ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

ON SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, UNDER CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS, AN INTEGRATED CIRCUIT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT CONTROLS INTERIOR LIGHTING MAY OVERHEAT.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE CLUSTER FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 2, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-140.

Your instrument cluster is malfunctioning — the speedometer shows 50 MPH even when parked, the odometer went blank, and the interior lights won't turn off. You noticed a strong burning smell coming through the A/C vents while driving, which forced you to pull over. A mechanic found this relates to a known electrical system recall (Campaign 07V092000) that the dealer claims was already completed on your vehicle. The repair will likely involve inspecting and replacing faulty wiring or electrical components in the instrument cluster and A/C vent area.

I have had my durango for about 2 years, one day I went to start it and it clicked as if battery had died. When I jumped it, it started right up. I noticed that my dash had a tire sensor light and a light saying Overhead lamp on. I turned my overhead switch and all my lights in the car turned on and then off when i turned switch.( normal) so I knew something was up. After doing some research I read about the recall. I Made an appointment on the 15th of June to get a recall for my instrument panel fixed. I dropped my car off at 7 am my appointment was at 8am. I called around 11:30 to get an ETA since I was on a time limit for work and live an hour away. The dealership called to tell me that he needed to take out cluster and test it and if it was cluster he would have to order it and it could be a few days. If it was fine it was a circuit Issue and he would need to fix it. Thank god my mother was in the same area visiting and was able to give me a ride home. He then called that evening and asked if I owned another Key/FOB. I told them I didn't and my fob has never worked since i purchased the vehicle. He stated that he got the recall all finished and fixed but now all the lights on my dash were flashing, my headlights the horn, flashers and something" went wonky" there. He then tried to tell me they needed to order a new fob to program it to my car and it was going to cost me almost $400. I told them I was not going to pay that amount and that it seems like they messed something up when they put it together. I picked up my car Friday the 17th and my tire pressure light was still on. After getting home and checking tires they were all fine. The next day I went to start my car and the Headlight lamp light came back onto my dash. I already had to take 2 days off work and now have to miss more to have this recall done right. I looked up my vin today the 20th and it says my recall is incomplete! To top it off they never gave me any paperwork or have me sign anything.

Was driving 2005 dodge Durango when it stalled and stopped running at a bottom of a hill. Would not start . Replaced idiole control sensor, starter, battery, crank shaft sensor and relays. Started ran for 30 minutes again just died in the middle of the road. Will not start. If someone would of come over the hills could of hit us with sever injury or possibly death. Still wont run crank over wont run.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who tested the battery and the alternator however, neither was the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was called however, a representative was not able to be reached. The vehicle was not repaired. After searching online, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 07V092000 (Electrical System). The failure mileage was 200,052.

Engine is intermittent stalling when driving or taking a sharp corner at Low speed. The vehicle engine has just stalled when driving at different speeds. No check engine lite on at all the engine just stalls and I can restart the engine almost all the time right away the repair facility has no idea what is going on. Need to get this figured out before an accident happens

