2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Brakes Problems

Your brake pedal may sink all the way to the floorboard without providing normal braking power, though the vehicle will eventually stop. This problem happens intermittently and no warning lights appear. A failed brake vacuum pump is likely the cause and will need to be replaced to restore proper braking.

Driving the truck, a nut fell against my foot. I pulled over and looked underneath to where this Nut could have come from. I realized that the brake pedal was very loose.

I am the original owner of a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. The vehicle's brake vacuum pump has failed, resulting in a sudden, significant loss of power braking assist. This requires excessive pedal force to stop the vehicle, creating an immediate safety hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

I received the recall notice and then the special warranty notice, fall of 2019. I took my vehicle, which was experiencing the braking issues described in both notices, to Nereson Automotive in Detroit Lakes, MN. I did call ahead & had an appointment and informed them of the letters and the problems both on the phone and in person when dropping the vehicle off for repairs. After they called me and told me they made all the repairs and had the vehicle in good working order again, I picked up my 2015 Chevy Silverado High Country (approximately 107,000 miles) and while still on the lot I experienced the same braking issues. At that point I just figured it was something that I would have to deal with. After almost 5 years of dealing with the intermittent annoyance, I started doing some research on how to fix it myself and came across a mechanics instruction on how the recall and special warranty was supposed to be performed. I called them back and scheduled another appointment pointing out they were supposed to replace the vacuum pump in 2019 and I informed them (Ty) the radio and DIC on my truck would randomly change menus and stations and wanted them to reflash the computer system (which they did not do, and also charged me over $150 for a bogus diagnostic fee afterward). After I dropped my truck off for repair (again) (approximately 158,000 miles) I received a call and they said the special warranty is expired because I was approximately 8,000 miles over the extension. I informed them I had brought them the truck in 2019 to have the issue fixed and they did not fix it under warranty at that point. They said there was nothing they could do to help fix this important SAFETY RECALL. Now, I have complete brake assist failure and a dealer that seems to be ignoring the recalls and cutting corners. I called GM Customer Service and they said I have to work it out with the independently owned dealer. I called back yesterday (XXX) and they still refuse to fix the recall. I couldn’t do absolutely anything I had to stop and hit a divider from a parking structure to be able to stop my truck. I took a video right after and you see on the video how the brake is just stuck it won’t even go in or anything you hear , a marshmallow sound you feel the grinding it’s horrible .

Anytime I pull into the parking lot and I have to pump my brakes more than once the brake pedal stiffens up and the truck does not stop it has almost caused a collision and almost went through the window of a business it is to the point where every single time I drive it does this from what I heard it is the vacuum pump it does not provide enough vacuum for the brake booster so the brakes do not work it cost about $250 for the OEM part and that is not guaranteed to work the problem will persist later on down the road after more mileage put on the truck

Losing power brakes at low speeds. Narrowly avoided rear-end collision.

Unable to brake at low speed idle. Brakes occasionally lose power when at low speed, for example stop and go in line at a restaurant drive through, or behind a line of cars at a stop sign. Brakes become hard, maybe 1/4 “ pedal travel and very difficult to stop and avoid collision with car in front.

I was going through a drive through restaurant, stopping and starting with cars in front of me. When I tried to stop the brake pedal became very hard to push and vehicle didn't want to stop. I shut off the vehicle and restarted.

Menards entrance parking lot, approaching a left turn into the parking lot, applied brakes and slid into the corner pole located on the south side of the building, truck was unable to stop!, causing damage to the front end of my vehicle and causing physical damage to my wife.

Braking is very difficult when at low speeds to stop, it is nearly impossible. I have had many very close accidents where I have almost hit other vehicles due to not being able to stop properly. It is my understanding that this issue is due to the brake vacuum assist pump.

Unexpected total loss of braking while baking up, then hard brake pedal with no travel going forward. Yesterday (18-mar-2019), I was pulling into a parking space at a restaurant and all of a sudden when I tried to apply my brakes on my 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500 crew cab, the pedal was extremely hard to push. The truck continued moving after I exerted as much force as I could on the pedal.

Was pulling into a parking stall slowly and truck would not stop when applying the brake pedal. Braking system has been a problem for a long time. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop. There the mechanics replaced the front brake pads and rear brake pads.

My 2015 Silverado was purchased new and around October 2023 the trailer brake service warning started popping up. I was concerned with pulling any sort of trailer that my safety would be at risk, and also the constant noise as a distraction. I have taken to dealer for inspection, but nothing was able to be done at the time.

The power assist for the brakes intermittently goes out and does not work, typically happens at low speed like when parking. The most recent time this started happening a ‘brake assist’ notification appeared on my dashboard. This is a safety concern. I see a recall for my model and year, but when I inquired was told my VIN was not covered. The existing recall number that I believe should be expanded to cover my VIN is recall number N192268490 and is also listed as NHSTA campaign numbers 19V645 and 20V603. Please look into this and expand the recall to cover my vehicle and others that should be covered for this safety defect.

When backing slowly down a ramp with a boat attached the brakes feel like they are not holding . Feels like I'm going to be in the water with the boat. In drive the brakes work just fine. Only when going down a ramp with the boat it feels like the brake is down as far as it will go and fading or out of pressure. This happened a couple times before this in June and July. Then I replaced the front brakes. First time I backed the boat in after brake change it still happened. I feel the power booster or something else is bad. It's just weird it is only in reverse at slow speeds.

I have had several instances when it has become difficult stopping my vehicle, particularly under low-speed conditions like when approaching a stop light or while in a parking lot. I have had to use both feet and all my force to stop the vehicle and several of these times was while towing which only added to the difficulty and danger of the situation. I have replaced my brake pads, rear calipers and flushed the brake fluid all of which has not helped or resolved the issue. A shuttering in the brake pedal often times accompanies this issue, similar to the ABS system activating. I see there is a recall 19V645000 which from my online research seems to mimic what I am experiencing but when I called Chevrolet directly, I was told to make a report on this website. I was not offered any assistance in the matter.

