2017 Chevrolet Malibu Fuel System Problems

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving northbound at 70 MPH, an unknown BMW crashed into the passenger rear quarter panel of the vehicle. The impact spun the vehicle around and hit a guardrail.

High pressure fuel pump blew out while driving on the highway going to Minnesota from Illinois. Fuel was spraying onto the engine and leaking onto the ground. I immediately pulled over and stopped the car, turned off the engine and raised the hood.

In February 2023, we took the Malibu into the dealership for reduced engine power dashboard notification. Light went off when in shop, got the car back and light on once again. When at a red light that turned green, accelerated but car would not go over 20 MPH.

Inaccurate gas meter or other fuel components. The meter does not match the reading on the mychevrolet app. I just filled my tank until the pump stops and the meter reads full in my car.

The contact was able to restart the vehicle and took the vehicle to a dealer.

My vehicle would not start. The starter would try and turn the engine over for 10 seconds then the starter would shut off. This happened on 3/7/18 and the vehicle was towed in for service.

Fuel is leaking and it is messing up my emissions. I had the emissions fixed for my safety inspection. But soon after 2 days later fuel keeps leaking and the smell of gas is so strong in my car. This is a safety hazard of not only becoming inflammable but also the smell is toxic to my health and my grandchildren. I have asthma and all of the following i have experienced headaches, dizziness, and respiratory problems, and long-term like asthma exacerbation that is flaring up my asthma and i am afraid it will cause potential cancer.

Engine light is on, message pops up stating "engine power is reduced" and pedal acceleration is limited. I received a message from Onstar stating there is a recall on some GMC vehicles regarding this issue, however my vin is not part of the recall, but it should be, as all the elements stated in the recall are the exact issues in my vehicle.

bought this kind of new and while still under warranty reduced power engine light came on & engine is reduced to 20 MPH have to pull over shut it off wait a few minutes and start it back up and then it will be all right for a while we called dealer made an appointment but by the time the appointment came around the light had gone out they said the light needs to be on in order for them to diagnose the problem the light goes off after about 50 miles after this happens so we could never get it into them within that 50 mile time frame we gave up after a while now it's happening more often and I hear that maybe a class action suit coming they don't seem to be able to solve the problem.

FUEL TANK WILL NOT FILL COMPLETELY. IT WILL ONLY FILL TO 7/8THS AT BEST. THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS IN ONLINE FORUMS.

WHENEVER I FILL THE TAKE FROM E I HAVE TO AT LEAST REFILL AN ADDITIONAL TWO TIMES PER WEEK. THE GAS GOES REALLY FAST AND I CAN'T EVEN GET 13 GALLONS IN MY TANK.I GET ABOUT 21 MPG EVERY TRIP.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FIVE STAR CHEVROLET (2199 DAVID H MCLEOD BLVD, FLORENCE, SC 29501, (843) 605-0183) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONSTAR DIAGNOSTIC TOOL SHOWED A FAILURE WITH THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

Engine light came on, lack of power to engine. Was driving 68 MPH when it occurred on georgia 400. Car was taken to dealership, and diagnosed with a pedal sensor issue.

After filling vehicle fully with fuel the fuel gauge does not register full. My dealership contacted gm and they said it is a "non-issue" but the dealership disagrees since they have had numerous vehicles with the same complaint.
