Your 2022 Ford Edge is shuddering, jerking, and losing power while driving, making it unsafe to operate. Ford has confirmed the torque converter is failing, which requires transmission repair or replacement. This is a significant defect in a relatively new vehicle that multiple repair shops initially couldn't diagnose.

While driving, a wrench warning light appeared on your dashboard, followed by rough and hesitant gear shifts with a burning smell coming from your transmission. Your car's powertrain system eventually failed completely and had to be towed to the dealership. The transmission may need significant repair or replacement, which your extended warranty only partially covers.

Your car hesitates when accelerating from a stop, then jerks violently and cycles through gears rapidly. It also decelerates on its own while driving, sometimes with a burnt smell, forcing you to limp the car to the shop at 10 mph. This has happened multiple times, and two separate shops confirmed transmission trouble using diagnostic computer codes. A transmission fluid flush, filter replacement, or full transmission rebuild may be needed to resolve the issue.

Your transmission's torque converter is breaking apart internally, and metal fragments are contaminating your transmission fluid at 87,000 miles. You may notice shuddering, rough shifting, and the transmission could fail while driving. The dealership recommends replacing the entire transmission to address this issue.

Your gear selector shifts into Drive, but your car won't move forward. Your dashboard displays a 'shift system malfunction' warning light. This suggests a problem with the transmission or shift control system that's preventing power from reaching the wheels.

Your transmission is hesitating and slipping during gear shifts, requiring you to drive carefully to avoid making it worse. With less than 10,000 miles since your warranty expired, you're concerned this is the same torque converter failure that affected previous Edge AWD models and required full transmission rebuilds under recall. Getting the transmission inspected and likely rebuilt or replaced is the recommended fix.

Your 2022 Ford Edge hesitates and jerks when you accelerate, especially between 20-40 mph, making the vehicle feel unreliable and unsafe. The problem gets worse on some days and the engine seems to coast unexpectedly between 2,000-5,000 RPM. A mechanic will need to diagnose the transmission and torque converter to identify the root cause and determine what repairs are needed.

Your car hesitates, bucks, and surges when you accelerate from a stop up to around 50 mph, making it difficult and unsafe to merge into traffic. The problem is getting progressively worse and now happens at higher speeds too. This likely involves a fuel, ignition, or transmission system issue that should be diagnosed and repaired by a technician.

