While driving at 45 mph, you heard a popping noise and saw smoke coming from the front of your vehicle. Your engine went into limp mode, lost power, and your brakes became unresponsive. As you pulled into a parking lot, flames erupted from under the hood. A bystander used a fire extinguisher and the fire department was called to fully extinguish the fire; you sustained a minor hand injury. This engine fire requires immediate investigation by a qualified mechanic to determine the root cause before the vehicle is driven again.

Your engine suddenly seized while driving at 40 mph on a busy highway, forcing you to pull off the road. You heard a couple of popping noises just before the engine stopped, but there were no warning lights on the dashboard. The engine has not been inspected since the incident and remains in the same condition as when it seized.

Your engine is making a knocking sound caused by a collapsed lifter in one of the Active Fuel Management cylinders, which bent the push rod and damaged the camshaft. Metal fragments from this failure have circulated throughout your oil system, which can cause additional engine damage if not addressed. The engine will need to be inspected and likely rebuilt or replaced, and the oil system will need to be thoroughly flushed.

While driving at 40 MPH, your engine started making a tapping sound and had to be towed to a repair shop. The initial diagnosis found a bent push rod and broken lifter, which were replaced along with all push rods and AFM lifters for about $10,700. The same issue occurred again recently, resulting in catastrophic engine failure that now requires a complete engine replacement.

Your truck's Active Fuel Management (AFM) system failed at 70,000 miles, causing a cylinder 7 misfire error code (P0307) during normal commuting. This happened right after an oil change with no aggressive driving. Fixing this will likely require diagnosis and repair or replacement of the AFM system components, which may include lifters, solenoids, or a full engine rebuild depending on the extent of damage.

Your engine suddenly lost power while driving, forcing you to limp home. A dealer diagnosed failed lifters on one side of the engine, which required several thousand dollars to repair. You had noticed increasing ticking sounds from the engine before the failure occurred, and after the repair, the same ticking has returned after 70,000 additional miles, suggesting the problem may recur. Fixing this issue typically requires replacing the failed valve lifters and related engine components.

With all the GM engine problems being recalled, the known issue witht he AFM/DOD on all the models 2013 and up on 5.3L and 6.2L engines should have been recalled. The valves are known to collapse and nending push rods, causing damage to the cam shaft. This can cause ht eengine not to run. The symptoms and possible icidents include the same as the current recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000. My engine has been repaired twice now due to this AFM/DOD issue. I have all the paperwork from GM dealer that repaired it. I will upload the first repair, I need to scan the second repair. The engine is now making the ticking valve sound ans the vehicle is services regularly. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? AFM/DOD valves collapse causing enegine damage. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Lack of power while driving, loud engine knock Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, by the dealer Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Insepcted by the dealer, and only the damaged parts replaced, not all the valves that can still collapse. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning, engine light came on due to misfire on both incidents.

Purchased this vehicle on 06/29/2023 from Robideaux Motors in Coeur d Alene ID. with 81,397 mile on the odometer. On 01/05/2024 the 6.2L engine with 84,109 miles, started having a ticking sound after starting it at my son's house two miles from home. I called the dealer and was told to bring it in for diagnosis by a tech. While driving the truck to the dealer the ticking got worse and motor started to shudder and the check engine light came on. Cause was a misfire on cylinder 4 due to bent push rod and failed lifter. Replaced lifter bank 2 with new push rod. Total cost was $2,852.74 (have invoice). After many calls and letters to my extended warranty company, they finally paid $1688.54 of the total cost. On 08/29/2024 the same ticking sound started again as well as the shudder and check engine light. I had it towed back to Robideaux Motors and was told it was a misfire on cylinder 6 due to lifter failure. Robideaux Motors did repair under their repair warranty. I know that this vehicle is not included in class action suit, due to the year. I feel this to be a continuing problem with the GM 6.2 and 5.3L motors encompassing many model years. Just wanted to document that the number of years covered in the law suit should be expanded.

Truck is equipped with AFM and the lifters failed causing a no -power situation. First happens at 57,000 miles then again at 82,000 miles. Not only was this a dangerous situation, but also a very expensive situation. GM knows these are defective and should have been recalled and repaired on their dime, not mine. Pictures of bill included are only of the first repair. Second repair pictures are available upon request.

The issues started when I began to notice that I was not having a constant flow of heat coming out of the vents inside of the vehicle. I brought the vehicle over to a local service center and the mechanic there discovered that my antifreeze reservoir was completely empty, but I did not have a leak. After filling the truck back up with coolant, a few days later, while driving, suddenly the truck began to run rough as if the vehicle went into "limp mode". I noticed that the check engine light was flashing and the traction control light was on. At stops, the truck would rough idle, shake, and there was a large amount of smoke coming from the tailpipe. I was able to get the truck back to the same service center that ran some diagnostic tests. He told me that there is a fault in the number 7 cylinder which has no compression in it. I had the truck towed to a local GMC dealership who confirmed that there was no compression in the number 7 cylinder and said that there was a lifter issue in the engine requiring an expensive fix. GMC had the truck from the Friday after Thanksgiving (the Year 2021) to January 4, 2022, to make the repairs. Repairs were delayed due to the dealership not being able to get the necessary parts in a timely manner.

