Your driver-side airbag deployed suddenly while driving in snowy conditions at low speed, even though there was no crash or impact. This caused you to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a telephone pole and a ditch. The airbag may have malfunctioned due to a faulty sensor or electrical issue in the airbag system.

Your airbag warning light turned on, and the dealer found fault codes indicating a problem with the passenger-side airbag deployment system and a temperature control circuit issue. The dealer replaced the airbag at a cost of $597.67. You're concerned that this expensive repair should be covered by the manufacturer since airbags are a critical safety component and shouldn't fail during the vehicle's normal lifespan.

You took your truck to a GM dealer to have a recalled airbag issue fixed, but the dealer told you they would need to remove the airbag to complete the recall repair. The dealer warned that removing the airbag would likely crack your dashboard, requiring you to pay for a replacement dashboard out of pocket. You decided not to proceed with the recall fix based on this information.

After an authorized dealer completed a recall to replace your front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag system warning light on your dashboard came on and won't turn off. The system is indicating it needs service, but you believe the dealer should address this issue at no cost since it occurred after their recall repair work.

dealer told me that they will replace the passenger airbag but i need to sign a paper saying that if the dash board breaks while they work on it then they are not responsible and i need to pay to repair whatever damage there may be, they also said GM or Tekada would not pay to damage to dashboard because its old.....i did not let them replace airbag. my name is [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Rydell Chevrolet in Northridge CA. 818-832-1616 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Crash Impact Sensor in the drivers side front door has lost communication with the vehicle's airbag computer. Vehicle information display reports the fault and illuminates the red dashboard airbag light. This condition caused by wire harness / conductor fatigue between drivers side door and vehicle body. Observed that if driver's side door moved to certain positions while open the fault would clear. Eventually these wires in the door harness failed due to normal open / close cycles with the door upon entry / exit and now have completely failed so that the dashboard airbag lamp stays illuminated at all times. I have a 2010 Toyota Venza that has a recall on the same type of issue. Why is GM not recalling vehicles for this issue? My dealer has acknowledged that they have seen this issue, but no recall has been issued so they are not able to address it as such.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
This is in regards to: Manufacturer Recall NumberN212328800 NHTSA Recall Number21V054 GM's handling of this is absolutely unacceptable. I have been waiting for parts for over a year. GM's statement is "just don't drive it" if I have a concern about me or someone dying from their defective part. For over a year this is [XXX] to put it bluntly. I just got a letter stating that parts were now available, I have called immediately and was told sorry, there aren't actually parts available now. No ETA. GM should be financially compensating me for giving me no other option to drive an unsafe vehicle for over a year and who knows how much longer. I don't have the financial means to 'just not drive my truck for over a year', or to 'go buy/lease another vehicle for this duration'. I'm livid that this problem hasn't been resolved and more needs to be done federally to put the heat to GM. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I received recall notice N212328770 by letter in July 2021. I immediately notified my local dealership and they told be they were waiting for the part. We just received a call from the dealer about a week ago and schedule to ge the recall issue repaired on Wednesday, February 9th 2022. We were given an appointment and my wife had to take the vehicle due to the me working. She arrived to have the safety defect replaced (passender air bag) and was told that when they do the replacement that if the dash cracks or is damaged they are not responsible for the damages and we would have to pay to get it fixed or replaced. This is very pooe customr service as well as causing a customer not to go through getting the recall completed. My wife called me and did not want to challenge the dealership. I told her just come home and do not let them make the repair/replacement and I would contact GM. I have had no luck doing so. This should be a no brainer. If they damage the dash or it cracks they fix it or replace it. My dash does hav 2 small cracks right where the air bag is located and from what I have read online many have stated that they too have had the same issue. This is supposedly due to the air bag issue. So now I am in a rock and hard place. I either don't get it done and risk a serious injury or death due to GM's unwillingness to take responsibility and handle in a professional manner or have them do it, damage the dash and pay lots of money to get it replaced. Can you please advise what I should do? Since I can not provide you with any personal info so you can contact me what am I to do to get this recified? A very long standing upset GM customer.

I have received a recall letter from General Motors regarding recall # N212328800, NHTSA campaign ID number 21V054. The letter was dated last February of 2021 and received shortly thereafter. The letter specifically states that I am to receive a second letter advising when the parts are available and requesting that I take my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer. As of today, January 17, 2022, I have not received any such letter. I am writing to advise you of GMs totally unacceptable response to this instance of the Takata airbag recall. I have checked with Chevrolet dealers in my area and am being told that I can come to their lot and they will order the parts and THEN call me when they are ready to do the work. This response is contrary to the way the letter states that the recall will be handled and is confusing to customers. Please investigate and get GM back on track. I would also appreciate an email from someone at GM advising when the airbag parts will be available or if they are already available. I can be reached by email at [XXX]. Thank you. Dash Board of my vehicle has cracked around the area of my air bag. Worried that my air bag will not work properly if ever in an accident. No dash board should crack! Either the material's used when made were not as durable as they should be. Truck has been maintained in excellent condition since it was bought from dealership. No inspection, no safety lights on, no warning lights on. As being the original owner and seeing this worries me and my safety. NO DASHBOARD SHOULD NEVER CRACK/SPLIT.

