2016 Bmw X1 Other Problems

My 2016 BMW X1 28i is leaking coolant. I am also getting a smell of something burning inside the car when driving. This is consistent with problems associated with the 2024 recall for water pump.

The sunroof cover fell on my daughter while driving. It is made out of black material. We went straight to the dealership, they said that the blade was blade was broken.

The Panoramic Sunroof Shade Blind is sagging for no reason and I am concerned that it would suddenly fall off completely due to the wind or other conditions during driving, which could block my line of sight or lead to accidents. This has been confirmed by the dealer which recommended to replace the shade, that is not covered under CPO warranty and would cost around $1,900.

My 2016 X1 is showing in the dashboard a “secure vehicle against rolling” transmission message; the fault is due to a little spring in the selector level which has been reported in other BMW and MINI models. I recently found a report in the NHTSA website related to a 10 year warranty extension for the Mini [XXX] ) but it does not include the X1 model, which suffers from the same type of defect.

During the parking of the vehicle (gearbox shifter in “Park Position") and after turning off the engine, the iDrive system shows the following message: “Secure vehicle with parking brake and have the problem checked by dealership. This happens when I start up the vehicle in park and when turning off the vehicle.

Error message stating “secure vehicle from rolling”. This is a common issue with the X1. I’ve found countless complaints of the issue on BMW forums.

When turning car on and off error message “Secure Vehicle against rolling”. Everything shifts completely fine in the car, the parking brake engages and the car shifts into park fine. I’ve been told by dealer to bring in for $199 to do an assessment.

I took my car to the dealer after I started to get an error message saying that I needed to put the parking brake on to prevent rolling. It was very stressful driving the car while this error message was in place.

Unknown, design fault! I’m having an issue with the warning light saying Secure Vehicle from Rolling every time I turn on/off my car. My main menu or radio doesn’t appear until I confirm notice about the parking brake.

At 44,000 miles, I began getting the error code "secure vehicle against rolling" every time I started the engine. Took car in to local dealership who advised I needed to have the gear shift assembly replaced as the car could roll even when placed in park. Out of fear that the car could roll and cause damage to myself or others, I requested they order the part immediately.

The BMW's display showed "Secure Vehicle Against Rolling". We took the car to the BMW dealership and they repaired the issue with a complete gear selector display assembly. We are concerned that this is a safety issue and we understand this may be a common problem with BMW.

Selector lever failed causing a warning message to appear on the screen. Dealership is reviewing the damage and the cost is not under the warranty.

Use car once every couple of weeks. Pressed button to retract glass panoramic roof/black liner and after it was about 2/3 of way back I heard a clicking noise, then ripping noise. Stopped retraction and saw the front of liner askew, left side having retracted more than right.

The headliner of my panoramic roof has come undone causing my driving view to become obstructed. I reached out to BMW USA who said that it will have to be replaced and will cost $3,118.95 to replace it. I feel as though this should be on the recall list as I am not the only person who has had an issue with the headliner coming undone.

Without warning, the sunshade came loose on one side. Apparently it is a very common problem and repairs can be upwards of $2500. This has the potential to be very dangerous if the shade comes completely loose or detached.

The panoramic sunshade is sagging on the passenger side. It has come off the track or roller. I've read that this is a very common problem with bmw,s and very expensive to have it repaired.

There is a musty sour smell coming from the air conditioning vents. I have replaced the cabin air filter and just serviced the whole AC system to no avail. Odor happens when vehicle is first started and goes away after approximately 5-8 minutes.

2016 bmw x1 new sav equipped with comfort access . Approached locked parked hatchback and depressed hatch exterior lock handle. Hatch opened to mid-height opening to allow 6 ft tall person to get into the trunk hatch area.

Known HVAC-produced moisture drainage issue that cause water to get trapped inside the system and cabin air filter housing, causing significant mold or mildew to grow on the filter itself and spread spores through cabin ventilation system and contaminates air inside cabin which poses serious health hazards.

After I got my 2016 BMW X1 from Service, I heard a rough sound when I reversed the vehicle from Park. After a few days, I noticed my vehicle showing an error saying "Secure Vehicle against rolling" every time I parked the vehicle and advising me to use my hand brake.

My car just started showing an error code every time I turn it off or on saying to "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped" with a transmission status error code but is running perfectly fine.

Dash keeps reading secure vehicle against rolling. I believe it may be something with the gear shifter.

It is showing "SECURE VEHICLE AGAINST ROLLING". what does this mean? Why would the vehicle roll?!

Dash displays: “secure vehicle with parking break when stopped. Consult service center.” Apparently this is an ongoing issue with the 2016 X1 and is a relatively simple fix albeit, costs an insane amount of money. This should be a recall.

The sunroof screen that covers the panoramic sunroof has become detached from the retractable component. Because of this, the screen has begun to sag, which is now partially obstructing visibility through the rearview mirror. This obstruction is a life threatening situation because of lowered visibility.

I parked my car in the garage and secured everything and when I turned the ignition off and cluster message appeared "secure vehicle against rolling". The car is parked on a level surface and parking brake engaged.

We have a warning that says "Secure Vehicle Against Rolling when stopped. Consult service center." I learned online that this warning is common and that it occurs due to the malfunction of an $8 spring but BMW charges $3,000 to $4,000 to replace it. BMW should issue a recall if this is a common safety issue.

Opened sunroof shade back to see out of sunroof for a few hours. When I tried closing the sunroof shade it stops about a foot out and retracts backs. Seems to be stuck on one side and unsure as to why.

Moon roof fabric gets loose and falls into the car, causing it to block drivers view.

The shade that covers the sunroof ripped and was hanging down covering the rear window. This happened while I was driving, so I looked in the rearview mirror and all of a sudden couldn't see anything. BMW says that this is not covered by warranty because it is cosmetic, but it seems like a safety issue to me.

The sliding sun visor on the panoramic sunroof has become detached from its frame on the passenger side. The sliding visor material now droops into cabin with possible obstruction of visibility to outside areas.

Yesterday (april 18, 2021), while I was exiting the expressway to the town of silverthorne, colorado, the sunroof glass of my bmw x1 spontaneously shattered into my head and my wife's and of course all over the car. I was travelling about 50mph and slowing down to the exit ramp; there was no vehicle ahead of us.

The panoramic shade that shades the sunroof from the passengers is dipping down on one side. We have not drawn back this shade much but it has started to sag on right side because the adhesive that keeps it in place is useless. This is a common problem I've heard for the bmw x series.

While driving, I opened the panoramic sunroof shade. One side bunched up and did not retract. After closing, one side of the shade is hanging down partially blocking the view.

Foul, musty odor comes from a/c for the first 5-10 minutes after starting up. Concerned about health impact of mold growing in a/c system.

I went to open my panoramic sunroof shade and it completely came off the track on one side. The vehicle was in park but turned on, as I was getting ready to leave for the day.

Driver side dashboard glovebox pops open during driving, hitting driving in leg. Speed of car does not matter.

I believe that the exhaust tail pipes come out too far. I was getting something out of the rear of my x1 and burned my left leg on the left rear exhaust pipe. The car was parked on a neighborhood street and turned off at the time.