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PINCKNEY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1295 E MAIN ST, PINCKNEY, MI 48169, (734) 878-3154) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS BATTERY HAD DIED UPON START OF HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS ABLE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY. MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE JUMP STARTED AND TAKEN BACK TO HIS INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CHARGED THE BATTERY AGAIN. DUE TO THE INEFFECTIVENESS OF THE CHARGE, THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BATTERY. UPON RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE CHANGE OVER MOTOR LINKED TO THE FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE FEATURE COULD ENGAGE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT THEN LINKED HIS FAILURE OF HIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE COULD HEAR AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SVC 4WD SERVICE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY UPON START OF THE VEHICLE. GILL CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1100 S MADERA AVE, MADERA, CA 93637) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. TAKATA RECALL. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THIS RECALL FIXED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS REPAIRED. THEN I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE AND WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THEY HAD THE PARTS. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED AND MOVED BUT STILL HAVE THE SAME NUMBER. NOW I RECEIVE ALL THIS INFORMATION ABOUT THE DANGER AND THIS VEHICLE IS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN'S PRIMARY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. I FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO. ALSO DURING THE SAME TIME FRAME OF THIS RECALL, MY ELECTRONICS ON THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACTING ERRATICALLY. THEY STILL DO OCCASIONALLY BUT WE HAVE TO DRIVE IT NONETHELESS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL GO DEAD WITH NO LIGHTS OR GAUGES WORKING, THE A.C. WILL BLOW HEAT ONLY OR STOP, THE ALARM GOES OFF ON ITS ON, ETC. ALL THIS WHILE IT IS STILL RUNNING AND DRIVABLE BUT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW FAST! RIGHT NOW IT'S ACTING SOMEWHAT NORMAL. THE FRONT HEAT/AC CONTROLS STOP WORKING. IT DOESN'T MATTER RATHER THE HEAT IS ON OR THE AC IS ON. IT WILL RANDOMLY STOP BLOWING AIR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE WIRES UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH (UP UNDER THE GLOVE BOX) GET EXTREMELY HOT AND SMELLS LIKE BURNING PLASTIC. WHEN MY MECHANIC LOOKED INTO IT THE WHITE PLASTIC PIGTAIL PART WAS HALF MELTED AWAY. HE REPLACED IT BUT A FEW MONTHS LATER WE HAD TO REPLACE IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I DIDN'T DRIVE THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED. NOW AFTER 2 DAYS OF DRIVING IT SINCE IT WAS SITTING IT HAS GONE OUT AGAIN.

ONE DAY IT JUST STARTS PLAYING, BUT WHEN I STOPPED TO GET GAS, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER BATTERY WAS REPLACED, THE CARGO LAMP STAYS ON IF I OPEN MY REAR HATCH. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ALL ON AND NAVIGATION DISPLAY WAS ON BUT NOT LEGIBLE. AFTER DEALING WITH SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS, I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. A CHRYSLER CASE MANAGER NAMED "PAUL" (1-800-763-8422 EXT. 66371) NOTIFIED ME VIA VOICE-MAIL TODAY THAT THEY WILL NOT PAY TO RESOLVE/INVESTIGATE THE MATTER. THE CASE MANAGER IS CLEARLY AVOIDING SPEAKING TO ME BY CONTACTING ME AT MY HOME NUMBER DURING THE DAY, EVEN AFTER I LEFT HIM A MESSAGE WITH MY PRIMARY CONTACT NUMBER. THE ISSUE: THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/WIRING RECALL IN 2007. I OBTAINED A COPY OF THE CLAIM FORM. THE CLUSTER WAS NOT REPLACED, HOWEVER, THE WIRING WAS MODIFIED. APPARENTLY, THIS RECALL WAS DONE DUE TO OVERHEATING ISSUES. SO FAR, I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. BUT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT SHOULD NOT BE ON - ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS). I BELIEVE, THESE ISSUES CAME TO THE FOREFRONT WHEN THE BATTERY WAS LOW AND/OR REPLACED. THE INTERNET/FORUMS ARE LITTERED WITH ISSUES REGARDING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE DURANGOS MANUFACTURED DURING 2005-2007. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME TO CORRECT A NHTSA RECALL (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FIRE HAZARD), WHICH THEY DID COMPLETE. MY CLUSTER STILL TELLS ME THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH 2 SYSTEMS MY VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE INSTALLED. REGARDING THE 2ND RECALL I HAD THEM ADDRESS (FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT). I BROUGHT ME VEHICLE IN WITH NEARLY A HALF TANK OF GAS, WHEN I PICKED IT UP IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 1/2 GAL. MY ON BOARD COMPUTER TOLD ME I HAD 0 MILES TO EMPTY. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO WAY TO TRANSFER THE FUEL FROM THE OLD TANK TO THE NEW, WHICH IS BS. THEY HAVE TO GET THE FUEL OUT OF THE TANK AS IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO DISPOSE OF THE FUEL, I SUSPECT SOMEONE GOT A FREE FILL UP. IN ADDITION, I HAD THE DEALER HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 4 DAYS AND STILL HAVE NOT RESOLVED THE RECALL. WHEN I CAME TO PICK MY VEHICLE UP THE SECOND TIME, THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME OVER $100 DOLLARS FOR A "DIAGNOSTIC FEE" FOR RECHECKING THE RECALL ON THE CLUSTER, BUT I LATER FOUND OUT THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AT ALL TO THE CLUSTER THE SECOND TIME. 2005 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 HEMI STALLS UPON ACCELERATION. DURING ACCELERATION IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTION AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE CAUSING THE MOTORIST TO BE STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR OTHER DANGEROUS SECTION OF ROADWAY. LOSS OF ELECTRICAL FUNCTION CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO THE EGR PIPE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. DURING ACCELERATION THE ENGINE WILL TORQUE OVER CAUSING THE EGR PIPE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BATTERY CABLE THUS CAUSING THE PLASTIC SHEATHING TO BECOME CHAFED. OVER TIME THIS CHAFING WILL WEAR THROUGH THE PLASTIC SHEATHING AND EXPOSE THE BARE COPPER WIRE ALLOWING IT TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE METAL EGR PIPE. THE CONTACT OF THE COPPER WIRE FROM THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO THE METAL EGR PIPE CREATES A DIRECT SHORT WHICH IN TURN SHUTS DOWN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ANY ENGINE CONTROL FUNCTIONS. IN SOME INSTANCES THIS SHORT CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY CABLE TO HEAT UP ENOUGH TO CATCH THE PLASTIC INSULATION ON FIRE AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO BATTERY EXPLOSION.