Chevy refuses to replace the recalled Takata airbags currently under recall without doing a “full vehicle inspection” and providing us with a “list of repairs that must be made” before the airbag can be ordered or replaced. Note: The is nothing wrong with our truck. They say this is their standard operating procedure for this recall and it requires two full day appointments: one for the inspection and one for the recall repair. They refuse to order the replacement airbag until the inspection has been completed and any repairs Chevy deems “necessary” are complete. This seems to me to be extortion, i.e. we have to keep a defective airbag or comply with their inspection and any repair/payment for anything they deem “necessary.”
Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V051000 (Air Bags). The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer for the recall repair. While the mechanic was inspecting the vehicle, the contact was informed that while performing the recall repair on the passenger’s side frontal air bag, there could be potential damages to the dashboard that the dealer would not be responsible for repairing, replacing, or reimbursing the contact for any damages. The contact felt that was not right and did not want the recall repair performed if neither the dealer nor the manufacturer would not repair nor reimburse the contact for damages made to the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and agreed with the local dealer. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 126,625.

MY PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL N202324210 BY PRIORITY CHEVROLET OF CHESAPEAKE VA. I WAS REQUIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO SIGN ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE GM OR THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DASHBOARD CRACKING AS PART OF THE REPAIR. MY TRUCK IS LOW MILEAGE AND IN GREAT CONDITION SO I EXPECTED NO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN DID CRACK MY DASHBOARD AND PREDICTABLY THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO TAKE ANY ACTION. I THINK IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THE MANUFACTURER AND THEIR AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEPARTMENTS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DAMAGE CUSTOMER VEHICLES DURING RECALL REPAIRS. ALSO, WHILE MY CRACKS ARE FAIRLY SMALL, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT INVISIBLE DAMAGE MIGHT HAVE OCCURRED. HOW CAN I BE CONFIDENT THAT THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT CREATE MISSILE HAZARDS? IT IS COMMON TO VIEW THE DASHBOARD AS MERELY DECORATIVE BUT I AM NOW FORCED TO CONSIDER WHAT NEW HAZARDS ARE PRESENTED BY THE DASHBOARD, BOTH FROM UNSECURED MATERIAL IN A CRASH AND MISSILE HAZARDS IN THE AREA OF THE AIRBAG, THAT WERE DIRECTLY CAUSED BY A GOVERNMENT ORDERED RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT NHTSA SHOULD ORDER REPAIR OF ALL MOUNTING EQUIPMENT AND DASHBOARD COMPONENTS AS PART OF THIS AND FUTURE AIR BAG RECALLS. THANK YOU.

THE COMMON DASH CRACK IN MY 2012 SILVERADO WITH ONLY 40K MILES. I HAD A SUNROOF INSTALLED TO LET THE HEAT OUT AND MY TRUCK IS CLEARLY STORED IN A GARAGE AND THE TRUCKS DASH STILL CRACKED. ITS SO BAD THE DASH RATTLES WHEN DRIVING AND IM WORRIED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF PLASTIC USED ON THE DASH THAT WHEN THE AIR BAG DEPLOYS, THAT THE DASH WILL TURN INTO SHARP SHARDS OF PLASTIC HEADED TOWARDS MY PASSENGERS AND I. I NEVER EXPECTED SUCK A WELL TAKEN CARE OF VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILES TO HAVE A CRACKED DASH AND [XXX] SURE NOT A GM PRODUCT. TOYOTA HAD THE SAME ISSUE BUT THEY FIXED THERE ISSUE. MY AIR BAD LIGHT IS ON AND MY HORN DOES NOT WORK. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALLS ON MY TRUCK. SHE THEN TOLD ME I HAD TO TAKE MY TRUCK IN TO SEE IF IT HAS A RECALL. I ASK HER WHICH IS IT, IS THERE A RECALL OR NOT? SHE SAID NO RECALL BUT I HAD TO GO INTO SERVICE TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. THERE EITHER IS IT ISN'T. I FEEL GM IS TRYING TO COVER THIER BUTTS. SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY KNOW OF A PROBLEM BUT DON'T WANT TO GO PUBLIC WITH IT. I'M A 100% DISABLED VETERAN. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW 5 YEARS AGO, I ONLY HAVE 55K MILES ON MY TRUCK. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK ESPECIALLY IF GM KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT REFUSES TO OWN UP TO THIER MISTAKE.
WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION 5 PMH AIRBAG ON DRIVER SIDE BECOMES HOT N COOLS OFF WHEN WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, CAN YOU FIX THIS ISSUE, IT'S DOESN'T SHOW THAT IT'S RECALL BUT I FEEL UN SAFE TO DRIVE IT, MY DEALER SAYS IT'S NOT ON YOUR RECALL LIST, PLS ADVISE ME THEY TOLD ME IT'S A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM.