Catalytic converter failed with less than 80,000 miles. The truck was taken to dealership, denooyer chevrolet, from which it had been bought new and by which it had always been serviced to remedy the check engine light prior to 80,000 miles with authorization to perform any diagnostic and remediation covered under warranty.

At 10mph to 30mph every other week I will get a sudden brake lock up and release for a split second. There are no codes that get thrown, it is very dangerous... being a disabled veteran, I did check is it says all my recalls have been done but I don't think they were done right.

While in a drive thru moving up slowly to the next spot brakes became hard and had to put a lot of force on the brakes to make vehicle slow down and stop. I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me but luckily stopped within a few inches. Took it in to get serviced and mechanic said brake system checked out to be good.

Truck has issues breaking at very low speeds such as drive thrus ect. Zero issues at driving speeds. I see there is a recall for this issue on silverados between 2014 and I believe 2018 that had to do with a vacuum pump or similar issue that caused breaking issues at low speeds.

2015 Chevy Silverado LTZ 5.3L. 81.2k miles. After not driving the vehicle for four days while away on a work trip, the very first trip out of the garage, the brakes became extremely difficult to press and stop.

I was backing up at low speed after a 25 minute drive and went to stop, pushed brake pedal and it was hard and didn’t slow the vehicle. I stood on the pedal to stop from backing through my garage door and wheels made a dragging sound and stopped. Put it in drive to check the brakes and same thing happed, brakes hard and no stopping power.

Slow speed braking is severely affected upon engagement, such as backing out of my driveway, or maneuvering into a parking spot. The brake pedal will pulse as if the ABS system is activating, however, upon reaching/ keeping idle speed, the brake pedal will become very rigid and the pedal is very hard to compress downward.

At low speeds, like idle, brakes do not want to work. Very hard to press.

My truck lost brake vacuum assist on Saturday 1/29/2022, it happened 7-8 times at engine idle speed while parking. I'm a 230 lb man and had a difficult time stopping the truck. This is a known issue, I've already had a recall performed on the truck for this issue, I believe the recall is NHTSA Campaign Number 19V645000.

At low speeds the brakes do not engage 100% of the time. After a few short pumps the brakes dont engage and I have to push as hard as I can on the brake pedal to get the truck to stop. It has happened at random times over the last year and there is no pattern to it.

After a 300 mile drive the brakes all but failed when attempting to back into a parking spot. The pedal was stiff feeling and required significant pressure to stop. Going forward seemed to be normal then when I backed up again it was bad.

If I am at a stop and creep up and push the brake pedal, it gets solid and fails to stop the vehicle!

Breaks will not catch . As I'm driving and trying to stop the truck will keep rolling . This is even when driving slow .

Breaks stop working at low speeds. Stop and go traffic, parking, stopping for people, stop signs, traffic lights. Breaks go down half way then get hard to push.

While driving the brake pedal pivot nut came loose and fell onto my foot, the brake pedal was then loose and moving back and forth. This is exact what is described in a gm recall 18278 brake pedal pivot nut, reference number: n182165530. Except that the recall did not cover this truck.

The trailer brake system light keeps coming on and I have never hooked up to a trailer that has brakes. This lights comes on sporadically. Concerned as I have heard that chevrolet uses too light of wire in their light trucks.

I was backing up my silverado and my trailer at slow speeds and the brakes became very stiff and I continued to roll after stepping on my brakes. Luckily I was in a street and not able to cause damage to anything behind me. This was after I already got the recall taken care of.

There was a recall on the brake pressure when vehicle was moving slow. I had the recall corrected/completed; however, it still has the problem. So their solution isn't fixing the problem.

Brake assist is on and hard to stop my truck

There has been loss of power braking at low speeds. The brake pedal has a vibrating feel as it is pressed. The pedal will go down all the way to the floor with very little braking power.

We were driving in sevierville, tn in very busy tourist traffic going about 25 MPH with 2 babies in the back and pulling a trailer with a polaris ranger. When I went to hit the brakes, there was no movement of the brake pedal. I couldn't press it in unless I used 2 feet and applied hard pressure.

I lose the power brakes if I touch the pedal at low speed more than a couple of times. It happens frequently while driving in bumper to bumper traffic and when backing into a parking spot. It is a complete loss of the power brakes and ir barely stops.

When braking frequently in a parking lot or at low speeds the stopping power gets worse and almost will not stop the vehicle. I have 86,760 miles on my truck currently but this has done it since 20,000 miles and since then off and on.

When at a slow rolling speed brakes are extremely hard to brake, mainly when in parking lots or backing my boat in the boat ramp its extremely scary and seems like the truck wont stop rolling. This is so unsafe and scary. Its almost like the brakes dont work.

Increased brake pedal effort, hard brake pedal, and/or potentially increased stopping distance due to low mechanical vacuum pump output. Condition is more prevalent at low speed when softly applying the brake. Decrease vacuum/power brake assist over time, failure to follow recommended oil change intervals could contribute to conditions.

When traveling in low speeds, usually in reverse, I have to increase my break pedal effort and press really hard to stop the truck. This does not happen every time I drive it but it does happen often.

I was pulling into a parking spot and when pressing the brake pedal to stop it got really hard, had no brake pressure to stop, thankfully I had no concrete barriers or light posts in front of me to cause any damage just grass on a hill to help me stop.

At a low speed coming into my carport the brakes had a hard pedal and would not stop. This has happened on two occasions. 5-27-2017 and again while backing up to my lawn mower tailor on 5-29-2017 .