I have noticed over the last few weeks I am losing radiator fluid. Its slow but noticeable. Engine temperature rises and fan stays on. My 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 only has 50,150 miles on it, and started well under 50,000. It looks like the leak is from upper contact points of Radiator and frame. I have come to find out that GMC has put a notice out on this issue and put a recall/repair out on the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 for the same issue. Its a know defect. ( I WILL ATTACH COPIES ) I went to the dealer and was told they would fix the 2014 but have not issued a fix for the 2015. "Not enough complaints"? Its a very expensive fix for a KNOWN manufactured defect but GMC (AND CHEVY TRUCKS) want more complaints.... so here is my filing. Kind of a silly game they are playing when they know it should be a recall issue.

WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE MAIN ROAD WHERE I WAS GOING I NOTICED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY TRUCK. AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT ONCE IT TURNED I ACCELERATED AND SUDDENLY FELT A JERK FROM THE TRUCK AND HEARD A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE. IT DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES ABOUT 5-6 TIME EVERY TIME I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM A SPEED OF 30-40. I DECIDED TO DROP IT OFF AT MY LOCAL GMC TO GET IT LOOKED AT. THEY CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY TO PICK IT UP SINCE THEY RAN IT THROUGH DIAGNOSTICS AND DIDN'T FIND AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. ONCE I GOT THERE I DEMANDED FOR THE MECHANIC TO COME DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH ME TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND THEY DECIDED THEY NEEDED TO KEEP IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS TO GET IT LOOKED AT. THEY THEN CALLED TWO DAYS AFTER AND SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS MESSED UP AND NEEDED A NEW ONE TOTALING THE COST TO $5346.07 WHICH IS CERTAINLY NOT SOMETHING WE CAN AFFORD RIGHT NOW! I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY DIDN'T SEE THE ISSUE THE FIRST TIME THEY DIAGNOSED IT?? THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO GET RECALLED I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR ISSUES.

MY GMC 2015 DIESEL DURIMAX TRUCK HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON AND SAID EMISSION NEEDS SERVICED. IT PROCEEDED TO CUT MY TRAVELING SPEED FROM 75 MPH TO 65 MPH TO 55 MPH. I MADE IT TO DENVER COLORADO BARELY WITHOUT THE TRUCK FALLING TO 4 MPH. I WENT YESTERDAY TO HAVE IT SERVICED. THEY SAID THAT THEY FIXED IT STILL UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I DROVE AWAY TO GO BACK TO TEXAS 700 MILES OF HIGHWAY HOME. I DROVE AND THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I'M WAS ON A HIGHWAY AT THIS POINT WITH HEAVY HIGHSPEED TRAFFIC IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 75 MPH. MY TRUCK SPEED WAS REDUCED BY THE EMISSION SYSTEM AGAIN FROM 75 MPH TO 65 MPH TO 55 MPH. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A BIG RIG TRUCK WITH MY WIFE IN THE CAR. SOMETIME LATER WERE ALMOST SIDE SWIPED TWICE, AND THEN IT STARTED RAINING AND THE SUN STARTED TO SET, AND MATTERS WENT FROM DANGEROUS TO NEAR DEADLY. WE TRIED TO TURN THE TRUCK AROUND TO GET BACK TO DENVER AND ALMOST WERE HIT AGAIN BECAUSE WITH THE GMC SPEED REDUCTION I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AWAY FROM THE HIGH SPEED CARS COMING AT US. GMC SHUTDOWNS THE CAR SPEED PURPOSELY TO AVOID SOME TINY AMOUNT OF NOX, AND PUT PEOPLE AT RISK OF BEING KILLED ON A HIGHWAY IN RAINY NIGHTIME WEATHER. WE FINALLY MADE IT BACK TO DENVER JUST 19 MILES BEFORE THE TRUCK SPEED WOULD HAVE BEEN REDUCED TO 4 MPH. WE WOULD HAVE TO BEEN ON THAT 75 MPH HIGHWAY RIDING IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SLOW LANE AT 4 MPH !!!!! AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN WITH HIGH SPEED 18 WHEELERS GOING BY AT 75 TO 85 MPH. THE GOVERNMENT AND GMC ARE INSANE TO HAVE DESIGNED THIS, I AM BRINGING IT TOMORROW TO GET TRY TO GET IT FIXED AGAIN BUT THE ORDEAL I WENT THRU IS STILL SCARY AS HELL, AND WORRIED ABOUT IT GETTING FIXED. WE COULD BE KILLED DUE TO THIS. I AM AN ENGINEER DEALING WITH PUBLIC SAFETY, AND I AM IN SHOCK CONCERNING GMC'S AND THE GOVERNMENT OVER STEP IN THIS DESIGN.