DASH CRACKED AT RIGHT UPPER CORNER BY PASSENGER AIRBAG WHICH COULD POSSIBLY RIP AIR BAG UPON DEPLOYMENT
THE DASH IN MY 2012 SILVERADO TRUCK HAS CRACKED ON IT'S OWN IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO CONSUMERS(JUST DO A GOOGLE SEARCH) WITH A SAFETY CONCERN THAT IF THE AIR IS DEPLOYED, THE CRACKED PLASTIC COULD GET BLOWN OFF AND BECOME A DEADLY PROJECTILE.THERE IS NO ASPECT OF THIS THAT CAN OR SHOULD BE CONSIDERED SAFE.
THE DASH HAS A CRACK ABOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THE CRACK IS COMPLETELY THROUGH THE ENTIRE PIECE OF PLASTIC SO IT MAKES ME CONCERNED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IF IT WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT I AM NOT CERTAIN THAT THERE WOULDN'T BE PLASTIC FLYING THROUGHOUT THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 60000 MILES AND WE WERE TOLD IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEREFORE THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IS $1004

DEVELOPED CRACK ON DASH WHERE AIRBAG IS ON PASSENGER SIDE, CRACK IS ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG, WILL THIS EFFECT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT?
"TAKATA RECALL", I HAVE A CRACK IN MY DASH THAT IS LOCATED RIGHT NEXT TO PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE MY DASH WILL CONTINUE TO CRACK THAT WILL CAUSE MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO FAIL WHEN IT WILL BE NEEDED TO PROTECT PASSENGERS THAT RIDE IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS TOPIC AND GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING AND THEY WON'T DO NOTHING TO FIX IT. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP NOISE WHICH I NOTICE THAT MY DASH HAD CRACKED.

THE DASH IS ALSO CRACKED IN A AREA ABOVE THE GAUGES. EVERYONE I KNOW THAT HAS THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. A PERSON I KNOW HAS ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND IS ALREADY CRACKED AS WELL.
THERE'S CRACKS SURROUNDING MY PASSENGER AIRBAG IN MY 2012 SILVERADO. THESE CRACKS ARE NOT ONLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN DESIGN BUT ARE ALSO A SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING TOO WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK/SUV.
THE DASH IS CRACKED BY THE AIR BAG HOUSING THE DOOR HANDLES ARE DISCOLORED AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS ALSO DISCOLORED.
CRACKS IN THE DASH AT THE AIRBAG MAY BECOME PROJECTILES.
RECENTLY I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS A DIRECT IMPACT. AT THE TIME OF THIS ACCIDENT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK NOR DID THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. THE SPEED FROM THIS ACCIDENT WAS BETWEEN 50-55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. AT THE RATE OF SPEED I WAS GOING BEFORE THE ACCIDENT AND THE FACT THAT I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS TO BEGIN SLOWING DOWN ONE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE SEAT BELT WOULD HAVE LOCKED BUT IT DID NOT AND AT THE POINT OF IMPACT I WAS VERY SURPRISED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BUT YET THE SYSTEM INDICATED THAT IT DID AND NEEDED TO BE RESET. HOWEVER NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE DRIVER SEAT BELT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED DUE TO THE FORCE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED BY GENERAL MOTORS, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN A ROLL OVER CRASH BUT THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND THE INVESTIGATION WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH WHAT WAS EXPERIENCED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 37 MPH, ALL FOUR SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS INDEPENDENTLY DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION KEY WAS CYCLED OVER 5,000 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. DJR

WHILE DRIVING, A DRIVER CUT IN FRONT OF ME AND LITERALLY SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES. I WAS NOT AT FAULT IN THE ACCIDENT. MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO MY HEAD. THE INJURY WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH ME WEARING MY SEATBELT. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SEVERE CONCUSSION AND MANY OTHER AILMENTS, BALANCE DYSFUNCTION, MEMORY LOSS, PARASYMPATHETIC ANOMALIES, ETC. IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT COULD HAVE CAUSED SUCH SIGNIFICANT INJURY CONSIDERING THE LOW SPEED OF THE CRASH CORRELATED WITH PROPER SEAT BELT UTILIZATION. *TR
