MY CAR SLIPS OUT FO GEAR, SLOWS DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, REVVS AT HIGH RPM'S, AND WON'T ACCELERATE AGAIN UNLESS I SLAM THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. IT ONLY DOES THIS SOMETIMES. ALSO, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE. I APPLY MY FOOT ONTO THE BREAK, AND IT GOES STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. DELAYS STOP TIME SUBSTANTIALLY.
FUSION HAS ISSUES ACCELERATING WHILE IN MOTION. THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RPM WILL JUMP. THIS CAUSES SAFETY CONCERNS BECAUSE WHILE DRIVING, CAR WILL SUDDENLY NOT ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC AND I HAVE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE THE TRAFFIC AROUND IS GOING AT A HIGHER SPEED AND HAS POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR APPEARS TO HAVE TROUBLE SWITCHING BETWEEN GEARS AND CAR JERKS IN THE SHIFT.
THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONS AND LOSES COMPLETE POWER WHILE DRIVIG
THERMOSTAT STICKS OPEN (COLD) WHILE DRIVING. SUDDEN JUMPS TO NORMAL TEMPERATURE RANGE FOLLOWED BY DROP TO COLD AGAIN. VEHICLE HAS HARD TIME STARTING WHEN TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS ON COLD MARK AFTER RUNNING FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME. THERMOSTAT HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THROTTLE STICKS ON ACCELERATION CAUSING ENGINE TO BOG DOWN AND ALMOST CHOKE OUT FOLLOWED BY SUDDEN BURST OF ACCELERATION THAT COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AT TYPICAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60MPH-70MPH) THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR LOOSES THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ANY FASTER THAN ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR. WE PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND START IT BACK UP AGAIN AND IT APPEARS TO RUN FINE. THIS CAN HAPPEN RANDOMLY ONE DAY AND THEN NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A FEW WEEKS OR EVEN A MONTH OR TWO THEN IT DOES IT AGAIN. BASED ON MY RESEARCH COMPARING OTHER DRIVERS POSTING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY OR WHAT IS SOMETIMES CALLED THE ETB = ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE PROBLEM IS THE RESULT OF THE COMPUTER AND SENSORS SENDING BAD SIGNALS TO THE THROTTLE BODY MECHANISM WHICH THEN AFFECTS THE AIR/GAS MIXTURE AND ADVERSELY AFFECTS ACCELERATION, THIS IS DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES FOR FORD FUSIONS BUT IT ONLY INCLUDED 2009 MODELS AND LATER MODELS, BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE 2006 MODELS. I HAVE READ OF OTHER PEOPLE IN EARLIER MODEL CARS FROM AS EARLY AS 2005 POSTING ON FORUMS THAT THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE, SO I BELIEVE THIS WASN'T ONLY A PROBLEM ON 2009'S AND LATER. FORD ISSUES AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FUSION OF TEN YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SPECIFIC RECALL OTHER THAN A REFERENCE TO CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. THE PROBLEM SOMETIMES IS REFERRED AS THE "LIMP HOME" MODE. IN CONCLUSION, I WOULD LIKE OUR 2006 FORD FUSION TO BE INCLUDED OR QUALIFIED IN THE RECALL SO I CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM OR AT LEAST GET REIMBURSED ONCE I GET IT FIXED SINCE IT IS A DEFECT WITH THE CAR.
