FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured February 26, 2009, to April 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured February 25, 2009, to December 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0L engine, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) may crack, causing a fuel leak.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S41.

I filled up the tank and the inside smells like fuel, and it leaks underneath it. I checked online and they had a recall for the same year but the 3.0 engine, mine is the 2.5L. I took it to the mechanich and it has the exact same issue as those that have been recalled. The fueld delivery system flange is cracked and leaking fuel. I called ford and my car is not under that recall but it has the exact same issue. I need to pay it myself now and I am afrain for my safety as a lot of gas is leaking.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to refuel the vehicle, the fuel filler door would not open and the contact attempted to use a screwdriver to open the fuel filler door. The contact was not able to refuel the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer performed the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V777000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). However, the dealer did not have time to repair the fuel filler door. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

I was driving on the freeway in the second lane from the left cruising around 60-65 MPH when the vehicle started to idle rough and then I lost the ability to accelerate I had to maneuver over to the right-hand shoulder of the freeway with cars flying around me. Even though the engine never stalled, the loss of my ability to accelerate left me a sitting duck in danger of being struck by another vehicle or as a dangerous obstacle for other vehicles who might have gotten in an accident trying to avoid me. It also came to my attention while researching the cause that Ford was aware of the issue and had already recalled certain vin #'s and sent a letter out to others with an extended factory warranty to replace the part, but only once the part failed. NOT SAFE! I previously reported this incident to you in August or September, however I lost my follow up information and don't know what happened with my complaint.

