Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2013 Durango vehicles manufactured April 27, 2012, through September 14, 2012. The vehicles may have been built with incorrect seating capacity information labels. The label might overstate the seating capacity. Therefore, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of FMVSS number 110 "Tire Selection and Rims."

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and provide replacement labels free of charge. At the owner's option, they may take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for installation of the label. The service will be performed free of charge. The recall began on February 18, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.

Your car's seat headrests have popped out while driving—first the passenger side, then the driver side—and they won't stay in place because the attachment mechanism is broken. This is a safety concern since headrests are designed to protect your neck and head in a crash. The broken headrest assembly will need to be replaced.

Your passenger seat headrest suddenly broke apart on its own without any accident or impact to the vehicle. A plastic pin that holds the headrest together fractured, causing the headrest to fall apart. While no one was injured this time, this could pose a head injury risk if someone had been sitting in that seat.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passenger Active Head Restraints (AHR) deployed for no reason. I was sitting in in the passenger side seat talking to my wife, in the driveway, when the AHR deployed without cause. The head restraint struck me on the back left side of head with force. My neck is starting to stiffen up. Yes it is available for inspection. I will send pictures. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The force generated during the deployment of an Active Head Restraint (AHR) system is significant, I know because I was hit on the back of the my head thankfully I was not driving. My safety concern is two fold, one injury from AHR deploying inadvertently and elderly person might be at more risk for this type of injury. Two, AHR deploys striking driver while the car is in motion causing an accident. Also, this might be related to an open investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA Action Number: PE19014) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

While causally driving down the road, without warning, the passenger headrest on my 2013 Dodge Durango violently "exploded" forward. Thankfully, my son who was riding in the passenger seat, was sleeping with his head bent forward so it didn't hit him. Upon inspection (by myself), the active head restraint feature is held together by PLASTIC, which obviously failed. I searched on the internet and this appears to be a common problem, and each time it's due to this plastic clip failing. This is totally unacceptable. I have the headrest available for inspection. It was brought to the dealer who wants $950 to replace it. They said the warranty expired less than a year ago. Again based on internet research, apparently Dodge/Chysler just recently extended the warranty to 10 years for 2014 models (and possibly 2013?). How convenient to extend a warranty short of the period covered. Not only shouldn't I be responsible for the cost of replacement for such a dangerous feature, but what happens when I'm driving and the driver's side suddenly fails and I'm violently hit in the back of the head and swerve into on-coming traffic? Ironic that these "active head restraint" features are causing injuries instead of preventing them. These headreasts need to be recalled IMMEDIATELY before more people are injured or killed.

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving 55–60 MPH, there was an abnormal exploding sound detected. The contact pulled over and noticed that the driver's side headrest air bag had exploded without warning or impact. The contact sustained a headache, but medical attention was not provided. The contact called the local dealer, who stated that repairs were not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case and informed the contact that the repairs would be at her own expense. The failure mileage was approximately 171,088.

We are concerned with the remaining headrest in the car for fear they will pop out at any moment. Please let’s try to resolve this problem before someone looses a life due to a problem we know exists. Will you all also please send info on possible solutions. There are many forums stating solutions but the headrest will not pop back in. The suv was not involved in any collision for this to have happened. Please help

I was sitting in my kids’ school parking lot dropping them off. When looking inside the deployed headrest, it seems like there is a broken plastic piece that possibly works to keep the headrest “latched.”

THE HEADREST BURST OPEN STRIKING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITHOUT THERE BEING ANY REAR END COLLISION OR MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS ALSO NO ONE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE HEADREST TO DEPLOY. I CONTACTED TWO DODGE DEALERSHIPS TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. I PURCHASED A 2013 DODGE DURANGO FROM NEW SMYRNA BEACH CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP AT THE END OF JULY 2018. THE MORNING AFTER WE PURCHASED IT THE CAR WASN'T ACTING RIGHT AND WOULDN'T START. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE UP THERE UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST THEY FINALLY REPLACE THE FUEL RELAY PUMP. I GOT A LETTER SAYING THAT THERE'S A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND THE PART THAT WAS PUT IN WAS A PART OF THE RECALL. MY VEHICLE STARTED ACTING FUNNY AND DOING THE SAME THINGS THAT IT DID LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. IT'S BEEN STRUGGLING TO START AND I HAVE VIDEO OF IT FROM LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO AND NOW DOING THE SAME THING. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY BATTERY WAS DEAD AND THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL I REPLACED IT. MY BATTERY WAS NOT DEAD WHEN I LEFT MY HOUSE AND THIS IS WHAT THE RECALL DOES IT DRAINS THE BATTERY. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN MY CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY FOUR CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP MADE ME PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY AND ARE ASKING ME TO GET AN AUTHORIZATION FROM CHRYSLER TO COVER THE CHARGE AND THE PART OF I HAVE TO NOW PAY FOR THAT TOO. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DRIVE POSITION AND WAITING FOR THE GARAGE DOOR TO OPEN, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HEAD REST AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR AN IMPACT. AFTERWARDS, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A HEAD AND NECK INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER (POSNER PARK CHRYSLER DODGE, 42650 HIGHWAY 27, DAVENPORT, FL) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

I TOOK A LOOK INSIDE TO RESET IT AND NOTICED THE PLASTIC HOUSING THAT HOLDS THE LOCKING ROD IN PLACE HAD BROKE AND THE LOCKING MECHANISM HADN'T OPENED, THUS ALLOWING THE HEADREST TO BE UNABLE TO BE RESET SINCE THE LOCKING ROD JUST GETS PULLED BACK OUT DO TO THE TENSION ON THE SPRINGS.

I DROPPED THE KEYS BETWEEN THE CAR SEAT AND THE CONSOLE. I MOVED THE SEAT TO THE FARTHEST POSITION THAT I WOULD GO BACK. IN RESEARCHING THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT ISSUES, I RAN ACROSS A RECALL FOR CHRYLSER BUT IT DID NOT PERTAIN TO MY MAKE AND MODEL AND IT WAS FOR POSSIBLE NON DEPLOYMENT DURING REAR END COLLISION. HAVE BEEN OVER TO DEALERSHIP AND CALLED REGARDING THE RECALL I HAVE. IT IS ALWAYS ON BACKORDER AND SOMEONE WILL CALL WHEN IN. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL AND I SEE THIS IS A SERIOUS RECALL. IS THIS REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THESE RECALLS GETS REPAIRED. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY AS WELL AS MY CRACKING LEATHER WHICH HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED.