I CALLED DODGE THAT DAY, THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE THE CASE MGR CALL ME BY THE NEXT EVENING. BUT OF COURSE THAT WAS ACTUALLY BUSINESS DAYS SO MONDAY EVENING THEY CALLED ME TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS? I ASKED IF THIS WAS THE CASE MGR AND SHE SAID YES AND WAS CALLING TO VERIFY MY ADDRESS. OF COURSE I TOLD HER WE GAVE THE ADDRESS ON FRIDAY AND IT IS THE SAME AS WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND ON ALL OF MY RECORDS. SHE SAID SHE WOULD HAVE AN INSPECTOR CALL ME. HE CALLED ON THE 23RD AND INSPECTED IT ON SATURDAY 11/26/2011. HE TOOK ALOT OF PICTURES AND SAID WOULD FILE THE REPORT THE NEXT WEEK BUT HAD NO CONTROL WHEN DODGE WOULD CALL ME BACK OR IF DODGE WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH LOW MILES AND A DOCUMENTED SERVICE HISTORY. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT WAS HELD AT THE FIRST DEALER I BROUGHT IT TO DUE TO THE CHECK VALVE RECALL. IT IS IN THE GAS TANK AND WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING GAS TO FLY BACK OUT WHEN FILLING THE TANK. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT AGAIN LATELY FOR ABOUT THE LAST MONTH. THE INSPECTOR SAID THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THE DASH PANEL WHICH HAD CAUSED FIRES. I TOLD HIM I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF EVER GETTING THAT WORK DONE, UNLESS IT WAS BEFORE I BOUGHT IT OR THEY DID NOT TELL ME OF THE REPAIR WHEN IT WAS DONE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS W/ IT: BROKEN REMOTE KEYS-THE REMOTE LOCKING DEVICES ON BOTH KEYS ARE NOW DYSFUNCTIONAL DUE TO THE SOLDER THAT HOLDS THE BATTERY IN PLACE BREAKING. I CANNOT LOCK/UNLOCK VEHICLE FROM OUTSIDE AND WHEN IT IS LOCKED FROM INSIDE PRIOR TO EXITING, UPON RE-ENTRY, THE ALARM SOUNDS UNTIL KEY IS PUT INTO IGNITION AND VEHICLE IS STARTED. THE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO REPLACE THESE KEYS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!! WINDOWS SHAKING WHILE ROLLED DOWN-ANYTIME ANY OF THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN THEY SHAKE VIOLENTLY W/ IN THEIR CASING. THERE IS ALSO QUITE A BIT OF WIND NOISE HEARD WHEN WINDOWS ARE ROLLED UP COMPLETELY. HAD DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. NAVIGATION SYSTEM-THE MAIN KNOB HAS BECOME ALMOST DYSFUNCTIONAL. IT SEEMS THAT IT IS STICKING OUT FARTHER THAN IT ONCE HAD. WITH OUT USE OF THIS KNOB, THE ENTIRE NAV SYSTEM IS VIRTUALLY UNUSABLE. SEATBELT COVER-DRIVERS SIDE PLASTIC DUST COVER WHERE SEATBELT GOES INTO SEAT CAME OFF AND THE PLASTIC AROUND IT HAS A CRACK IN IT. THERE IS QUITE ALOT OF DUST BUILDING UP INSIDE THE SEATBELT MECHANISM. LIFTGATE SCREWS FALLING OUT-THIS HAS HAPPENED A DOZEN TIMES REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY TIMES THEY ARE TIGHTENED. IT IS THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE PLASTIC ON THE INSIDE OF THE LIFTGATE-WHERE THE CLOSING HANDLES ARE LOCATED. BROKEN PIN ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL-DEALER CALLING THIS A "PUSH NUT PIN" AND IT IS WHAT ATTACHES THE ACCELERATOR TO THE ARM. DEALERSHIP CERTAIN IT IS A PART MALFUNCTION HOWEVER CHRYSLER REFUSING TO REPAIR. UNDERSIDE STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROL-THE LEFT BUTTON THAT CHANGES THE PRE-SET RADIO STATIONS AS WELL AS WHICH DISK IS PLAYING IN THE CD CHANGER IS STICKING. THE DEALER WAS NOT SPECIFIC AND COULD NOT DETERMINE THE TRUE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS. THE TYPE OF COILS REPLACED WAS UNKNOWN. THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING TRAFFIC, WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION. I BOUGHT A 2005 DODGE DURANGO IN JUNE 2005. THE FIRST 9000 MILES WERE GREAT. NO PROBLEMS. IN OCTOBER 2005 THE HEADLIGHTS/FOG LIGHTS STARTED TO GO ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES. THE DEALERSHIP MOVED THE INSPECTIONS STICKER. DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY THEN REPLACED THE SENSORS AND SWITCHED, DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, THEY THEN REPLACED THE CIRCUIT BOARD, DID NOT CORRECT. THEY THEN HAD A TECH FROM THE FACTORY LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE MODULE. I PICKED UP THE CAR YESTERDAY AND ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE DEALER THE LIGHTS WENT ON AND OFF AGAIN. I HAVE SENT THE LEMON LAW CARD TO CHRYSLER. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AGAIN TODAY ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THEY BASICALLY HAVE STATED THAT IT IS UP TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM WAITING ONCE AGAIN FOR HIM TO CALL ME BACK. THE HORN ALSO BLOWS BY ITSELF (THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE), THE RADIO HAS TURNED ITSELF ON AND OFF BY ITSELF TWICE, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS CAME ON WHEN IT SHOULD NOT AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SHOWED THAT IT HAD DEPLOYED WHEN IN FACT IT DID NOT. LUCKILY I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT I WAS ABLE TO AVOID ONCOMING VEHICLES. THUS FAR THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE HOWEVER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND ADJUSTED THE IDLE. TOMORROW THEY WILL REPLACE AN O RING IN THE TRANSMISSION. I AM CONCERNED THAT ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION SO FAR, I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY AS TREACHEROUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS APPROACH. LUCKILY, SHE DRIFTED TO THE CURB, BUT IF THE TRAFFIC HAD BEEN HEAVY, SHE AND THE BABY COULD HAVE BEEN BADLY INJURED OR KILLED. I EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ONE DAY LATER. AFTER REPAIRS WERE STARTED, THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED BY THE REPAIR SHOP TO BE A WIRE UNDER THE SEAT THAT WAS FOR ELECTRIC SEATS WHICH IS NOT AN OPTION IN MY CAR. DODGE WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY SAID TO STOP REPAIRS UNTIL THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR TO LOOK AT CAR. HE CAME THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND DETERMINED DODGE WAS NOT AT FAULT AND SEALED THE FILE AND WAS TOLD TO RETAIN A LAWYER IF I WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY, OTHERWISE TOO BAD. I FOUND A RECALL ON 2001 DODGE RAMS THAT WAS FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND 2 REPORTED SUCH FIRES IN 2001 DURANGOS. MY CASE IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND DODGE REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEN ON JUNE 2, AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUTT OFF AGAIN. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE STARTED BACK UP AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. THE DEALER REPORTED NO PROBLEM, THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER SHOWED NO ERROR CODES. THEN STALLED AGAIN THE 24TH OF JUNE. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 THIS TIME, AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN LATER THAT DAY, THE VEHICLE WERE ON, AIR CONDITIONING, ALL SHUT OFF. THE DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT. THERE WAS NO ELECTRICITY IN THE VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR THE TAIL AND HEAD LIGHTS, AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS, AND THIS WAS DANGEROURS BECUASE THIS TIME THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAD CONTIUALLY HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO FIX THE STALLING PROBLEM. THE COMPUTER HAS BEEN RESET , AND AN IDLE SWITCH WAS ADDED. RIGHT NOW CONSUMER IS WAITING FOR THE TOOLS FROM CHRYSLER TO FIX THE RECALL PART. THE CONSUMER CALLED IN ADVANCE FOR AN APPOINTMENT. DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE ALL DAY, BUT THEY VDIDN'T HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS.*AK