RECALL 16V-777 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD IN JANUARY 2018 STATING THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE FIXED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER - GIBBONS FORD AND WAS PUT ON THE WAITING LIST SINCE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS. IT IS NOW APRIL AND THE DEALER HAS ONLY RECEIVED THREE OF THE PARTS TO DATE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SEVICE AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER CAS14605645. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD BE ELEVATED TO THEIR MANAGEMENT, BUT I THINK FOUR MONTHS IS EXTREMELY LONG TIME TO EFFECT A RECALL. THE VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE GAS AND I'M HESITANT TO DRIVE IT DUE TO THE INCREASED RISK OF FIRE. I BASICALLY HAVE A VEHICLE I CAN'T DRIVE WAITING ON FORD TO GET PARTS TO THE DEALERSHIP. ANY PRESSURE THAT CAN BE PUT ON FORD TO GET THE PARTS TO THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I HAVE GOTTEN A RECALL 16V-777, 16S41/NHTSA. I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR OIL AND THEY CHECKED THE RECALL, THEY TOLD ME MY TEST FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE PARTS. I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK. SO SOON AS I TURNED OFF MY CAR AFTER I LEFT THERE. I HAD A PROBLEM RESTARTING IT. I CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD ME TO WAIT A FEW DAYS, THAT THERE MAYBE AIR IN THE LINE. IT HAD GOTTEN WORSE. WENT BACK IN FOR REPAIR. IT WAS GOOD FOR A FEW DAYS AND NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH IT RESTARTING. I WENT TO A DIFFERENT FORD GARAGE. THEY TOLD ME THEY WON'T TOUCH IT BECAUSE A DIFFERENT GARAGE DID THE WORK. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NOT BEEN BACK TO THE GARAGE THAT DID THE WORK YET. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER AND THIS TIME, THE NECK OF THE FUEL TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE FOR SOME TIME, BUT WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, WE'VE BEEN GETTING REALLY BAD GAS MILEAGE. WE MAINTAIN OUR VEHICLE VERY WELL, SO THIS WAS CONCERNING. WE PUT NEW TIRES, DID A COMPLETED TUNE-UP, ETC., BUT THIS DIDN'T HELP. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO, OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & THE CODE SAID THERE WAS A PART THAT NEEDED REPLACING; THE VENT VALVE. WE DID THAT, AND THEN 2 WEEKS LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN FOR THE SAME THING. AND THEN, AS WE'RE PUMPING GAS, THE GAS KEEP SHUTTING OFF, AS IF WE ARE TOPPING IT OFF, WHEN IT'S ACTUALLY EMPTY. WE WERE HAVING A HARD TIME JUST FILLING UP OUR TANK. WE FINALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO OUR LOCAL REPAIR SHOP (WHOM WE TRUST). THE VENT VALVE THAT WAS REPLACED WAS FULL OF FUEL. THEY ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THE CANISTER. WE ARE HOPING THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. IF NOT, THEY SAID WE'LL NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, WHICH IS CURRENTLY ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. BUT I CHECKED MY VIN# & WAS TOLD MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE ISN'T PART OF THAT RECALL. ONE NIGHT I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND MY CAR STARTED TO RUMBLE, IT SHOOK BACK AND FORTH AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPLUTTER. MADE A COMMENT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE APPARATUS SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OUT AT 31,000 MILES (VEHICLE OUT OF WARRANTY BY DATE). THE GENTLEMAN POLITELY AVOIDED ANY ANSWER. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. 2ND TIME, WHILE GOING THREW A HUGE, BUSY INTERSECTION AT RUSH HOUR, CAR STARTED JERKING, GAS PEDDLE QUIT WORKING, ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED, WHOLE FAMILY WAS WITH ME; ROLLED OFF SIDE OF ROAD, TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. WHEN TURNING KEY ON IT WOULD MAKE THE REPEATED START SOUND BEFORE IT ACTUALLY STARTED. WHEN THE "THUD" HAPPENS THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ELIMINATES ON MY DASH, BUT ONCE I SHUT OFF KEY AND RESTART, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT GOES AWAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A "CANISTER PURGE VALVE" THAT NEEDED REPLACING AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $390 TO FIX. I PAID THEM THE $92 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND MY HUSBAND PAID $42 FOR THE PART AND REPLACED IT HIMSELF. ONLY MY PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AS THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I CALLED FORD BACK TODAY EXPLAINING IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN TODAY WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT 15 MPH AND THEY THEN GUESSED IT WAS THE "THROTTLE BODY" AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW! I JUST EXITED THE PA TURNPIKE WHEN MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SPUTTER. THE RPMS WERE FLUCTUATING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT AM GLAD THIS HAPPENED AFTER I GOT OFF THE TURNPIKE WHERE I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH AND HAD NO SHOULDER TO PULL OFF TO. IT HAPPENED TWICE THIS WEEK. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND, AS I WAS TRAVELING APX 55 MPH ON PA RT 422 AND AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY AS I WAS DRIVING ON COUNTY LINE RD AT APX. 40 MPH. EACH TIME THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN. MY VEHICLE WOULD SPUTTER AND RPMS WOULD FLUCTUATE AS THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY SEVERAL CARS THE LAST TIME SINCE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH SHOULDER FOR ME TO GET MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD AS THE ENGINE DIED. ALL TEMPERATURES WERE FINE AND MY FLUIDS ARE GOOD. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING FOR DIAGNOSTICS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE VALE. DRIVING ON I80 WEST, WHEN SUDDENLY I LOST POWER AND THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE, LOOKED AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND SAW THE "WRENCH" ICON LIT. PULLED OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO LOSE SPEED AND LIMPED INTO A SERVICE STATION PARKING LOT. TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND CONSULTED THE USER MANUAL AND FOUND THE ISSUE RELATED TO THE "POWERTRAIN/THROTTLE CONTROL". TURNED THE IGNITION BACK ON AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF AFTER STARTING THE CAR. HEADED BACK TO HOME VIA SIDE STREETS AND HAD ONE MORE INCIDENT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES. FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCEDURE AS BEFORE AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME (6 MILES). IF THIS HAD HAPPENED OUT IN THE COUNTRY MILES FROM NOWHERE I WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY WORRIED. PARKED CAR UNTIL AFTER THE HOLIDAY AND CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO ARRANGE SERVICE. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING(9/4) AND WAS TOLD LATER THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. NEW ONE WAS BACK ORDERED TO OCTOBER 26TH. SERVICE TECHNICIAN(KYLE) TOLD ME I COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN A COUNTY HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH WHEN IT JERKED FORWARD AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO ALMOST A CRAWL BEFORE THERE WAS ANY SIGN OF LIFE TO IT. MY WIFE CALLED ME AND I ASKED HER TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE. I TOLD HER TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. WHEN SHE DID THIS, SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE THEN JERKED AGAIN AND SWITCHED INTO THE LIMP MODE. AT THIS POINT MY WIFE PULLED OVER AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. THE FIRST MECHANIC I TOOK IT TO SAID THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO FORD AND THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ABOUT A MILE LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND THAT A NUMBER OF FORDS HAVE THE PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO RECALL. IT IS SUCH A PROBLEM THAT A REPLACEMENT PART IS ON BACK-ORDERED AND THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO TELL ME WHEN IT WILL BE IN SO THAT THE CAR CAN BE MADE SAFE TO OPERATE. THE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE OF A FAILURE WHILE DRIVING, AND THE WIDESPREAD NATURE OF THE PROBLEM SUGGEST FORD SHOULD BE MORE PROACTIVELY ADDRESSING THIS AND RECALLING CARS LIKE MINE BEFORE INCIDENTS ARISE WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 24, MY VEHICLE HAD SPONTANEOUSLY LOST POWER AS I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. AS I SAFETY STEERED MY VEHICLE TO A PLACE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE SERVICE LIGHT THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE STOP, I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF; WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEY STARTED IT BACK UP. THE ENGINE WAS ON, THE DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE STILL ONE, BUT NO POWER WAS TRANSFERRING FROM THE ENGINE TO THE TRANSMISSION AS I PRESSED DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE RPM GAUGE ALSO SHOWED LITTLE TO NO CHANGE WHILE I WAS APPLYING MORE GAS. AFTER I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE QUICK TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM BEING THE THROTTLE BODY. THE PART WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY ONLY AFTER I PAID THE $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. MY VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED; HAVING ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE BY FORD DEALERSHIP/SERVICE CENTERS WITHIN THE REQUIRED INTERVALS, AND HAS ONLY 44,800 MILES ON IT. *TR

ON MAY 23, 2013 I WAS TRAVELING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC FROM BALTIMORE WHEN MY CAR BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND WITHIN SECONDS THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. I MANAGED TO NURSE IT TO THE SIDE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHERE I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED SEVERAL MINS AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON BUT THE WRENCH WENT OUT. I WAS NOT IN A PLACE THAT WAS SAFE FOR ME TO REMAIN SO I NURSED THE CAR TO THE DEALER. AFTER SECURING A RENTAL CAR FOR ABOUT $50 A DAY (AT MY EXPENSE) I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 27 DAYS (3RD WEEK OF JUNE) BEFORE THE PART IS AVAILABLE AND WILL COST ME APPROXIMATELY $750 TO FIX. AT $50 A DAY MY RENTAL WILL BE TWICE THE REPAIR BILL AND MORE THAN MY MORTGAGE! IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE DEALER I CALL FORD'S CUSTOMER CARE CENTER, WHICH I DID, AND WAS TOLD MY COMPLAINT WAS LOGGED AND THAT I WOULD HEAR "MOST LIKELY NEXT FROM THE MANAGER AT THE DEALER". THEY DID NOT OFFER TO ASSIST WITH A LOANER OR WITH THE ISSUE SURROUNDING THE FACT THAT IT WAS GOING TO TAKE 27 DAYS (AT LEAST) FOR A PART TO BE AVAILABLE.
