement.

Your engine developed a loud knocking sound at around 9,300 miles, which grew progressively worse and triggered a 'reduced acceleration drive with care' warning. The dealership diagnosed this as a thrust bearing and crankshaft failure, requiring a complete engine replacement. This type of internal engine failure shouldn't happen in a new truck and may indicate a manufacturing defect.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Mar 2026

Your truck shut off while stopped at a red light, the doors unlocked automatically, and it restarted on its own with warning messages about brake system failure and traction control issues. When this happened, your power brakes stopped working, leaving you with manual braking only. This is the second time your truck has stalled at a stoplight and restarted, though you only lost brake power this time. The issue likely involves the electrical system losing power momentarily, which affects both the engine and brake assist functions.

Your engine is stalling unexpectedly in situations like stopping at traffic lights or backing into your driveway, even though it restarts when you try again. A "START Engine" message appears on the dashboard when this happens. Disabling the Auto START/STOP feature temporarily resolves the issue, but the problem continues to occur. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the engine control system, fuel delivery, or the START/STOP system to identify why the engine is shutting down unexpectedly.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your truck's driver assist system is displaying a "service driver assist system" warning message. When you took it to the dealer, they found that GM is still investigating the underlying issue and couldn't resolve it. This is concerning because your safety system is flagged for service but can't currently be fixed.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your truck seems to be shifting between two gears during both acceleration and deceleration, even after a dealership visit where they couldn't identify the issue. The problem has returned, and you've had to take it back to the shop a second time for diagnosis. This could involve transmission fluid service, software reprogramming, or transmission component inspection.

Vehicle Speed Control, forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
highVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Jan 2026

Your cruise control can accidentally activate when you're parking or making tight turns at low speeds because the toggle switch on your steering wheel is easily bumped. When this happens, your truck surges forward trying to reach the preset speed of 15 mph, which creates a safety hazard if pedestrians or other vehicles are nearby. This is a repeatable problem that occurs during low-speed maneuvering. The fix will likely involve adjusting the cruise control sensitivity settings or modifying the steering wheel toggle design to prevent accidental activation.

highENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,VISIBILITY
Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is making an abnormal knocking sound from the engine that gets worse when you turn on the A/C. Even after the dealer repaired a failed thermostat coolant housing, the knocking persisted. Additionally, your engine is consuming excessive oil—you need to add oil every 800 to 1,000 miles with no visible leaks underneath. A second dealer diagnosed a failed air compressor, which appears to be causing the A/C-related knocking. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the air compressor and investigating the excessive oil consumption.

Your truck's defrost system automatically reduces to very low power when there's light snow on the hood, supposedly to protect the blower motor. This can make it hard to keep your windshield clear while driving in snow, forcing you to pull over and manually clean snow from the cowl vents. GM says this is normal behavior, but you believe it's a safety hazard that needs to be recalled and fixed.

When you turned on your windshield defroster during light snow, the passenger-side blower vents made a hissing sound and the airflow dropped significantly, making it hard to clear the windshield. The dealer couldn't reproduce the problem when you brought it in, so it wasn't repaired. The issue happened around 3,000 miles with snow on the hood and near the outside vents.

Your side mirrors automatically lower when you shift into reverse to help you see the ground and parking lines, then should return to their previous position when you shift back to park or drive. However, about one-third of the time, the mirrors don't return to their original position and you have to manually adjust them using the preset buttons. This happens randomly and intermittently.

Your heated steering wheel gets very hot, reaching temperatures between 137-143 degrees Fahrenheit. Unlike your heated seats, there's no way to adjust the temperature to a lower setting, which could make it uncomfortable or unsafe to grip during cold weather use. The fix would likely involve adding adjustable temperature controls to the steering wheel heating system, similar to what's already available for the heated seats.