MY HUSBAND & I PURCHASED A 2005 DODGE DURANGO WITH A HEMI ABOUT A MONTH AGO. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO (MAY 11, 2005), I PUT THE DURANGO IN REVERSE (I WAS IN A STOP POSITION), AND THE ENGINE JUST DIED OUT. I PUT IT IN PARK AND STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN. I DROVE TO MY MOM'S TO PICK HER UP. AGAIN I WAS IN A STOP POSITION, PUT THE DURANGO IN REVERSE, AND THE ENGINE DIED OUT AGAIN. AFTER I DROPPED OFF MY MOM, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE DURANGO TO THE DEALER. THEY KEPT IT THERE AND TESTED IT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. NOTHING HAPPENED. THEY COULD NOT VERIFY MY COMPLAINT. THEY DID TELL ME, HOWEVER, THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE RE-PROGRAMED. THIS PAST SATURDAY, MY HUSBAND & I DROVE THE DURANGO TO KONA FOR THE DAY. WHILE DRIVING UP A RAMP AT ONE OF THE HOTELS, THE ENGINE DIED OUT AGAIN! FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING (5/23/2005), I CALLED THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. (I SPOKE TO SHERRI) THEY CHECKED WITH THEIR SERVICE MANAGER, WHO ALONG WITH THE MECHANIC, CALLED STAR. THEY TOLD THEM TO INSALL A "CO-PILOT". THEY (THE MANAGER, SERVICE ADVISOR AND THE MECHANIC, ALONG WITH MYSELF) DO NOT THINK THAT MAKES ANY SENSE. THE DURANGO JUST DIES OUT, AND THE CO-PILOT WOULD ONLY MAKE SENSE IF MYSELF OR MY HUSBAND HAD THE TIME TO PRESS THE BUTTON BEFORE THE TRUCK DIED OUT. IN THIS CASE, THE TRUCK JUST DIES OUT, SO WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO PRESS THE BUTTON FIRST. I'M AFRAID THAT THE TRUCK WILL DIE OUT WHILE DRIVING AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN, WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE IT STALLS OUT , DEALERSHIP FLASH A NEW PROGRAM IN THE COMPUTER, HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK LATER AFTER THIS WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED , ALSO STALLS WHEN YOU FIRST START THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE. *JB