WHILE REVERSING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK THE OTHER DAY, THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME BECAUSE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT EASILY, BUT I WAS TOO NERVOUS TO DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY AFTER THE INCIDENT, AS THERE WAS NO INDICATION THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CAR WAS GOING TO SHUT DOWN. I DROVE DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD WITH MY FLASHERS ON UNTIL I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE WHERE I COULD CALL MY HUSBAND. WHILE I WAITED FOR HIM TO COME GET ME, I KEPT THE CAR IN IDLE AND RAN THE HEATER. THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT ACCOMPANIED THE FAILURE. (SEE ATTACHED.) THE DASH SAID "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" AND THE OIL, EMISSIONS, AND BATTERY LIGHTS CAME ON. WE CALLED AND HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP BUT MAN THERE HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND TOLD US TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. MY CAR HAS OVER 100,000 MILES, BUT I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD MECHANICS TELL ME THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK WELL. I HAVE ALSO HAD THEM TELL ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE AIR-CONDITIONER IN THESE CARS TO JUST TURN ON RANDOMLY TO COOL THE ENGINE, WHICH MINE DOES FREQUENTLY. MOREOVER, THE BATTERY IN THE CAR NOW IS THE THIRD ONE I'VE HAD. BRAKE LIGHTS BURN OUT CONSTANTLY, AND THE TRANSMISSION MAKES TERRIBLE NOISES WHEN I START THE CAR AND PARTICULARLY WHEN I REVERSE. THIS NEW PROBLEM OF STOPPING UNEXPECTEDLY IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE. I HATE TO GIVE UP MY FUSION BECAUSE WHEN IT'S RUNNING CORRECTLY, IT'S A GREAT CAR; HOWEVER, THIS LAST INSTANCE IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO FRIENDS OF MINE WHO OWNED FORDS. I WILL BE CALLING FORD AND ASKING THEM ABOUT THROTTLE BODY AND PCM PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE NOTED IN THEIR COMPLAINTS.
AFTER SLOWING DOWN JUST BEFORE THE STOP SIGN, MY CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER AND WHEN I TRIES TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE INTERSECTION IT STOPS ACCELERATING. I HAD TO LIMP ALONG TO GET HOME. LUCKILY, I WAS JUST ABOUT 1.5 MILES FROM HOME. I HAVE DONE FOR THIS CAR ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND NEVER MISSED THE RECOMMENDED PERIODICAL OIL CHANGES. I DRIVE LESS THAN 5000 MILES A YEAR WITH THIS CAR AN IT HAS LESS 59,000 MILES ON IT. THIS MUST BE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART FROM THE FACTORY AND I SHOULD NOT PAY FOR IT. I HAVE LEFT IT PARKED ON MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL I HEAR FROM YOU AND BY WAY OF YOUR GOOD OFFICES HOPEFULLY FROM FORD. THANK YOU FOR KIND ASSISTANCE. I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CAR IN 2008. MY CAR THEN WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 50 MPH WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ON THE FREEWAY ON RAMP , AND COULD NOT GO UP HILLS. SO I REPAIRED IT OR SO I THOUGH. NOW BRING ME TO LAST YEAR 2014 I STILL EXPERIENCE ALL THAT PULL WHEN TRAVELING BUT NOW MY SPEEDOMETER WAS GOING CRAZY AND WOULD JUST GO UP TO 100 MPH AS I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. FAST FORWARD TO AUGUST 2014 WHEN I HAD THE SPEED SENSOR CHANGED...AND NOW I'M IN MARCH 2015 AND AGAIN MY CAR PULLS, ME SPEEDOMETER GOES CRAZY. WELL AS I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AGES 5 YEARS, AND 7 MONTH OLD. I WAS REAR ENDED WHILE PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN!!! LUCKILY IT WAS JUST ENOUGH TO SCARE MY DAUGHTER AND I WAS JUST A BIT SORE THE WHOLE DAY BUT THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE! AFTER READING UP ON THE SURE MY ISSUE I AM HAVING I JUST ABOUT HAD ENOUGH! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY LUNGED FORWARD AND SUDDENDLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS CRASHED INTO A LIGHT POLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES, HAD TO UNDERGO SURGERY AND WAS IN A COMATOSE STATE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE CAR LOST POWER, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE ENGINE MADE SOME RATTLING SOUNDS. THEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANICS SHOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FUSION. ON JUNE 4, 2010, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TURNED ON THE VEHICLE, THE RPMS INCREASED RAPIDLY. THE RPMS INCREASED TO 3,500 WHEN IT WAS NORMALLY ON 900. THE VEHICLE BEHAVED THAT WAY FOR ABOUT SIXTEEN MILES SO THE CONTACT PARKED IT AND LET IT SIT FOR TWO HOURS. WHEN HE RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE BEHAVED NORMAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 27,635.
