Your ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights came on in early 2020. Your vehicle has lost both ABS and traction control, which is particularly concerning in winter driving conditions. A mechanic diagnosed a communication problem with the ABS module itself—not a power or ground issue. The vehicle is still being driven without these safety features while awaiting repair.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT SHE COULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS USING THE KEY FOB. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE KEY TO MANUALLY ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIGHTING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED ILLUMINATING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

FRONT BRAKE FAILURE EXCESSIVE WEAR BRAKE PADS- ABOUT TWO WEEKS FROM ACCEPTABLE PADS TO NOTHING METAL ON METAL CAUSED BY HUB BEARING FAILURE - ALLOWS THE WHEEL TO MOVE HORIZONTALLY ON THE AXLE SHAFT. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF BEARING FAILURE PRIOR TO BRAKE PAD WEAR FAILURE OF THE HUB BEARINGS COULD BE THE REASON FOR MANY OF THE BRAKE PAD WEAR PROBLEMS ON THESE VEHICLES HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BEARING HUBS 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN 2005- REPLACED LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT BEARING HUB ASSEMBLIES, ROTORS, AND BRAKE PADS ALSO ABS FAILURE - SENSORS ARE CONTROLLED BY THE COMPUTER MODULE WHICH IS PRONE TO FAILURE - CONTROLS ALL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF THE VEHICLE. SO REPLACING INDIVIDUAL WHEEL SENSORS DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM - ONLY REPLACING THE FAULTY COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE WILL ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT FAILS AGAIN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED FIVE TIMES. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED ONCE AND REPLACED TWICE TWO MONTHS AGO. WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED, THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURES ARE CAUSED BY "FAULTY" DRIVING. CHRYSLER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE AIR CONDITIONER MALFUNCTIONED THREE TIMES AND WAS REPAIRED. EVERY SEASON THE AIR CONDITIONER MALFUNCTIONS. THE REAR HOSES WERE REPLACED TWICE ALONG WITH THE COMPRESSOR. THE POWER LOCKS ON ALL OF THE DOORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE PASSENGERS WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR ALTHOUGH THE DOOR LOCKS WERE IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION. THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOWS STARTED MAKING A CLANGING NOISE WHEN IT WAS OPENED AND THAT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.

I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT AND ALMOST RIGHT ONTO A PERSONS LAWN TO KEEP FROM REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IF MY DAUGHTER HAD BEEN DRIVING THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT REPORT WITH THIS. THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS HURT. MY HUSBAND HAD JUST BEEN DRIVING AND HE SAID THE PEDAL WAS FEELING SOFT. IT WOULD GRIP AND THEN GIVE. I HAVE HAD THIS 2005 DODGE CARAVAN FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. I BOUGHT IT AT A USED CAR DEALER, BUT I HAVE HAD NO RECALLS ON ANYTHING BY THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN CONTACTED THEY CAN NOT HELP ME. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WEBSITE HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND THE 2005 IS THE WORST. CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE REFUSED TO WORK ON THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS MODIFIED. THE RECALL PROBLEM HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MODIFICATIONS BUT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE REFUSED TO WORK ON IT.. AFTER SEVERAL HEATED CONVERSATIONS WITH MANAGEMENT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE RETURNED MY VEHICLE WITH A DEAD BATTERY, AND A LEAK IN MY ENGINE AND DID NOT FIX THE RECALLED ITEM. AFTER I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE NEW PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MODIFICATIONS BUT WERE INDEPENDENT FROM ANY MODIFICATIONS PREVIOUSLY MADE TO MY VEHICLE. AFTER COMPLAINING TO THE DODGE CORPORATION I WAS REFERRED TO THE DODGE SERVICE CENTER IN LAQUINTA. THERE MY CAR WAS EQUIPPED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND THE RECALL ITEM WAS NOT FIXED BECAUSE THE MANAGER REFUSED TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE MODIFICATIONS. I CALLED LAQUINTA DODGE TO COMPLAIN AND MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE ENGINE LEAK, THE UNSERVICED RECALL ITEM AND NOW IN DOESN'T SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CATHEDRAL CITY SERVICE CENTER AND THE LAQUINTA SERVICE CENTER DIDN'T EVEN CHECK TO SEE IF THE PROBLEMS WERE IN ANYWAY WAY CONNECTED TO THE MODIFICATIONS. THEY JUST REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT IT. NOW THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL ON MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE AIRBAGS AND LAQUINTA IS REFUSING TO WORK ON IT. IN SUMMARY MY VEHICLE ARRIVED IN PALM SPRINGS FULLY OPERATIONAL IN JUNE 2006 AND EVER SINCE THE FIRST CONTACT WITH CATHEDRAL CITY SERVICE CENTER MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN INOPERABLE. BETWEEN THE CATHEDRAL CITY AND LAQUINTA DODGE SERVICE CENTERS MY CAR NOW HAS AN ENGINE LEAK, A BAD HEATING COIL, DEFECTED AIRBAGS PROBLEMS SHIFTING INTO GEAR AND DOES NOT START. MY VEHICLE WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL AND HAD 80 MILES ON IT WHEN IT ARRIVED AT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE IN 2006 AND NOW HAS 87 MILES ON IT AND IS IN OPERABLE. THAT?S 87 MILES NOT 8,700 OR 87,000 MILES. IT HAS ONLY 87 MILES BECAUSE IT HASN'T BEEN RUNNING SINCE CATHEDRAL CITY AND LAQUINTA DODGE HAVE DAMAGED MY VEHICLE. *JB

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE WORN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND TURNED THE ROTORS. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND PERFORMED THE REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STOP. HE HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER HAS NOT DIAGNOSED THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

PREMATURE FRONT BRAKE FAILURE-- WE PURCHASED OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN NEW, IN LATE SPRING 2004. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES TWICE, ONCE AT 18,000 MILES, AND NOW AT 35,000 MILES. OUR DRIVING HABITS HAVE NOT CHANGED AND PREVIOUSLY (FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS, WITH 5 DIFFERENT CARS) WE HAVE GONE 30,000 - 40,000 MILES BETWEEN BRAKE JOBS. THIS VEHICLE REPLACED A 10-YEAR OLD PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER WHICH HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE WEAR. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER SAYS HE HAS SEEN 2005 GRAND CARAVANS COMING IN NEEDING BRAKE JOBS AT ABOUT 25,000 MILES, BUT NOT 18,000 MILES. YET, NEITHER THE DEALER NOR CHRYSLER ADMITS THAT THERE IS A SYSTEM OR COMPONENT PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE, AT BEST, RELUCTANTLY HELPFUL. THEY HAVE AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS, BUT NOT THE LABOR. SO, I HAVE NOW HAD TO PAY, IN PART, FOR FRONT BRAKE JOBS TWICE IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS, AVERAGING LESS THAN 18,000 MILES BETWEEN THE REPAIRS. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IF CHRYSLER DOESN'T DO SOMETHING ELSE TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION, THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHRYSLER PRODUCT I WILL OWN...AND I WILL NOT BE KEEPING THIS MINIVAN MUCH LONGER. *NM