Driving highway speeds and all of sudden lost power. Light came on and said power train issue. Transmission totally went out?! Parking brake would come on randomly when putting car in park without engaging the parking brake.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon shifting into park(P), the warning messages "Control System Fault" and "Transmission not in Park" were displayed, and the vehicle started rolling backwards. The vehicle was stopped using the parking brake. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Transmission surges and shudders in low gears making driving at low speeds unsafe. Often feels like driving over heavily pot-holed roads when roads are fine. Jerking forward and backward while accelerating.
Torque converter failure.
Vehicle is experiencing sluggish acceleration and stalling when driving under 40 mph. Vehicle has stalled in heavy traffic on occasion. Further investigation with transmission is being conducted soon. No other issues with powertrain to this point, vehicle maintenance has been on or only slightly behind schedule per recommended maintenance schedule. Hundreds of other similar make and model vehicles have reportedly had similar issues.
Jerking harshly when shifting. Feels like a strong shudder. Light comes on and off. Also experienced a failure to shift and had to shut the car off. Very rough to drive. Car was purchased new, never been in an accident and less then 3 years old
Shuddering starting at 78,000 miles. Needed new torque converter. Common complaint/issue with this model.
Transmission. Everyone that owns a 2022 ford edge sel have had to either buy a new transmission or rebuild… out of my 4 vehicles with over 100k miles I have never had transmission issue and now I buy this car and it has transmission issues I’m over it. Ford need to recall their transmission
At 67,000 miles the vehicle started lurching forward and then at one point the traction control light came on the dashboard and the vehicle stopped itself while driving, as if the brakes were being applied, but we weren’t applying the brakes. After turning the car off and turning it back on, it drove with hesitation and was slipping between gears. Also, the front collision sensor has been coming on upon startup for quite some time. Took the car to the Ford dealership, and they determined that the torque converter was bad in the transmission and suggested a full transmission replacement. Ford agreed to cover $4000 of the $10,000 replacement. This means I would have to pay $6000 out of pocket to get a new transmission. We previously had a 2020 Ford edge and had the same exact problem but it was covered under the powertrain warranty as it only had 58,000 miles. At that time, we did a transmission rebuild at the dealership and the car never drove the same after that, which is the reason we bought the 2022 Ford edge, Not thinking we’d have the same exact problem with the transmission.
The transmission of the vehicle is said to be completely damaged from a torque converter issue.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving uphill at approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle failed to upshift and hesitated to maintain automotive power. No warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road and had the vehicle towed back to the residence. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The car was in a front end collision; the airbags did not deploy. Insurance said the car was reparable and fixed it; car was picked up from body shop on 07/19/2024. In May 2025, at only 3 years old, the transmission went out at 95,000 miles and was just replaced. Ford would not admit the accident had anything to do with the transmission going out on a 3 year old car. I was quoted almost $10,000 to replace it, but Ford "helped" and paid $4000 and I was left with the balance of $6200.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera image was delayed while being displayed. The contact stated that a message that the Collision Assist was not available was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle lurched forward several times. Additionally, the contact stated that upon attempting to drive from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle lurched forward while responding, and the vehicle jerked while driving. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The contact stated that upon shifting to reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the transmission was taken apart, and the contact was informed that the transmission had failed and there were metal shavings in the transmission. The vehicle was then towed to Goldsberry's Transmission, where it was determined that the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The contact authorized the mechanic to rebuild the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer informed the contact that no assistance would be provided and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,890.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission shuddered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed torque converter. The contact was informed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The powertrain control systems transmission shift solenoids is not responding as expected or is stuck in the on position. Some transmission gears may not being available resulting in delayed or harsh shifts into another gear. The vehicle has a shutter that didn’t throw any codes. The vehicle was inspected at a Ford dealer and was told they see nothing wrong and no codes. Withing 30 miles the car was jerking badly and slipping gears. This caused uncontrollable harsh jerking and instant limp mode with no acceleration while driving on a highway. Drive it back to dealer service. Then I got a warning about the power train transmission. Upon further inspection was told the transmission needs completely replaced. There was absolutely no warning before the transmission completely failed. No way to tell it was failing. Ford refuses to handle the issue other than charging me for a new transmission. There are bulletins with similar problems to this year ford edge from the same factory but a few months different time span so no coverage is offered.
1st noticed problem- turning sharply to the right heard clunking coming from under car. Put car into reverse and felt like brake was on. But wasn't. Clunking stop when put back into forward and parked car. One hour later, drove a mile and a half home. No clunking until I backed into driveway. Clunking stopped after going in reverse about 10-15 feet. Drove to Dealer next morning. Couldn't get clunking to happen at quicklane. A few days later went to lunch and was backing into parking spot and clunking returned. After lunch drove to Dealer. They witnessed the clunking. Put car on hoist and checked obvious spots nothing found. Provided loaner and after determining differential was the problem. (almost $5000.00). Problem repaired next day. Had car about 2 weeks and clunking appeared when we were 3 hours away from Dealer. Called and made it to the dealer before closing. Clunking was noticed and this time at the dealer the transfer case was the issue. (Another $5000.00). They said this was the cause of the differential problems. After waiting for a week for ford to release a new transfer case, the car was again repaired. The mileage range of 400 to 1000 was given for the parts to get back in sync and stop making the clunking. We have now have about 600 miles after the last repair and an occasional clunking is still appearing. One more note. We will be traveling to Michigan from Florida in 2 weeks. (1771 miles). Is this car a lemon? Issues started after 60,000 checkup was done.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle with the headlights illuminated, the interior instrument panel lighting and display screen lighting became extremely dim, and it was difficult to read the display screen. Additionally, the vehicle started jerking and hesitated while driving at various speeds. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.
The transmission makes a loud “bang” when shifting from first to second gear. A simultaneous vibration can be felt in the driver seat when this happens. There is also an extremely hard up shift from first to second gear. A dealer reprogrammed the transmission computers but the issue is still present.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle was jerking and shuddering while in low gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
I noticed a clicking noise coming from the right front wheel when turning left. I also notice when I put the vehicle into drive I hear a clicking sound. I was driving came to a stop and heard a click sound when I took off. I would guess it's the actual drive shaft that is bad.
